Relationship between TP and APL On a serious note, just thank the person for reaching out to you yesterday and you'd like to ask if there's anything he would like you to know regarding the call from yesterday. Shikena Enrypech: Any tip on what I should ask?
Pleaseeee |

Remain calm, I had the same issue because my network went off while taking the test. I sent them a mail politely requesting for another opportunity and they got back within 24 hours. My own five days had even elapsed. So, don't panic.
In addition, you can't retake the personality test if you had already completed it. |

I do hope your information is credible. Clifwoods: Hi everyone, expect APL from 6 to 14 August. NNPC will send success mail and SMS. Unsuccessful candidates will not be contacted. |

Thank you boss Jarus. Much appreciated Jarus: Get work (NNPC) experience before going for masters. But masters is now very important, especially for those eyeing international job market.
Most international jobs (OPEC, World Bank, AfDB, OFID, IMF etc) these days require minimum of Masters for experienced hires. . |

Okay, I will consider this option. Thank you so much. geektrovert: In 2019, you can get a funded MSc with the right information and patience.
If I were in your shoes, after resuming for NNPC (based on your assumption), I will wait for a year or two, then discuss with my line manager about taking a study leave. Then I will go to Canada for my MSc. |

Thank you so much. BenFlash: Truth is, as much having a masters gives you a miniscule advantage over non-masters holder, based on my recruiting experience, what recruiters really look out for is your work experience and what you can bring to the table. If we restrict it to just GT roles with no much experience, I can beat my chest that a GT with just B.Sc or B.Tech. but with impressive past projects under his belt will most certainly be favoured over a Masters holder with little or no project. In fact, in most roles, professional certification takes precedence over masters.
Why You may ask? It is because M.Sc. is generally academic, while professional certifications have been designed to address skill gaps in specific career paths. |

Okay bro. Thank you so much for breaking it down this way. I look forward to connecting with you. mosgoon: You made the decision a bit easier by saying your masters is unfunded. Trust me, you do not want to go for an unfunded masters 90% of the time.
Now considering that, the next thing you need to do is evaluate the risks involved. Perform a risk-benefit analysis. I do that everytime, it's the most logical and profitable way to go about things. i even did it with the false allegations made here against me when i was thinking of leaving the thread. Now think like this
What do i stand to lose/gain if i go for an unfunded masters while forfeiting an NNPC offer : Pros : Potential to earn more after completion, once in a lifetime opportunity if the school is MIT-Caltech-Stanford-ETH-UCB etc, Being more competitive after school due to added knowledge
Cons: Cost of study, Possible debt, Opportunity cost due to wasted experience that could have been gotten at NNPC, missing hands on experience, missing networking opportunities, missing an early start to climb the corporate ladder if you are not keen on academics, missing career advancement opportunities offered by big companies like NNPC/Shell/Exxon etc which may rival or even better the current masters opportunity: MBA/MS-Executive programs -Certifications, Getting a competitive edge in workforce.
You have other personal pros and cons, adding everything up and weighing the pros and cons, map out a cost/benefit graph and decide without bias. It almost always works out better for you in the end
Best of Luck!
Would connect later with you as promised when this is all done. |

Thank you and thanks to everyone who gave an advice. You talked about where I want to be in the next five years. Could you please expatiate? I already made a wrong choice 7 months ago (4 weeks after my NYSC) when I chose a sales job paying relatively high at the expense of knowledge (I didn't seek advice). I regret that choice because it mentally and physically drained me but I feel the circumstances may be different in that NNPC offers a good opportunity for growth and development aside from the juicy benefits. I'd appreciate if you can help me clearly define the choices and the impacts it might have based on your own experiences. Thank you. ogiby86: Trust me right now it's a personal choice. You can choose to go for a masters or Take NNPC Jobs...at the end of the day it all boils down to what you want in Life as an individual. Some will settle for Masters and some for NNPC job. So Choose your path wisely. NO one can make that choice for you. You have to ask yourself what's your sole objective in Life and where you want to be in the next 5 or 10 years. You will be able to make a clear decision if you ask and answer that question yourself. Me personally I have my masters & I chose to go for it even when I had offers from places like PWC, Globacom and SHELL and am presently working. It's a Personal decision though. So trust me the decision is yours to make. Choose your path wisely that's all I've got to say. Just ask yourself in 5 or 10 years where do I want to be? That's all.Thank you. |

Good morning everyone. Please, I need your advice on this.
Which one would you pick: 1. Masters Degree in Canada (Not Scholarship) 2. NNPC Graduate Trainee (If successful)
Your advice and reasons will be highly appreciated.

The perceived worshipping started when I mentioned that I'd like mosgoon and Oga Jarus to be my mentors. I am not going to wade into any sort of conspiracy on dual identity, however, if you feel people acknowledging other people's value and worth and wanting to LEARN from them is WORSHIPING them, I'm really sorry to tell you that such thought process can't take you far in life.
No man is an island. Be humble, it doesn't cost you anything but your ego.
I hope to see you all at the towers, of course as colleagues.
God bless us. |

Lol, things would be better then. There will be more jobs than graduates and also thousands of career centers (including one which I will own) all across the country so no one will be feeling tensed and running to nairaland about getting NNPC job. Recruitment would have taken another shape as well with artificial intelligence helping the process become 100x faster. We'd make sure we don't fail the younger generations like these older ones have done. dave06: Please y'all should stop filling up this thread with unnecessary posts.
People from the year 2030 would come to read this. Wonder what they'd come n find here. |
