Hello bro, please where did you get your statistics for the number of employed and unemployed people? If it's from the NBS, I'll advise you disregard most of their statistics because they are very inaccurate. Twhizzy2: Statistically, as at Q3, 2018, number of persons in the labour force is 90.5m. Unemployed (working less than 20hours a week) is 20.9m Underemployed is 18.21m Employed is 51.3m
From the data above, it's statistically possible.
Considering the fact that the "employed" also applied.
NB: I'm not confirming that 25.6 applied to NNPC. |

Spot on sir. Jarus: Your rephrased questions send a different message, which is positive. Not directly asking what the job entails, which is what some of us think is not right. |

Our labour law, just like many of our laws are outdated and ambiguous. There are labour and employment laws in the US and Europe that guide against such practices. As a matter of fact, HR audit is a key activity that must be carried out by organizations to ensure they are complying with the laws of the land in terms of recruitment and selection. In Nigeria, it's a case of "anything goes". I pray we get there some day. Amen BenFlash: I think 'irritated' is a more befitting description, however showing it to the candidate right there in the panel room is unprofessional IMHO and this act supports my earlier submission that he prolly has his candidate, hence the overt emotion to sway the decision of the other panelists. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by NigelCundy: 2:32pm On Aug 25, 2019 |
The question can be rephrased by saying "Asides from the general description of this role, what are the day to day activities expected of me" or "what does an average day on the job look like"? I say this with all due respect: Your second paragraph emphasizes the point I made about many panels not being trained to conduct interviews because they think "it is just an interview". With my knowledge of the HR industry both home and abroad, I can tell you that a candidate who asks any of the questions I posted above shows a zeal towards the job rather than someone who just wants to get a job, and this holds for both EH and GT positions. This is simply because organizational environnements differ based on different factors. So, there may be some untold activities that an individual ought to perform daily on the job. Eg Meeting with the COO, or checking in with your supervisor. Dear All, I will once again reiterate my first point that it is not out of place to ask about some of the day to day activities you are expected to perform in a role. Whether you are changing industry or coming in as a graduate. talk2dace: Bros, pls what other way can the OP's question be paraphrased??
Secondly, as I have taken part in several recruitment panels, the impression I get with this question is that you are a person that doesn't pay attention to detail ESPECIALLY concerning a job you long to take either due to passion or survival. What happened to last minute research a day b4 the interview?
I beg do not mislead younger interviewees. What happens to "1st impression matters"?
My candid opinion.
Ndewo! |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by NigelCundy: 9:45pm On Aug 24, 2019 |
You made an awesome submission boss. However, I think it doesn't warrant the interviewers to be upset. As the OP stated that they did not previously inform them about the JD prior to the interview. Also, even if they had given the description and responsibilities to be performed by a candidate, it is not out of place for a candidate to ask what the day to day responsibilities of the job is because it gives the candidate a better perspective of what he can expect in the role and it also allows them weigh their strengths against what a regular day on the job looks like. I am of the opinion that many Nigerians who make up interview panels are not trained for it, that is the reason many of them lack judgment and allow bias in their selection. OP, you weren't completely wrong. I'd advise that you compose the question in a different manner when next you're faced with such a situation. Good luck. Thank you oga Jarus. Jarus: Unfortunately, if I were on the panel, I would also be upset. However we look at it, it is not a good decision to ask about what the job you are interviewing for, entails.
It's a fundamental error and it will take very strong performance during the course of the main interview (ie your earlier response to technical questions) for the error to be overlooked.
The interviewer doesn't have to have another candidate to be turned off by that question. |

On the issue of connection:
I had my interview on the 9th of July with the 7am batch. When my name got called along with others at the amphitheater, just two of us were present out of ten at the time, so we got to the interview floor and waited for the interviewers. We waited for about an hour and 20 minutes before they began strolling in.
While myself and the other guy present were waiting, the usher (South Southerner), later joined by two other young wealthy-looking ladies were chatting about different issues.
One of the ladies (South Westerner) who I later understood served at the corporation in 2017/18 and got retained after her service, lamented about how her mother could not secure a job for her younger sister in NCC because of the extremely long legs and huge amount of money needed to get a job there. It was while she was lamenting that one of the young ladies reminded her of how she also got into NNPC, so she should just be grateful.
You may be surprised about how they weren't bothered by the fact that we didn't sit so far away from them and we could hear their conversation, well I was too. As a matter of fact, they told us to pray before the interview and on our way out.
Nigeria, I Stan!! |

Favors me? How? You obviously haven't been paying attention. Whenever you're less busy and I say this without any disrespect, you could take time to go through my comments on this thread and see what I have always aligned my thoughts with. Bros, if it makes you feel any better, I'd tell you that I don't even think I've got any shot at it and I am not even going to get a dime because I didn't put down my account details. Once again you have proven to be a typical Nigerian who will cheery pick what suits their agendas without reason, logic or fact. Black11: Bless you too You are also a cherry picker, the ABT might not be true but it makes a whole lot of sense...since you aren't sure it favors you, you've decided to call it senseless. People were paid recently, you dont think the topic of discussion here would be ABT?
PS: I think you take this thread too too serious, take a chill pill. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by NigelCundy: 10:41am On Aug 22, 2019 |
It is quite funny that you only emphasized the message I was trying to pass across albeit in a bid to shut me down. You have perfectly made a case for Nigerians cherry picking what adds to their pleasure at the expense of what is true. The main point of my post was to admonish us to leave an argument that doesn't make any sense and instead engage in discussions that will be of VALUE to members and visitors of this forum. God bless you and yours. Black11: Do more you say, really? What really do you want us to discuss rn on this thread, obviously mode of payment is an elephant in the room and we go talk, propound, argue till the elephants leaves the room. Please which of the credible sources are you referring to, that we should undoubtedly believe? If you are depressed better quit the thread, nobody send you. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Apply For 2019 NNPC Graduate Trainee And Experience Hire by NigelCundy: 2:28am On Aug 22, 2019 |
Wow, to say I am shocked and bewildered at the level of commitment many have devoted to arguing about TP and APL despite various credible persons telling us that they are unrelated would be a great understatement. This shows how much we as Nigerians love cherry picking things that please us, irrespective of how reasonable or logical it sounds but as long as it satisfies our selfish and innate self-centered nature. This thread perfectly represents how we engage ourselves on issues that are insignificant at the expense of things that will bring us together and help us grow. The country is deeply plagued with social issues that could consume us or our families in an instant but what do we care? We go dey alright last last.
I am angry, disappointed, dissatisfied, and depressed. I am literally shedding tears because I know we all could do better but we are not doing so. I don't know about you but I won't be proud of returning to this thread in the future seeing how much of my time and knowledge I have wasted on things that will neither add to nor take anything from my life.
Right now I don't care if NNPC employs me or not, I just want a situation where we all are assured of successful lives and careers regardless of where or whom we choose to serve.
We have the capacity to make things better. Let's do it. |

Hi Funmi, but give us small clues about what state you are from na. Is it one of the O states, and does it end with N? You will still remain anon. fumfum23: I posted this earlier. I had to edit because I realised I wasn't fully anon on my profile and I'm trying to protect my privacy. I hope my profile photo has deleted o. LMAO.
Here's what I wrote earlier.
"Alright. Lemme talk my own.
Nothing significant that has not been heard already.
I spoke to someone (one of my rich toasters huhu) who USED TO work with NNPC he rose through the ranks before leaving for a private oil company.
Same information. He said he spoke to someone who WORKS IN THE GMDs office (high up) about me (I went for the interview) the guy said its ABOVE HIM. I only called him to confirm if my name was on the list but he said he can't see anything it's very confidential. He said I should pray because my state is competitive. Imagine someone working in the GMDs office saying its above him.
Other things he said: - It's apparently 80% merit 20% politics. - He spoke to the guy after the Salah break and he told him to expect the letter end of this month. - They're taking people more from "technical" roles. I'm not sure what that really means. I studied Social Science so I'm not among. - I didn't ask about TF and APL because he won't know and I'll just look stupid asking about una nairaland theories.
It's nothing I haven't heard here a thousand times. Please don't ask for my state o. Ya girl is trying to stay anon.
Disclaimer: THIS PERSON IS NOT CURRENTLY WORKING WITH NNPC. He's an old head relying on others for information to". |

With the brains we've got here, if 4 or 5 GT and EH could come together to critically look at many of the social problems we have in Nigeria and brainstorm effective strategies to solving any of the problems for a fee, we could be looking at a multi-million dollar company in a few years.
