Expert in the house....Kindly help me on this. I need advice
Have being offered admission and i will be having my F1 Visa coming up next month
But my nephew in the USA which he also a citizen is inviting me over for his wedding coming up soon this year (His lawyer has started the process of my coming as well) though his not aware about my admission and F1 visa coming up

I think if my F1 visa is approved i will tell him to stop the Visit visa cause i will be opportune to attend the wedding like that
But what if my F1 visa is denied. Will it’s affect the visit visa his process as well.
I don’t know weather to inform him about my F1 visa yet
Though my school location and his location is different and far from which other
Advice, solution and answer to what will happen to the visit process if F1 is denied
Thanks
Regards

You have to be intentional about your decision. If you really desire the F1 then you should focus on that. And I can categorically tell you inviting someone for b1/b2 visa makes no difference, because no VO would ask to see any invitation letter, quote me anywhere. Focus on your F1 when you get your visa, you can attend any wedding.

Went for my visa interview in Lagos,

VO: Good morning..
Me: Good Morning
VO: Where are u going to?
Me: I'm going to South's Plains College Levelland Lubbock Texas to get an associate degree in business administration there....(VO cuts in)
VO: Have u traveled out before:
Me: yes, back in 2014 I went on a family trip to London with my family...
VO: Do u have any relatives in London...
Me: Yes, my mom's sister,my aunt...
VO: How old are u?
Me: I'm 17
VO: When did u graduate from High School..
Me: 2021, October
VO: types and keeps on typing..
VO: How did ur brother get his green card?
Me: Marriage
VO: What is ur brother's wife's name?
Me: (says name)
VO: How long has he been married for?
Me: 2 to 3 years...I'm not all too sure about the exact number of years...
VO: Do they have kids?
Me:No, not yet anyways....
VO: I'm sorry I'll have to deny ur visa...
Me: Is this denial related to information about my brother?
VO: check the letter ....PS: I know already what is there .
Me: Did anything go wrong during the interview...I'd like to know to make corrections when I reapply...
VO: I'm sorry I knows it frustrating, check the letter... I'll have to call the next person now...
Me: leaves in utmost shock and surprise

On the letter the reason for denial is Section 214(b) of immigration and nationality act.

My elder brother got married there after going in with an F-1 visa back in 2015. Does this mean all members of my family will be unable to get a US visa for this reason, majority of my family lives back home and I wasn’t asked about them but got denied due to ‘lack of home ties’ I just felt it was unfair I didn’t get a chance to actually talk about myself or what my degree will do for me. What can I do before reapplying?

I fully understand how you feel. This issue of "family history" is a very flawed criteria used by the US embassy in adjudicating visas, because to be fair, how should having a brother or a relative affect your personal ambition and goals especially after going through the stress of gaining admission and considering the financial resources spent on the application process. It's only logical that if the embassy has an issue with a relative in the US on how they got their papers and all, they should pass the mete on who violated the law and not on an innocent applicant.

I empathize with you, moving forward, I'll advice you to reapply. You know what you're going to do; when filling your next DS160 where it's stated "what has changed in your application". Use that box to explain your situation explicitly, I mean you're only 17 and should not be the one making decisions for you brother that chose to get married after his F1. State clearly, all you know about him (if possible speak with him and let him know what transpired) but still emphasize on why you really need this academic progression and your ambition to study in the US. Giving reasons why you will come back to Nigeria. Talk about the problem you will solve with this degree when you return to Nigeria, the agency you would aspire to work when you return to Nigeria. Your dreams are valid!

All the best.

You were actually right... The vo at window 11 gave lot of people white paper but as for, I am very unlucky...I got denied With full funding, personal saving of 35k usd and government organization fund 21k usd. The Korean guy bleeped me up.
Is it possible for me to reply again

Full funding, so why did you need personal savings of 35kusd? (Except maybe you were going with dependents.

Full funding means no deficit, covers tuition, health insurance housing etc. And most probably is coming from the school. So you need to understand your i-20. Especially how the funds are being split on the R.H.S of that document.

Hello, please what’s the fate of someone who has his sponsor as a US citizen, another sibling as a Non-immigrant (a student) and filled “yes” as do you have other relative in the USA?
All these has been filled and submitted in the DS-160

If you have direct relatives (brother, sister, parent). It's good if you notify in your DS160. Cus the chances they might know are high, Just know what they're up to there, what their status is and how they got in. Having a sponsor as a US citizen isn't an outright denial, check past transcripts of people who have used this and got approved. You can search the thread using key words "Us citizen" "transcript"

Good afternoon everyone embarassed,

I was denied recently with a funded offer at Abuja. I have been trying to look out for a new date. Although, I have been seeing dates released for the past one week (on the Regular Visa priority), these dates will not reflect on the Denied section of the Visa priority.

Please what can I do? Will dates be out under the denied section within the 6 months? Do I wait? Or can I go ahead to pick a date from Regular? Please does anyone have any experience with this? And what is your counsel?

What's your transcript like? Also was the funding partial or complete? Thrash your issues before reapplying, so you don't make same mistake twice. "once bitten twice shy"

Good morning house, I have a question please.

Moshkom, Ummzayd or any helping individual

What's the possibility of starting a visa process in July and seeing dates plus getting approval for an August/September start date?

I am still waiting on funding decisions which might come in Late June.

Very possible. Even if it comes in July and you're able to use EA. You'll most probably get a date. It's better to be prepared and be late than rush and be unprepared. If the funding comes through your visa approval has higher chances.

Good afternoon great minds!

I'm in a bit of dilemma here. I'm really confused, and I would love your suggestions.

When I was applying to US grad schools last year, I had the intention of applying for a PhD. However, one of the schools I was really interested in said applicants without a Masters degree should apply for the Masters program even though they want to further continue to the PhD. In my case, I had not completed my Masters program as at the time, so I applied for the Masters.
After interviewing with a professor, he offered me a fully funded GRA position and told me funding was available for me to continue to PhD.

I have also filled it in my DS-160 form that I have completed my Masters.

During the visa interview, wouldn't the VO think it's a red flag since I already have a Masters degree in a similar field to the Masters I want to pursue in the US? I also heard that those officers do not allow one to fully articulate one's point before cutting one short. What are your tips and suggestions for me?

You don't have an issue, just as you have put it up here you can relay the same information - mention something unique about this program that your previous masters didn't have. (even if there's nothing unique, at the interview sell it differently).
But I have an issue with the bolded above, always try to mention names of schools - especially when you're needing the help of others (one good turn deserves another)

Please help a brother....got denied of EA today in Lagos after applying for EA within the 60 days stipulated time frame, I'm to resume my school in 31th of this month.... please what's your advice to follow immediately. Really running out of time...

Thank you for your consideration.

You should want to know why your EA was denied ( since you are supposedly qualified for one), were you able to submit all required docs; Sevis ID, completed DS-160 confirmation page, i-20 / Admission letter showing stipulated date of resumption? if you did all these and were still rejected, you can try resending them a mail or calling the consulate to plead your case. i think their numbers are on the US embassy site. or they've been posted here severally in the past. try to search. All the best!

Dear all,

Please my school is asking me to upload proof of account with 30, 000 dollars before they issue me i20. Can I upload a friends account now to obtain the i20 and when it is time for visa interview and then use my family account. I can’t use my family account now because the money in it is not yet complete. It will be complete in 2 months.

Please I need answers.

It depends on how your school categorizes the funds. Some schools assign any funds outside of GA/RA as personal funds. in that case, you won't have any worries about any such discrepancy. So yeah you can go ahead and use the account, 2 months' time might be too late to start seeking your i20.

Boss, what if one is going in for an MSc and the second year is for internship. Having a COA of 27k, does the bold statement stand?

Yes it still stands, because the proof of funds required to show, should cover your one year expenses . Subsequent years expenses are not required by the embassy or the school before issuing i20 document.

Good morning everyone.

Please, I need your input on this.
My appointment is next month.
I was supposed to resume on the 4th of this month but I couldn’t secure an appointment date on time.
I requested for a new i-20 from the school for summer resumption since my programmes is open for it but I don’t know how soon the school will reply.
Do I proceed with the interview if the school doesn’t reply me before then and go with the old I-20? Please, what do you suggest I tell the VO or what do you think I should do?

Thank you as you reply.

To be honest with you, once the VO sees your i20 and realizes that your expected date of resumption has passed and you have no letter from the school to attest that you are to resume for a post-date, that will be an easy denial from the VO. (Read up immigration rules).

Your best bet would be to follow up rigorously with your school to ensure they are swift in approving your new i20. So you don't waste effort and time just to get a denial at the end of the day.

Good day, I've been reading transcripts, and I came across yours from last year. I would like you to ask you, for a program whose cost of attendance is 27k per year, what is the LEAST monthly income a sponsor is required to earn that might make the consul view him as a capable sponsor. Also, would a 30million naira account balance be just enough for a bank statement?

27k should be around 14-15 million using embassy conversion rate to naira. So 30 million naira should be fine.
As for the stipulated expected monthly income. There is no fixed amount for that. The aim is for you to be able to demonstrate that your sponsor is either into business or a paid salary and has a statement of account where there is sufficient and regular cash flow.

Good evening, my younger sister just got assistantship for her MSC in the US. Please what does she need to know at this point as she said she's been hearing I-20 and doesn't understand it.

I'm not sure if someone has answered this. But i20 is the document that shows the SEVIS ID and student record which will be used to track the student by the Uscis, when she finally arrives in the states.
Let her request for the i20 from the international services of her school, this can be gotten via email (usually within days, depending on the workload and efficacy of the personnel). After she gets the i20, she should meticulously go through the documents (especially the financial aspect) to ensure there are no errors. She can proceed to pay for her sevis fee using the SEVIS id usually at the top of the i20. And also use it in applying for visa date on the cgi portal.

For university of Lagos transcript you can either apply for students copy of transcript via the student portal. I think the fee is about 1,000 naira. Then for the official transcript you can use records.unilag.edu.ng which is rather straight forward.

I'll advice anyone sending anything to Nigeria NEVER TO USE USPS OR NIPOST OR EMS. THEY ARE THE WORST you can think of.

And the sad thing is they have many agents on here. Please if you can use DHL OR FEDEX. It's totally worth it.

NIPOST/EMS steal packages, open packages, exchange them. Because they know that it's Nigeria and no one will do anything about it.

My parcel is still on transit since I sent them from the US 3rd of January 2022. They keep saying it's on transit. When USPS HAVE VERIFIED that it's in Nigeria. I promise I will get that parcel. Whoever did anything shady will know they dealt with the wrong person.

You should be ready to explain the relationship you have with your aunt. Why is she willing to spend that much on you? What have you done so far academically to be a best bet to receive such investment. Use mom's sister or dad sister. That gives better proximity with your sponsor.

Welcome. I guess you're aiming for an undergraduate degree. Just ensure you do very well in your SAT. that's your head start. Then from there. You can try using common app to get more information on schools. Or also you can check out schools which give scholarships. Berea college in Kentucky, Massachusetts institute of Tech. Many many schools. Just try to perform spectacularly in your SAT and watch doors open for you

Good morning all.

Please I need help. My interview is in about 7 working days time.

Still looking for what I can present as strong home/work tie.

I'm an F2. Hubby left for study in January. We're just 10 months married.

My work experience is not encouraging at all.

Finished B.Sc 2010
Finished MPH 2015

Taught in secondary schools for like 3 years.

Volunteered in a public health NGO for 1 year.

But now, I'm self employed. I do bead works. That's my main job. However, on the side, I teach mathematics private lessons to students & I'm also an Admin staff for my husband's start up biz.

What exactly can I put down to reflect work ties among all of these disjointed pieces that are not even related to my course of Study?

Hi Debbie, you will get your Visa. please do come back to share your experience. Focus more on your professional caliber, forget about the bead business, you're an academic instructor, and on your off days, you also assist in the running of your husband's business, but remember to tell the VO, you are not the one running the business full-time, you already have someone whose in charge, because if not. The VO would want to know, why both of you are leaving the start-up. in recap, just summarise your story to make sense. Hope your understand? all the best

Good morning Everyone.

So I got an admission to Claremont graduate University California for fall 2022 but it seems I will have to defer till 2023 or try another school. I wanted a full funding with stipend but I only got a fellowship award on my COA for about $10,000 and recently got another option to apply for $5,000 scholar award. The issue is the fees is still high(over $50k), I cannot afford it and I don't want to use loan. I messaged my GA but he said I cannot apply for assistantship until after my first semester.

Another alternative suggested by my friend is to come in and change my school to a much lesser one which I can afford. I don't know if anyone has some knowledge about this.

I would also like to request for links to schools that offer full funding and I don't mind waiting till 2023 to get this.

i like your sincerity and push. Whats your academic profile like?

I already paid the tuition deposit sadly just waiting I-20

You're always adviced to go without agent for this US F1 visa "hustle". Any information you want has been posted here if you read through previous threads - I can bet you'll find what you're looking for. Many (not all) of these agents are just after how to get your money. And you can always ask questions, there are people just like myself that can answer such. With CGPAs of even 2.75/5.0 you can get a direct masters to schools in the US. You just have to know the right school to apply to, and know how to finetune your profile to fit into what the school requires. By fine-tuning I mean your Statement of Purpose is one of the most important documents after your transcripts. You have to sell yourself, there is more to you than your CGPA. Am I right?

Pls if a professor is ready to accept you to his lab and encourages you to apply to the school. How can his acceptance to his lab increases the chances of getting admitted into the school?

Most definitely, if a professor is ready to accept you. It means the both of you have shared some correspondence - which should include transcripts, CVs test scores etc, and most likely you've met the basic requirement to be given admission. Which is why he is ready to accept you. At this point, do your due diligence by checking the basic requirement of your course from the schools website. If I were you, I wouldn't even be asking. What do you stand to lose? Application fee? Now look, what you stand to gain - tuition covered, stipends, high chance of visa approval, entry into a land of opportunities.
I've said too much.

Visa denied
Today 1st March 2022
VO: I can see you are going for a masters degree in......
Me: yes
VO: who's sponsoring the program?
Me: Rev ...... He's my spiritual father and has Been my sponsor ever since in high school.
The VO typed for a very long time and issued me a blue paper which states that in section 214b . That I don't have a strong ties at home. Whereas he didn't ask me and I'm married with 3kids.

My question is what should be the problem and what will I do to schedule another appointment before sevis fee expires. I read from the blue paper that I need to pay for another visa fee before rescheduling.

Next question: if I pay for another visa fee, will I be able to schedule another EA because my school resumes May 16.

Please help innocent soul

From the transcript you posted it's going to be an uphill task convincing anyone that your "spiritual father" will sponsor you. You might not be aware, but by default when you stand in front of the consular officer, you are already prejudged to be an illegal migrant. i.e you should be denied entry. So you make the work of the interviewer easy by giving them poor/unconvincing answers such as this, you noticed the refusal was fast.
Hence the onus is on you to change that narrative and declare your genuineness - while this is a sad truth and invariably, maybe a harsh approach from the US immigration. You have to play by their rules. (you need them more than they need you - at the moment).

So prepare better, majority of denials comes as a result of not carefully demonstrating how you can cover your finances - which is why people would always say get full-funding and your approval is almost certain.

Yes you can apply for another EA. (Bypassing the 6 month rule) Include supporting documents. But what's most important is for you to change your circumstance. How would you cover your finances?
