Agriculture / Animal Husbandry Vs Crop Cultivation Which Is Better To Start With? by next1(m): 10:19am On May 13, 2016
I currently have a well paying job but I have always had passion for agro and agro-allied business. As a matter of fact , I have done a bit of animal husbandry and cropping before I got my job but it was not anything extensive. Back to now, I want to go back to my passion alongside my 9-5 job and I am torn between starting with either animal husbandry or crop propagation because I have an almost equal passion for both but considering the peculiarity of my paid employment, available funds and management requirement I can only start with one at a time.

I want to call on practitioners in the house that have successfully combined the two branches to kindly advise me based on their own experience (no sales page please). God bless you real good.

Politics / A Jerry Rawlings Solution For Nigeria - By Femi Aribisala by next1(m): 3:06pm On Feb 04, 2015
I have noticed that ideological consistency is a virtue that eludes many of our journalists Nigeria. They blow hot today and wax cold tomorrow. Below is article written by Femi Aribisala in Vanguard of March 25th, 2014. My question is if Femi can recommend the Jerry Rawlings solution to Nigeria's corruption issues why is he castigating General Mohammadu Buhari? The latter part of the article will reveal what kind of confused person Femi Aribisala is and that he cannot to be taken seriously. Read below;

AS the crème de la crème of the Nigerian intelligentsia are currently gathered in Abuja to craft a new roadmap for the country’s political future, there is a very popular option for solving the country’s problem that you can be sure they will not be discussing because many of them are politicians. That option regularly comes up in discussions about how to address the malaise of corruption in Nigeria.

Many Nigerians are convinced that the fail-safe solution to Nigeria’s endemic corruption is “the Jerry Rawlings solution.” As Head-of-State of Ghana, Rawlings gathered together six of Ghana’s (mis)leaders and had them shot publicly by firing-squad. Thus, Farida Waziri, former Chairman of the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) said: “If some 20 high-profile offenders are tried and sentenced to death, this will send shock waves to Nigerians and curb both the impunity and intolerable prevalence of corruption in Nigeria.”
That might not do the trick. 20 misleaders of Nigeria would be much too few. Since there are 36 states in the country, many corrupt misleaders would end up going scot-free. It is a well-worn cliché that what is worth doing is worth doing well. Therefore, there might be need to Nigerianise the Rawlings solution, fully cognizant of the fact that Ghanaians have never won the World Cup in corruption, but Nigeria owns the cup. There are also far more misleading “lootocrats” in Nigeria than the entire population of Ghana, so the Ghanaian example is not a good fit for Nigeria.

Surgical operation: This is a fictitious prescription for Nigeria’s class of political “lootocrats” from a cross-section of Nigerians. It is hereby forwarded to the Chairman of the National Conference for due consideration. The position here is that a large chunk of past and present members of the misleading Nigerian political class, running into several thousands, should be tied up at the stake in Bar Beach, Lagos, and shot one-by-one on public television!

This could be done as a surgical operation within one week. That way, everything would be done and dusted before the distraction of the World Cup. Indeed, it would ensure that we would have a World Cup that would not merely provide another avenue for Nigerian officialdom to go on their usual jamboree whereby billions of naira is pocketed at the expense of procedurally-neglected national footballers.

Better still, it could be done over a six-month period for maximum and long-lasting impact on the Nigerian psyche. Every day, 21 members of the Nigerian “lootocracy” would be trotted out and given a fond farewell at Bar Beach on primetime television. This approach is attractive for a number of reasons. It would generate a lot of money through the selling of local and foreign television rights and adverts. Tickets would also be sold at commercial rates to those interested in watching the exercise live.

Federal character: The names of those affected should not be listed beforehand. That way, a great deal of excitement would be generated daily in anticipation of those whose turn it would be. Of course, this “clean-up” exercise would be done strictly according to the lofty principles of federal character. As a matter of fact, every ethnic nationality in the country would be duly represented, so that there would be no grounds for complaints or even court-cases by any group on grounds of being excluded.

The affected politicians would be allowed to make five-minute statements for the benefit of the nation just before their departure to the above and beyond. An interviewer might ask a question like this: “Your Excellency, Chief, Doctor, Major-General… (it is absolutely important not to forget any of the person’s accolades at this particular juncture) MMD, PSQR, WXYZ, is there anything you would like to tell Nigerians? Any word of wisdom you want to share as to why you are included in this National Merit Award?”

Should the man or woman start cursing and swearing instead, he should not be deterred. He should be granted his fundamental human right to freedom of speech. The only thing is that his outburst must not exceed the statutory five minutes. However, if the misleader is remorseful, and decides to use the opportunity to confess his sins to Nigerians and reveal some of his shenanigans in office, he could be allowed to speak for ten more minutes. If he weeps and pleads for mercy, that would make for great television. He should also be granted ten more minutes of wallowing.

National catharsis

Seeing our erstwhile timber-
and-caliber politicians frothing at the mouth would have a great therapeutic effect on rank-and-file Nigerians. Many suffering from different illnesses and sicknesses would be cured instantaneously. The eyes of many blind Nigerians would be opened, out of the determination not to miss this national spectacle. Those misleaders who agree to give the nation chapter-and-verse information as to where their loot is stashed can be given as much as thirty more minutes to make their confessions, in the interest of national economic recovery.

All the bank accounts of the distinguished members of this “send-off” party should be sequestered and the monies therein put in a special fund. That fund could then be used to build a “National Institute of Political Corruption and the Looting of Public Funds,” which can be affiliated to one of our Ivy League universities; say ABU or OAU. This Institute should be headed by a Ghanaian in the meantime, until we are sure we have completely cleaned Nigeria of these marauding misleaders. Anybody who dares to make a case for clemency for any of them should be automatically included in the list.

In the same manner that we have elections every four years, we can have these Bar Beach “send-off parties” every five or six years. This process would ensure that the fear of Bar Beach would quickly become the beginning of wisdom for our teeming misleaders. In the first place, it would go a long way to decimate the number of prospective politicians. Quite a number of people would come to realise that they would be caught dead if they were to run for public office. When you ask a man if he would like to be the Governor of Kano State and he replies, “Not on your life,” you would immediately know the reason why.

In the second place, it would ensure that Nigerian politicians reach the conclusion that corruption is a short-cut to the mortuary. Corruption would become more deadly than AIDS and cancer. It would be a disincentive for rigging elections. What would be the point if public office only gives you a visa to go to see your ancestors prematurely? Our politicians would prefer to be university lecturers once again. The president of the Senate would be forced to be a barber in his spare time, to make ends meet.

Misleaders’ cemetery

All the affected politicians would be buried in a specially prepared national cemetery, which would quickly become a tourist attraction. The list of those buried there would be a kind of who-is-who in Nigeria of the recent past. Applications should not be entertained from all and sundry for burial at this special cemetery. We don’t want people dying of natural causes to seek the glory and honour belonging only to misguided politicians.

At the gate, we could have a caption which reads something like this: “Here lies some of the greatest political misleaders Nigeria has ever seen. They were all given a send-off at a party organised by the Nigerian people at Bar Beach in 2014. It is a testament to the great impact these men and women had on Nigeria when they were alive that the country has never been the same again since their departure. Good riddance to bad rubbish.”

It should be clear from the fore-going that one of the main tasks in this exercise would be in compiling the list of those to be sent-off at Bar Beach. The other assignment is that of ensuring that some of the politicians on the list do not escape from the country, only to come back at a later date. One way of avoiding this is by ensuring that this plan is kept absolutely secret. No politician must know that it is in the offing. Indeed, no politician or aspiring politician must be allowed to read this proposal. It must only be accessible to “we, the suffering masses of Nigeria.”

We can borrow the mischievous blueprint of the Nigerian Immigration Service. Invite all politicians, past and present, to a grand award ceremony in carefully-selected stadia in the six geo-political zones of the country. If they were to trample themselves to death in their excitement at being included on the list; all the better. It would reduce the possibility for future congestion at Bar Beach.

Once inside the stadia, we would then lock all the doors and install guards specially imported from Ghana to ensure no one escapes. CCTV cameras would also be installed to monitor them. They would be kept there for the entire duration of the exercise. If they like, they can form new political parties while they are there. Or the PDP members can cross-carpet to the APC and vice-versa. That is their business. They can continue their political shenanigans in the after-life.

Postscript: After carefully-studying this proposal, my conclusion is that it would entail too much blood-letting. As a matter of fact, it might create more problems than it solves. Therefore, I have a better suggestion. Let us deport just 20,000 of the most misleading politicians of our recent past and present from Nigeria, with the caveat that they cannot return under any circumstances. Let us send them to Siberia; or to better still to Kutuwenji. The question here is which people in their right minds will grant these riff-raffs from Nigeria political asylum? Which country will welcome this scum of the earth? I honestly don’t know.

Nevertheless, I refuse to allow such imponderables to scuttle my prescription. Rather than the Rawlings option, just gather together 20,000 prominent members of Nigeria’s political “lootocracy” and put them one-by-one in “Ghana must go!”

Politics / 2015 Presidential Election; My Thought by next1(m): 7:15pm On Jan 17, 2015
Lately a lot of messages and call to actions is been circulated on various social media platforms by agents of the biggest political rivals of this era, APC/PDP. Both sides in trying to outdo each other are reeling out very little facts and so much misinformation. A lot of these broadcasts are not just preposterous but absurd or just load of BS. I will have to say here that the worse culprits in this regard are the agents of GEJ/PDP. They have suddenly gone berserk, thrown caution to the wind and all they spread is just hatred and disunity. Initially I ignore these messages and delete them immediately but recently I got so irritated I start to vigorously engage anybody that shared such thought with me. It is so sad that most of these people are enlightened and are expected to be above board in their thought process. More disturbing is that these people, I have discovered in the course of my discussion with them, know very little about the issue at hand but are just been driven by sentiments and little or lack of sense of history. This is why I felt the need to publicly air my view here and to let everyone know where I stand so that these people should please delete my contact from the group when sending the next broadcast that has hateful and divisive content. I am allergic to absurdity. While I grant you the right to campaign for your principal on my space I do not condone when you start spreading religious or tribal sentiment on my page. Lose my contact if your campaign is not issue based. You should know too well that I abhor extremism in any coloration.
I would have pasted the lengthy broadcast I received on WhatsApp here but I believe it is needless because at the rate at which this broadcast goes viral you will soon get it if you don’t have it already. However, I will forward it to anyone that is interested so that you will understand my frustration. The point is the more these agents try to paint GMB black the more vulnerable and lame they make their principal look. The only tool they can use is religion and twisted history to get to the mind of the people knowing fully well that many of us are too lazy to verify the veracity of the claims in these broadcasts. Well some of us cannot be fooled. I was not fooled by the “shoeless story” or the “Adeboye’s endorsement” in 2011 I cannot be fooled now that the facts are everywhere that GEJ has failed. I am one of the people that are not disappointed at GEJ’s dismal performance. We saw it coming because just as it is happening now his 2011 campaign was based on sentiments and tissue of lies.
The particular broadcast that got me really upset is the one that is addressed to Christians on the dangers of voting for GMB. I guess a lot of us know it? My belly turned as I read through the message and by the time I finished reading I felt giddy headed and wanted to puke. It is hogwash. There is a lot of things we need to come to terms with about this coming election and I think the most critical is that it is not about GEJ/GMB. The cause is bigger than these pair, they are just a medium to make or mar this agitation. This is about the great people of this country that has been brainwashed and enslaved by the political class that are ironically elected to serve us. It is about taking back the unalienable right of the people to elect and re-elect their leaders based on track record of performance not some primordial sentiments. This is about sending an unequivocal message to the political class that they will have to earn the right to be re-elected into office. Re-election is no longer a right of any politician performance or not.
The issues in the message that I will want to address are as follows;
1. Boko Haram has killed more Christians in the North than Muslims – This frame of mind always get me gob smacked especially when it is pushed forward by people that should know better. This is because as widely publicized as this assertion is nobody has come out with a concrete statistical data to support it. It is just a flow from a jaundiced mind. I hate to play statistics with human life. Bottom line is innocent human life are lost, it doesn’t matter which religion they belong to. These are Nigerian just like you and I. However, is it logical to think that a war of this magnitude is going on in a predominantly Muslim north and more Christians are killed? I find this very difficult to believe. Also, a lot of mosques have been either burnt down or attacked by insurgents, the most recent is the attack on the Kano central mosque. Can we say Boko Haram is looking for Christians in the mosque during Juma’at prayers? As long as we do not have a statistics to support this assertion it is only hypothesis and cannot be depended upon to form a decision. I guess this is elementary enough for all to see. I will not want to push my research on your faces therefore I will implore us to do a research on this and see how far it is from the truth.

2. Christianity is in mortal danger of extinction – This is also laughable and shows that many of us do not understand how a country works under a democracy. In the message countries like Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Algeria and Turkey that were purported to be once flourishing Christian countries are now Muslim countries because the Christian surrendered to the lure of liberalism. This particular one has the handwriting of Femi Fani Kayode all over it. However, space cannot allow us to go into the history of these countries but please before you spread this message take a look at it and you will realize how twisted this assertion is. This will allow you to compare the circumstance under which these countries metamorphosed into Islamic nations if it is true anyway and if this is applicable to the Nigeria situation. It is a known fact nations evolve over generation but most of the times this are usually for administrative purposes by colonial rulers or expansionists. African has their own religion before the advent of the Abrahamic religions which was introduced for the purpose of dissuading the minds of the slaves of that era from carrying out uprising. Forgiveness and love were the focal points of the early missioners. Another point that we should know of a fact is that you don’t need a Muslim president to change the faith of a country in a presidential system of government. All that is needed is an act of parliament to amend the constitution and it would be done even under a Christian president. My question is how can this been done in a heterogeneous society without putting a gun to our heads during referendum to vote for the change? My people perish because they lack knowledge.

On the flip side, has the propagation of the gospel of Christ taken a boost under GEJ? What is ‘Christlike’ in the manner in which GEJ is running this country? If it is actually true that majority of the people been killed in the north are Christians shouldn’t that be enough motivation for our ‘Christian’ president to pursue the fight with vigor? How come they just realized no mention of Christ or Christianity was made in the 1999 constitution while Sharia and Islam was mentioned more than 100 times? It took 6 long years of GEJ’s administration and 15 years of PDP misrule to discover this misnomer and more so it took a wind of change to wake them up from the 15 years slumber? I am not impressed.

3. Islamization or criminality? – The picture been painted by this message is that the Boko Haram is a political plot to Islamize Nigeria. We can argue back and forth on this one but let us look at it this way, assuming this is political to whose advantage is it? If Buhari is actually behind Boko Haram will this be an advantage for him? With benefit of common sense why will he wage a war against his own people? The wanton destruction taking place in the north is affecting if not shut down the economy of the region that was struggling before now. Buhari is general’s general, a veteran of many wars, well-schooled in the rules of engagement and the last thing he will do is to fight a war that has no basis. Still on politics, will it favour Buhari if election cannot be carried out or inconclusive in about 4 states in his strong hold?
The first place the war on terror in Nigeria would be won is in our minds. We need to see Boko Haram not as Islamist Insurgents but a bunch of crazy serial murderers using Islam to masquerade their nefarious activities. Terrorism is the crime of the 21st century and it is spreading like wild fire all over the world. Like cyber-crimes, armed robbery, drug trafficking, kidnapping and cultism, terrorism is the cool of the 21st century and we need to see it as such. Nigeria government got it wrong from the get go by attaching political undertone to the war on terror and rather than uniting the country against terror like it is currently been done in France and many European countries they use it to push the unity of the country to the brink.

This has shown that the ruling party is not only desperate but they are jittery to death because the handwriting is boldly on the wall that change is coming. Sadly, there are no track record of excellent performance to brag about so like a drowning man they are laying hold on anything and anybody to stay afloat. Fortunately, apart from wondering how Buhari can be painted as a saint in the company of Tinubu and Amaechi , they have not been successful in branding GMB as corrupt. The last time I checked neither of Tinubu nor Amaechi is contesting besides this is a better company when compared to the president’s group. What will you call this team? Abba Moro, the Uba brothers, Tompolo, Ateke Tom, Asari Dokubo, Stella Oduah, Diezeani Madueke, Ayo Fayose, Alamesigha, Iyiola Omisore, Femi Fani Kayode, Buruji Kashamu, Bode George. I can go on and on.

For those that see this as an attempt to subvert the right of the people of the South-South, I really pity you if GEJ is the best you can produce from this region. It is really sad that this son really messed up the chance that region has to positively reverse the long period of neglect you have been subjected to. He didn’t represent you well because the Niger Delta is still neglected and nothing has changed in the 6 years that your son has been president. Like Seun Kuti said it is a shame that Buhari ( a military dictator at a time) is been seen as a better option to GEJ who 4 years ago enjoyed so much goodwill from all over the country not minding his tribe or religion. Recently, one of the sons of the people GMB is accused of executing for drug trafficking said that despite GMB executing his father after so much pleas he will support and vote him in the next election. What else do you want to say about the character of a man? What an irony

My questions to all you GEJites are as follows;

1. What happened to the goodwill GEJ enjoyed in 2011?
2. How come the Yorubas that gave him massive support in 2011 are set to swing the tide against him?
3. Buhari could not campaign in most of the South East and South South in 2011 but he has not only run a successful campaign in these regions but GEJ is finding it tough to campaign in the North?
4. Can you say the South- South has indeed seen the dividend of GEJ’s presidency?
5. Will you still support a second term for GEJ if he was an Hausa man?
6. Do you think 6 years is not enough opportunity for GEJ to prove his mettle?
7. You say Buhari is semi-literate but is GEJ running the country like a PhD holder?
8. You say GMB is too old, has the youthfulness of GEJ rub off on his leadership style? Ronald Reagan became president of USA at 72 and ruled for 8 years, just in case you don’t know.
9. Is Nigeria better now than 6 years ago when GEJ became president?
I agree with a lot of people that feels GMB is not the messiah we need in Nigeria. As a matter of fact it is a shame he is the best option to what we have now not because I doubt his capabilities or honesty but I believe it is a sign of failure on the part of the youth of this country because if not for religious and tribal sentiments we should be able to present a more charismatic, upwardly mobile, savvy, intelligent and youthful president. This is an issue that going forward need to be addressed. We can only grow as a nation if we pull down all the wall of tribal and religious sentiments keeping us from harnessing the strength in our diversity. That been said, corruption remain the bane of the development in Nigeria and it will be a daunting task for any one man to fight it but all we need is a leader that doesn’t tolerate corruption and everybody will be acting right. NAFDAC is a case study in this; it took the determination of just one woman to damn the consequences to fight the war against counterfeiting of drugs despite that her tribe men and women are the most culprits, to bring sanity to that sector.
The sin of GEJ is that he allowed unbridled corruption under his administration. Corrupt officers are not tried but shielded, charges were dropped on those on trial, and he granted state pardons for those in jail. It was just business as usual under his tenure. Though no corrupt charges have been pinned on him directly yet he is culpable in the entire malfeasance going on in his government.
I will not totally blame GEJ for the rise in terror activities or the inability to nip the scourge in the bud. Like I said terrorism is a global scourge and it requires global collaborations to wage the war on terror successfully. However, the failure to achieve this goal can be traced to overwhelming corruption in the government. The war would be perfectly prosecuted only if corruption is out of the way. GMB is expected to stop this ugly trend of executive aiding and abetting of corruption. This is all he needs to do and all other thing will fall into place.
Conclusively, never in recent history of Nigeria, has there been a need for a change than now. We need to send a strong message to the political class that they will only rise to office on the crest of excellent performance. The sad trend of second term with or without performance is over. It must be earned. God bless Nigeria. #onchangewestand #wethepeople #powerbacktothepeople

@Ranoscky , if you have read my post properly you'll notice that I am not against this scenario completely. All I said is that you need a tough skin to pull through. To your question, yes it has happened before but it is more common to find a best friend getting down with his buddie's wife than best friends marrying their friends' widow. It's just odd
Family / Re: Would You Marry Your Best Friend's Widow? by next1(m): 9:10am On May 28, 2010
@madoba I agree with you to the extent that there is nothing with marrying your late friend's widow but I will have to add that it's takes a very strong character to pull this stunt through and the backlash of sentiments and emotions will not get to you. We are NIGERIANS. We think act, think and live 9ja so let's us drop this "it's only in Nigeria that people think like this , " cos that's who we are. We think about how our actions affects other people. Do not forget that there are children involved and the late guy also has family left behind. In as much as both of you can ward off the intruders what of the kids? how will they handle the whispers from their uncles and aunts ? The guy may have to contend with violent reactions from the late guy's kid.Put yourself in the place of the sibling of the late guy, how will you handle the fact that your brother is in a cold grave and HIS BEST FRIEND is getting with HIS WIFE?!!!
Now before you venture into such a journey you have to have it all figured out and it has to be for the very right reasons. I don't think I can handle it.

Health / Re: Acid Rain Forecast In Parts Of Nigeria by next1(m): 7:54am On Mar 22, 2010
mayor007:

Acid rain has been falling for ages now. Wonder why itz just getting frontpage attention in Nigeria. It is a form of rain that is unusually acidic and has harmful effects on plants and aquatic animals. Caused by emissions of compounds of ammonium, carbon, nitrogen and sulphur. Caused naturally by the splitting of nitrogen compounds by the energy produced by the lightening strikes or the release of sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere by volcanic eruptions. WE ARE IN THE END TIME.

correct analysis.

Acid rain is rain or any other form of precipitation that is unusually acidic, i.e. elevated levels of hydrogen ions (low pH). It can have harmful effects on plants, aquatic animals, and infrastructure through the process of wet deposition. Acid rain is caused by emissions of compounds of ammonium, carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur  which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. Governments have made efforts since the 1970s to reduce the production of sulfuric oxides into the Earth's atmosphere with positive results. However, it can also be caused naturally by the splitting of nitrogen compounds by the energy produced by lightning  strikes, or the release of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere by volcano eruptions.

HOWEVER,

Scientists have suggested direct links to human health.  Fine particles, a large fraction of which are formed from the same gases as acid rain (sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide), have been shown to cause illness and premature deaths such as cancer and other diseases. Meanwhile this doesn't mean the rain will burn like raw acid but continuous long term exposure can cause some health challenges.

I don't get what the objective of NL moderators is. While they withdraw your posting right when you post something productive they allow childish "tribe war" go on in the forum. This should not be allow to go on and I believe this one of the rules for using the forum, so why are they looking the other way. We shouldn't take anything to chance as this can snowball into a chaos of mega proportion.
My suggestion is that NL should not allow anything post attacking any tribe sail through. For those tribal warlords you should be ashamed of yourself. There is only two tribes in the world, the good guys and the bad one and every tribe has it own fair share of each. prove me wrong.
Sports / Re: African Nations Cup: Egypt Vs Nigeria - (3-1) by next1(m): 8:35pm On Jan 12, 2010
Has anyone check the list of the best 100 players in the world? No Nigerian player appear on this list and I stand corrected none will appear on the first 200. With this kind of scenario what in hell do we expect the coach to do. Truth is we don't just have the materials to work with.
We need a coach that can build a team from the scratch and bring out the best in the players and discards these legion of spent force we parade as foreign based professional. I wanna puke!!! Until we make concerted effort to look in wards and retrace our steps to raise hungry players who exhibit raw talent and skill, we'll just continue to wither. My prediction is this AFCON will be a disaster so that NFF, super eagles, technical crew etc can get the boot. GBAM

thanks for your write ups. Please can you give a step-by-step approach in sealing a cargo deal. That is as a facilitator or agent what are the things you ask for when trying to link a buyer to a seller and vice versa and what are the requirement to becoming a facilitator or agents.

Imagine the number of jobs some of these bankers can create if they can channel all the effort they employ in raising deposits for the banks to building their own businesses. My point is if I can work so hard for someone else, why can't I work for myself because at the end of the day nobody can pay you your real worth. Imagine all you can be paid monthly for raising 200 Mill is 160k. shocked My advice to the poster is try all you can't to save your job but develop a plan B. If you loose you job you can fall back on your plan B. Best of luck

hi,
Cattle business is very lucrative. If you are in Lagos you can make up to 20% monthly. It is not seasonal though price may vary from time to time. Cows are very useful in diverse ways apart from being a primary source of protein. All the extracts are useful. You can up your profit by butchering ie slaughtering and dressing the cows for the market. This can double your margin.
