UNILAG STUDENTS DONATE BLOOD TO SICKLE CELL CHILD PATIENTS
No fewer than 360 students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) turned out on Wednesday to donate a pint of blood each to sickle cell and cancer child patients.
The donors trooped out in multitudes to donate their blood at the New Hall and Bookshop areas of the Akoka campus where makeshift blood transfusion centres were provided.

SUSPECTED CULTISTS INVADE CORPERS LODGE, CUT-OFF CORPS’ MEMBER’S HAND
A Youth corps’ members’ lodge at Angalabiri community in Sagbama Local Government of Bayelsa State was on Sunday attacked by suspected cultists who were said to have cut off the left hand of one of the corps’ members.
According to report, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. and caused panic among corps’ members serving in Sagbama local Government.

FG URGED TO EXTEND SCHOOL FEEDING TO OTHER PUPILS

The Federal Government has been urged to extend the school feeding programme to other primary school pupils.
Mrs. Fidelia Abazu, school teacher and health officer, Igwebueze Primary School 1, Ifite Awka, made the call in Awka, saying that some pupils feel unhappy watching only the primary 1-3 being served different kinds of food each day.

VITAMIN D LINKED TO LOWER RISK OF CANCER, NEW STUDY CLAIMS
Higher levels of Vitamin D in the blood may be linked to a lower risk of developing certain cancers, a study in Japanese adults reported Thursday.
“These findings support the hypothesis that Vitamin D has protective effects against cancers at many sites,” researchers reported in a study published in The BMJ medical journal.

REPS OPPOSE AJAOKUTA CONCESSION PLAN, TO AMEND PRIVATISATION LAW

POLICE KILL WANTED PORT HARCOURT KIDNAP KINGPIN, ARREST THREE GANG MEMBERS
The police on Thursday announced that they have killed a notorious Port Harcourt kidnap kingpin who has been on their wanted list.

POLICE WARN OF IMPENDING BOKO HARAM ATTACK IN BORNO

ANTI-GRAZING LAW: BENUE GOVT AUCTIONS CONFISCATED COWS
The Benue Government on Thursday directed its Ministry of Finance to appoint a registered Auctioneer to auction cattle confiscated in violation of the state Anti-Open Grazing Law 2017.

FEMI ADESINA: IT’S STILL AN ALLEGATION THAT IGP DID NOT STAY IN BENUE
Spokesman to the President, Femi Adesina has declared that it is still an allegation that Ibrahim Idris, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), failed to heed President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to relocate to Benue.

$12B TRANS-SAHARAN GAS PROJECT TO MISS 2018 DEADLINE
The $12 billion Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline Project (TSGP), expected to help Nigeria achieve zero gas flaring by 2020, remains an illusion, 17 years after it was conceived.

Blackout looms across the country as huge debts continue to threaten the operations of Nigeria’s power generation companies (GenCos), a new payment schedule published by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, NBET, has shown.

FEDERAL GOVT OFFERS JOBS TO 350 NIGER DELTA EX-MILITANTS
The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd.), said the Federal Government has so far offered employment to 350 Niger Delta ex-agitators who graduated from various tertiary institutions across the world.
He said the 350 graduates were among the about 30,000 ex-agitators sponsored for various studies abroad by the amnesty office.

BUHARI HIKES EXCISE DUTY RATES ON ALCOHOL, TOBACCO
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved an amendment to the excise duty rates for alcoholic beverages and tobacco with effect from Monday, June 4, 2018.
Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, who made this known on Sunday in Abuja, stated that the new excise rates were spread over a three-year period from 2018 to 2020 in order to moderate the impact on prices of the products.

U.S Donates $533M Humanitarian To Africa.

The United States has announced $533 million in humanitarian assistance for African nations facing life-threatening food insecurity and malnutrition.
The US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson announced the grant on Wednesday
