Some comments pls!

"He that observes the wind will not sow". Life is full of several uncertainties and risks. It is therefore important to think through before we make choices in life.
I should ask that, what motivated you in the first instance to settle for Australia amongst other countries? Definitely, you must have your reasons. I am sure nobody here will advise you to go ahead with it or not because it is your choice afterall.

Anyway,If I were in your shoe I would not back down.

Wherever it is stated in black and white that the minimum qualification is Bachelor degree or Higher, please do not provide anything less otherwise, it will be negative outcome.

The second scenario is fine where it stated that Advanced Diploma is required for the occupation. You just need to look for any state or employer that will sponsor such occupation although the latter is very rare. I will advise you should go for TRA if you have the option.

Pls if Advanced Diploma in Nigeria which is seen as equivalent to HND in Nigeria is regarded as Associate degree, can one use it to study a post graduate course? If not n if yes,pls explain how and what is obtainable

Point of correction, HND is not regarded as Associate Degree but rather Advanced Diploma. Yes, you could use it for Postgraduate certificates or Diploma which will be credited towards your Msc.

Bro abeg giv me some clue if u know any occupation that falls within or requir the bolded qualifications
Most occupations that fall within Engineering Associate are Technicians.

I will advise you to check any occupation you are eligible for on the SOL/CSOL list and know the specific requirements by checking the ANZCO code.

Alright thank you. Plz do u hv an idea how many points Engineering Associates-Advanced Diploma (2yrs) can give? Am talkin about using both ND + HND in Chemical Engineering

Bossladymo tnx, how Aussie and hustling?

You will get 10points if you were assessed as equivalent to Engineering Associate either with your ND/HND. You could use your ND provided there would be more years of experience to claim.

Please ALL

Has anyone used ND + HND (engineering) and got a positive assesment from VETASSES OR ENGINEER AUSTRALIA?
.

I can speak on Engineer Australia; it is clear what the minimum qualifications are for various cadres. Professional Engineer- 5yrs Engineering degree (B.Eng), Engineering Technologist- Associate degree (4/3yrs) and Engineering Associates-Advanced Diploma (2yrs), which Nigerian equivalence is either ND or HND.

If your qualification is ND/HND, DO NOT NOMINATE either PE or ET.

Hello Engineers in the house(NNB2012, gogochocolate et al), i have a question please. When being assessed by EA, what determines the equivalence of your Nigerian degree to either Australian bachelors degree or Associate degree? Is it the duration of your course or the content of your Career Episodes? I am concerned because i need the 15 points. Thanks

I believe this has been answered adequately by Manmeta. Really, you have nothing to fear as per the equivalence of your Nigerian degree to Australian bachelors degree. Just endeavour to cover all the requirements.

Pls ooooo is anybody in the house who can be of help...I want to confirm if a RN (Register Nurse) also Specialised in Perioperative Nursing(Theatre)from a Nigeria University Teaching Hospital with 2years working experience in the the same University Teaching Hospital is qualified for Australia Skilled Migration programme...wants to also know if d person need to upgrade to BSC before he can be qualified.waiting for your quick response...BossladyMo, Bkings,UBtech, Malkinburg, Surveyor1, Bellong, Mrnilobrawn, Wahabcoal, Nwokenna...thanks

To work here as a registered nurse you need to apply to AHPRA with your overseas trained application form.. the form link is below

http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/documents/default.aspx?record=WD11%2f5938&dbid=AP&chksum=Vu5B6IVSxjQ2tDhZpamU2Q%3d%3d

You need to do the IELTS or the OET exam before applying...now for nurses or health practitioners, OET is the easiest exam to write. It is infact the best, you write it once and you are sure of getting it right. Immigration department accepts it for PR purposes.

After application they will ask you for IELTS OR OET that's why you need to write the exam before applying...once you submit the result they will ask the nurses board in the country where you registered to verify that you registered with them, the nurses board in Nigeria or wherever you registered will send the verification directly to AHPRA, when AHPRA gets it they will send you an email with a list of universities where you can do a bridging course in Australia for 3-6 months or 1 year conversion course (which people like to do cos they can work whilst doing the conversion and pay their fees unlike the bridging course that they can't work BUT THEN AHPRA WILL TELL YOU WHICH ONE TO GO FOR) UNIVERSITY TRAINED I THINK WILL BE ASKED TO DO THE 3 MONTHS COURSE, PEOPLE WHO DO THE 1 YEAR CONVERSION COURSE ARE THOSE WHO ARE HOSPITAL TRAINED REGISTERED NURSES WITH A DIPLOMA CERTIFICATE SO AFTER THE CONVERSION THE SCHOOL GIVES THEM A BACHELOR'S CERTIFICATE AND CANCELS DIPLOMA(which is good cos then you have a bachelor degree not diploma). After the bridging course you will get your registration with AHPRA as a nurse.

Hello guys,

@NNBB2012, or anyone else with experience with Engineers Australia, i'd please like to know the turnaround time for Skilled Employment Assessment only. i would have asked them but a reply from them would take a few weeks. Thanks

Find below the info on Engineers Australia regarding that. You can always check for any information on their website.

Current assessment turnaround time
Regularly updated advice on the dates of applications under current process may be sought by sending a blank email to msastatus@engineersaustralia.org.au with the sole word 'Status' in the email subject line. You will receive an automatic response.

Generally, for:

Non-accredited qualifications – turnaround is currently about 13 weeks from the date of receipt. Note this time can be highly variable depending on numbers of incoming applications
Accredited Australian and Accord qualifications – currently about 11 weeks.
Please do NOT contact Engineers Australia within these timeframes, as it will further delay processing times for all applications.

Please I want to get an info from the skilled migration gurus in the house. For someone who studied Mechanical Engineering but now works in the telecoms industry as a field Engineer, can he nominate as Telecomunications Field Engineer, or will his course of study affect his assestment?

Yes you will get positive assessment from Engineers Australia but not in your nominated skill rather in another skill e.g Engineering Technologist. A friend with similar scenario as yours got a positive assessment but was given " Engineering Technologist", which was different from Telecommunication Field Engineer he nominated. He studied Mechanical Engineering from Unilag and had more than 10years of experience in Telecom industry as a Field Enigieer.

@all, i finally got my ielts result today. L(8.5) R(9.0) W(7) S(6.5) Overall Band Score 8.0. Big disappointment cos it is not useful for its intended purpose. I need all bands to be a minimum of 7.0. The good part is that i don't need it until about 6 months time so i'm currently weighing my options.

I think the poor Speaking score might be down to my relatively short prep time, under 3 weeks and i was busy with other things at the same time.

Now i have a better idea what Ferdimako was going thru all this while.

You have a commendable result at first attempt despite short period of preparation. In fact, you got good band in the modules others consider very tough to pass. You need to practice both your speaking and writing well so as to achieve good band in them. As a matter of fact, they are the easiest modules to pass but you need to master the skills.

It is very clear from the job description and qualification required for occupation in question, that you need AQ certificate 3 or 4 or relevant experience. She cannot use her Bsc Accounting as it is not relevant.
How many years of experience does your wife has in Accounting? She might be able to do assessment. If she needs extra points for immigration purpose, she could sit for IELTS and aim at 7/8 in each band.

Hi all,

I'm new to the thread. Have read thru and found it very interesting, helpful, & inspiring. I have aspirations as most of us do in here and congrats to all who have recorded successes in one way or the other. I'm aspiring towards subclass 189 or 190. Counting on your experiences as regards to vetting my lil profile below:

Nominated occupation: Internal Auditor
Assessing Body: VETASSESS (Waiting till June to complete 9 years of experience before applying)
Qualifications: BSc Accountancy 2003, ACCA Certificate in international auditing 2015, Member Institute of internal auditors - Nigeria(certification in view)
Years of Experience: 8 years in same organization, (June 2015 will make it 9 years.)
Documents: Will be as required on VETASSESS website.

From above, what are my chances of a positive response on a scale of 1 - 10? Thanks for anticipated response(s).

You stand a very good chance of getting positive assessment. You do not need to wait till June since it is the same points that both 8yrs and 9yrs of experience will fetch you; you can start the process now.

I will advise you to google the ANZCO code (ABS) of the relevant occupations on the SOL to know the one that perfectly matches your experience and qualification. You should be fine and possibly you might not need IELTS, provided that you are between 25-32 except if your assessing body requires it for assessment.

Sorry just reading this now. So in essence I can apply get a PR and if I get a positive outcome from another body Engineers Australia I can work as an Engr in Oz, only the PR status I got as a Met/Mat technician will still hold sway for 2years if 190 visa. Right?

You do not need Assessment from Engineers Australia to be able to work as an Engineer in Australia once you have your PR. If you already got your positive assessment from elsewhere, and you are very sure you have the required-60points, then go ahead and apply for your visa. You are not tied to the skill you nominated in Australia. It is purely for migration purpose.

Hello it's been a while I have been here. I have sent my application for a reassessment at vetassess for a Metallurgical and Materials Technician. I am expecting the outcome to be positive. However, I want to know if It is possible to apply to another body Engineers Australia as a Materials Engineering candidate. The reason I ask is if I get a positive assessment from vetassess, does that mean I can't apply to Engineers Australia? Or is my visa locked to only Met & Mat technician in Oz? Any Nigerian Engineer in OZ enlighten me please?

Your visa is not locked to any particular nominated skill. Once you get your PR, you can decide to go for any job. It is your PR status that will be considered.

Meanwhile, you could also try Engineers Australia assessment if you had enough fund to play with, otherwise, there is no need for that.

Please I have gotten my outcome and it was NEGATIVE. I was assessed for the job of Internal Auditor (ANZSCO 221214). I am a Chartered Accountant (ICAN) and my first degree was in Engineering. I worked in an audit firm as an audit trainee before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. After I qualified, I moved to a bank as an Internal Auditor, of which I still working. I have, however, written back to VETASSESS to complain about the NEGATIVE outcome. However, what caught me my attention (the most) from the report is the statement below.

Membership Certificate completed in xxxx at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, LAGOS, Nigeria cannot be recognised by VETASSESS as:
At the time of award the awarding institute and/or the qualification was not recognised by the relevant authorities in the country of award

Field of study Accountancy is highly relevant.

In addition, they claimed that my work experience in the Audit firm and the bank as an Internal Auditor

'does not meet the minimum requirements for this occupation as the employment does not follow a qualification at the required level in
a highly relevant field'.

My question is this - IS ICAN NOT RECOGNIZED BY VETASSESS? PLEASE WHAT IS THE BEST WAY FORWARD?

Sorry for the negative outcome of your assessment. For you to get positive outcome in most of the nominated occupations, it is expected that your first degree should be related except where it categorically stated that experience can substitude.

For example,no matter how well experienced you might be in Engineering and if you did not have first degree/Diploma in Engineering, you would never get positive assessment from Engineers Australia. It is always wise to check the ANZCO code on ABS website to know the job description and the relevant qualification required before applying for assessment at all. All you need is to just google the code.

I will advise whoever wants to study in Australia, with the intention of living here permanently to always consider occupation that is either on SOL/CSOL list except by marriage to an Australian. If you had no previous experience in any occupation that is on the list, then you must study a course that is related to any occupation on the SOL/CSOL list. So, please do not come to Australia to waste your time with the mindset that after my study I will get PR. Your course has to be on the list and you must also meet the required points (60points) except by marriage to any Australian PR holder or citizen.

Good day people, i have been patiently waiting for a response. Can someone pls respond?

You can check the SOL list to know your ANZCO code. You must have related experience in your nominated occupation. Visit Australia Engineer website and check the right format for your CDR. CDR is basically your own work experience on your job, academic project or any project you have carried out. Your own involvement on the project etc. Read the guideline carefully on Australia Engineer website. Don't stress yourself as such on the CDR, just address only the segments you are suppose to cover and you will be fine.

I worked as a radio and network engineer installing radios and connecting banks branches to their headquarters for a year. i have spent the last 6 years doing core network engineering (Mobile Switching Centre core engineer) interconnecting various network providers, integrating new network elements (BSCs, RNC and Node B) to MSCs. I have attended trainings on packet switching in a mobile environment (Serving GPRS support Nodes, Gateway GPRS support nodes). I have also done a bit of network dimensioning and planning to establish network capacity requirements and network performance analysis with respect to Key Performance Index measurement. What Certification would you advise me to get. What equipment vendors are popular in the Australia telecoms industry.

Sincerely, I would say you have an impressive experience in RF,RAN and CORE. However, it is unfortunate that much is not happening at the moment in these areas. You can check the major jobsites as suggested ealier on to confirm this.

I would advise you to get skills in the area of Transmission,IP/MPLS,Fibre Planning,Splicing and FTTH installation, so as to be competitive and not keep on searching. Also think more of Networking and Network administration.

You can google the websites of the major players in Telco such as Telstra,Optus,Vodafone and NBNco. There are other vendors which you can also check such as Ericsson,Huawei,Alcatel,Nokia-Siemen,Tellabs,Kordia, Downer,Visionstream etc.

Above all, have an optimistic view as you plan your journey. Do have an open mind to start from little beginning and also commit things unto God's hand. He will direct your path.

Good on you bro! Well, like I rightly said earlier, experience is the key thing here. If you are IT inclined, you could explore that area as well.
Of course, oil and gas etc. are good sectors you could explore.
What is your area of strength in Telco?

Please is it possible for one with a 189 Visa to do a short course in engineering in Australia and would i pay the local rates. I am looking at my options and would like someone in Australia to please update me on how big the telecoms industry in Australia and the necessary certification i should acquire in engineering before moving over to Australia.

Yes, It is possible to do courses in the University or Tafe and pay at subsidised rates as PR holder. Australia is a country where emphasis is not much on certifications but rather your experience in your profession. However, if you could lay your hands on any basic certifications/trainings (CCNA,PMP,etc) before you arrive will be better otherwise you might end up paying huge amount if you were to do some of these trainings here. Again, what you need mostly is your experience. Even with your experience, you will still need to crack the nut of local experience here. Employers here don't joke with that.

As per the Telco industry, well I must tell you the reality here at the moment. It is not all that big because the population of Australia is about 24million, so you do the maths. And sadly enough, it is flooded and highly competitive. Sometimes, It takes highlevel of networking to breakthrough. You will be competing with mostly Indians, Srilankans,Pakistanis and Bangladesh professionals. And these people already have insiders who can easily refer them. Employers sometimes prefer that because they don't want to waste time in recruiting right candidates.

Check the major job websites (seek.com.au and indeed.com.au) for advertised jobs and start tailoring your CV to skills set required. You will need to work hard on your CVs. Nigerian CV's style doesn't work here as such. Emphasis is mainly on what you have done and what you can do.
You need to also prepare your mind to stay in the cities such as Sydney,Melbourne,Perth and Brisbane if you really want Telco job.

Wishing you goodluck in your relocation and job search.

You are right! It is equivalent to Australian Advanced Diploma, which will earn you 10points for the purpose of migration. What is the big deal in the cost of the project the church wants to embark on? The church is not forcing anybody to give towards this project. Giving must be done willingly, and the people that know the important of it do key in to it. Solomon, as King gave 22,000 Oxen and 100,000 sheep burnt offerings in a single day (1 Kings 8:63). If it were in our present day, let us assume, an Ox cost 100,000naira and a sheep cost 50,000naira;the total amount would be around 7.2 billion naira just as an offering in a single day.

If South Africa could be exempted in most cases, why not Nigeria? Nonetheless, one shouldn't be quick to blame them. The standard in our system has plummeted too. No, if you don't want him to. An adult dependant must show proof that they're at least knowledgeable in the use of the English language. Otherwise, they may have to pay an exorbitant amount (thousands of dollars) to the AMES. In other not to pay this amount, they may do IELTS with a minimum score of 4.5 (I hope I'm correct) or show proof they've studied in English for a long while. In my case, my wife was the dependant. She didn't take IELTS but we sent her pry school and WAEC results, BSc cert. and academic transcripts to show she studied in English all her life.

Good to know that manmeta. In my case my wife sat for ielts exam to avoid paying the second installment. I never knew that I could have avoided that by just submitting proof that she had her education in English. I also read recently on this forum that Nigerian could submit CDR for assessment to EA without ielts result. It's interesting that things are changing fast.
