Hello guys,

Does any of you have any idea how much it could cost to run an MSc program in say Pharmaceutical field in the US? I just need a range of amount to save for.

Thanks.

The cost of attendance is still contingent to the school you apply to.
But just a range should be between 30-40k USD. Remember the clause, this isn't fixed.

Please guys, I got admission into Texas A&M commerce for masters in Business Analytics Spring 2022. My COA is $27K, and the scholarship I applied to is set for Fall 2022. I want to ask if no scholarship on i20 can have any effect on visa interview. Does funding have anything to do with granting my visa. Please help

How do you mean by the scholarship you applied for is for fall if your resumption is for spring?
However, funding isn't the only determinant in getting your visa, while it plays a major role. It's not absolute. Read up previous pages, it will do you alot of good.

As long as your uncle is not bothering you, your focus should be PhD abroad. That will automatically change your life. Dedicate one full year to this goal.

Renting an apartment now might take a huge chunk of your savings, having a lady shouldn't be a priority for you at this time, you won't even be happy in a relationship whereby you're still etching through life.
As a man your savings are very important due to emergencies which can come at anytime.

All the best as you make a decision.

Hello everyone, please I need your guide and advice on how to present to the VO on my next interview for spring 2022 which I deferred to after getting denied for fall 2021.
I’m a married man and my Dad is going to be the sponsor as I’d be using a statement in his name . My estimated COA for 12 months is $42k and my family funding is $50k.
But then I got a student loan of $25k also from Mpower. But it’s not stated in my I-20 as my school said they don’t accept loan to process I-20. Therefore I’m so confused on how to relate it to the VO that I also hv a student loan. I don’t want to jeopardize my next interview. Kindly help with advice on how to go about it . Thanks

If your family funding is 50k , why then did you seek a loan? 50k already surpasses the estimated COA.

You should first answer, why you decided on a loan in the first instance.

Thank you so much for your response
NB:The joint sponsorship between i and my hubby is in my savings account so therefore I will be going with my personal SOA.(I’m C.O.O of a company)
Please is it fine that way ?
I don’t have a joint bank account with my hubby and he can’t sponsor me single handedly .
Thank you

It's alright. As long as the account has the required funds.

Please my sister has been to the US twice on visiting visa and returned. Now she just finished her waec and has good grades last year. She intends to study medicine at Bowen university but we also suggest trying F1 visa for her for schools offering medicine in united States, can anyone help with schools that offer medicine for undergraduate. What is her chance of securing the F1 visa. Please advice. She is just 17 years old now.

Her chance of securing F1 visa is contingent on the quality of her application - the school she gains admission in , proofs of funds, and how she's able to decrypt all these info when in front of the VO.

Though I would have adviced she went for nursing. But then let her try for the F1.

If she had good grades as you said, let her take sat

.Status: Visa Denied
Location: Abuja.
Teaching Assistant with Tuition waiver and stipend.
Deficit: 9k.

People of God, I didn't want to post anything about this very weird experience of mine initially but I thought Bleep it, just share it with these people, they've been good to you. They can learn ( or unlearn as the case may be). So here goes the event:

The VO: Next
Me: I walked up to him. He even greeted me first and I responded appropriately.
VO: Please pass your documents and passport
(I forwarded them to him)
VO: He starts typing. He typed and typed and typed and typed.
Me: I waited patiently initially but then after 30 seconds of typing without any verbal interaction I started some shifting movements to get his attention.
VO: So I can see here you have a graduate assistantship award.
Me: Yes, but it's actually a Teaching Assistantship that comes with... (VO cuts me here)
VO: It's OK and continues typing.
Me: At this point I was getting worried. In my mind I was begging him : please ask me something, anything.. Pleaseeee. I have waited 3 months to secure this date.. Please look at meeeeee. (Crying inside)
VO: (Coughs) Unfortunately at this time you're not eligible for a visa but you may apply at a later date. ( passes the dreaded blue paper)

People of God, I was stunned. Like am I dreaming? What just happened. All my mock interview preparations and sleepless nights wasted.

Let me give you all the background. My school resumed classes for fall on August 23. I told the school I couldn't secure a date o, that I want to defer to January 2022. The school say I should calm down, they will allow all international students to resume late until September 20. As a proof of that extension, the school issued me a new i20 with this new information written in all CAPS in the remark section of the i20: "WE WILL ALLOW THIS STUDENT RESUME LATE UP TO SEPTEMBER 20" .
In addition, they also issued me a letter to present at the embassy and at point of entry into the United States.
But as you can all see, I didn't say pim at the embassy today. I have not fully comprehended this experience.

Moral lesson: No matter how qualified you think you are or how packaged your documents are or how sharpened your tongue is, pray for good luck. I was very very unlucky today but I still thank God.

I give thanks to God for the success of my Interview
My visa was approved on Tues, 7th Sept, 2021 for FALL SESSION. Yes, FALL SESSION.

I learnt a lot from this platform regarding my preparation and my conscience will not let me rest till I post my success story for others to learn from too. I thank everyone here, God bless you for the helpful tips, and by the Grace of The Almighty God, every other person here will testify too. Be relentless, pursue it like your life depends on it, above all, Gods Grace is supreme over all we do.

SO my school, Morgan State University resumed since the 23rd of Aug, with faith, I registered for classes (I didn't make payment though because the school gives so time before payment) and resumed classes online. I made my department aware of my delayed interview and pleaded with them to write an extension letter for me to take along to my interview. My department did, and sent me the letter.

Here's how my interview went: (a black male in his early 40s interviewed me)

FALL 2021
NO FUNDING

VO: Hello good morning
Me: (with a smile) Hello, good morning sir, how are you doing today (be as friendly as possible in your greeting, it will help in reducing the anxiety in you)

VO: Pass your documents
Me: (I gave him passport first, then passed my I-20, extension letter, and DS-160)

VO: (as he was collecting the documents) SO why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going there to study. I will be studying my Masters in Public Health at Morgan State University, which is located at Baltimore, Maryland.

VO: I can see from your I-20 that school has resumed
Me: Yes, we resumed two weeks ago, 23rd of Aug. However, i have an extension letter from the school which i have passed to you. I have also begun classes online and I have been actively involved in all class activities. I have also been in frequent communication with the course instructors and they are all aware of my travel delay, i can also show you our conversations (i already printed the email communication between me and my lecturers incase he sked, but he didn't )

VO: So why MSU?
Me: I had the option of 3 schools, New York University, North Carolina University, and Morgan State University. However, my decision to settle with MSU was based on their syllabus. I compared the syllabus of the 3 schools ad I discovered that for NYU and NCU, the ir syllabus is constructed in such a way that at the beginning of the program, the students go right into their areas of specialization, but for MSU, their approach is more holistic and comprehensive. At the beginning of the program, the students do all courses in the 5 core areas on public health, and at second semester, they specialize. I wanted something as comprehensive as that

VO: What will this course do for you?
Me: In the short run, on my return to Nigeria, I will be reabsorbed into my current place of work. I currently work as an assistant health administrator at XYZ hospital, and the management is aware of my plans. They have also agreed to grant me a 2 years study leave. However, in the long run, i have passionately followed the work of several NGOs her in Nigeria. They are doing a great work in the Health Sector her and I have always wanted to be a part of them. The likes of UN, WHO, APIN, E-Health Africa, and many others. I believe that on my return, the certificate and knowledge i would have acquired will give me a leverage and make me more marketable.

VO: I can see you did Geography, so why Public Health
Me: Yes, but my specialization was in Medical Geography

VO: So is Medical Geography same as Public Health?
Me: Yes, it is all about Public Health nd Epidemiology
(at this point, he typed, and I guess to confirm what Medical Geography is on google. He then looked at me and said okay good)
(P.S: if your first degree is not related to what you are going to study now, or the work you are currently doing, look for a way to link it all together. VERY IMPORTANT. I thank God I already prepared for this question)

VO: I can see its a relative that is sponsoring you
Me: Yes, my Uncle

VO: Who is he and what does he do?
Me: He's an established engineer her in Lagos and has his own construction company with over 100 staffs. He is also a Federal Senator (My uncle is a politician, so i made sure i included that)

VO: What is the name of the company? Spell it
ME: A B C D E ( then he kept typing. This man googled the company in my presence then asked me questions)

VO: (looking at the system) where is this company?
Me: it is at XYZ here in Lagos

VO: Good. Anything to show that you and this man are related?
Me: Yes, I have a family photo here with me (though he didn't ask for it)
(Guys, please go prepared!!!)

VO: Why will he be paying this much for your fees?
Me: He has been sponsoring my education since my secondary school and he's just like a father to me.

VO: (began to type oooooooooooooooooo, then he brought out white paper)
VO: I will not be giving your visa now because the extension given by your school is not on your I-20 so...

Me: (i no allow am land o) But i told you i have given you and extension letter from the school and I also registered and resumed classes online and ...

VO: (Him sef no allow me land) Calm down sir, I didn't say I am not approving your visa, see your white paper, I have approved it. However just do one thing. Email your school today, tell them to indicate the extension given to you on your I-20. I will also give you back your passport and this white paper. Once the school has updated it, take the updated I-20 and your passport to our DHL office at XYZ You don't have to come for another interview. Your visa has been approved!!!

Me: (with all manner of Joy and smile): Thank you sir!!!

(So if your department is giving you an extension letter for resumption, contact the International Affairs department of your school, send them the letter your department gave you, and tell them to reflect that extension in the remarks section of the I-20)

Shalom!!! Wish you all THE best!!!

Congratulations. This is one of the best transcripts I've seen in a very long time. You did a very good job. I'm Soo proud of you, you'll surely do exploits.

Visa Approved: Aug 16, 2021 at Abuja Embassy
9am appointment First attempt

I give glory to God because he is the one that did it because I blabbed at some point but I was able to recover. The importance of being adequately prepared cannot also be over emphasized but it is God that blesses hard work.

I'll give some backstory and a bit of my profile.
I started the process early this year, took the GRE and TOEFL exam. I tried to schedule an appointment in Lagos since June, waited as long as I could and switched to Abuja, early July. Got an emergency appointment date in Abuja which was eventually canceled after I had arrived Abuja and even paid for a hotel which was maddening. I came back, and after sending several mails my appointment was scheduled for the 16th of August. I eventually contacted @nigpatriot a few days to my interview because I wanted to be as prepared as I could. While praying seriously as well. I think I gave equal time to prepping and praying.
I am a finance professional with over 3yrs experience and skill in auditing, accounting and finance. I have a degree in accounting and I am also a chartered accountant.
Age: 26
Program: M.Sc Computer Science
Funding: 8k
Deficit: 19k
I was interviewed by the white lady. She’s not trying to be funny or having any opinion or assuming things about you. I think she tries to give everyone a fair chance.
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning, ma’am.
VO: I see you are going for a master's program in computer science
Me: Yes, I am
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as an auditor at this company where I analyze the company’s financials and provide recommendations to management to aid decision making. I also carry out inventory data analysis to monitor inventory movement... cuts in...
VO: What will this course do for you?
Me: I will come back to Nigeria to take up a role in financial consulting. (This was where I goofed or thought I goofed because I had a wholesome answer to this question but it ran away at that point even after a lot of practice probably because I was a bit nervous.) I tried to back up the answer with: in the long run, I intend to start up a financial consulting firm that will use technology to carry out financial services.
VO: Why this school?
Me: I chose this school because they offer courses in data analytics technology and artificial intelligence which i'm interested in learning and this technology is changing the face of my industry. (I used simpler terms like this is how we do it now.)
Also, this school awarded me a tuition waiver, I was about to say something else then she cuts in:
VO: Who is sponsoring you?
Me: My dad will be sponsoring me
VO: What does he do?
Me: He owns a business that is into the supply of construction materials to some of the top construction companies here in Nigeria. I mentioned the companies
Vo: Okay your visa is approved
she said something about countries to avoid and other things I didn't quite get.
Me: Thank you, ma’am.

I was elated and I’m still very much thankful to God. I will continue to tell everyone about his goodness.

Oh yeah cheesy Congratulations. All the best in your endeavors.

Oya go and protest at the embassy or call the White House. You can even Call Buhari to plead on your behalf.

I don't think you're being empathetic here. If you were in their shoes would you feel comfortable someone saying what you're saying.

The rant is necessary especially for people who have had to travel long distances only for their appointments to be cancelled without prior notice. I know you mean no harm but the least you can do for people is to give hope.

Good day, I have been going through this thread for months now and have finally decided to embark on this journey.
I would pls want direction as it relates to choosing an appropriate course. I have over 9 years working experience working with a government agency. I am in my 40s , so finished my undergraduate studies a long time ago but intend on going for a masters program now.
The issue is although I have been working in the logistics unit, its not the conventional "logistics and supply chain management kind of job description. A friend who is currently studying in Texas advised that apply along the lines of my 1st degree, which is definitely not part of what I'm doing. I'm strongly tending towards A masters in Strategic Communication or similar courses, I can see career progression in that area.
Thinking of a visa approval at the end of the day, what would be your advice please? Thanks

Hi, I think your friend was very spot on , in telling you to apply for something in sync with your first degree. But then, work experience can fill in for this gap - if you feel the need to change your path to a differently related 2nd degree. You have more than 8 years experience that should suffice in augmenting this gap.

For visa approval, the consular would want to know what you've been doing since graduation from your first degree, and since it's entirely different you might as well want to master in your current place of assignment, I think that makes sense. Most especially if you'll be returning back to your current place of work. - seems like a continuity plan.

That's my 2cents. All the best.

Hello house am,dami by name,am a 400l student who is trying to get a funded tuition in any US school, am studying Agricultural Extension & Communication technology ..I have gone through this US visa thread from pg 1- 369 ,but all I saw was soo new & strange being a newbie, pls can you guide me through on how to research for a school & other processes,am ready to learn & follow instructions, I would really appreciate your time .thanks

I assume you're in your finals in school. First of all try to decide which cohort you want to go for. Fall/spring/summer. Fall is usually the most prominent of the three, because there is usually more intakes and funding opportunities. Fall begins usually August/September. While application begins Oct/November of the previous year.

So what you need to do is to decide the program you want to go for, you didn't state if it's BSc Msc or PhD you want to go for. Well, firstly search for schools using Google, type in key words " schools in the US offering xx course" check USnews, msinus. Also another notorious way to search for schools are through recommendation, you can use social media- (I know someone who found his school via facebook), but LinkedIn might be your best bet, search for people in courses you're interested in and send them a message asking relevant questions. The US has quite a number of schools, nobody expects you to research on each of them, streamline to about 10 of them. (Use criteria like ranking, faculty depth, acceptance rate, funding opportunities, location). A way to know all of these is simply going to the schools website, and always try to mail the graduate cordianators of schools before spending any amount on application fees - this will save you stress on the long run.

When you've gotten schools you want to apply to, look out for their requirements to gain admission, - GRE, TOEFL, GPA cutoffs,Statement of purpose, letter of recommendations. Etc. One tip that will aid and expedite your application is to get your unofficial transcript ready.

This is a summary of the application process. Then when you've gotten admission. Next is the visa stage, request your i20 from the school, pay your Sevis fee, pay your MRV fee, book a date and then attend the interview.

To those wagging their tongues, it's not like I'm unkind, heartless like y'all think and assume. I think you just like to cover things like typical Nigerians would do. Instead of you to say things as they are, you will be taking corners to say things. Not like I'm mocking Approvalll or anything because of his denials. The first time I came across his post, I was even bothered and gave my own 1 Satoshi of advice to him until I noticed how unserious he always sounds. So I stopped taking him serious. My sacarsm sometimes are too strong. I apologize for that but I still try straighten things up when I discover it's getting out of hand. I don't know how old Approvalll is but I think I've got some respect for him. He must be a Gunner fan sha. To the "gboromideleru" , you can go and take your apology from Buhari.

You can use your sarcasm to open a comedy blog or something. But this is a forum and if you don't have anything helpful to contribute, then just be a reader.

Coming from someone that has been denied so many times... this space sef...

So because he has been denied many times, hence he isn't qualified to advice visa hopefuls? That's a parochial thought process! Incontrovertibly, he is even in a good position for that because of the "many times".

Btw, how would you have even known he had been denied if not that he chose to post his experience here. It takes a lot to post a denied transcript. Most will rather be silent and wait for someone else to post something similar - and then take cues from the scrutiny.

Ironically, people will learn from denied transcripts than approved.

LOL.....Good question...Nigerians and being stupidly religious is damn annoying
.

No one can deny that this visa process has some atom of luck. No matter how prepared you are, at times just the disposition or emotional state of the VO can determine the outcome. So the grace factor cannot be ruled out.

We have seen transcripts of people who have stuttered, gone blank and made several grammatical errors, yet still get approved. So yet this is not to juxtapose being lacklustre for putting in the required effort.

If being religious works for them - (of which it has worked for many), let it be. You should not be annoyed at the path someone chooses to follow; the end justifies the means.

Prepare and pray for Grace! Grace is important.
