bevybay: i am trying to relocate to Australia with my partner on Skilled - Independent (Subclass 189) (Permanent) Visa.but my EOI result was
I do not have a skills assessment
and my English language ability is below the level needed for this visa subclass
I am a civil Engineer.which is on their SOL.How can i go about my skill assessment.
How do i go about the skills assessment and the IELTS test for English.
thanks.

Are you the main applicant? If Yes, you need assessment.Your assessment will be done by Engineers Australia. You need to check EA website for the requirement. If otherwise you don't need skill assessment except if your partner needs to claim point from you. But generally for partners who are just secondary applicants need to have at least 4.5 in IELTS in order not to pay the second installment.

Better still you could just provide your details here and you'll be guided. I mean your age, exact course you studied, years of post graduation experience and your ielts result.

Introduction of a Biometrics Trial in Nigeria

On 29 July 2013, we will commence a trial collecting biometrics (fingerprints and facial image) from visa applicants in Nigeria. Visa applicants, regardless of their nationality, who are physically in Nigeria when applying for a visa to enter Australia, will need to provide their biometrics unless they are exempted or excluded from doing so by our policy.

We have an existing agreement with VFS Global to provide Australian visa lodgement services in Nigeria at Australian Visa Application Centres (AVAC) in Abuja and Lagos. From July 2013, we will commence collecting biometrics at the existing centres.

Show allHide all

Visa application lodgement and the biometric data collection process

From July 2013, visa applicants in Nigeria and their dependants who present in person at one of the existing Australian Visa Application Centres (AVAC) to lodge their application will be asked to provide their biometrics at the same time. We encourage this option as the most efficient and cost effective biometric submission option for visa applicants in Nigeria.

Alternatively visa applicants in Nigeria who submit their application by mail will be sent a requirement letter asking them and any dependant applicants to attend one of the Visa Application Centres in person to provide their biometrics while the case is being assessed. This option may mean the visa assessment process takes longer to finalise.

All family members included in a visa application need to attend in person together to have their biometrics collected at the same time.

What is Biometrics

The term 'biometrics' commonly refers to a measurable physical characteristic or personal behavioural trait that is unique to an individual such as fingerprints, facial structure, the iris or a person's voice. Biometric data is an important tool in identity management globally, helping countries reduce fraud and integrity risks. France, Ireland, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and countries in the Middle East have already introduced biometrics to improve visa and border checking processes.

Biometrics are collected at the AVACs using a quick, discreet and non-intrusive process that captures a facial image with a digital camera and a 10-digit fingerprint scan with a digital finger scanner.

The offshore biometrics program

The biometrics in visa processing offshore program is an Australian Government initiative that introduces biometric collection into the offshore visa application process. Over the past three years we have been introducing biometric data collection into the offshore visa lodgement and assessment processes as part of a whole of government strategic response to identity management.

The offshore biometrics program began in December 2010 and has now been rolled out to 19 countries: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Visa subclasses included in the biometrics program

For a list of visa subclasses that require biometrics to be collected from visa applicants, see the inclusions list on our website.
See: Biometrics collection outside Australia - list of included visa subclasses

Who is exempted or excluded from providing biometrics

Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens are excluded from biometrics collection.

We will not collect fingerprints from applicants who are under 15 years of age, incapable persons, or those physically unable to provide a fingerprint scan. They will still need to provide a digitial facial photograph.

If an applicant is an incapable person or under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian will be asked to give consent and be present when biometrics are collected.

evanstical: According to the link NNBB2012 posted, for skills assessment I have to pay AuD$1000 and later pay AUD $3060 for PR lodging application. Not really cheap ooo and process big, or I am missing something.

You need to zero your mind to overcome all the challenges you might face on this. The money involves is incomparable with the benefits afterall.

Every assessing body has their charging fees. For example Engineers Australia charges 600AUd for non-accredited qualification (Nigeria etc.). This fee is separate from what immigration fee is. The new immigration fee requires every person on application to pay. Main applicant will pay 3060; spouse-1530 and each child will pay 755 or so.

A12345: aunty Jenny manmeta et al pls i will want you to enlighten me. Is skill assesment more about about academic/prof.qualification or d job itself. Reason being that i have a UK adv. diploma in procurement & supply since 2008 (also recognise in Aussie)

Skill assessment is way of ensuring your academics qualification and work experience match the nominated skill in Australia. You need to check the requirement of your assessing body in Australia. Check your nominated skill to know your assessing body. Since you have Uk qualification you might only need to submit some documents and Ielts may not be required for assessment in your case. But mind you, your post graduation experience will be used. In your case, experience from 2008 till date will be calculated.

Education / Re: The Problem With HND Certificate – By Femi Olabisi by NNBB2012: 2:39am On Feb 22, 2013
The difference between Polytechnic and University is crystal clear. Even more than what the writer highlighted. In the area of academic structure there is difference. Although I strongly believed that the objectives of establishing these institutions were obvious in the past, I must point out that these laudable objectives have been distorted. For instance, Polytechnic is supposed to purely run technology based programmes but what do we see today, they run management and social sciences. Generally, I think the Nigeria education curriculum needs total ovehauling. It is disheartening to see that our education is not strutured towards skills acquisition. It is believed that after graduating from University or Polytechnic one should be able to apply what one has learnt but the reality today is different.

Personally, I think the Polytechnic education should be scrapped but better still be upgraded to University of Technology. Even the countries that once had them have already upgraded them to Univerties. There should be more well equipped and funded universities to accommodate more prospective students. The Lecturers as well should be well equipped. This is only way I think we can compete favourably with other countries of the world in this century. The world has really gone beyond where we are now at the moment. Nigeria qualifications are not directly recognised abroad. It has to be subjected to serious test and scrutiny, whereas, SA qualifications are recognised. We call ourselves giant of Africa, our education should be seen at the fore-front. A Nigeria trained doctor, if you must practice abroad, you have to be subjected to rigorous examinations. The same thing goes for other professions.or instance if you must migrate to Australia an HND holder, you will be considered as some who have Advance diploma/OND, which will earn you only 10 points but whereas,University degree earn 15points. That 5 points means alot. Who can we blame for this, when none of our Universities is in the list of the best 1000 universities in the whole world? This calls for concern.

My piece of advice for any HND holder is to upgrade himself/herself because this issue will still resurface at one point or the other later. For example, either to go back and obtain degree in University (locally or foreign) or to obtain certifications in your chosen profession so as to compete favourably. There some Universities in the UK that do Top-up programmes. Personally, I don't buy the idea of the PgD stuff, it is purely a waste of time and money. Also, some universities abroad do take HND holders directly for Master's programmes.

Politics / Re: Churches, Mosques Should Pay Tax – Falana by NNBB2012: 10:35am On Nov 27, 2012
Religion organizations are non-profit organization. Why on earth should they be made to pay tax? Even the tax paid by other citizens, what have they done with it? It is the responsibility of the government to provide basic amenities for the people. Whatever religion organizations are doing are mere social responsibilities. So, the argument is baseless. Even in developed world, where things are working, they don't pay tax. As a matter of fact,in one developed country that i'm aware of, you could actually claim certain percentage of your donations made to any religion organization back from government through tax return.

I'm a convenant partner and I pay mine in dollar. I'm really delighted that I'm doing that. A carnal man can not and can never understand the things of the Spirit. Over the ages, Men and women have supported God's work, men of God and their ministries. Our dispensation can not be an exception. Why are you disturbed because some people that have understanding of this are paying? Why not just keep your mouth shut, if you don't understand the things of the spirit? My prayer is that God will open your eyes to see the light.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Am Tired Of Life by NNBB2012: 12:53pm On Oct 08, 2012
Have you thought of travelling abroad on skilled migration scheme such as Australia and Canada? You have good experience, qualification and age is still on your side, so you could give it a trial.

If you are interested, you could read more about the immigration scheme on the website-www.immi.gov.au. You don't need any intermediary for the process except if you wish. It takes time but at least you will eventually get it. You just need to follow the due process. You need to score good band in IELTS, prepare your documents for assessment and your credentials. As a permanent residence, you are entitled to live, work and school. Your kids can access free education up to Secondary school in Public schools, Medicare and your citizenship after 4yrs etc. As a citizen, you and your family members could access education in University to any level on scholarship.

God will settle you.

This is a rare judgement in recent time. I hope this will definitely serve as deterrent to trigger-happy policemen that we have in that country. So many peoples’ lives have been wasted due to their carelessness.
Imagine, a police officer stopped my official vehicle sometimes ago around Ketu, asking for the roadworthiness of a new car. After wasting our time, I responded by telling him that a new car doesn't require roadworthiness. He continued his intense argument on his demand, which I try to counter him as well; He concluded by saying he would shoot me just because spoke against him. I had to calm down least one trigger-happy man cut short my life.
Most of them are stack illiterates. God will purge of dear country of these evil men in uniform

Travel / Re: Why Is UK So Expensive??? by NNBB2012: 11:57pm On Jul 29, 2012
London is the no 25th of the most expensive cities in the world. You can't compare the cost of living there with places such as: Tokyo,Luanda,Osaka,Sydney,Melbourne etc. And don't ever make the mistake of comparing things over there with Nigeria. Each time you do that, you will just be giving yourself unnecessary headache.
Politics / Re: 3-year Jail Term Awaits One-way Traffic Offenders In Lagos. by NNBB2012: 11:16am On Jul 14, 2012
This is a good development in the right direction, however, I don't support the jail term but rather, heavy fine. Also, the state government could go ahead and install safety cameras all over the state. This could be used to track traffic offenders, provided that their vehicle registration is tied to their names, account, and their addresses.

Career / Re: HND Accountancy Vs BSc Accounting by NNBB2012: 1:45am On Jul 06, 2012
I think by now Nigeria government should scrap Polytechnic. HND certificate is not recognised in Nigeria and even abroad. I can only think of some schools in SA and UK, that will take HND directly for either Masters or Top-up programmes. So, why are they still running programmes in the Polytechnics? Imagine in Australia, HND graduate in Nigeria is regarded as Technician, not even Technologist. The people regarded as technologist are those that hold B.Tech degrees.

The best thing to do is to run the programme as it is being run in SA; 3yrs of National Diploma and proceed to 2yrs of Bachelor Degree.

Government needs to review the curricullum to meet up with international standards.Even our so-called Universities in Nigeria, I doubt if any of them is among the list of 500 best Universities in the world. Most of our equipment, books and even lecturers are obsolete so to say. They need to be updated. We need to wake up, if we really need to compete with the wolrd.
