I just got a job in a Nigerian bank as a full time staff, I'm presently in Lagos for training school. Please I need to drink from the wealth of knowledge of bankers and ex-bankers here. Please read on.

Banking life is something I always wanted; I needed a very busy kind of job where I would need to put a lot of time and get satisfaction from it as well. I kind of hate boredom and love doing lots of stuff as long as I'm enjoying it.

I'm in my late 20's and not planning to marry any time soon, so I have a lot of time on my hands for that.

Despite being new to Lagos, I'm have got used to the early rise and sleep late banking life as I easily wake up by 4am and reach work(training school) by 6:30am, all ready for the day. I rarely get stressed, I have handled lots of work load in my former job, all I do is just plug my earphones and the stress is deleted. I don't need to sleep much to be fixed from stress as 3-6 hours of sleep always fixes me easily.

Now I'm here at training school and I can't really get my mind made at which career path to follow in banking after training school, I would have a chance to pick a department I wanna work with after training school due to high performance at training school.

I have a B.Sc (Ed.) In Computer Science Statistics. I'm definitely getting professional certificates relevant to the banking sector as I grow on the job too.

I wanna work here in Lagos at the head office. I think I want a lot of career visibility and head office is my target.

I'm considering picking I.T because I have some I.T competence.
I'm also considering e-business/channels because I love it.

Also considering HR, and hoping to get into Talent management arm of HR as I have some education competence as well.

I'm also considering Corporate Communications because I love communication and I'm a skilled writer with years of impeccable writing and communication prowess.

I'm also considering Risk Management and Compliance department. I think I love Compliance because I hate it when things are not done right and according set rules.

Strategy department is also one I love to pick, because I love strategic thinking and the power of such a department.

Corporate Planning and Transformation is another department I'm in love with because I have a thing for such area as I'm a very creative thinker.

Treasury is another department I'm considering.

Now can you see how confused I'm? Please I need help from all the experienced bankers and ex-bankers in the house to help a newbie like me getting into the system.

Please which departments are better for career growth and the ones best suited for crossing to other sectors as I might not have to stay in banking all my life.

Please no advise or information would be useless, please I need all the bitter truth I can get as well. And please correct me as well in areas I have a wrong perception to.

That's a scam site and what we call phishing (fake website made to look like the real one with an intent to defraud or harm unsuspecting victims)

While China University of Petroleum does actually exit, the real website is http://www.upc.edu.cn (notice it ended with .cn which stands for China just like our .ng). However the fraudsters created a fake website with address ending with .org which stands for organisation this is simply because no two websites can have same address.

The fake is something like www.upc.17gz.org

Dude, learn to analyse stuff well before you run your mouth about something you don't know about.

www.17gz.org is a portal that some Chinese Uni's use for online applications for International students, and that's why you see www.upc.17gz.org, it doesn't mean that is the University's website. The UPC you see in the URL is only referring to the section of the portal for that particular university.

Take a look at this official website of a Chinese university and it listed www.17gz.org for it's applications:

You would see that their University's section on the portal of the 17gz.org website is http://hhu.17gz.org showing the university's initials of HHU just as that of UPC above as well.

I can't really place the exact page it went down because its a huge thread and somedays it increases by over 30 pages in 24 hours.

Someone there on the thread won money, then sent well over 100k to Alexistaiwo to share to 100 members of that thread, this Alexistaiwo of a boy didn't not even pay up to 40 people, he then started telling stories and went silent. He came back with more stories, he was asked only to display the names of those he claimed to have funded or show his bank statement to see how many people he sent monies to, he couldn't do that.

Someone else also won more money and shared 400k to the house, another person was appointed by the house to share the money. He shared this money without any compliant within a few days and it was well documented, that's the same thing Alexistaiwo couldn't do because of greed! What a pity!

To calm you guys down, we were told in TS by a TS official that at least two other batches are coming up. And the next set of people should be resuming in about 2-3 weeks.

So you guys expecting TS mails can sleep fine now knowing you are just about 2-3 week from coming here. As long as you didn't have a health challenge discovered during medicals or have an issue with your certificates FBN is not cool with, you would DEFINITELY be called soon, so you guys can calm down, I know the feeling though, waiting when some people you did D&M are already in TS. FBN alone understands how they are partitioning or selecting the whole thing so just chill guys.

To the person asking about PTDF scholarship interview, don't you know the dean of FBN TS and other FBN staff read this thread? Are you a learner?

Now you wanna go ask her for permission when she must have seen your questions about wanting to kill two birds with one stone and go for PTDF interview, I'm sorry for you

That date (Thursday) has already been circled in their calendar and anyone asking for permission that day would be on a long thing.

If PTDF is more important to you, go for it, and if FBN is more important; you know what to do.

I think the issue which is causing all this tension is because First bank stopped offering accommodation as earlier done without prior warning, and I feel that is not fair.

Just a week notice and you expect people to come from thousands of miles from all over Nigeria into a strange land without prior plans about catering for their accommodation, and we have to start an extensive training program in the midst of all this stress and uncertainties. What if most candidates don't even have money for these expenses? We know accommodation is not a right but a privilege but the issue is that candidates had earlier not prepared for this.

Now its even rumoured lectures might be also held at Ikoyi and not only Iganmu, all these is too much for people coming to Lagos newly and especially people who had prepared their minds that the bank would accommodate them.

I believe First bank has its staff welfare at heart and should please look into this. After all we are also part of the future of this bank.

Most of us that received the present TS mail are out of Lagos candidates, maybe the Lagos people would be in the next TS batch(es) coming ahead.

Latest development so far is that there is no accommodation.

Please, Tomilayo Esan (Dean of TS) ma'am in your humble office I and other candidates do plead that FBN considers the no accommodation stand, we have planned with accommodation offered in mind all this while and this move would be hard hitting on us. I'm referring to we out of Lagos candidates.

We know accommodation is not our right but a privilege but please as future staff of the bank please consider our plea. Lots of us are coming from far locations, some of us don't even know anyone in Lagos.

Even if we have to pay for accommodation on TS ground, or even if you guys take it out of our stipend, please any option you guys come up with would be accepted.

I know the dean of TS reads this thread, please consider us ma'am.
