Sisters Mannat and Jannat were born conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen - a condition known medically as omphalopagus - and had a combined weight of just 6.6 lbs. They were delivered at a private hospital in Barara, a town in Ambala district, near Chandigarh, on August 27 , they were then transferred to a larger hospital - Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) - for specialist treatment... The chances of their birth are 'one in half a million according to Dr Ravi Kanojia, associate professor at the department of paediatric surgery. 'This is a rare case scenario and a surgeon would be fortunate to see a couple of cases in his or her lifetime,' he said. The twins shared a liver but other vital organs were separate. A 30-member team worked for eight hours to separate the twins, ensuring each baby had enought of the vital organ to live a normal life, on November 23. The twins' father, Mohammad Saleem - a labourer who earns only £4 a day and so could not afford basic treatment for his daughters - praised the dedication of medical staff at PGIMER. He said: 'The doctors at PGI were my last hope and nobody could have attended the twins better than the doctors at this hospital.' His wife, Sonia, said: 'We have been worried about our children for the last three months but God answered our prayers.' Fearless Ekiti Man |
This case is turning to something else |
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has described Tuesday’s arrest of the immediate-past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) by men of the Department of State Services (DSS), as continuation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime of vengeance, saying “disobeying court order and later arresting and detaining the same person the court ordered to be allowed to travel abroad for medicare is the peak of dictatorship.” Governor Fayose, who reiterated his support for the fight against corruption, maintained that it must be done within the ambit of the law and must not be used to seek vengeance. He declared support for Dasuki’s demand for an open trial as against the federal government’s demand for a secret trial. In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, today, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “after flagrantly disobeying court orders, whatever that is done or said by the Buhari-led government concerning Sambo Dasuki will appear vindictive and it remains to be seen how a government that refused to obey the court will now charge Dasuki to the same court.” He called for caution on the information being giving by the federal government to the public on its anti-corruption, saying trying people in the media as being done by the federal government was dangerous to democracy and rule of law. The governor said; “Again, is it the duty of the DSS to investigate fraud? If Dasuki committed fraud as being alleged, why not let the appropriate government agency handle his matter? Why first torturing him emotionally with the DSS siege on his house? “My position is that, since the federal government said report of its panel indicted Dasuki, why arresting and detaining him? Why not charge him to court so that he can also accept guilt or defend himself?” Source:www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/dasuki-buhari-seeking-vengeance-with-corruption-fight-fayose/ |

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday stopped the prosecution of the indicted registered trustees and structural engineers of the Synagogue Church of All Nation (SCOAN) over the collapse of a six storey building within the church premises, pending the determination of their appeal. Justice Ibrahim Buba who gave the order had on November 9, 2015 dismissed the suit filed by the engineers, Oladele Ogundeji and Aknibela Fatiregun. But dissatisfied with the ruling, the two engineers approached the Appeal Court to upturn the decision of the lower court. The engineers also filed another application for stay of execution to halt their prosecution pending the determination of their appeal filed against Justice Buba's ruling. The prayers the engineers asked for in their application include: an order of injunction restraining the Commissioner of Police, by himself, through agents or otherwise from arresting or detaining them for any reason whatsoever in connection with the verdict of Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe dated July 8, 2015 pending the determination of the applicants’ appeal against Justice Buba’s ruling; an order of injunction restraining the state Attorney General, either by himself, officer and/or agents acting on his behalf from prosecuting or proceeding with their prosecution, pending the determination of the applicants’ appeal against Justice Buba's ruling. But the state Attorney General, Adeniyi Kazeem challenged the application in a counter affidavit deposed to by Akinjide Bakare. He argued that the fresh application was not deposed to by the indicted engineers. He also argued that the applicants did not have a valid appeal before the Court of Appeal, saying that granting the application would stop the Attorney General from performing his function as stated by the Constitution. But Justice Buba granted an order of injunction restraining the Commissioner of Police from arresting and detaining the applicants.
