Today I am going to share something I came across on the internet.. and it is very important that those who want to make in life or those who have already made it in life go through this..

What I do is impact in people as well as impact in myself, by helping people reach heights and set goals for themselves which they are once afraid to set..

Here are the 12 mental money traps you must never fall for

1. "I just want enough to be comfortable."

At the core of the middle class is some idea that they can somehow find this place of comfort, which becomes a compromise for any possibility of financial freedom. Consider that a significant number of people save little money for retirement. This has caused masses of people to be unable to quit working at retirement age, because they are without enough money to take care of themselves during economic contractions.

Nigerians ladies say this a lot, although I have come across a man on nairaland who told me that he is humble and doesn't want much, but just to be comfortable.. I hope he can read this and go back on that conviction which he chooses to hold on to.

2. "I need to make money."

It’s actually against the law to make money -- that is the job of the government, which over the last decade has been more and more willing to manufacture money in unjustified amounts. This idea -- that you need to make money to have it -- limits you to believing you must trade time for money. Quit thinking about making money and think in terms of collecting it. When you trade something of value with the public you will get money in return.

3. "Bigger isn’t better."

Wrong. Bigger is better and more is glory. Quit thinking little. The best companies in the world are big. Staying small takes a lot of energy. I talk about this in The 10X Rule -- go 10 times bigger than you think is necessary. It’s more fun and it gives you a better chance of succeeding.

Over the last 12 months I have interviewed more than 50 very successful entrepreneurs that run million-dollar companies to $100 million companies that started with nothing. Almost every one of them shared with me that their biggest regret was not thinking bigger from the beginning.

4. "More money, more problems."

This is simply an idea that those without money use to justify having less and being broke. If more money is more problems, then bring on the problems, because I tried being broke and that was more than just a problem. Quit trying to make rich ugly -- it’s not.

The truth is the more money you have, the more control and choices you have over every aspect of your life. If you are sitting in a first class seat, it doesn’t mean you won’t have a drunk sitting next to you. Buying your own jet allows you to control who gets on it, but now you have to hire two pilots, a mechanic and feed the airplane. More money means new problems, not more problems.

5. "It takes money to make money."

The reality is more than three quarters of all millionaires today are first generation millionaires. That means that ordinary people got rich because they had the courage to follow up on their ideas.

The phrase, "it takes money to make money" is completely incorrect. It takes money to make more money. While later in life the rich use their money to create wealth, in the beginning stages it only takes courage and persistence to create money. This belief that you first need money makes you a victim and gives you no way out.

I started with no money, in fact, I was in debt. At the age of 25 I was broke, by the time I was 35 I was in a position to never be broke again.

Nigerians say this a lot, and that is why we have many aspiring entrepreneurs sitting in other companies today and working their heads off just to make a penny. I believe great ideas are to be invested upon and if you believe that your idea is so great that it can be converted into a business and then into profit.. then you can meet with investors for startup fund (capital). Instead of going for low grade jobs to keep yourself for the moment.

6. "Money doesn't grow on trees."

The person that commonly throws this phrase around is suggesting money is limited and scarce. There is something near $134,000,000,000,000 (trillion) on this planet -- most of which is merely represented by digits in bank accounts, investing accounts and the like. The only shortage of money on this planet is in the mind of those that don’t have money.

Like I normally say there is money everywhere.. During the recession, there were a lot of parties, thrown and a lot of beers consumed, a lot of brothels visited and a lot of school fees paid... There is money everywhere.

7. "Another day, another dollar."
The job force of America is trading time for money every day. Is your time worth $10 an hour or $50 an hour? The reality is no matter how much you get you are still selling time and you only have so much of it. Although in Nigeria it is a different case as services are being traded for money.

The rich exchange dollars for time because they know time is more valuable than money. Unwilling to trade money, the average person believes the only way to make more money is to work more hours. Big money requires thinking about money without time considerations -- think broad money.

8. "Money is the root of all evil."

The actual saying is "the love of money is the root of all evil.” It has been passed down inaccurately and become misunderstood that money is somehow evil. Rich is right, not wrong. Bill Gates told a college class, “if you are born poor it’s not your fault, if you stay poor it is.”

I believe it is evil to not be able to provide for my family, fund my church, take a trip, grow my business and feed my dreams.

Like the Bible said a man who cannot provide for his family is worse than an ....... (complete it yourself)

9. "A penny saved is a penny earned."

Believe this and you will never have financial freedom. A penny saved is a penny and if you spend your life thinking about pennies you will never create financial freedom. Saving in itself is not bad, but the masses are so focused on saving they never advance their money. No one ever got rich saving mone, they just got old.

10. "Money can't buy you happiness."

I never met a rich person that was trying to get happy while they were trying to get rich -- they have nothing to do with one another. In fact, my entire life I have not been seeking happiness. I have been seeking a meaningful life where I am free to do what I want to do and what I love the most.

I know happy and unhappy people. My wife is the happiest person I know and is happy regardless of how much money she has. I assure you she still likes having the freedom to spend money without constant worry. There is no way money can make you happy or unhappy -- it’s just money.

If you are a self-servicer, then you will be a self-servicer with or without money. If you are going to be unhappy, don’t be broke too.

This goes to mostly the ladies who are just looking to be comfortable (cc: laveda) get married and thats all..

11. "A penny for your thoughts."

This is the kind of damaging, freely thrown-around idea that shows how little people value their time and money. I own four businesses. They all started with ideas and were followed up with actions. The guy that created velcro, the founder of Starbucks, Ted Turner of CNN, Henry Ford and the likes all had ideas and they didn’t trade them for pennies.

Quit thinking about pennies and quit demeaning your ideas. Your possibilities are limited only by thoughts, ideas and actions.

12. "Rich people are selfish."

I must be honest, I have been selfish at times in my life so that I would never have to depend on anyone financially. My dad died when I was 10 and left my mom with just enough money to get her three boys fed, clothed and educated. She had to be a bit selfish so that she could take care of us.

It takes a bit of selfishness and self-esteem to prioritize taking care of yourself and creating financial freedom so that you don’t become a problem for others. If you don’t think enough of your own finances how are you ever going to make the difficult decisions and necessary choices for your spouse, children, community, and your future?

You better get somewhat selfish until you have something to share -- whether it is opportunity, money or wisdom. I'm sick of people saying, “If I had his money I would help so many people,” but they can’t help anyone financially, because they never focused on their own finances. They then live a life talking about what they would do, and not what they can do.

The fact is if you are already rich, you need to up your game and start thinking the way the super wealthy do. If not, maybe it's time to change the way you think about money.

Any rich person will tell you anyone can get rich. Any wealthy person will tell you the same. Get rid of the mental money traps and get your friends, family and associates on the same page with you. Remember, you are surrounded by limited thinking -- 76 percent of Nigerians live paycheck to paycheck. It seems like a bunch of people have the wrong information.

And I have this for you

Former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs made a mind blowing commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005. This speech remain part of his remembrance as Apple memorialized Steve Jobs who died five years ago.

He narrated three stories in the speech, one almost make me shed tears. I decided to share this with you all. Believe me, it worth reading.

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?” They said: “Of course.” My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents’ savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And sinceWindows just copied the Mac, it’s likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down – that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.
I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you’d have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I’m fine now.

This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960’s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

So here are the 5 tips every Nairaland guy should follow in 2017 - for their own good

1. Get enough Sleep

The amount of sleep you get is directly proportional to the amount of money you make. Don't believe me? Then that means you didn't follow my challenge.

So How does Sleep Have To With This

Lack of adequate sleep wrecks problem solving skills, it wrecks your decision making skills and it wrecks your learning skills. In fact, it makes you less of a man. Because you think and make decisions like someone who is average and this affects the plans you set today.. Men, we need sleep, you might say that while you are asleep your mates will be hustling... Actually, I believe your mates have been hustling for years now, jumping from one business opportunity to another, and spending so many years not achieving what they choose to achieve...(Well except the mates you are talking about are musicians and G boys).. So you be the change among them..

2. Exercise

What do you think happens to the metal parts of a machine when they are not lubricated.. They break down.. They lose efficiency, they become inaccurate, they work below their capacity.... and that is what is happening to you right now..

Give your body the energy it needs to go through your daily living.. Life is a battlefield and only the fittest get enjoy its luxury. Exercise your body so that you may be able to climb through any mountain,any hill, any obstacle.. Exercise your body so that you can escape a miserable old age...

Exercise more than just gives you the attractive and sexy body every girls want to see on her man... It more than just improve your bedroom skills and performance..

The rich does it everyday so that he can get richer... Checkout Mark Zuckerberg if you don't believe me..

3. Eat Good Food

Feed your body, what you feed it, is what you are today.. Because good food influences your mind and your mind is the center of all actions..
Your mind makes the best decisions only if it is well organized and good food does that..

You think you need a lot of money to eat very well.. Who told you that?

You don't have money to have buy enough fish or meat, well me neither... So what do I do... Fish is proteins.. .what you are eating here is proteins... I simply do food substitution... Fish = proteins... crayfish = proteins... No money to buy fish... No problem.. I simply go for the crayfish... I still get my proteins.. Whatever people might say.. just remember

"niggas will be sick when they remember all the bad they wished you"
"niggas be made when they can't come and live, lavish with you"

When you live the healthiest, you make the best decisions and get the highest positive rewards. and those who laughed will then come back to you.

4. Breathe

Breathing and Meditation Techniques are important to help you live a great life everyday... Breathing techniques helps you control anger, stress, impatience and every other emotion that controls the common man of today... I can't......i have a case to settle @ insomnia embarassed embarassed embarassed
I find it so difficult to sleep at night.......
Sometimes 234 I'm still awake shining my eyes but if eventually I managed to sleep by 4 by 7 dawn or 8 I'm up and running.......


I only sleep early when I'm stressed up cry cry cry cry cryIt no longer funny,i hardly do sleep over at friends place They might take me to be a witch or something...
Wow that is a lot... insomnia really eats up the body and from what I know it is more than just on the physical side

I actually did the One Week Sleep Challenge, although I did not follow it completely for the whole week... I am going to do it again, this week because of its benefits... Well here is my diagnosis...

After sleeping before 12am everyday for one week (last week).. That is I slept at exactly the same time everynight as you said..

I found out that

- I woke up stronger
- It became easier for me to fall asleep
- The headaches which I had sometimes were reduced
- It became easier for me to do my exercises
- It became easier to think and concentrate...

I hope everyone is doing this One Week Sleep Challenge

Actually, you are not an atomic bomb.... so there is no way you can implode or even explode.... I am not asking your to keep your anger inside.. I am asking you to control it... and channel the energy your emotion is building a more useful purpose...

When angry your body releases hormones.. and then you concentrate on situations which tend to increase the anger... Why can't you do the opposite... When angry, follow the breathing techniques, and then concentrate on nothing at all..

Helps you clear your mind, you will talk more calmly, you will be able to see a more mature perspective of things... and when this happens like 7 times and your body is still able to control it.. then your body will get used to it and you will have people who will want to learn from you

If you are reading this.... Sit down and build yourself, because you deserve to be better than you are right now

I just want to relate this common factor that is causing so much problem today, mostly in relationships, but it is also affecting everyday living.. Many people especially ladies don't know how to manage their emotions...

Yes, our emotions play a vital role in our living, happy, healthy, successful lives. All emotions, from love and joy to anger and fear are significant in understanding ourselves and others. They help us discover the wonders of this life as well as warn us when we are in danger. But this diversity of feelings is meant to compliment our lives and not determine them

When we are angry and frustrated by something in our life, we often take out our anger and frustration on someone else - usually our spouse, children or someone else with whom we share a close relationship. The problem is not our anger and frustration, as much as it is our lack of control.. Because as we concentrate on the situation that makes us angry and frustrated, it leads to an increase in these emotions and the lack of control causes us to release it like water from a tap.. either using words, or other actions..

An example of this is when during a heated or small argument a partner tells you "I have not seen anything you have done for me" when obviously you have stood by them through thick and thing..

Now lets talk about patience - or lack of it. Most people have a tendency to be very impatient. They wants things done, they want it done right. and they want it done right away, they don't want to repeat it twice - and certainly not three times..

Lack of Control...

So when will ladies learn to control themselves.. when will they learn to manage their emotions before their emotions manage them

When will men learn to control their anger or frustration rather than letting it control them...
