After I had my own share of this ugly experience recently in regards to my loved one, I no dey take healing prayers joke. Anywhere I hear prayer for good health, I say Amen with all my might. Don't ever wish to be associated with anything hospital in Nigeria. Be it private or government hospital. The situation of the country is frustrating and many of these health workers are part of the population. Many of them pour out their frustration on patients and some even make health related mistakes on patients now that the patient's health issue becomes even worse than before they came to the hospital. Jbleenk: Na wash
Modified: Coincidentally i am at a govt hospital with my wife who is receiving treatment. The spate of structural dilapidation is alarming. Some of the workers discharges their job with so glaring negligence you will be amazed, especially the nurses. Some are however very lovely and very ready to help.
Wifey was billed for a surgery past Monday, cos of the negligence on the part of a nurse, the surgery have been postponed till next week Monday. Now we have to spend another 7 days at the hospital cos of one foolish nurse.
SEVICOM is a complaint service you need to reach if you have a complaint, even that does not work. I have spent over 1.5m in preparation for this surgery just to be told it won’t happen again till Monday. I’m so gutted no body to complain to. It’s crazy in this country. The rot is everywhere in Nigeria not just Sokoto state. |
Family › Re: Help Me With Budgeting.... My 400k Salary No Longer Takes Me Home. by neoG(f): 2:50pm On Jun 01, 2023 |
You didn't include savings in this list. That means you do not have savings at all.
I learnt something that is helping me out. Never budget your money in figures. Budget your money or plan your financial expenses in percentage and stick to every percentage.
Remember this also. Financially educated person take out savings or investment first and then the rest is for expenses (this what the rich do. It is not easy at first ooo. It takes a lot of discipline) while the financial illiterate person will spend or make expenses first and then after save the remainder of the income (this what poor people do)
So for example for a salary of 400k (all should total 100%): Tithe - 10%
Savings - 40% ( Remember I put savings above first before I list expenses below. Take it out first and immediately and push it to an account type like piggyvest with the lock feature. This is also where you will take out your house rent last last)
Dependants (e.g parents, siblings etc) - 5%
Food, provisions and fruits - 20% ( I increased the percentage here as a result of the recent fuel increase. With 20% or 80k, if you plan well, you will eat well and still have more that will spill over to the next month. Trust me I am talking out of experience. For me as a woman and work mostly from home, I do the cooking and going to market but I guess it may not be your thing as a man. So go to bigger markets in Lagos where fruit sellers buy from cos that's what I do and buy from those fruit wholesalers ie where the trailers offload fruits and food stuff. Then go online I think on Instagram and do your research on those people that provide bulk soup cooking services and order 2 different soups + stew in bowls. Can decide to also order pepper soup. Get your rice, semo/gaari, Agidi, spaghetti, and custard ( this you will make for Akara that you buy sometimes from the woman selling in your street) from market monthly.
Hmmmmm I am tired of typing. From the above we have exhausted 75% and left with 25% or 100k of 400k. Use it to fill in the gap for the rest in your list.
Note:Never sacrifice your savings here for any want but you can sacrifice a want here just to stick to your designated percentage for savings. Lastly move out of that house and get a cheaper house like others here have said. |

You can still make your point by not dragging the country. Every shade with its own colors, small businesses still do well in Nigeria, agreed that the operating environment is not up to what we want (which in itself an opportunity), the market is here, the spirit is here, outsiders are coming into Nigeria in troops to tap. Jobs are already lost. Availability of jobs is reducing especially in the online space. Never saw it coming. They are moving so fast in improving more and more on AI and so many are not able to catch up. It is a time to go into indepth research and diversify. If you work online it is time to have a business offline (be careful of setting one up in Nigeria, the economy is not looking helpful for small businesses). Go into full action now in learning a new career that can survive AI for the next 10-20 years. That's what I am doing. Then finally up your game alongside your present skill cos even though AI will take most people jobs, companies and employers in media, design and tech will still need people but these are only the most exceptionally skilled people in their field. |

Move the money to piggyvest and lock it up in safe lock until you can figure out what you want to use it for while you are paid a good amount of interest more than your local bank. troubleshooter: I made a wooden piggy bank in January this year (2022) as a new resolution for the year to consciously save some N1000 and any crispy N500 denomination or 2years. It's about a size of 40x40x25cm. But the CBN Redesign of the naira made me break it this week to avoid being caught on the losing side. And this is what I found .... N345,000 It's not even up to a quarter full yet. I stopped saving for few months in Sept to Nov. This was largely due to some hard times and I lost my dad few months ago and had to do the burial. I'm still thinking of what to do with the money as I'm looking at it. |

God bless you. You have said it all freeman67: First of all, there is no small money for anything solar. Secondly, nothing beats NEPA (as we call it) light. The closest is diesel Generator but the diesel is no longer cheap and even with soundproof it still have some level of noise.
That said, the Disco Staff/agents are the ones frustrating people and forcing them to pay for what they don't consume because we clearly do not have alternatives. They just give targets like bank staff and distribute the target amount for all customers to pay not minding whether there is light or not. They leave in the same society and will surely reap what they sow. If they no reap am for tailor, them go reap am for mechanic, if not then go reap am for hospital. What goes around comes around.
Then we also have a lot of crooks as countrymen around masquerading as religious people. Imagine the number of people saying the op should not even dare talk about his neighbour using free light.
So if the Disco servicing them is assuming that it's only the ops account that is serving the whole compound and as such are billing him exorbitantly based on that, he should just keep quite.
That's why everything keep getting worse and the end doesn't seem to be near. What is wrong in someone paying for what he consumes for God sake?
You will see broad day scam/robbery called yahoo everyone will say mind your business. You see thief, mind your business, everyone will keep minding their business and everything keep getting bad. At the end it will get to everyone in a way or another. No matter how smart or how good you are in minding your business, the ills you see and turn the other eye will surely affect you one day. |

The reason why we are where we are in this country is because if we hear 'A', we will want to do 'B' instead to see if there are reasons behind not doing it. How on earth do people keep doing the same thing in this place over and over again? Una go hear don't part with your money if you no use eye see wetin you wan buy but it falls on deaf ears. There is nothing sold here that you can't live without if you miss the deal that should be your mindset if you want to survive here. If you were scammed in another manner than this I for say 'sorry' but I can't. Demex40: Good evening everyone, This lady @bunnybee successfully scammed me, and I felt so ashamed. When she posted her items for sale, I decided to patronize the least of the items on that list. We communicated so well and she appeared genuine, I viewed her thread, and I saw how some popular nairalanders wished her and her child some goodwill wishes on their birthdays.
I ran through her phone number on the search bar, and no issue of scam or anything related popped up. The account was also created in 2019 for God's sake and I thought I was thorough with my search.
I wasn't in Abuja at that time, so I decided that someone will do the pickup, and I commits the item with some amount.
I called her on Thursday about someone picking up the item, and she gave an excuse for work on Friday and her line was switched off. She messaged me this morning that Saturday, which is today, will be fine for the pickup.
Unfortunately, all through today her line has been switched off. Funny enough, the moment I paid, I now saw a nairalander warning about her.
Note: No matter how genuine they may appear. Never pay a dime ahead, Some people are so terrible
As for the lady, I have her pictures, with her child, and the account number I transferred money to and our transactional chats. I can harm her in so many ways. I have not decided which yet!!

You or the guy is neither wrong or right in this situation. It was just lack of 2 things in you guys lives. Please this is not all about whether he loves you or not. Am talking out of personal experience. I can only say that by experience any relationship that lacks deliberate and intentional understanding between the two people with good communication, is heading no where. Gabless: I am 28 years old, a graduate of one of the university in South West. I work as a contract staff in a bank.
I met this guy about a year ago through my best female friend, and the journey started. I took him to my parents and he also took me to his parents too, and the wedding preparation started.
We were suppose to do family introduction but my parents says there is no need considering some logistic reasons. Although my mum has her reservation concerning him. But since my father has no objection I think am good to go.
He has sent money for some preparation since he is not residing in Lagos. The problem started after I went to idumota with my aunt to buy our engagement clothes. It was my aunt that drove me to the market. When we returned, my fiance called me, we talked for some times, but he couldn't appreciate my aunt for her kind gesture. Although my aunt didn't say anything that day but she wasn't happy. My dad also complained that he has been rude to him. The same goes with my mum.
The last straw that broke the Carmels back was when he was arguing with my aunt over the phone. He did not know I was in my aunt's house that particular day. I wasn't happy at all, thinking that if he would not regard my parents how would he treat me after marriage.
So I confronted him the second day over the phone, telling him that I'm not happy about the way my parents where complaining about him, and that attitude of him is creating fear in me. Instead for him to be a little remoseful and even call those people and apologize, he was arguing with me, still in my aunt's house.
So I told him, maybe we should put the preparation on hold thinking he would at least try and apologize to them. He just said, is that what you want and ended the call.
Everyone was surprised. He didn't call back it was his mum that called my mum, she didn't even persuade them to stop me from taking such step, and the guy too didn't call me for like too weeks until when I called him and he said he wasn't interested in the marriage again.
Actually, I wasn't happy and I have been downcasted since then, but on the other hand, May l ask this question does this guy really loves me?. Is he really mature enough for marriage. Is it all my fault? Please don't insult or abuse me. I just want to know if it's all my fault. |
