Forgive me bro, am very naive about PR...never had interest. I guess my degree is non-accredited since it a Nigerian degree. So please how do I go about it, since I must write the CDR? Also, the reference letter I already have from them is not detailed. Should I go back to them and appeal to them to detail it? Like what and what does EA really want to see in the reference letter? Thanks bro

Go through the Migration Skill Assessment booklet on Engineers Australia website, it details what format your CDR should and other documents.

Hello sirs and ma'am.. I am new here... I am interested in Aussie's PR. I have 3.7 years work experience (including NYSC), I know I have 45 points, not too sure(am 25, I have a B Eng in civil engineering, no wife).. I am yet to write my IELTs exams (I am yet to register), I have read the EA website, I don't seem to understand it that much... Summary of my story, pls where do I start from? Thank you.

Age-30 points
Qualification-15 points
Experience-5points
Total-50points.
You could do 489 which is temporary skilled sponsor visa although you still need IELTS for assessment with EA. I would advise you to sit for IELTS perhaps you might get at least 7 band in each module which will fetch you extra 10points to get required 60points for 189.

I want to use this medium to welcome back the 1st lady of the house, Mrs BossLadyMo. Its a priviledge to see you here again.

I lost it in this July, so I set a target for next february. But after the advice from malkinburg and NNB2012, I am now considering giving the PR a shot.

I studied mechanical Engineering and the first job I got was in same field (R&A) but I did it as a contract staff. So the name of the employer on my offer letter and pay slips was the recruitment agency, not the company I worked itself. Do you think this will be accepted? Also I did it for 2 years only. Since Engineers Australia require 3 yrs of experience, can I combine it with my one and half years of experience in my new company? My new company is a telecoms, but my job there is mostly mechanical. Pls help me out friends. Thanks y'all

It's strange to read from your post that Engineers Australia needs 3yrs work experience before one could be assessed. It is not so. However, you may find it difficult to write your CDR particularly if your degree is non-accredited. Also you won't get any point for your migration. It doesn't matter the type of company you worked with. Just get reference letter that meets Engineers Australia specifications from them. I would strongly advise you to go for assessment in Mechanical Engineering instead of Telecomm so that you won't be given Engineering Technologist at the end.

@chuckdee: hw far have u gone on your career episode and also ur cdr,am applying to EA too, wld want if we can join minds together on this(you can mail me at anu_akin@yahoo.co.uk)

@bosslady:i v a total point of 55 for the 489 visa,
age-31= 30 points
BSc Engineering=15 point
family sponsor(i v a relative that resides in oz)= 10
exp on current job=2 years=0 point

am a telecoms engineer though, jst two years experience on this field,
i was tld to redo english exam n get the required score to rack up points,bt is there a visa out of the 189,190,489 visas that i cn stil apply for if i dont want to redo d exam..?

You need to sit for English test in order to do your assessment with Engineers Australia and also to gain immigration point. You need minimum of 60points in order to be considered. I would advise you to prepare hard for your IELTS so as to achieve good band.

i guess I have a lot of options to pick from then. Canberra is not an option anymore. Re you in Oz bro? If you're, can you help me with any TAFE institute that runs svp in your state

I really do not know much about student visa but only PR.
Some expats in that area can advise. You just google to check for those Schools.
I will advise you to study courses that are in demand. Check SOL/CSOL.

Okay bro, I had that In mind but it seems jobs aren't that much In regional areas. As someone has to be up and doing, so as to make ends meet. I googled up regional areas and this Is what I found below:

1.New South Wales except Sydney, Newcastle, the Central Coast and Wollongong
2.Queensland except the greater Brisbane area and the Gold Coast
3.Victoria except Melbourne metropolitan area
4.Western Australia except Perth and surrounding areas
5.South Australia Entire State
6.Tasmania Entire State
7.Northern Territory

What can you say bro?

Yes, you are correct based on the information available on immigration website.

Please see the link. It is stated that Canberra is not included.

It is a scam. The same mail was recently sent to a friend of mine and he forwarded it to me so that I could verify the authenticity of it. The company entered voluntary administration since 2011. It does not exist any more.

The PR experts will be in a better position to answer this. I too will love to know the answer.

You can get your PR if you are eligible for it regardless of where you live/study. However, you would have extra 5points if you study in regional area and unfortunately Canberra is not a regional area. I would advise you to study in regional area because of the extra points which can go along way. Make sure that the course you want to study is on SOL/CSOL list and endeavor to gain experience in the same occupation. You must be aware that studying in Australia does not automatically translate to PR. You have to earn the points to be eligible. One could study for years in Australia and not be eligible for PR.

Hi everyone,

I have just received an offer to do a Masters in Hospitality in Sydney.
I currently reside in Canada and my pr situation did not pan out.
So i am looking to make the move to Sydney.
I have a few questions and will appreciate any feedback.
1.) Is it easy to make the transition from a post graduate work permit to Permanent Residence? You will be eligible for post graduate visa if you meet Australian study requirements i.e you must study for at least 2yrs at minimum Bsc level. There is no guarantee of securing PR after your Post graduate visa, you must be eligible for it either through skilled migration path or family.
2.) How is the hospitality, marketing and events job market in Sydney? Are there lots of entry level jobs available? check www.seek.com.au or www.indeed.com.au
3.) How long is the visa processing time from Nigeria. I think it depends majorly on documents provided. One could get visa within 3wks or more.
4) I know the populations is 97% white and coming from a multicultural country like Canada, how does sydney compare to say Toronto or Calgary. Are there black hair salons available? Yes, Australia is a multicultural country. There are several nationalities in Sydney. There plenty black hair salons in Sydney.
5.) Is there any one on here that has made a similar move especially someone in a the marketing/events/advertising etc field. I would love to here from you.

Thanks everyone smiley

Hello house,
For PR applicants, kindly tell, how was your academic transcript sent to the assessing authority?

Engineers Australia has it as part of the documents to be uploaded; however, as our universities here only send it to other institutions I have never gotten by hand. Do I need to figure out a way to get it myself or I just have it sent to Oz directly?

Thanks.

Follow the instructions given on their website to the letter. Endeavour to get hardcopy of your transcript by hand, scan and upload the copy as stated in order not to delay your assessment.

Thanks... His Occupation is on the list (Customer Care Manager) He's presently the Marketing and Distribution Manager of a Chinese company that produces Conduit Pipe but before now his been working as a Logistics Supervisor. All his work experience is post graduate
He used his Diploma Cert not advance Diploma to gain admission into the college. Can't we use the Nigerian College of Admin/Chartered Institute of Admin transcript? (Final Professional Cert). Since we have all his transcript accept that of the Advance Diploma............ The only document we have for the Advance diploma is to whom from Obafemi Awolowo Uni.

Having checked the occupation, I could only see it on CSOL list; it means he has to be nominated by Employer, state, region or family. You need to check each state nomination list to see if the occupation is on the list otherwise he must be sponsored by an employer or a close relative . This link shows you the details of his job decription and qualification he MUST have in order to do the job here in Australia http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Product+Lookup/1220.0~First+Edition,+Revision+1~Chapter~UNIT+GROUP+1492+Call+or+Contact+Centre+and+Customer+Service+Managers.

My diploma was assessed as cert IV so I guess a Nigerian advanced diploma would come off as their diploma...and if that matches the educational requirement for that occupation.. be sure not to get any migration points. Only an Australian diploma earns 10 points.

Any overseas certificate and Diploma assessed to be equivalent to Australian certificate and Advanced diploma will earn 10points. So, it is not only Australian Diploma. It depends on assessing body. TRA and Engineers Australia do assess Advanced Diploma as equivalent to Australian Advanced Diploma. I know of people who have done that.

Good day e-family.....I am not really new to d forum, I had issues with my student visa sometime last year and was given a three year ban on any study related program. Now I have manage to convince my husband to apply for PR...... The issue now is DAT I do not understand his qualification..... he did a Diploma and advance diploma program with Obafemi Awolowo Uni, then used his diploma cert to gain admission to Nigerian College of Admin after which he did his youth service.
My question now is
Can his cert be assest as a degree program or just certificate?

You contributions will highly be appreciated.
Thanks

Advance Diploma in Nigeria will be assessed as equivalent to Advanced Diploma in Australia. Has he checked i his occupation is on the list (SOL/CSOL)? Does he have experience in the said occupation, post graduate? These are things you need to check first.

IELTS vs. PTE

Now I am beginning to reconsider my stance about IELTS objectivity and if it has not been turned to a money-spinning machine.

A colleague of mine in Nigeria just rang me. He's written IELTS twice and about to write the third one when I flicked him NNBB2012's text about a guy's ordeal with IELTS and his decision to opt for PTE - which was positive to earn him migration points.

My friend fell below par in his two previous IELTS exams (always >7 in three bands and <7 in one) and had registered to take the third one. He registered for PTE, got an offer to do the test two days thereafter and he got his result the following day! Outcome? Full migration points!

Registration, test (including speaking) and result notification were all online, all in 3 days! No hassles trying to get a slot, doing the exams in two sessions and endlessly waiting for the results as the 2-week notice IELTS indicates for notification is now failing due to the enormous amount of applications/tests they have to process. Someone told me IELTS is raking in money more that all foreign embassies in Nigeria combined!

Whao! This is goodnews. I hope others struggling with IELTS exam can follow the same path.

my first degree is in petroleum engineering n thats where i have my experince in...less than a year

That's great then. Generally, Engineers Australia will assess applicants at undergraduate level.

I will advise you not to include your second degree because you don't need it really and even I'm sure it's not recognised as an accredited degree in Australia. The implication is that a non-accredited Australian postgraduate degree alone will not meet the academic requirement to confer recognition in Australia. It doesn't give you any extra point in Australian immigration as well. Why then are you bothering yourself? Don't worry about the gap. If you obtained your first degree in Nigeria, it is regarded as an unaccredited degree in Australia. In that case, you will need to write CDR. Kindly refer to Engineers Australia booklet for details of what you need to do.

You have not told me which area you have experience on. Where do you have your first degree? Don't care about the gap you have in-between really.

just completed my masters last year,so i have less than a year exp. i studied petroleum engineering for first degree n second is computer systems engineering

What experience do you have? You don't need your second degree for assessment.

Extract from Engineers Australia

I have an Australian postgraduate engineering degree, but my undergraduate degree is from overseas. Can I use my postgraduate degree from Australia as the basis for my qualification assessment application?

The assessment is based primarily on your undergraduate degree and your demonstrated competencies. Your postgraduate degree will be taken into account in that it contributes to your engineering competencies. However, a non-accredited Australian postgraduate degree alone will not meet the academic requirement to confer recognition in Australia.

Similarly a non-accredited Australian postgraduate degree on top of an overseas qualification will not provide automatic recognition in a higher occupational category. You will still have to apply for a formal assessment of your combined qualifications.

They will assess your First degree which is equivalent to Australia First degree. So, you are fine. You can decide not to add it.

NNB,BossLady and missakomaye thanks alot for the detailed analysis. I am so touched by the time and effort you all devoted to helping me. I am a core network engineer with experience in network switching subsystem. I have some Cisco certification, Huawei and Alcatel Lucent Vendor Training and project management certification (PMP) . I worked briefly with an IT company where i worked as a data network engineer deploying radios at interconnecting banks to their headquarters on microwave radio. I have worked extensively on Call server, Media gateways and Home location Registers. I have also attended some courses on GPRS and third generation network and packet data network (Serving GPRS support Node and Gateway GPRS support Node). Please kindly advise.

The Telco market is not too good for CORE Networks. You won't have issue if you have IT experience and certifications. Check the job websites seek and indeed. You can start applying for job before you arrive. Get a skype account and put the number on your cv. They will give you Australia number. It will appear as if you an in Australia. You need to use that to test the market.

ok i'm not going for Engineering Manager. I shud be able to rake up my points without the exp points. so once i can do that I'm good to go right? but the main this is to get a positive assessment first from EA. when filling all the things I need to I'll need all the help I can get so that I dont do it twice. but the thing with 190 is that i need to get a job offer first before a state can nominate me. then 489...do i need a relative to hold a PR first before he/she can sponsor me?

Focus on English test and assessment for now. It's not every state that requires a job. I know SA & NSW do not require. It is only your relative that can sponsor you for a Family-489 visa.
