Fela was a great MUSICIAN. Most of the others you mentioned on that list are singers, some have even made clear that they are plain entertainers. Other musicians I would've expected on your list are ASA, and Femi Kuti. Sade Adu and 2Face Idibia are among my favourite singers. |
When in 1953, Ian Fleming created the James Bond character code-named 007, not a few noticed a semblance between the fictional character, and the writer who himself had been a British intelligence officer during World war 2. The nights at the casino, love of golfing, a way with women, these were all part of a lifestyle the writer shared with the character he brought to us. 50 years, 6 actors, and 22 Bond movies later, we've seen a lot change. The missions, the bond girls, the guns, cars, watches, and finally, in the 23rd installation of the franchise, James Bond will be giving up his trademark vodka "Martini, shaken, not stirred", simply asking the bartender for a bottle of Heineken instead. Why?! 45 million reasons I tell ya! MGM got a cheque from the world's number one lager brand which covered a third of all production costs for Skyfall. Despite the barrage of criticisms, including from one of the past bonds, George Lazenby (whom you don't remember playing James Bond anyway), the producers however, believe Commander Bond's choice is what's best for the franchise. Skyfall premieres in Nigeria tomorrow, Friday, 2nd November in various cinemas around the country, with sponsorship from Heineken. Go out, see the movie, let's meet back here for a review. See the Skyfall trailer below to help get your mind ready for Bond, James Bond. [flash=720,600]" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kw1UVovByw?version=3&hl=en_US" type="[/flash]

Yep! It's the truth. Served very cold. |
Ah! I liked his designs O! Up until the moment he started sending male models on the runway in skirts! |
Obasanjo neva old reach to appoint Queen Elizabeth for ím own trust fund?! How much she get sef?! I feel this appointment is an insult to Uncle Sege, and he should not only reject it immediately, but also go ahead to caution the President for congratulating him on such a silly appointment. |
@Ete Flexible It's past 3 pm already. By the way, do you speak for Boko Haram? Personally, I feel any cease-fire Boko Haram announces will be because they are being crushed, and their supply lines being cut. Such a cease-fire will aid them in regrouping and re-arming themselves to continue the carnage. |
Where did you get this from? The document is marked CONFIDENTIAL! |
Hmmm, with all the posts so far, I really doubt that this thread will serve its purpose. |
don Jazzy does it to appear perhaps more influential than D'Banj, but what scares me are those people that buy 150,000 followers when they actually have only 400 real followers, then they collect money from brands to market their products on Twitter. Imagine paying N100,000 a month to someone, thinking that they are going to market your product or service to 150,000 people daily, not knowing you're only reaching their 400 friends. It is 419. |
Well, I've met with the organizer of the South South Music Awards once, that's Mr Andy Bello. He explained to me that the awards are for non-indigenous artists whose music had an appreciable impact on the South-South music scene, and indigenous artists whose music made the most impact within, and outside the South-South region of Nigeria. They are not necessarily attempting to award the best music in Nigeria. They are region-specific. |
The Nigerian government has failed in several angles. Refusal to dredge the Rivers Niger and Benue which would allow all these waters to flow freely, and secondly the imbecilic manner in which Nigerian Public Officers think, and finally, speak in public. We're in very serious trouble. This is just a test. Wait when The mountainous Lake Nyos breaks, that is when millions will die. Our government has been warned that the wall of Lake Nyos in Cameroun are cracking, and when it breaks, BILLIONS OF CUBIC METRES of water will be spilled into Nigeria. I'm sure the government of Cameroun released this dam water to test our preparedness. We have an ignoramus for a President, a dunce for Minister of Information, an embezzler as Minister of Finance, and a thief as Minister of Petroleum...and you know there's more. |
Oh well, I've contacted the organizers of the awards, and their reply was that they intend to reward professionalism, not popularity, and any Journalist or OAP who lacks the understanding of how to apply for a widely publicized industry award is not professional enough. I think I understand their stance, and I believe that trying to prevail on them to break the rules will be tantamount to encouraging corruption of a system that is being set in place to give merit to those who deserve it. |
Twitter has become an important tool for Nigerian entrepreneurs, politicians, actors, and musicians to reach thousands of members of their target audience directly. Amongst those who have maximized the use of this tool are @PastorChrisLive (1,097,964 followers), @DonJazzy (423,710 followers), @GenevieveNnaji1 (204,388 followers), and @ElRufai (112,457 followers). A close look at some other lesser known "celebrities" though begins to unfold a weird pattern of massive following. @IAM_Kcee for example, has 109,645 followers, @SinaRambo (69,939 followers), and even one @AnthoniaOrji (182,601 followers). Forensic scrutiny of these accounts however exposed the trick of buying followers. This leads us to check back on all the other accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers, and we are sorry to have to disappoint all you Davido fans, and all Don Jazzy fans. After digging past a few thousands of their most recent followers, the horde of dummy (computer generated, non-interactive) followers surface. These dummy followers may seem useless to the average "tweep", as they neither read, nor retweet any tweets, but in some way, they do have their advantages. Some brand interested in improving their Social Media outlook like MTN, or PEPSI, for instance, may end up paying millions of Naira to a Nigerian artiste with hundreds of thousands of unsuspected dummy followers. Now, some individuals such as one @OloriSupergal and @AnthoniaOrji (who has actually threatened me for trying to expose her) are obtaining money from the unsuspecting public, by posing as Social Media Marketers after purchasing between 35,000 to 160,000 dummy followers. It's nothing short of fraud. BEWARE! *For clearer view of more Screenshots showing the the computer generated followers, visit: http://thediaryofabadman..com/2012/10/the-hundreds-of-thousands-of-dummies.html

The best time to broadcast a reality show is during the rainy season, when most people prefer to stay at home rather than leave their houses. Also, brands experience a massive drop in their sales figures, especially beverage brands, thus they are more open to promos and sponsorships. If you intend to host the Nigerian franchise of a reality show which was created by someone else, and is currently running in another part of the world, of course, you need permission, and also you will be paying fees. |
Obinoscopy, Thank you very much. I'm already up to the job at hand. Which party? Well, I've just been invited to Ice Prince's birthday party in V.I, but I'm suspecting that boy wants to set me up for all the criticisms I've doled out to him on Twitter. So you can go in my stead. Just tell them you're Bar Baric. LOL. SPEECH: First, I want to thank the Almighty God, for without him, I won't be here today. I want to thank Seun for creating Nairaland, and also Lord Lugard for amalgamating Nigeria. All the hardwork and sleepless nights have finally paid off. After more than 7 years of being on Nairaland, I'm finally a moderator. I want to thank all of you who took time out from your day jobs, and fooling around on your BlackBerrys to vote for me. The God that did it for me will do it for you. One day you too will get here. I want to dedicate this award to all the struggling youths in my village, Warrake, in Owan East Local Government of Edo State. I'm using this medium to let them know that if I can make it, they can too. I had no shoes. I love you all, and by making me moderator, you have made yourselves all moderators, as your collective will shall always be my command...except of course where you're flagrantly flouting Seun's rules. Nairaland Forever! Obrigado!

Thanks to you all for choosing me. Thanks Mukina, I've replied your mail. Ijebabe, it'll be great working with you. |
I grew up thinking every guy at a fashion show was gay. Well, blame that on Hollywood. Models, designers, makeup artists, photograpgers, all gay. That of course was till my "BarBaric STYLE" handler, Bunmi Ologe, and The Borographer went AWOL on me. Thence did my journey begin which to me, was akin to flying outer space. Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2012 has come and gone, and while it lasted, made a believer out of a fashion stereotyper. I come now with the gospel: flipping through pages of "Elle" or "Vogue" does not compare to being right there, au temple de la mode. The flow of the gowns, the scent of the fresh fabric, it can't be captured...it just can't. That said, I promise those of you who missed every single day of the Lagos Fashion Week, the photos you're about to see will never take the place of all you missed, but well, when did beggars start having choices? The exhibition was very colourful, with my favourite stands being the those of Konfidence Fashion ( big brother Confidence. remember?), and the Leather Designers Of Nigeria. The very first collection to light up a spark on the runway came from a name I'd never heard in Nigerian fashion previously, but it was nonetheless, eye-catching: KINABUTI So sitting there all aloof, yet trying real hard to fit in, the collection which called out my indifference was by the Ghanaian, ANITA QUANSAH. This was the real beginning of LFDW2012 for me, and you should see why: It got a tad bit drab after that, and suddenly, Shades Of Blue by MAI ATAFO, followed by "Weddings By MAI" which together just blew me off my seat. As a fact, all I kept thinking as each model hit the runway was "I need money...I need money". Gentlemen and ladies, MAI: The runway had gotten so heated up, and Ituen Basi had no plans of cooling things down. Her colourful sassy pieces: Other designs who made a memorable impression were: ICONIC VANITY JEWEL BY LISA LANDRE DA SILVA AJAYI (LDA) Then there's this man, EMMY COLLINS, creative, unconventional, and bold: ...and finally, the guest designer of the Lagos Fashion Week 2012, none other than the English designer, MATHEW WILLIAMSON. Yet again, that still is not all. There were awards for enterprising youths in the fashion industry, most important of which was the Young Designer Of The Year Award won by Udiminue Joshua of JOSH SAMUELS O yes! That's four million Naira on the cheque, plus other prizes. One thing I can say personally about his pieces is that when I tweeted all the pieces from all the finalists, his got the most retweets and comments. The Model Of The Year Award went to Roots Odufola from Beth Models, taking home a cheque of one million Naira, and various other prizes. The pictures have said as much as they can, in a few more words, I'd say I enjoyed myself in a way I'd not done ever before. The Lagos Fashion week 2012 was an experience I'll cherish for a very long time. My eyes are now open to what Nigerian designers can do, especially with the leather designers. I'm still in awe. If I could mention some minor disappointments, the first bubble to burst would be that of the lead sponsors, MTN. Inadequate publicity of the event meant the first day saw less than 50% butts on seats. They really should have done more. We're aware the sort of PR they unleash on us when they sponsor concerts. Time too was not duly considered while planning the event. A press conference in Lagos at 10 am? On the Island? On a week day? During the event, there were a few prizes given away, and somehow one of the organizers was winning a BlackBerry device. Seriously, we should just grow up! My greatest regret at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week 2012 was the desperate attempt to be "Oyibo". The designs tampered with some African inspiration, however, the organization of the event, the coordination of the runway, and worst of all, the models. The sharp contrast between those attending the event and the models was too extreme. There was too much eagerness to be European. Would it have been so wrong to see such a beautiful African model on the runway of an African Fashion Show? I'd buy the late FELA Anikulapo Kuti's costumes for up to N30,000 today, even though I know they're worth more, that's all I can afford. I'm sure in a few decades they would be selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Femi Kuti too has some very nicely designed costumes. I will pay between N20,000 to N30,000 for his costumes. For FELA or Femi Kuti's saxophone or keyboard, I will pay up to N200,000.

Information from the organizers of the awards indicate that some stations did not submit their entries through the prescribed channels, as is the standard in other parts of the world. They assumed that they would simply be fixed into the list by the organizers "based on who dem be". Unfortunately, it didn't pan out that way. A friend of mine, Tunji, is the only nominee in the 'Business And Finance' category, however, if he's unable to attract the least number of votes required, no award will be given for that category by default. I must say I like the way these awards are being organized without making provisions for the "Nigerian factor". |
I'm a social media marketer, so no doubt, the sites I visit the most would be Twitter and Facebook. I descending order: Twitter.com Facebook.com Google.com TheDiaryOfABadMan..com News.Google.com Yahoo.com Youtube.com Nairaland.com Plus.Google.com PunchNG.com Generally speaking, I'm on Google a lot. |
@dubem3 It's alright. I'll take that as my fault for entering the race late. In my mind though, I'm counting you vote in my favour. Thank you. |
Radio has come a long way from the days of Radio Nigeria and Voice Of Nigeria. Despite the advent of television, the internet, and mobile media, Nigerian radio has not only stood its ground, it seemingly expanding is to a wider audience, and going further to exploit new media in gaining an advantage. Today, the number of radio stations have risen to an estimated 138 in Nigeria, comprising 26 private stations, 27 campus stations, 41, state government stations, and 44 federal government stations. We all know it is neither the simple purchase of radio frequencies, or the erection of masts that has brought about this quantum in Nigerian radio, but the personalities who have kept us company. From the Shy Shy Shyllons, the Kenny & D1s, the Dan Fosters to the Yaws, the Gbemis, and the Toolz, these personalities are the true opium that has kept us hooked to that talking box. Nigeria Radio Awards sets out to show appreciation to the voices, personalities, and groups who strive at raising the bar, and setting new standards in radio through innovation and consistent insistence on improving the medium. Entries for the Nigeria Radio Awards 2012 were received from as far and wide as Freedom Radio Kano, Hot FM Owerri, Search FM Minna, and also, the BBC. It is very shameful that after such a dastardly act carried out unilaterally by the Israeli government against an African country, Africans can come online and be singing praises against such an enemy nation. Some people have become so shortsighted by their religious inclinations, they seem even excited by this unprovoked attack. The African Union is doing nothing because each is satisfied that it wasn't their country attacked. Tomorrow, when Iran will take it upon itself to attack Southern Nigeria, I wonder if we'd be so happy and thrilled. They are using us as a testing ground to train for their war which may never come, and our people are happy. I wish you well Africa, I really wish you well. |
We'll be LIVE on the Channels Television / Y Naija program, Rubbing Minds at 3:00 pm today discussing Governor Fashola's ban / restriction on motorcycles in Lagos State. @CrazyMan Thanks man, I really appreciate, and I'm not going to disappoint your confidence. |
Josh Samuels just won the MTN/ British Council YOUNG DESIGNER OF THE YEAR. The kid has some really amazing designs. Even though I was all for WEIZ DHURM FRANKLYN, but I must say, Josh Samuels really deserved it.

@Shaiguy Wow! All the photos I missed from the runway. These are beautiful. I'm headed to Eko Hotel now. |
@McLatunji Hmmm, you can tell how pleased I was about the arrival of the cowleg. |
More Photos from Felabration 2012.
