prost80: For All Engineers in Australia, what are the differences between a Professional Engineer, Engineering Technologist and an Engineering Associate? I have the MSA booklet but will like more info. Please MSA booklet is the authentic source of information. I don't think there is anything anyone can add to what is in MSA booklet. These are different categories of Engineering personnels with different job functions and minimum qualifications expected in each category. This is similar to what we have in Nigeria namely Engineers,Technologists,Technicians and Craftmen. Professional Engineer minimum qualification is Australian 4Yrs Engineering degree or overseas' equivalent mainly 5years degree/Msc. Engineering Technologist minimum qualification is Australian 3Yrs Engineering Associate degree or overseas' equivalent mainly 4years degree. Engineering Associate minimum qualification is Australian 2Yrs Advance Diploma or overseas' equivalent mainly HND/HNC. |

bossladymo1: Yea....so i read on the ATO website. So does that mean they pay me back the entire tax agent fee or a percentage of it? You will get the entire tax agent fee back. |

bossladymo1: Thanks bro. We have updated centrelink as required....I even over-estimated sef, so centrelink should paying us the arrears....but they said it is only after we lodge our tax return.
As per employing a tax agent...since our income is only from work, and we dont have any other income that complicates matters e.g Foreign income....does that not make it pretty straight forward if we lodge it ourselves? What do you think? Use Tax agent, even the agency fee is tax deductible. You will get your money back. It is always good to over estimate. It is like savings without interest. Sure, it is only when you lodge your tax return. You can get the money credited to your account within 1 week of lodging. |

Is it every one that gets a tax refund? On the ATO website, I can only see deductions for study or work related expenses. Can you shed any light on this? This article explains in details what you can and cannot claim during your tax return. https://au.pfinance.yahoo.com/money-manager/tax/article/-/28528585/tax-returns-101/ I will advise you to use a tax agent to prepare your tax return for you. It is possible to get some money back from the government through your tax return and also possible to pay government back through your tax return. Your employer will send you your Group certificate, which shows actual gross paid to you and tax paid by you. Remember, you are expected to provide rough estimate of your income to centrelink and update it from time to time as your income changes. Usually centrelink pays your family tax benefit,child-care benefit etc. based on the income estimate provided. During tax return, ATO would compare actual with what you estimated in that financial year. The exact tax you were expected to pay would be calculated based on the figure they have with all tax deductibles been considered. One could end up paying back to the government or you could get some part of your tax back from government. I have never paid to the government before. I can assure you that you would probably get large chunk of your money back because of Tax threshold off-set which is 18,000plus. And considering that you earn for just few months in the just concluded financial year. If you have private health insurance, you would get your medicare levy back as well. Everybody pays medicare levy but those that don't benefit from it will get it refunded. I mean the international residents and also permanent residents with private health insurance. |

BKings: Hi all,
I have downloaded and read the Engineer Australia's MSA booklet but still have some little confusion. Before I get assessed by EA, am I going to write career episodes and prepare a CDR and pay the application fees or how exactly should I start? @NNB2012, manmeta, bossladymo, ferdimako, all engineers and non engineers who have done it, please help. The information in the MSA booklet is all you need to write your CDR,professional summary,CV format etc. Meanwhile, check page 18-19 in the link below for CDR sample. https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/sites/default/files/shado/Membership/Stage%201%20Assessment/stage_1_guide__-_sept_2014.pdf |

bossladymo1: Which agent said getting PR from Naija is not possible? That's a big lie! Do you know how many people on this thread travelled as PRs? He should just tell you he cant do it.
What were the reasons he gave? The truth is that some of these agents do not know much about PR and they are more interested in the money they will get from prospective students. Ideally, the students are not supposed to pay them agency fees because they get commission from schools on any student that successfully make it to Australia through them. It may be difficult to give what you don't have. |

cabayes: Pls I need advise on the following questions. I have been reading the part 1 of this thread and the link to the immigration rules and I realised that the finances has been the limitation of most unsuccessful applicants. As for me I need to be clarified on the possibilities of getting a post study visa after an MSC in Australia with a one year course?
1 . will a budget of 7million naira be enough to cover all expenses + living expenses for a one year masters in geology?
2.what are my chances of switching to a work visa after my studies ? I would gladly appreciate any response that would be crucial to my decision to look else where. Only one year of study in Australia does not meet Australian study requirement hence you won't be eligible for Post study visa. You need minimum of 2 academic years study to be eligible for that. You also need to think ahead. Eventhough you get post study visa after meeting Australian study requirement, what would happen next? What are the chances of getting jobs in your field which could make you qualify for assessment which is one of the ways to the PR? If you have experience in sales, then check both SOL and CSOL to see if your occupation is there. You can start the process now. I am aware that some Universities do demand work experience in social work. What someone did was to enrol for BSc instead of MSc. It's a longer path but it pays at the end. |

My ielts result is W6.5, R8.5,L7.0 And S6.5. I read so many success stories of pte and decided to take it. It was a very wise decision considering the many tales of woe by ielts candidates. I am so happy. Next is to apply for sa sponsorship. Congrats. It is good to try something different. |

For the fact that an occupation is on CSOL does not mean it is being sponsored by any state. It is very important. What experience do you have? |

Kindly ensure you do a course that will lead to permanent residency if your intention is to live permanently in Australia. prost80: Hello All, long time i hae been out. please i need advice.
I had my IELTS Exam (Academic) in April . I missed but on one module by 0.5( L 8.5 R 6.5 W 7.0 S 7.0) so i have to do it again. I am considering other alternative like Pearson or OCE however i dont know if they can substitute IELTS. Are they any easier? Please anyone there that can point me in the right direction. do i go for retake for IELTS\? I am applying for visa 190. I am still expecting my reassessment outcome. You need to know the English requirement of your assessing body provided you have not done your assessment. For example, if they stated that you require IELTS academics only, it means you have to do that. If you only need it for migration point, then you could go for alternative like PTE-Academics which is easier to pass than IELTS. You have options of English test to do in order to gain migration points. What reassessment were you referring to? If you were referring to IELTS, you don't call for remark of Reading module. But I guess you meant your qualification/work experience assessment outcome. |

scrollmeout: Thanks everyone. Ferdimako, bossladymo, NNBB2012, manmeta, Redreact, and everyone elsei forgot to mention. I must confess that i'm more than willing to lodge. the only problem is BC has not dispatched my remarked IELTS result. I need just 0.5 to cap my WRITING, after 3 unsuccessful tries. Ive been preparing for PTE hoping that the IELTS results would come out in two weeks time
Age - 30 Education - 15 IELTS (L9, R7.5, S7, W6.5) - 0 points Work Experience - 0 points (I'll be 3 years in my nominated occupation on August 22, 2015 after which i garner 5 points, so till then 0 points)
Regarding my nominated occupation, Electronic Engineer ANZCO 233411, i can only pray that it is left untouched o! It is on NSW CSOL and the SOL and last time i checked only 600 out of 1000 applications were received this financial year. You should go for PTE exam now, you would get the result between 1-5days; if your IELTS remark is successful, you would be refunded. |

I have plenty questions oh.
Please I am counting on ur ass
What motivated you to choose the course in the first instance? Do you really want to pursue the course or you just want to travel? Are you working at the moment in Nigeria? If yes, you do need to waste your money on study that will not add to your previous experience for the purpose of migration point provided that the money paid is refundable. You could just use the money for your assessment and visa. |

After so much waiting, i'm pleased to inform you of my positive outcome from Engineers Australia. I look forward to lodging my EOI in July or August. Cheers Congrats. Please lodge NOW because anything could by 1 July,2015. God forbid, if someone occupation is removed from the list by July 1, it means nothing could be done except a different occupation is nominated. Why would you allow that? I checked an occupation on CSOL list on the Saturday and the State sponsoring the occupation and by Monday, just 2 days after, the state revised their list. Guess what, the guy is no longer eligible just within 2 days. |

chuckdee13: thank you so much. but I'm clear as to what EA requires I saw it in the MSA booklet. I'm not clear on the needs of DIBP. the quote I gave earlier was from DIBP website n it wasn't made clear that general IELTS has to be taken n u said its only general IELTS that DIBP accepts. I just really wanna make sure its still so n hasn't changed before I take the IELTS so I don't waste cash. thx so much in advance According to DIBP Migration booklet 6, it is stated that, "except your assessing body requires academic, DIBP usually requires General module". It means DIBP preference is IELTS general module eventhough they accept IELTS academics as well. As for you, I would advise you to do IELTS general since you are assessing with Engineers Australia. As for me, I did general module for both EA assessment and DIBP migration points. |

quote author=NNBB2012 post=35012431]
Go through the previous posts and read the steps to take. You do not need to apply as a student when you have all it takes to get your PR. Looking at your details, you have the following points:
Age-30points Qualification-15 Experience-10 IELTS 7 in each module?-10 points Total-65points. Please run with this and forget TAFE idea. No worries. All you need is to get all the necessary documents you would need for your PR and start the process ASAP. Your school fees would reduce drastically as a PR holder and you could eventually change your study to part-time. The benefits of PR is huge my friend, please run with it would save you alot. |

chuckdee13: now I'm officially confused,so some assessing bodies require general n others require academic IELTS...On EA I didn't see any one that is required but all along I've decided to do academic cos this is what I've done before some years back. EA accepts either IELTS academics or general. You need IELTS general for migration point. It is wise to sit for general so as not to waste money. Do I need to complete the IELTS test? All applicants applying to have their skills assessed by Engineers Australia are required to provide evidence of their English competency. Applicants are required to have achieved a minimum of Band 6 in each of the 4 modules of Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking in either the general or academic modules of the IELTS. Further information on the IELTS can be found in the booklet or at the IELTS website. |
