A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Umar Gana has asserted that former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki will go to jail despite being almost related to President Muhammadu Buhari. He says this shows that the president’s war against corruption is not selective.“You could see Sambo Dasuki’s case. Do you know that he is almost related to Sambo Dasuki? But is Sambo not inKuje Prison? And he is going to jail; nobody can stop him from going to jail, unless he drops dead,” Gana told Thisday in an interview.“He has to be convicted. I am yet to see that judge that will say that Sambo Dasuki is free from all these,” he stressed.Gana also reacted to Senator Shehu Sani’s refusal to appear before the APC disciplinary committee in Kaduna.“If any senator thinks that he is bigger than the party, then we will see who is bigger at the end of the day. He has made unguarded utterances that are highly unbecoming and outrightly injurious, especially, to our president,” Gana said.“For him to join the chorus of saying our president is selective in the war against corruption is highly irresponsible and I think that statement alone should have entitled the party to call him to order either by recalling him after all the process are followed or outrightly dismissing him from the party "He cannot say he will not come because the chairman has been appointed, and who says that the deputy chairman cannot act decisivelyand efficiently, too, within the extant laws establishing the party?“Anyway, I will not blame him becausehe is a new comer,” Gana concluded. source:www.informationng.com/2016/01/only-death-can-stop-dasuki-from-not-going-to-jail-apc-chieftain.html |
Presidents, the world over, are known to rely on the services and friendship of dependable allies, party members and even family members outside the defined and regular cabinet appointees throughout their tenure. It does not matter whether that president is Barrack Obama or Vladimir Putin, or even any of the African presidents. As a matter of fact, it was reported most recently in the media that an inner ring of President Muhammadu Buhari’s circle of friends has started digging in and influencing all the appointments made so far by him. Like it or not, that is how the presidency works, especially in a democracy. And that was how the presidency of Goodluck Jonathan operated until he was voted out of power in 2015. And discussing the Jonathan Presidency, one of the few people who stuck close to him come rain and shine was Chief Tony Anenih. Of course, it is trite to say that Anenih’s name is one that rings bell in Nigerian politics. As a former minister of works in the Obasanjo presidency and, later, Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anenih had come to symbolise the tenacity of the PDP and its unequal ability to rejig and bounce back from one crisis after another to a stronger party until its final defeat last year. It is all too clear for any casual observer to see that the defeat of Jonathan could have come much earlier than the 2015 general elections but for people like Anenih. The succession politics from the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua to Jonathan, more than anything, defined the character of the Jonathan presidency and later its defeat in 2015 and this would be in spite of rather than because of people like Anenih. Make no mistakes about it, Anenih was perhaps the most loyal and dependable ally of former President Jonathan. This was probably why he was entrusted with assignments that involved fund disbursements to political allies. Besides, he never ceased to put his national political network and reputation to stabilise the Jonathan presidency by winning more friends, supporters and loyalists to Jonathan. Not only did he commit his time, he spent his own money to carry out assignments for the President even when those have been rightly mobilised for the action simply pocketed the money. It is perhaps too easy to assume that Anenih was ferociously supporting Jonathan for his own selfish, political and any other pecuniary interests. Yet the truth remains that Anenih felt a moral burden to help the president succeed. First, as a statesman and party leader, it behoved Anenih to help steady the hands of Jonathan with the right advice in the interest of the Nigerian nation. Second as the politician with perhaps the highest profile from the South-south region, and with a President from the same region for the first time in the country’s history, Anenih could not have done other than provide the strongest support for Jonathan. Even when Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election, Anenih volunteered to resign from his BoT position to allow the former president to assume it and find a strong platform to engage in national politics. Although it is easier for the Nigerian politician lacking in principles to always run to where it is cooking as many PDP leaders of yesterday are doing now by defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Anenih can look back with satisfaction and dignity at his contributions, loyalty, support and service to the Nigerian state through the Jonathan Presidency. As an elder statesman, he has nothing to be ashamed of because there is no record that he abused his rare privilege as a confidant and ally of the former president. When Jonathan needed fearless Nigerians to speak the truth to his party members in 2010 that the zoning principle in the PDP could not override the Constitution of the country, Anenih found his voice and used his experience and vast political network to pass that message. And when it became clear that the president was wrongly handling the issue of the break-away “New –PDP” group, Anenih did not mince words in telling Jonathan the truth that he needed to listen to the aggrieved group and mend fences with them. Of course, this drew the anger of the many sycophantic and tragic “advisers” making their living by singing to the ears of the former president, the lyrics he wanted to hear. They did not wait to pour out all manner of invectives on their party’s BoT chairman. Strangely, many of those who goaded Jonathan on to the wrong path then have now jumped out of the apparently “sinking” PDP ship into the now “thriving” APC fold. More will still jump out. In a country where the president is so powerful to make and unmake, whether in terms of power politics, business and policies, anyone who has the ears of the president easily lends himself/herself to both creeping and outright envy. If Anenih thought that everybody was cool with his chummy relationship with the former president, then the events of the past few days must have cleared any doubt in his mind. His name has been circulating in the media as one of the recipients of the alleged Dasuki $2.1 billion arms budget scam. In fact, the EFCC said it confirmed payment of N260 million from the Office of the former National Security Adviser into his account. In spite of the fact that Anenih quickly wrote to the EFCC clarifying how he was merely running errands for the former president, he is being wrongfully clobbered daily in the media as part of the people who stole from the Federal Government. In Anenih’s letter to the EFCC, he detailed how the former president instructed him on trust to deliver specified amount of money to some known politicians, including Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, Chief Olu Falae and Senator Rashidi Ladoja- for some political ends. And it is on record that none of the people Anenih mentioned refuted his story. Indeed they have all acknowledged that they received the said money from Anenih. Now the question is, if the NSA was directed by President Jonathan to pay some money to Anenih for specified presidential assignments that he had carried out, how on earth was Anenih to know if the money was drawn from the arms budget meant for fighting Boko Haram or from any other source for that matter? The fact that Anenih willingly furnished the EFCC, upon its request, with the truth clearly shows his honest intentions. I do not know anybody, including those now trying Anenih in the media and attempting to drag his name and reputation to the mud, who will be summoned by President Buhari and given a sensitive assignment on trust, who will turn the President down or ask the president how he would fund it or where the money to fund the assignment would come from. Perhaps Tony Anenih has overstayed in Nigerian politics and some agents have taken it upon themselves to retire him willy-nilly. Maybe some people in his home-state are getting apprehensive of his never-waning influence in Edo politics, especially as a governorship election nears and are willing to throw everything to discredit him. Maybe Anenih is simply paying the price of being too loyal to a president who was too weak as to be defeated by small decisions of governance he could not take! source:www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/is-anenih-paying-the-price-for-loyalty/

Blame GEJ for Mutiny |
GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to grant Presidential pardon to the sixty-six soldiers whose death sentences were recently commuted to 10 years imprisonment by the Army Authorities for offences ranging from insubordination behavior to mutiny, among others. Governor Oshiomhole said that based on the strength of the recent revelations on the $2.1 billion funds for arms purchase which was mismanaged by the last administration, the President should, in the spirit of the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, spare them the jail term but could dismiss them from the Army for their acts of indiscipline. The Governor made this appeal while delivering his speech at the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day on in Benin City yesterday. The Governor while acknowledging the noble role of the Armed Forces in ensuring peace and the unity of the nation even at the cost of paying the supreme sacrifice said it would amount to injustice if the Military Personnel who were sent to the war front without arms were made to wallow in prison while those who diverted the funds meant for Arms purchases are being granted bail by the law courts. The Governor said: “I ask Edo people to stand by our Armed Forces, to support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to reposition the Armed Forces, to re-kit them but also to revive our economy. The revelation about diversion of funds meant to equip the Armed Forces is not funny and therefore we must all give the President the support he needs to bring to justice those who diverted money meant to secure all of us and convert them to political funds. “These same people sat in the comfort of their office, looking at their loot and they had the guts to put on trial soldiers who were ill-equipped and were asked to go and commit suicide in the face of Boko Haram. I am happy that the Military have in their wisdom through their own judicial process committed those death sentences to various terms of imprisonment for those soldiers who were involved. “I am not an apostle or a supporter of indiscipline but I believe it is also a matter of hypocrisy to tie the legs of a young man or a woman and ask him to go and get involved in an Olympic race. If you chain him, how can he run?” Oshiomhole continued: “I therefore want to lend my voice on behalf of the people of Edo State, that those soldiers at best can be dismissed from the Armed Forces, but they should not be allowed to wallow in prison. The point has been made that money meant for them was shared. If those who shared it are not likely to face death sentence, they even enjoy the liberty of bail from our high court, nothing justifies harsh treatment to the victims of their own executive rascality. “So, I appeal to President Buhari to use his powers to grant them pardon even if they will not be allowed to retain their uniforms. We all have learnt to be vigilant and to support our Armed Forces.” While emphasizing the importance and sanctity of our unity, Oshiomhole called on the political class to be mindful of their utterances in the overall interest of the country saying, “I want to use this occasion to appeal to our political class not to allow their personal and selfish interest to override national interest and consideration and make inflammatory statements that questions the unity of our great country. I hold the view that the unity of a nation state cannot be treated the way the unity of voluntary association is done.” Governor Oshiomhole pledged the government’s continued support for the Armed Forces and the wards of soldiers who paid the supreme price in ensuring the unity of the nation. He said, “Edo State Government will support the legion with the sum of 10million naira and I will appeal to the legion to particularly show firm support to those widows arising from Boko Haram activities. If there is any of them whose children is in Edo State who are supposed to be in school, in universities and they are not there, because their parents are no more, Edo State Government even at this hour, we are ready to pick up their school fees that they may be able to attend university, colleges of education or polytechnics as the case may be to show that we do care that they died just so that we might survive here.” Governor Oshiomhole along with other dignitaries later performed the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph of the unknown soldier at the Museum ground, Benin city. sourcewww.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/mutiny-oshiomhole-begs-for-66-soldiers/ |
How on earth will a broke nation pay this kind of money to millions of naija youth. Keep deceiving ur shallow minded children |
Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, on Thursday said indolent youths would not be beneficiaries of the N5,000 stipend that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government promised to give the unemployed. Emphasising that there was nowhere in the world where the government would pay people to go and “sleep”, Ngige revealed that the programme would be in collaboration with some state governments. He was speaking at the secretariat of the APC in Abuja. “We won’t pay N5,000 for people to be indolent. No country in the world would pay people to go home and sleep and collect cash,” he said. “Some people would get N5,000; we will pay some N10,000, and even for people in teacher conversion scheme, we would get more than N10,000, N15,000 as stipend during training, and they are going to be employed by state governments and the federal government in different institutions. “It is not a programme we shall run alone; the state governments are going to buy into it, they are going to synchronize with us, we are going to do it in synergy. “So, we want to get back our youths, capture them, teach them to use their hands, and when they use their hands, they can earn money by employing themselves. “If you get a bricklayer, or a painter today, you cannot pay less than N5,000 for a daily job. And if somebody is able to work 20 days in a month for N5,000, he already has N100,000. “But, it’s a sad story today. That is why Togolese, Ghannians, and people from Benin Republic, Niger Republic, are the ones who do all these skilled job for us. “Eighty percent of workers in that specialised category in construction sites all over Nigeria, be it in Abuja, in Lagos or in Onitsha, come from outside, and we don’t know that little drops of water form an ocean. The money or the naira they are paid is repatriated to their country and all of them will come at the end of the day to put pressure on naira in the foreign exchange market.” source:https://www.thecable.ng/fgs-n5000-not-for-lazy-people-says-ngige |

Government Ekpemupolo, an ex militant leader popularly known as Tompolo, says he is yet to receive the summons of the federal high court in Lagos, which threatened to order his arrest if he does not appear before it on Thursday. The court’s summons is in connection with allegations of fraudulent land contracts for the construction of Nigerian Maritime University. Alongside Patrick Akpobolokemi, former director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 40-count charge of N13bn fraud against Tompolo. On Wednesday, the anti-graft agency, which had earlier invited the former commander of the Movement of the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) for questioning, said it was ready to arraign Tompolo and Akpobolokemi, who is already in custody. Responding to inquiries from TheCable on the threat to arrest him if he does not appear in court, Paul Bebenibo, spokesman of the ex-militant leader, said the court summons had not been served. “We have not seen the court summons, but there is no problem as long as the Nigerian judiciary is working,” he said. In December, Tomopolo raised an alarm that the federal government was witch-hunting him for refusing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). source:https://www.thecable.ng/im-yet-to-receive-court-summons-says-tompolo |

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, whose election was recently nullified, yesterday told a coalition of young Idoma professionals across Nigeria that he will not disappoint them if given the mandate to return to the upper chamber of the National Assembly. Mark, who was responding to the group’s call on him to stand firm for the survival of Idoma nation, said: “I am impressed with your firm commitment. I can see you spoke from your hearts. I will not fail you.” The coalition in a solidarity visit led by its coordinator, Mr. Oche Odang Josef was at the Abuja residence of Senator Mark yesterday to assure the lawmaker of their support as he returns to the poll on February 13 for the Benue South rerun election. The group made up of young professionals from Otukpo, Ohimini, Ado, Apa, Agatu, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo, Obi and Oju local government areas. They had told Mark that, “You remain our choice until the Idoma nation decides otherwise. For now, we have no reason to alter the equation. “We are convinced about your leadership. We know how much you have positively impacted on Idoma people. No matter the amount of treachery and mudslinging, we are irrevocably committed to your leadership.” source:dailypost.ng/2016/01/13/i-will-not-disappoint-you-mark-tells-idoma-youths/

A one-time presidential candidate and former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, has denied receiving, let alone making any refund of monies he purportedly got from embattled former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki. The EFCC is currently prosecuting Dasuki for diverting over $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase to fight Boko Haram to various individuals for the 2015 general elections. Mr. Ribadu in a statement on Tuesday said those trying to discreetly plant a story against him in the media should come forward with documentary evidence to suggest that he collected money from the ex-NSA or had made some refunds to government. “My attention has been drawn to insinuations in certain quarters of my purported repayment of some monies I was allegedly given by the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd)”, Mr. Ribadu said. “For the record, let me categorically state that I had nothing to do with the former NSA while he was in office. I cannot remember meeting him at any time while he held sway. “It is therefore shocking for me to be accused of receiving something from someone I never had any relationship with, not to talk of refunding money he gave me”, said Ribadu. The PDP governorship candidate in the last general elections in Adamawa State insisted that he did not receive any money from the former NSA either directly or through a proxy “There is therefore no reason for me to make any refund”, he said, adding “I have not been contacted by any security agency on this matter to warrant any action of that nature on my part”. source:www.informationng.com/2016/01/2-1b-arms-scandal-i-never-had-any-dealing-with-dasuki-ribadu.html |
God save us from this end time disease |
At least 40 Nigerians have lost their lives to the current outbreak of Lassa Fever across 10 states of the federation, but the ministry of health continues with efforts to keep the figures that low while eliminating the virus. Isaac Adewole, minister of health, had said at a press conference on Tuesday, that “the good news is that there have been no new confirmed cases or deaths in the last 72 hours . This is a reflection of our coordinated response and advocacy to all states.” To keep Nigerian safe, here are seven things you need to know about the viral disease and how to contain it. LIKE EBOLA LIKE LASSA – DEADLY Information is power to conquer, not power to intimidate. This is to arm with you with necessary information to combat the disease and not to scare you. Ebola and Lassa have so many things in common including, mode of transmission, symptoms, and origin. While Ebola was named after a River in Congo in 1976, Lassa is named after a village in Borno state, where the disease broke out in 1969, killing two missionary nurses. Lassa fever is a zoonotic disease, meaning that humans become infected from contact with infected animals, which are mainly rats. Like Ebola, Lassa is deadly, and is estimated to kill 5,000 people in West Africa, every year. LASSA CURRENTLY IN 10 STATES The first case of the current outbreak was reported from Bauchi in November, 2015. This was followed by cases reported by Kano State. According to the minister of health, the States affected include Bauchi, Nassarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo States. The total number so far reported is 93 and 41 deaths, with a mortality rate of 44 percent. LASSA CAN BE TRANSMITTED VIA SEX TOO According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the disease can be transmitted via sexual intercourse with infected persons, with such cases reported in the past. However, it is usually contracted from exposure to urine or faeces of infected Mastomys rats. It may also be spread between humans through direct contact with the blood, urine, faeces, or other bodily secretions of an infected person. Person-to-person transmission occurs in both community and health-care settings, where the virus may be spread by contaminated medical equipment, such as re-used needles. Lassa fever occurs in all age groups and both sexes. Persons at greatest risk are those living in rural areas where Mastomys are usually found, especially in communities with poor sanitation or crowded living conditions. HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE CONTRACTED LASSA FEVER One of the tricky issues with this disease is that it is largely asymptomatic, meaning a patient may be a carrier of a disease or infection but experience no symptoms at all. The good news, however is that, for most asymptomatic cases, the disease may resolve itself and “die a natural death” or eventually show up symptoms which must be combated immediately. According to Centre for Disease Control (CDC), signs and symptoms of Lassa Fever typically occur one to three weeks after the patient comes into contact with the virus. For the majority of Lassa fever virus infections (approximately 80%), symptoms are mild and are undiagnosed. Mild symptoms include slight fever, general malaise and weakness, and headache. In 20 percent of infected individuals, however, disease may progress to more serious symptoms, including hemorrhaging (excessive bleeding in gums, eyes, or nose, as examples), respiratory distress, repeated vomiting, facial swelling, pain in the chest, back, and abdomen, and shock. Neurological problems have also been described, including hearing loss, tremors, and encephalitis. Death may occur within two weeks after symptom onset due to multi-organ failure. LASSA HAS NO CURE Lassa, like many other diseases bedevilling the world today, has no cure. However, ribavirin, an antiviral drug, has been used with commendable success in Lassa fever patients. It has been shown to be most effective when given early in the course of the illness, but patients also receive supportive care consisting of maintenance of appropriate fluid and electrolyte balance, oxygenation and blood pressure, as well as treatment of any other complicating infections GOOD NEWS: LASSA CAN BE PREVENTED Prevention of Lassa fever is possible. That is basically built around promoting good “community hygiene” to bar rats from entering homes. Grains and other foodstuffs should be stored in rodent-proof containers, while disposing garbage far from the home, maintaining clean households. A large number of Nigerians do not love keeping cats, but the WHO prescribes that keeping cats can help keep Lassa fever away, by keeping rats away altogether. Family members should always be careful to avoid contact with blood and body fluids while caring for sick persons. TREATMENT IS FREE IN NIGERIA Ribavirin is relatively cheap, but said to be expensive for those really affected by the outbreak, hence, Isaac Adewole, the minister of health, has said “all health facilities in the country are hereby directed to emphasize routine infection prevention and control measures, and ensure that all patients are treated free”. If any of the symptoms highlighted above are seen, Nigerians are advised to immediately contact the state epidemiologist in the state ministry of health or call the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Federal Ministry of Health using the following numbers: 08093810105, 08163215251, 08031571667 and 08135050005. Remember, treatment is free! source:https://www.thecable.ng/7-things-you-need-to-know-about-lassa-fever |

He said he was only asked by Jonathan to submit an account into which the money he expended on a political assignment by the former president and candidate of the PDP for last year’s presidential election could be paid A former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Tony Anenih, has distanced himself from the $2.1 billion arms scam. Anenih, in a letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said the N260 million traced to his account by the Commission was from former President Goodluck Jonathan, a refund for political expenses on behalf of the former president. Anenih, in the letter, said he was not aware that the money was from the Office of the former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki. He said he was only asked by Jonathan to submit an account into which the money he expended on a political assignment by the former president and candidate of the PDP for last year’s presidential election could be paid. He said he was therefore not in a position to know which Office his account details would be sent for reimbursement. Anenih said part of the assignment he undertook for Jonathan was the sealing of a pact with the Social Democratic Party for the party’s support for the former president’s presidential bid. This involved Anenih releasing N100 million to the SDP, which was collected and acknowledged by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Olu Falae. Anenih attached a copy of his correspondence with Falae to the response he sent to the EFFC’s query on the controversial N260 million received from Dasuki’s office. The letter by Anenih to Falae, dated January 26, 2015, established the agreement the PDP reached with the SDP for inter-party cooperation to support Jonathan’s presidential ambition. The letter, entitled: “Inter-Party Co-operation,” and signed by Anenih in his capacity as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP reads in part: “I write to sincerely thank you for your letter dated January 23, 2015, on the above subject matter. “After due consultations with relevant stakeholders of our party, I am pleased to convey to you our decisions on the issues and to further inform you that the President and the leadership of our party have expressed delight and strong optimism to fully cooperate and work with the SDP in the circumstance.” The PDP, through Anenih, also made a number of promises to the SDP on certain critical issues to which Falae’s party demanded explanation and commitment from both the PDP and Jonathan. For instance, Anenih stated on the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference as demanded by Falae in an earlier letter: “Please be assured that the report of the National Conference will be implemented to the letter. We believe that having regards to the fact that the National Conference was a baby of the President, he is in a better position to implement it. And this is what he is doing.” On the demand for “zero tolerance to corruption”, Anenih responded: “There is no doubt that our party, the PDP, and your party, the SDP, are on the same page on this issue. Apart from the fact that this administration has done more arrests, investigations, prosecutions and convictions of corrupt cases, the President has continuously laid emphasis on the need to develop an appropriate technology to comprehensively combat corruption and its vices. “The approach, for example, has produced immense results in eliminating corruption that was associated with the distribution of fertilizers in Nigeria in the past.” On “intensification of efforts to defeat insurgency” as demanded by the SDP, Anenih wrote: “It is the primary duty of Government to protect the lives and property of its citizens and secure the territorial integrity of the nation. This Government has consistently made efforts to deal with the challenges of Boko Haram who have established their operational base somewhere between some States in the North-East of the country and the boundary with some of our neighbouring African countries. “Terrorism has become a global phenomenon and fighting it requires the co-operation of not just the entire citizens but the support of the international community. The President is working on this. In his recent visit to Borno and in a rally in Maiduguri few days ago, he assured the people that every inch of Nigerian soil currently under the control of insurgents will be recovered in no distant time.” On “combating unemployment”, Anenih stated: “This is certainly a primary focus of this Administration considering the various programmes designed and implemented since 2011; programmes such as SURE-P, YouWin, Agricultural and Industrial transformation, including the railways that have generated massive employment opportunities for Nigerians. The President intends to sustain the tempo and improve on existing records.” On “reduction of recurrent expenditure and increase in capital expenditure”, Anenih gave this explanation to Falae and the SDP: “This is an area that the President is not only ready to give a critical look at but he is also prepared to welcome new ideas and positive contributions from leaders of the SDP.” The sixth issue raised by the SDP through the letter by Falae was on the “participation of SDP in the PDP Government”. Anenih wrote: “Please be assured that the SDP will be considered as worthy participant in the Government and will be adequately consulted in this regards.” source:theeagleonline.com.ng/anenih-to-efcc-jonathan-gave-me-n260m-not-dasuki-from-2-1b-arms-fund/ |

A former National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Alliance, Chief Sam Nkire, has condemned all the political parties that collected what he termed “blood money” in order to endorse former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election. Speaking on the “DasukiGate” for the first time, Chief Nkire said those who collected money from the office of the National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, knew full well they were collecting blood money meant for soldiers fighting the war against Boko Haram. According to Chief Nkire, who is now a member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress, no national chairman of any political party worth its salt should collect bribe to endorse the candidate of another political party no matter how hungry they were. Nkire said as the National Chairman of PPA, neither him nor his party asked for, let alone collected money from a presidential candidate of another political party. He condemned the Peoples Democratic Party for not supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption, adding that it was a strange irony that no member of the PDP seemed to either hate or condemn corruption. The APC chieftain therefore called on all Nigerians, including members of the opposition parties, to support the war against corruption. According to him, the bad effect on the economy spares no one. source:theeagleonline.com.ng/2015-poll-jonathan-distributed-blood-money-for-votes/ |

Dasar said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Saturday that the warning became necessary as investigations showed that the disease had resurfaced in Kano and some states in the South West The Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria in Plateau State, John Dasar, has cautioned its members to ensure strict bio-security measures to avert another outbreak of bird flu. Dasar said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos on Saturday that the warning became necessary as investigations showed that the disease had resurfaced in Kano and some states in the South West. He called on the farmers to adopt stringent bio-security measures to forestall the outbreak of the disease. He said: “Bird flu is one of the fastest spreading diseases in Nigeria. “This is because poultry products are being moved from one point to another and from state to state. “The last time the disease began in Lagos around January 8, 2015 and by January 18 of that same year, it was already recorded in Plateau, meaning that within the span of just 10 days, it had reached our domain. “Reports have it that the disease has shown its ugly head in Kano and some states in the South West. “So the need for our farmers to be reminded to take their bio-security more seriously.” The chairman explained that a lot of farmers suffered during the last outbreak of the disease in the state and that PAN would not allow such an ugly incidence to affect its members again. Dasar said: “We are calling on farmers not to relax on adhering strictly to bio-security measures because Nigeria is not yet free of bird flu.” Dasar, however, said since June 2015, no case of the disease had been reported in the state and commended the efforts of the farmers who kept to terms with the tenets of poultry business.
