See, we don't have the evidence for that yet - I know we are talking of Nigeria where all things evil seem possible, but I still think there is so much of the details of this missing. We do not have access to the details . . . no one seems to, except the state, and I wish it would release information already so people start feeling more a part of the process. I remember when it used to be so in Lagos and I long for the return of those days.
really? there was a time when government was open?. . .sounds hard to believe.

when i click the insert picture icon it gives this but attempt to copy it will fail as the paste will not be highlighted
you're supposed to insert the link to the picture in between the '' if the picture is online,

if the picture is offline you can either attach it to the thread or upload it to a site like photobucket or whatever and then do the https://www.christianshirts.net/images/specialedition/gotjesus350.gif

i simply pasted this link http://www.christianshirts.net/images/specialedition/gotjesus350.gif inbetween the [img][/img] and voila it displayed the picture, so all you need to do is find a link to the picture you want. . .c'est fini

lol. . .your own reply got tagged as spam too

*aside* since when did i become OC spambot monitoring sef?

Wild idea, huh? But think about this. What if all the electrical engineers in Nairaland came together and formed a co-op? Actually contribute funds towards the production of , say, local electrical low-power-consumption appliances like bulbs. Hire local engineers, use local raw materials, etc.
What do you guys think?
i agree with this your idea o, immediately i saw it in wallie's post, i started discussing with one of my friends on how we could fund something on a drastically smaller scale at our alma matter, something along the lines of a 100grand prize for most innovative microcontroller design. . .i think that's what we need in nigeria, if our government refuses to celebrate us then we might as well celebrate ourselves!

lol I know!!

Anywhoz, I got a question for you. . . .

1. I'm 7hrs away from home and my siblings have used that opportunity to start using cuzz words. . . . which they learned in school. Take in mind that these are elementary kids. Sadly, my mom is always at work and has too much going to control them. How do I stop these kids from growing up too fast? I'm thinking of bringing them up here to spend the summer with me so that I can pull their ears very well, but with school, its impossible. Gimme some ideas, plz.
i dont think you'll ever be able to stamp it out totally. . .it might just be a phase,we all go through it, but if you've been raised well you'll eventually pul through

even more annoying is that response above 'u guys have to get a bigger transformer' y are the residents doing nepa's work? After paying bills, u know buy transformer, then u employ an engineer not a technician? Bloody hell nigerians are very patient o!!! several months without power sum1 tells u to go n actually find out what exactly is wrong, if u have to do all this yourself, why dnt they just burn the nepa office n save tax money??
Eku suru o
it isn't PHCN that overloads the transformers is it? the amount of money PHCN collects as electricity bills every month isn't even enough for it to run itself. . .if any blame is to be shared PHCN wont even get lions share!

hypothetical question: you've just built a house and you want to connect it to the grid, you go to PHCN and tell them, and they tell you 'i'm sorry sir/madam we cant connect you to supply because we dont have the capacity' what would you do?

tens of thousands of consumers are connected to an already stressed grid every year without any commensurate increase in generation (and this has been going on for years, imagine the backlog). . .and yet y'all are expecting constant electricity. . .i laugh in spanish. . .lol

if anything the politicians should take the lions share of the blames, followed by PHCN staff and lastly all nigerians.

i'm back. . .what can i say. . .i'm a sucker for punishment grin

just a word though, as a civil servant(that's what lecturers in federal universities are), it's illegal for you to be involved in any activity other that farming in addition to your job(i think it's even in the constitution. . .lol).

CAVEAT: 9.9 out of 10 civil servants flout this rule though however if there's ever any reason for your bosses to put you in trouble, they will snitch, but since almost er'one is doing it, it rarely happens sha(i know one lecturer it happened to though, he was teaching in another uni part-time)

just thought you should know. . .

and BTW there could be a measure of hostility from other lecturers, the fed govt is in the process of enacting a rule(abi is it a law) that makes a PhD compulsory for all lecturers, so people that have spent donkey years working on their PhDs might not like you(my former course adviser spent 12+).

Ok since we are it I better say my own now, Who knows someone might be able to help

There has been no light in Aradagun Badagry since April 2009; It is over a year now since the area has been in complete darkness  cry

Something to do with a broken down transformer. I understand that tenants and Landlords in the area put money towards this to have it fixed, but it only worked for 3 weeks before breaking down again & since then its been total darkness.
it could be that your transformer is overloaded and y'all need to get a bigger transformer. . .the best thing to do would be to get real engineers involved not technicians. the alternative could be the lines are overloaded, and if that's the case you guys'll be on a longer thing, but i'd put my money on transformer. . .if a transformer 'blows', replacing it should come only after finding out why it happened in the first place, but folks at PHCN are usu too lazy.
PoliticsRe: Please Help Six (6) Months Black Out In My Area by netotse(m): 10:12pm On May 23, 2010
could you tell me exactly what he said? thing is, you need to know exactly what the problem is before you start complaining, for you that could make the difference between being ignored and actually getting somebody to listen to your case. . .

when you can state what exactly is wrong, the next logical step would be for your resident's association to seek a meeting with the CEO of the distribution company, knock on doors until you find someone that's willing to talk to you. . .

most importantly though, be polite!, more often than not, when pple talk to PHCN staff, they do so with 'attitude' and that could make the difference between the person deciding to help you or telling you 'i dont know, it's not my business'

Regardless the guy is asking a honest question lol  cheesy
if he's an engineer that's the question to ask, it's the same thing as asking what's your specialisation, or how many lecturers do you think simply teach?. . .of which i admitted i was at fault now. . .the idea of him rushing to brand me S.I. unit of thread derailment is what i dont like. . .

First of all shall I say that I posted this thread not with the intentions of being egoistic! Whilst acknowledging the fact that anyone who previously lived abroad and returned home (or people who haven’t travelled abroad, but knows the reality on ground) may have one or two things to say which would be quintessentially useful for my situation, I’m also aware that too many people derail threads on NL. For example, netotse, the first person to respond asked “what sector are you planning to go into” when this was already apparent in my post. This partly explains why I’m keen to hear from professionals and academics. Besides, I was hoping to hear from anyone in the same profession that left the West for Nigeria to give me feedback on their experiences back home in Nigerian universities. Consensus seems to be give it a test ride first (PapaBrowne "visit first for a month or two before making a final decision"; Kobojunkie "go down there for 3 to 6 month periods at first"; ftmom “set up a trial period during which you can decide what you want to do long term.”) I would certainly do this. Some also suggested business. I definitely wouldn’t go into business in Naija.
guess what ppl? today is let-hotshot-doctorate-wielding-fella-stylishly-insult-me-and-get-away-with-it-day cheesy

it was evident in your first post? you mentioned teaching in a university, i kinda meant what subject area(to think i was trying to avoid posting off-tangent), i should've been clearer mea culpa. . .if you're an electrical engineer with a PhD university of lagos will employ you easily, that's the sorta thing that was going through my mind, was also planning to help search for lecturers salaries but i guess i have better things to do(what with me being NLs chief thread-derailer and all cheesy)

what if the poster was 'the seeker'? and he was trying to learn how to change his IP so he wouldn't be caught the same way he was caught last time?

i dont know how you can tell the OP is on the 'up n up' from a single statement. . .

i made room for the poster being legit, that's why i asked for a reason, if i thought or knew OP was up to something fishy, i wouldn't have bothered myself.

like i stated earlier, the information he asked for isn't particularly special, however, if i'm going to teach someone to do something that could be used for illegal purposes, dont you think I have a right to seek assurance of some sort that it wouldnt be used wrongly?
