I don't understand how so many of you rush to discount penalties as if penalty taking is not a vital skill in itself.

As you probably remember, it was Scholes missed penalty that lost Manyoo the FA Cup final in 2005. And in Moscow 2008 he was removed in the 90th minute when it looked like a penalty shooutout could be on the cards.

Scholes was crap at Pens and the fact that he only scored 1 out of 3 attempts for Manyoo in the league tells is another example of why he is inferior to Gerrard

What we recognise as Ballon D'or now is the FIFA WPOTY not France Football magazines award for players in Europe only.

As a compromise, it was named FIFA Ballon D'or. Assessing history, no one will pick the France Football magazine award when assessing WPOTY. They will pick the FIFA version which is the legitimate version.

Its like saying Michael Owen was WPOTY in 2001, when he only won the Ballon D'or. Everyone knows Figo was WPOTY in 2001. If I say Figo was Ballon D'or 2001, we are referring to the WPOTY which adopted the Ballon D'or name in 2010. The rest na semantics.

Michael Owen on the other hand will be referred to as European player of the Year 2001, not Ballon D'or. Dem no born am well to claim what he is not.

It's easy to say he lacked positional discipline when he spent most of his 17 years at Liverpool paired with rubbish in midfield.

You do not get voted 3rd best player in the world, and make several UEFA teams of the Year if you lack positional discipline.

Gerrard had no real 'position' for Liverpool. He was thier talisman so he roved all over the pitch. He has lined up on both flanks, as a supporting striker, central midfield, defensive midfield...even left back.

Asking what Gerrard won in comparison to Scholes is irrelevant. Scholes played for the most dominant team in the history of the EPL, Gerrard played mostly with average-joes and wastemen.

The question you need to ask is why Gerrard has far more individual honours than Scholes despite playing for a rubbish team.
