Christianity Etc › Re: He Has Qualified You - Pastor Chris by newmi(m): 9:55pm On Sep 14, 2011
You know it is pleasing to know that Christ is my QUALIFICATION
Colossians 1:12
"Giving thanks to the Father, Who has qualified and made us fit to share the a portion which is the inheritance of the saints( God's holy people) in the Light"
isn't amazing that l didnt have to do anything to be considered or declared "fit" to "share in" or "participate in" the portion of the saints but rather all l simply do is accept what "The Father" HAS ALREADY DONE. This is the beauty of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Was jesus speaking against funerals?
No not at all after all he said "let the dead BURY the Dead" at least there is burying taking place and what do you call a ceremony where burial(s) are conducted?
Jesus was was keen to bring our attention to the reality of that the natural man is everything but alive though living but is no different from the relative or friend lying six feet in the earth.

Claus:
If you read carefully from the beginning of 1 Corinthians 1, you'll see that the power that Paul was talking about is in the cross of Christ i.e. His death and ressurection.

Still on 1 Corinthians 1, if you look at verses 17 and 18 you'll see him referring to the power in the MESSAGE of the cross as being the power of God required for salvation.

If you look further at verse 22, you'll actually see him chastising the Jews for "demanding signs", instead of focussing on when "we preach Christ crucified".

Those that carry on seeking signs and wonders are setting themselves up for what was predicted in Matthew 24:24 below.

Matthew 24:24
24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

do you believe that era of signs, wonders and supernatural demonstrations of the power of God through the preaching of the gospel is still as alive and operative even today?

On the basis of your argument, the video above should further confirm your story right?
Magicians stage even more astounding tricks on a regular basis. Should people start believing in their power as well?
Magic will remain what it is "MAGIC" that doesn't change the reality of the power of God available to Christianity

People don't need such dramatics to believe in Christ.
Sure you are right they don't but when they do it is important they see for this simple reason
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
"And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."

When l posted my first video some people said well its a show, others said oh well its Pastor Chris and its preplanned.
Well here is another video and guess what its not Pastor Chris but still God is not a respecter of persons Jesus is the same in Nigeria as much as He is in Zimbabwe and the same shadow demonstration of the power of Christ by a man of God. How many more videos will convince you anyway that why l have openned this thread it is a celebration of the power of Christ in Christianity

What is Extreme Global Poverty?
in

* About

The numbers are staggering but are absolutely real. Behind each number is a human being: a mother, father, sister or brother. While ODW is not a religious organization, we are compelled by our faith and conviction that human life is sacred and precious. 3 billion people live on less than US$2/day. 1.4 billion people live on less than US$1.25/day - the definition of those who live under the condition of "extreme global poverty."

Consider the following:

* Approximately 9.2 million children under the age of 5 die each year, mostly from preventable diseases. That's approximately 25,000 children each day.
* 2.5 billion people around the world do not have access to adequate sanitation and about 885 million people do not have access to clean water.
* Every day, 4100 children die each day from severe diarrhea - as a result of poor sanitation and hygiene.
* Approximately 600 million children live in extreme poverty.
* Nearly 11,500 people die every day from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Nearly two-thirds of these people are living in sub-Saharan Africa.
* 69 million children are out of school around the world, a figure equivalent to the entire primary school-aged population in Europe and North America.

As a result to the Global Economic Recession, those living in extreme poverty have suffered the most. Recent increases in the price of food and oil have had a direct and adverse effect on communities that were struggling for survival even before the recession hit. The long-term effects of this recession are expected to potentially push millions more into extreme povery.

Global poverty facts:

* $1 challenge. More than 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day and more than 2 billion live on less than $2 a day.
* Check your assumptions. Americans believe that their government spends 24 percent of the federal budget on aid to poor countries, but the actual figure is less than 1 percent.
* Daily disasters. HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria—all treatable diseases—claim the lives of over 8,000 people every day in Africa due to lack of access to health care.
* The water walk. Women in developing countries travel an average of almost four miles each day to collect water.
* The poor pay more. People living in the poorest slums can pay as much as ten times more for water than those in high-income areas of their own cities.
* Gender disparity. According to the U.N., the majority of people in poverty are women, who globally earn roughly half as much as men.
* Daily bread. Food prices have risen 83 percent since 2005, disproportionately affecting those in poverty who spend a higher percentage of their income on food.
* No school for you. In 2005, a conservative estimate stated that 72 million children around the world of elementary school age were not enrolled in school.
* The global wealth gap. The richest 20 percent of the world's population receives 75 percent of the world's income, while the poorest 40 percent receive only 5 percent of the world's income.

Statistics are from the World Bank and the ONE Campaign.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Tithing Issue by newmi(m): 6:48pm On Aug 22, 2011
I think if we continue like this its possible this might not end but l think at this point the matter is simple; Tithing is Scriptural and Bible based if you don't believe it its your choice and an option that you have chosen no one should be forced to accept it and if you believe it good LET THE CHURCH MOVE ON
Christianity Etc › Re: The Tithing Issue by newmi(m): 4:47pm On Aug 21, 2011
wordtalk:
While we're waiting to see, let me make an important observation:

Lol. Actually, I'm not aching to correct anything you have said, even where you assume I've become an "anti-tither" (which I am not). I read you in context and don't think there's any issue there.

Indeed I believe in the veracity of tithing - for emphasis, I tithe in church and encourage others to do so. If people feel otherwise, there's no need for me to force or manipulate them to change their minds in order to start tithing. To force anyone to believe what I believe is not spiritual in the least, and will neither bring any glory to Christ nor even help the believer who's been forced into anything.

Having said all that, what I cannot defend are two things:

(a) the anti-tithing campaign to stop every other Christian from tithing altogether; and
(b) the pro-tithing campaign to force tithing upon all Christians

These two positions are simply noise making (my POV) and cannot be intelligently or Biblically defended. They are also quite a world apart from the idea of 'voluntary tithing' among Christians. The typical "anti-tithers" who argue that 'there's no place for tithing in Christianity' are not saying the same thing as that Christians can 'tithe voluntarily' - otherwise they will not go to great lengths to argue against tithing in the first place! To claim that these two diametrically opposed views are one and the same thing is plainly ludicrous.

However, what necessitates my comments here is the important point Enigma made: "sometimes what is left unsaid even "speaks" more volume" - and I totally agree! Which is why I'd just say that whether we tithe or express our giving in other ways, we must not ignore the serious problems of financial mismanagement, resource abuses and sacrilegious scandals from many 'pastors'. I think it should be obvious to all that these are the underlying concerns as to why many people react against any mention of tithing in the Church. These problems are deeper than arguments 'for' or 'against' tithes among Christians; and joining the anti-tithing bandwagon to campaign against tithing is not going to resolve these problems at all.

So, while affirming that Christians can indeed express their giving through tithing in a responsible manner, I don't find the anti-tithing position to be either meaningful or fruitful.
Makes a whole lot of sense

Enigma:
]tithes does not have to be taken into only "church"
Why huh

Enigma:
but can instead also be given to widows, orphans and other needy people etc, they are only playing games and some of us can see through the chicanery.
Then it wouldn't be appropriate to call it "Tithe" after all, or would it?

A Moment Of Truth
© Silke Wettergren
My dear love, I wanted to share
My thoughts, my feelings and
What makes me despair
I want to share with you
What makes me happy; what makes me feel blue,
So you can sense that my love is honest and true.

Every day not a single minute
Passes by without you in it
Your skin, your voice, your body and your touch
All of these moments, I miss them so much.

You are so present, so deep in my heart
And our souls, I just know, will never part,
But circumstance and distance can be so overwhelming
They close doors and create doubt and we start blaming,

There are actions of mine and I know that for sure,
That feel so wrong, though my intentions are pure
They are painful and impossible to bear
And you feel it's all so unfair.

You can't run from yourself;
There is no place to hide
It just hurts you so deep
It hurts your heart and your pride.

Then I worry that if I continue to stay
Will it be wrong and will I be in your way?
I fear that I am not at all what you need
And that this truth will make my heart break and bleed.

Then I sit here and wipe away my tears
Wishing you could kiss away my fears
If only you knew how much€¦.
I miss and need your embrace and your touch

I know I can't hide from my thoughts and my fear
And I know at these times I don't seem near
But you break down these walls
With the strength of your love
And then I feel blessed
From God above!

My love for you runs so deep through my vein
That I dream of you, in spite of the pain.

Until Forever Dies
© Serbec
This is us,
Never alone,
We have each other,
Whether in the same room,
Or by phone,
You will always be there,
I know you’ll never leave,
And there’s one thing I know,
This is the truth,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.

Because I’m yours,
And you’re mine,
Listening to your heart,
A rhythm so fine,
So much comfort,
So much love,
With only you I feel this,
Not any other boy,
Can I love so much,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.

Because we’re in love,
As everyone can see,
Never a broken heart,
Never a tear cried,
You can hold me in your arms,
And I’ll hold you in mine,
We will never let go,
Until the end of time,
‘cause I will never leave you,
And you won’t leave me,
We will be together,
Until forever dies.

Come Fly With Me
© Jenny Whitworth
Walk with me along the path,
And reach up towards the sky,
I’ll be right beside you,
Through each new thing you try.
And anytime you’re ready,
I’ll give you wings to fly.

If you’ve come upon some roadblocks,
That you struggle to get through,
Just know that I have gone ahead,
To clear the path for you.
And soon you’ll find the place,
That you have been walking too.

Walk with me, talk with me,
I’ll hear each laugh and cry.
I’ll be your help in trouble,
Your protector and ally,
And anytime you’re ready,
I’ll give you wings to fly.
