My experience when I visited Lagos. Tried crossing at volts while going to Alaba international. Okada plying one way almost killed me because I was focused on the right traffic and the lady on his bike rained insults on me that day. I come believe say some seemingly normal people are loco personified in Lagos.

Politics / Re: FEC Approves N27.5tn For 2024 Budget by nifton(m): 5:28pm On Nov 28, 2023
IbeOkehie:
This Budget is $27 billion and it includes the usual massive borrowing and deficit that's likely to be financed by printing money. Well over 70%, probably over 90%, will go to paying INTEREST on the national debt.

Nigeria is bankrupt and over 90% of the people are mired in poverty.

Budget means nothing until the Federal Government tackles the basic structural dislocations in the economy

1) Stop printing money and float the naira. Nigeria may have to look into adopting some sort of currency with a capped or tight supply.

2) Adopt property rights for citizens and stringently protect those rights.

Those two are the most important. They can be done TODAY. Others are

3) Make it illegal for the Federal Government to own any economic property, resource or factor of production. This includes airports and sea ports. Also make it illegal for ANY government to tax ownership of real property by anyone except GOVERNMENT WORKERS. That means only government workers and elected officials and appointees should pay property taxes and it should include tax on cars and other significant property.

In short complete privatization and deregulation of the economy.

4) Make it illegal for the Federal Government to set or subsidize prices for ANYTHING including labour

5) Remove all bans and prohibitions on imports and exports of legal products.

6) Abolish all income taxes on private workers and adopt a sales or VAT based revenue formula.

7) Adopt deep and radical tribal, state or regional autonomy.

8 ) Every Nigerian male and maybe female MUST have military training and be allowed to own guns.

9) Make it illegal for any Nigerian government official at any level to own any property, money or ANYTHING outside Nigeria, directly or indirectly.

The above measures are the ONLY WAY Nigeria will ever become a developed country. NOTHING ELSE will work. The first two are non-negotiable.

So for now Nigeria is just wasting time. Any government that refuses to do the above will achieve NOTHING. The little prosperity enjoyed by Nigeria from 2001 to 2013 was because the Federal Government was doing SOME of the things enumerated above, especially privatization and deregulation.

Remember I'm the OFFICIAL and Federal Government licensed supplier of Good Luck at subsidized prices.

Good Luck to Nigerians!
Senior Man, as always; Good luck to Nigerians!!!

I live in the USA and ALL my siblings and mother too. I live a very good life. This is my real name, I'm not hiding. Please give us the details about how terrible you think the USA is, because apparently it hasn't happened to me. I've visited Europe....France, Italy, UK...several times and I strongly prefer the USA.

I already discussed this on another thread. Go and check the immigration flows. The data is online. Many more Europeans migrate to the USA than USA persons migrate to Europe. In fact I can honestly say I've not met a single USA person that permanently migrated and changed to European citizenship or has told me they have a relative that has done so. But I've met MANY Europeans migrating to USA and have gone through immigration process for CITIZENSHIP...from Sweden, Ireland, Poland, UK, France, Hungary. I mean young people in their 20s and 30s.

Even among Nigerian, African and Asian migrants who are in Europe, check them well and you will find their ultimate destination is always USA or our mother country and 51st state, the UK. I know MANY Nigerians/Africans who started out in Europe and came to the USA. I know only maybe 3 Nigerians/Africans who have migrated from USA to Europe. In all this I'm not counting the UK.

Migration flows are the FINAL ANSWER to any question about which is better, though I think the difference in living standards between say France and USA is just a semantic thing, like saying Nigeria is better than Senegal or Cameroun.

The things I saw in business in Nigeria. I learned a lot. Little and large unbelievable legalities. I've written repeatedly that most Nigerians know very little about their country.

Take this small thing. Do you know it's ILLEGAL to export granite from Nigeria? If that doesn't shock you, the REASON should. Granite export was banned because it's a key component for building roads.

The government said they need all of the abundant granite available in Nigeria because they were going to need it to build roads. I believe this was during Gowon or Murtala regime. grin Don't you just looooove Nigerian roads that have been built with our granite? LOL!!!

Let me advise Nigerians again to go read the Atlantic Magazine article The Coming Anarchy.

Nigeria is an exercise in futility. And we know who bears the most responsibility for making it into the Zoo that it has become. What a pity.

Good Luck to Nigerians!

Hello sir, I just like how you spit facts backed by evidence about Nigeria back to back and at the end, you wish Nigerians luck. grin cheesy grin

Yeah you're correct. Thankfully it's not a geography exam I for fail. grin

But truth is, in USA driving from one part of the same state to the other part and back can be as if you're driving from lagos to sokoto.

Some people even drive more than 50 miles to and from work daily. Factnis that when it comes to road distances their scale is a lot different from ours.

I concurred to virtually all the points you made in that your post I quoted except the line highlighted. Yes there roads are good hence cars don't wear out easily.

50 miles is approximately 80km and some drive same distance here daily for work. Moreover, they have various alternative means of transport, so you don't have to drive often.

Now, on road distance scale I guess the only difference is that we use km while they use mile.

Unless you're using the Nigerian drivers maintenance mentality or our bad roads as context, in oyibo land they are currently using the 2022 camry as taxis and they will clock over 100,000 miles in under 3 years while still looking and performing good enough to be shipped off and sold to us down here as direct clean
Remember a regular state in the USA is usually bigger than the whole of Nigeria and people drive across various state lines on a single trip with their vehicles to and fro.

Please don't use Nigerian situation to judge the durability of vehicles, it doesn't reflect the real world usability of those cars.

I thought only Alaska is bigger than Nigeria. A regular US state cannot be bigger than Nigeria.

I made a statement of fact that Abuja drivers have been winning Highest Earner Award on Bolt. So if Abuja drivers can't make as much as Lagos drivers then I am just curiously asking how it is possible for an Abuja driver to be the highest earner in Bolt End of the year Awards.
U can help me with this riddle.
Last year, winners emerged from Benin also. Except u want to say it's scam, but I saw an Abuja drivers app and the guy was doing 800k-1m monthly Gross as at 2021 after covid.
Highest earning in Abuja is what Abuja can win, but if you say highest national earning, Abj can never do that.

Again, bolt will also like a spread so it will look attractive in other cities, that's business strategy. Then imagine drivers from Benin winning national best, how does it look?

800k per month on the App not feasible here in Abj at all, no argue that one.

You know what, I challenge you to come and drive for one month here in Abuja so we see real time results, and not theoretical numbers.
I don't like going back and forth.

I've drove here for some years, I know what's obtainable on the road.

How Abuja drivers dey take win National Highest Earning Drivers Award?
Hey bro, I did not dispute your dashboard. Just told him not to be wooed by it. Abuja drivers can never compare with Lagos drivers it's a no brainers. Pricing varies in both cities and time in traffic is stagnant here. I've never seen a 50K dashboard from an Abj driver. So my advice is for him not to compare and start chasing shadows because the ending will be premium disappointment.
