man it feels good to be back on a computer o. . .GPRS sucks! |
banku:are we talking development or parables here? @babapupa u need to stop trading insults with these people. . .you risk making yourself look as pitiful as they do, at least when kobojun kie and the others were posting we were spared stories about how it is a taboo to point at your house with your left hand or the insults and they displayed(to some extent) that they were able to reason but |
Shogun - james clavell |
Hardtalk:i agree with you on this, the LASG should look into providing affordable housing for the 'new workers' cos from my end it seems they are doing very little in terms of that. . .personally, i'm still not over the tejuosho stunt, but that isn't what this thread is about is it? |
Kobojunkie:even me? I'll choose to see that as a complement, sey they are being run concurrently(the railway and LFTZ projects), someone pasted in his reply that on the railway there'll be a line that goes straight to the LFTZ, could it be you haven't been reading the replies? |
Omo i don dey pace myself o. . .i'm going to wait for 20 to come out and then watch 18-20 at once. . . |
Has the light rail been constructed? At least they have started work on the railway in lagos, and also lagos is where the action is, it's unfair to compare the two cities |
@kobojunkie but is/was it as thoroughly thought out as LFTZ seems to be? this is a little something i got from wikipedia A free trade zone(FTZ) or export processing zone (EPZ) is an are of a country where some trade barriers such as tarrits and quotas are eliminated and bureaucratice requirements are relaxed in the hopes of attracting new business and foreign investments. It is a region where a group of countries have agreed to reduce or eliminate trade barriers. Free trade zones can be described as labour intensive manufacturing centres that involve the importing of raw materials or components and the exporting of factory products. now someone tell me how something like this^^ wont benefit from having an airport next door?(or you think they'll still want to be using the national relic we refer to as MMA?) |
Kobojunkie:i could kiss you for that(nahhhh, u'll have to work harder i dont come cheap!). . .that's what i've been trying to say all along. . .the LFTZ will generate traffic, that's one of the reasons it stands a far better chance than tinapa. . .accessibility! |
The psychology of emotion:from theory to everyday bla bla bla. . .by k. Strong very boring book! |
I think it's also important to be careful when you're using embarrasment/humiliation to teach children, cos they can end up hating you. . . I'm not against it, i'm just saying some of us tend to overuse it and then justify it. |
banku:the parts i highlighted in your post are why i'll find it difficult to take you serious. . .why are you trying to take us back? It's obvious you're not as interested in the issue as you are in the personalities at play. we've overflogged this 'who'll-use-the-airport' issue so badly that i seriously think if we flog it anymore we'd be guilty of animal cruelty. . .i implore you to re-read blacksmith's last paragraph(if you even bothered to read it in the 1st place) and think about it. . . |
candylips:nahhhh. . .i think we're somewhere in the middlebelt, benue perhaps ![]() |
nobilia:if you have something relevant to contribute please feel free to do so. . .otherwise waka pass, we've been having a good discussion here so far and we dont need pple to come and spoil it. . .post reported! @odiaero you're missing the point, you use a plane filled with passengers as your justification, but the airport is tied to the LFTZ, i asked somewhere on this thread whether it made sense to transport imported goods meant for the LFTZ all the way from ikeja to lekki, to you an airport is simply a place where you get on a plane to travel, but to some of us it's much more. . . |
tunde300us:i agree with you, esp on the bit about the misconception. . . Also for those that want a bit more info on the badagry project, this was in the news today, sorry i cant paste the content, i'm browsing via gprs http://businessdayonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10604:lagos-badagry-road-to-be-completed-within-projected-period-&catid=85:national&Itemid=340 |
Kobojunkie:we have the adopt a school thingy now. . . @at the emboldened but that's the thing, companies go into business to make profit, so it's only natural they chase the attractive places. |
^my point was that opposition to the airport without taking the FTZ into consideration seemed. . .somehow, i put your name cos you used the word 'elitist' i put the et al there so it wont seem like i was picking(for want of a better word)on you. . . what i understand by the anti-poor v pro-poor thingy is this: the pro-poor person would rather the government spent money on the people, it's a laudable idea, but, it still wont earn money for the government, and government cant solve all society's problems the anti-poor people however, would rather the money is used to create value (per se) which in turn would benefit the individual. . . *i know it's oversimplifying it, but it's a case of would you rather have a job, or a tarred road in front of your house?* however adopting only one view wont work, finding a way to combine both would be more desirable I must say i'm surprised this thread hasn't turned into a free for all, proof that even on nairaland we can disagree without insulting each other |
@kunbee hey miss, hope you're good?. . . @thread need to get off my hiny and brush my teeth. . . |
I'm loving this thread, big time. . . @kobojunkie et al from what i've read so far, the airport is tied to the free trade zone, elitist or not, it makes sense, or would you rather the I'm beginning to see papabrowne's point wrt pro-poor and anti-poor, it's all a question of where you're viewing the problem from, most of the pro-poor pple think 'just another airport so its easier for the lekki pple to jet outta the country' (i wont lie, i thought so too until u guys brought up the FTZ angle) the good part about it is the PPP aspect, but i'm willing to bet if the airport is built then concessioned, some of us will still complain |
@sjeezy doyin is actually right here, what the article is concerned with is strictly distribution, you bringing IPP's into it is a long thing, what you described is called captive generation and it has noting to do with the original article. . .(it would work but it's a long expensive process, esp. in naija) For those worried about price, its the NERC that determines how much consumers pay in nigeria, so whoever buys the coys. Wont be able to bill you to death, however electricity bills are going to double over the next 5 or so years, so people should start preparing. . .lol @OP I think the deal will fall through, one major reason is that its the states that want to buy the companies, lagos might be able to run theirs but not portharcourt, the way the distribution grid is set up lumps states together, so putting one state in charge of another states supply wont work(although the states could come together and buy it, but how'll they share the electricity?) Even if the companies are sold, with the way the sector is run now, there wont be much of a diff. Operationally, their load allocations wont change(i.e. The amount of MW they're allocated everyday), the new owners would be obliged to spend money on improving the infrastructure in addition to the money they woulda had to cough out of various body opening, the whole thing just seems like very bad economics to me |
semid4lyfe:yeah, i've always wondered the rationale behind the bolded(sic) |
@eldee happy birthday. . . |
@Ajanlekoko chybyke replied you with a rather long post and i think the spambot junked it, twice! Devt. pple in the telcos, about something called myxpal, heck y'all might have met already! |

If you have any other issues feel free to holler. . .best of luck! |

.Am sure so many ppl arguing here especially against any good thing from lagos re not resident here and that explains their ignorant cos i dont see the sense in saying things like THE STATE GOVT IS WASTING FUNDS, when you have been told it is a PPP arrangement. And most PPP is basically BOT.
