Graphics2021: You have to be intentional about your decision. If you really desire the F1 then you should focus on that. And I can categorically tell you inviting someone for b1/b2 visa makes no difference, because no VO would ask to see any invitation letter, quote me anywhere. Focus on your F1 when you get your visa, you can attend any wedding. 3 Likes |

official4000: I fully understand how you feel. This issue of "family history" is a very flawed criteria used by the US embassy in adjudicating visas, because to be fair, how should having a brother or a relative affect your personal ambition and goals especially after going through the stress of gaining admission and considering the financial resources spent on the application process. It's only logical that if the embassy has an issue with a relative in the US on how they got their papers and all, they should pass the mete on who violated the law and not on an innocent applicant. I empathize with you, moving forward, I'll advice you to reapply. You know what you're going to do; when filling your next DS160 where it's stated "what has changed in your application". Use that box to explain your situation explicitly, I mean you're only 17 and should not be the one making decisions for you brother that chose to get married after his F1. State clearly, all you know about him (if possible speak with him and let him know what transpired) but still emphasize on why you really need this academic progression and your ambition to study in the US. Giving reasons why you will come back to Nigeria. Talk about the problem you will solve with this degree when you return to Nigeria, the agency you would aspire to work when you return to Nigeria. Your dreams are valid! All the best. 15 Likes 2 Shares |

Yinkagbo: Full funding, so why did you need personal savings of 35kusd? (Except maybe you were going with dependents. Full funding means no deficit, covers tuition, health insurance housing etc. And most probably is coming from the school. So you need to understand your i-20. Especially how the funds are being split on the R.H.S of that document. 3 Likes |

fantabulous08: If you have direct relatives (brother, sister, parent). It's good if you notify in your DS160. Cus the chances they might know are high, Just know what they're up to there, what their status is and how they got in. Having a sponsor as a US citizen isn't an outright denial, check past transcripts of people who have used this and got approved. You can search the thread using key words "Us citizen" "transcript" 1 Like 1 Share |

Rector202: What's your transcript like? Also was the funding partial or complete? Thrash your issues before reapplying, so you don't make same mistake twice. "once bitten twice shy" |

Tirinng: Very possible. Even if it comes in July and you're able to use EA. You'll most probably get a date. It's better to be prepared and be late than rush and be unprepared. If the funding comes through your visa approval has higher chances. 4 Likes |

omitusaf: You don't have an issue, just as you have put it up here you can relay the same information - mention something unique about this program that your previous masters didn't have. (even if there's nothing unique, at the interview sell it differently). But I have an issue with the bolded above, always try to mention names of schools - especially when you're needing the help of others (one good turn deserves another) |

ugobent: You should want to know why your EA was denied ( since you are supposedly qualified for one), were you able to submit all required docs; Sevis ID, completed DS-160 confirmation page, i-20 / Admission letter showing stipulated date of resumption? if you did all these and were still rejected, you can try resending them a mail or calling the consulate to plead your case. i think their numbers are on the US embassy site. or they've been posted here severally in the past. try to search. All the best! |

Evaowokotomo: It depends on how your school categorizes the funds. Some schools assign any funds outside of GA/RA as personal funds. in that case, you won't have any worries about any such discrepancy. So yeah you can go ahead and use the account, 2 months' time might be too late to start seeking your i20. |

Dagorobeto: Yes it still stands, because the proof of funds required to show, should cover your one year expenses . Subsequent years expenses are not required by the embassy or the school before issuing i20 document. |

adextems: To be honest with you, once the VO sees your i20 and realizes that your expected date of resumption has passed and you have no letter from the school to attest that you are to resume for a post-date, that will be an easy denial from the VO. (Read up immigration rules). Your best bet would be to follow up rigorously with your school to ensure they are swift in approving your new i20. So you don't waste effort and time just to get a denial at the end of the day. 2 Likes |

illumined999333: 27k should be around 14-15 million using embassy conversion rate to naira. So 30 million naira should be fine. As for the stipulated expected monthly income. There is no fixed amount for that. The aim is for you to be able to demonstrate that your sponsor is either into business or a paid salary and has a statement of account where there is sufficient and regular cash flow. 1 Like 1 Share |

Esthered: I'm not sure if someone has answered this. But i20 is the document that shows the SEVIS ID and student record which will be used to track the student by the Uscis, when she finally arrives in the states. Let her request for the i20 from the international services of her school, this can be gotten via email (usually within days, depending on the workload and efficacy of the personnel). After she gets the i20, she should meticulously go through the documents (especially the financial aspect) to ensure there are no errors. She can proceed to pay for her sevis fee using the SEVIS id usually at the top of the i20. And also use it in applying for visa date on the cgi portal. 2 Likes |

Bambarino: For university of Lagos transcript you can either apply for students copy of transcript via the student portal. I think the fee is about 1,000 naira. Then for the official transcript you can use records.unilag.edu.ng which is rather straight forward. 1 Like |

I'll advice anyone sending anything to Nigeria NEVER TO USE USPS OR NIPOST OR EMS. THEY ARE THE WORST you can think of. And the sad thing is they have many agents on here. Please if you can use DHL OR FEDEX. It's totally worth it. NIPOST/EMS steal packages, open packages, exchange them. Because they know that it's Nigeria and no one will do anything about it. My parcel is still on transit since I sent them from the US 3rd of January 2022. They keep saying it's on transit. When USPS HAVE VERIFIED that it's in Nigeria. I promise I will get that parcel. Whoever did anything shady will know they dealt with the wrong person. |

Bisola07: You should be ready to explain the relationship you have with your aunt. Why is she willing to spend that much on you? What have you done so far academically to be a best bet to receive such investment. Use mom's sister or dad sister. That gives better proximity with your sponsor. 1 Like |

chimae24: Welcome. I guess you're aiming for an undergraduate degree. Just ensure you do very well in your SAT. that's your head start. Then from there. You can try using common app to get more information on schools. Or also you can check out schools which give scholarships. Berea college in Kentucky, Massachusetts institute of Tech. Many many schools. Just try to perform spectacularly in your SAT and watch doors open for you 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Debbiey: Hi Debbie, you will get your Visa. please do come back to share your experience. Focus more on your professional caliber, forget about the bead business, you're an academic instructor, and on your off days, you also assist in the running of your husband's business, but remember to tell the VO, you are not the one running the business full-time, you already have someone whose in charge, because if not. The VO would want to know, why both of you are leaving the start-up. in recap, just summarise your story to make sense. Hope your understand? all the best 13 Likes 2 Shares |

bishopkinkin: You're always adviced to go without agent for this US F1 visa "hustle". Any information you want has been posted here if you read through previous threads - I can bet you'll find what you're looking for. Many (not all) of these agents are just after how to get your money. And you can always ask questions, there are people just like myself that can answer such. With CGPAs of even 2.75/5.0 you can get a direct masters to schools in the US. You just have to know the right school to apply to, and know how to finetune your profile to fit into what the school requires. By fine-tuning I mean your Statement of Purpose is one of the most important documents after your transcripts. You have to sell yourself, there is more to you than your CGPA. Am I right? 10 Likes |

Wendywilson: Most definitely, if a professor is ready to accept you. It means the both of you have shared some correspondence - which should include transcripts, CVs test scores etc, and most likely you've met the basic requirement to be given admission. Which is why he is ready to accept you. At this point, do your due diligence by checking the basic requirement of your course from the schools website. If I were you, I wouldn't even be asking. What do you stand to lose? Application fee? Now look, what you stand to gain - tuition covered, stipends, high chance of visa approval, entry into a land of opportunities. I've said too much. 5 Likes |

Cap91: From the transcript you posted it's going to be an uphill task convincing anyone that your "spiritual father" will sponsor you. You might not be aware, but by default when you stand in front of the consular officer, you are already prejudged to be an illegal migrant. i.e you should be denied entry. So you make the work of the interviewer easy by giving them poor/unconvincing answers such as this, you noticed the refusal was fast. Hence the onus is on you to change that narrative and declare your genuineness - while this is a sad truth and invariably, maybe a harsh approach from the US immigration. You have to play by their rules. (you need them more than they need you - at the moment). So prepare better, majority of denials comes as a result of not carefully demonstrating how you can cover your finances - which is why people would always say get full-funding and your approval is almost certain. Yes you can apply for another EA. (Bypassing the 6 month rule) Include supporting documents. But what's most important is for you to change your circumstance. How would you cover your finances? 10 Likes |
