Great. Thanks

Ardunolarh:
Not a permanent resident. The hospital gives you the birth registration form to fill once you put to bed and their health records office helps submit. This can take a while , so if you are leaving the country earlier. It's better to tell them at the hospital and apply for an expedited birth registration attaching your flight tickets and a letter stating why you want it fast tracked plus any other requirement from their end.

Once you have been given the estimated duration birth reg will take in the hospital, you go to a nearby registry to register for the birth certificate . If you cant wait for it to be mailed to you, inform them there you will prefer to pick up from the document office at Alberta Vital Statistics office downtown, which is faster, they will tell you when to pick up and hours of pick up is (1-4pm).

Next step you proceed for passport application at Canada Place which is about a 7 mins walk from Alberta vital statistics , Edmonton downtown. Pick up the form for Child , there is also a place in the building where you can take your baby's passport (better to take it there for right dimension issues). If you have all documents required for filling the form right there and all needed parties (including guarantor(if either of the parent is not a citizen) required to fill the form , you can submit right there. You can also expedite by applying for express if your travel date is close by showing your flight ticket or any reason you want it fast tracked .

Hello,

Please let us know what recent info you have on this process; I would also love to ask you some personal questions if you have already had your baby and are a PR.

Thanks

Hello, Please can you share how you went around the birth certificate submission and passport request in Edmonton. Where you given the birth certificate form in the hospital and what location did you submit in? How long did it take please . Looking forward to your response. Thanks for your kind help.

Well, Hello!!!!!

Winterpeg:
Hi,
I believe its possible to be with the kids alone since you are planning to go to school. It's going to be tough but its doable. Just get daycare for the kids. If you plan to work though then it might not be doable except you get a very flexible job.
You could pick your courses carefully and work around your kids schedule. I heard of someone that bagged a phd and did a postdoc while taking care of 3 kids. And the lady said what has helped her is that she has been consistent. She would drop off her kids by 7 in the morning and try to do her work between 8am and close between 3 and 4pm.
I have 3 and I have been with them alone and sometimes I get very tired of them. So you are the real MVP.

Hello people,

How have you guys been? Congrats to everyone on one progress or the other made so far?

I short landed recently but have not gotten PR cards and it has been about two months since i landed. Can anyone please advise on how best to track or tackle this?

I would appreciate prompt response. Thanks
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 1:14pm On May 10, 2019
Thanks. Thats a consideration.
raphrulz:
My best advice to you (which one of my friends is adopting), try and land in a province that medical healthcare starts from day 1, say Calgary, then you can subsequently move to another province. If it's Ontario, my dear, nothing like healthcare in the first 3 months.

Cheers**
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 1:13pm On May 10, 2019
Thanks for this. The information is well appreciated.
Iyamefa:
If you’re bent on landing in Ontario, you might want to take on the services of a midwife. They are funded to provide care to all residents of their catchment area, regardless of whether or not they have OHIP.
Midwifery services are covered for uninsured clients and there is funding for consultations and labs, but there are a number of other expenses that uninsured clients may face. Bottom line is - Childbirth in Ontario before eligibility for OHIP isn’t free but you can reduce your cost by using the services of a midwife.
More details here

Wow!!! Thats scary. Someone mentioned though that after i get the PR card, it might be possible to claim back the hospital fees. What do you think? (quote author=canadaman18 post=78157326]

There is no way around this unfortunately[/quote]

Hello Everyone,

Please I need a "personal" response to this very pressing question,( ie you have , or know someone who has ) as I might have more questions. How does a landed immigrant (ie PR) have a baby in Ontario without having to incur medical expenses if for instances the person lands in the 8th month of pregnancy , this is bearing in mind the 90 days or so waiting period for Ontario's health card.

Urgent responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks. I was actually asking cos I know there are some requirements around one spouse travelling with the kids and getting some kind of authorization from the other parent. I dont know how it applies in practise especially going into Canada
ITABABE:
are you the principal applicant. If yes then no issues. Your husband can land later before his visa expires or not as it relates to your family situation. Your coprs, goods to follow(if any) and your passports are all you need and then of course the address where your pr cards will be sent to.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 10:57pm On Apr 12, 2019
Yes you can.

Newmum0615 How are you o, I am still waiting for your response to my PM
Newbeecey:
Ahhhh!!! Like you know exactly why I am about to PM her. Newmum0615 biko just send me a copy of your goods accompanying list and goods to follow form because that ur 700kg cargo is the truth. How are you doing now?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 3:10pm On Mar 01, 2019
MMHHNN...I did not hear about any issue with CP Ontario, thats where I sent my transcipt to. Can you please expatiate on this "complicated process'?
raphrulz:
Hello,

HST was not applicable in my case because my friend paid exactly the amount that was quoted for the course. WHich was what i paid him the cash equivalent for.

As for CPA Ontario, they respond faster no doubts, but have a more complicated process. My friend who helped me pay also discouraged me from going that route when i complained about the extremely slow response rate of BC. He also processed his own as an accountant.

He advised me to finalize all the conversion before I land. Besides, CPA ontario only processes the conversion when you are on ground.

So you may need to weigh your options well sha.

Who did you send your transcript to?? (CPA BC or ON??)
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 2:15pm On Mar 01, 2019
Right, I actually meant HST on payment for the course, since the person that paid for you is in CA. I have only sent transcripts to them, I am going through CPA Ontario, found out from someone here a while back (cant remember) that they are faster
raphrulz:
This will be deducted. They will ask you to send them a copy of your birth certificate.

However, I am still waiting for their feedback on this, as I am yet to be contacted to make payments yet.

Once they confirm all my documents satisfactory, then the payment for subscription+ membership comes up.

What stage have you reached?? and are u going through CPA British Columbia?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 9:33am On Mar 01, 2019
Wow thats great. Thanks for your very detailed response. Did you have to pay HST too considering you are not resident in CA?
raphrulz:
Hello,

I got someone residing in CA to pay on my behalf. I transferred the naira equivalent to his Nigerian account.

He raised a draft addressed to CPA, in favour of me. (So my full name was clearly written in the draft, as payment in favour of me)

Then he attached the bank draft to a print-out of the email trail showing my online order for the course.

Then submitted it at their office.

Immediately he submitted it, he then sent a mail to the same lady that responded to my order request sent via mail, to inform her that the draft had been paid... so they could process.

This was done the same day...infact within a few hours.

And as a sharp guy naa.... I finished the entire course in less than 2 days.

No time to waste. Especially considering the delay by CPA BC. Approximately 8 weeks to respond.

Hi Vcole. How are you doing? Are you still in Calgary? I have a couple of questions to ask you, is it fine to PM you?

TEECANN:
I join you in congratulating our sister @agates on the beautiful addition to the family. God's blessings won't cease from our families.

BTW...

@Newmum0615,

Congratulations on your landing story. It was indeed ground breaking(I can relate with the emotions behind every line typed...

I'm already fighting back mine too...sometimes, I tell myself we'll go land and return back to naija and go back permanently after 1 year grin grin grin...I laugh at myself at those thoughts..the main fear isn't lack of finances or whether one will get an immediate job replacement but rather leaving behind several cherished and built relationships, ones communities-church, social life etc...it's well. Whenever those thoughts come up though, I immediately "auto-correct" them with the main reasons I wanted out in the first place. ..we focus on the goal as we move to loftier phases of our lives)

Biko, let's relate via email as we need some tips for food packing....it's odikwa very important! grin

It will end in praise IJN!

Hello,

Have u gotten a response to this now?? Because I am almost done with the entire conversion process.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Newbeecey: 5:12pm On Feb 21, 2019
Unfortunately, those of us that have not landed or gotten admitted cannot access it naa..Does it close at some point in the year?
czaratwork:
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.flare.com/news/doug-ford-changes-for-ontario/amp/

Those of us in Ontario, the time to enjoy the OSAP loan is now especially the part of it that you don't have to repay. By next year, a lot will change. I hear people are rushing to enjoy it while it lasts.

If you have the intention to go to school, delay no further as we don't know what OSAP will look like next year.

Please anyone well informed should enlighten us on changes in OSAP loan.
