Yes, a changed perception helps. He might one day marry an Igbo girl. Many NL members because of this post may also marry Igbo. Many before this article would have sworn never to marry Igbo.
Perception matters. It does epp. What he has done is to endorse the Igbos. And it is endorsement given by a non Igbo, you should be pleased (Read Proverbs 27:2). i beg your pardon. marry Igbo? to whose favour? People are privileged to marry from igboland not the other way. Igbo's need no validity from people, their uniqueness is self evident. |

Politics › Re: Onitsha Or Enugu Can Be Turned Into Lagos Or Dubai By Tolerance by Noneroone(m): 4:21pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
someone actually wrote Lagos in the same sentence as Dubai. If we have a place like Lagos in Biafra then Biafra would have failed. Lagos is just a crowded metropolis controlled by the federal govt, the Igbo business men and expatriates. Despite the preferential care from the federal govt, the huge revenue from excessive tax and other sources, the city is still very poorly governed at local level with mountain of domestic and international debts. Compare Lagos GDP with another city with its population and you'll be left shocked. compare infrastructure like housing, transportation, water supply, power supply and security in Lagos with its population and you discover Lagos doesn't stand a chance with any city in the world. Should anything happen to Nigeria with its FG, the Igbos will be out of the picture, expatriates will relocate too to a more business friendly environment, your Lagos will be cut to size like Ibadan the former western region capital. I like abuja despite the fact it is being sustained solely by Federal govt/oil revenue. it has more livable neighborhoods than lagos whose good neighborhoods are just a fraction of the entire crowded city.
Lagos is not the type of city I would wish for the Eastern region. Biafra should be decentralised. Having a large number of thriving cities with small or optimum population and large GDP. Onitsha, Aba and PH should decongested while Enugu, owerri, Asaba, Calabar, Uyo, Awka, Abakiliki, Nnewi, Umuahia etc should develop simultaneously with High GDP, open ports, airports, good roads, industries, power supply etc |

kikero: Well, the same terrorism is frustrating Buhari and frustrated Yaradua beforehand.
And the South too has its own long list of security issues.
The problem is job scarcity exacerbated by an import dependent economy which stifles job creation and makes education unattractive. More idle youths, food for Boko you didn't answer my first questions. |

kikero: It isn't.
The political elite is made up of Muslims and Christians.
The civil service is made up of Muslims and Christians
Sharia law does not apply all over the country, and even in places where it applies it's not that seriously enforced.
Plus the reason why Buhari wins is because the potential opposition to him is divided.
And because we are a resource dependent economy, job creation is stifled, which means that competition for jobs in the civil service is tight, which leads to accusations of bias. If our economy was industrial, that won't be happening Who controls the executive, legislature, judiciary, military and police? Muslims or Christians? answer me. The only time we had a break from the fulani Muslim oligarchs was Jonathan era and we all saw how terrorism was employed by them to frustrate him. |

kikero Nigeria was and isn't a 'Muslim controlled state. The Nigerian Army was majority Christian (60% by 1967, even after the Ibo exodus), Gowon was a Christian and a devout one at that. Muslim Nigeria fighing against christian Bafra was a product of Biafran propaganda. this is a big lie. |

investnow2013: The govt is falling that's why the Church is almost in every business and in control of some key sectors in the state!!! The church has failed too even more than the govt. Ask those who are employed in church owned establishments their working condition despite huge profit the church makes. The church should be at the forefront in advocating for social security, minimum wage etc but you won't hear that from them except because they know they are guilty as well. If the govt fails, the responsibility falls on the people to demand for change or hold them to account not the church. |
Politics › Re: Anambra State Economy: The Role Of The Church! by Noneroone(m): 4:46pm On Jul 18, 2020 |
The Church now operate like a business and should be kept away from public administration. The handing over of schools to mission should either be reversed or allowed under strict guidelines from the govt. The people elected the govt not the church. As such, the govt cannot hand huge some of public money to an institution that is not mandated by the law to account for them. |

Dansuqi: Sorry sir.that of imo is different.go back to the first page and read what kahal posted.the case was purely between nwosu and AA.APC and uzodinma were never parties to that case and it is a universal principle that judgment cannot be binding on someone that was never a party to that case.the case was purely about double candidature.when ihedioha lawyers raised this issue, the court answered them.
Mind you after the imo APC primaries, nwosu went to court and it declared that uzodinma was APC candidate.it was never appealed so this matter ended there at the high court.the supreme court ruling is invalid and null to the extent where it concerns APC.it is just like the supreme court ruling today that buhari is not qualified when the electoral calendar for 2019 elections has passed and when there was no originating case from the lower courts. what is the position of the law concerning who the IMO APC candidate in the 2019 election is? If the high court rules based on the the supreme court judgement which made nwosu the candidate, it mean APC participation in the said election is null and PDP candidate ihedioha must be sworn in. |

Foreign Affairs › Cameroon Hold Peace Talks With Separatist Group by Noneroone(op): 7:08pm On Jul 06, 2020 |
Representatives of Cameroon's government have held talks with the main leaders of an Anglophone separatist group for the first time since the conflict began in 2017, a separatist leader and two security sources said on Friday.
Julius Ayuk Tabe, the most prominent separatist leader who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for charges including "terrorism", said the meeting took place on Thursday to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire.
Violence broke out in 2017 following a government crackdown on peaceful protests by Anglophone lawyers and teachers who complained of being marginalised by the French-speaking majority.
The fighting has since caused more than 3,000 deaths and forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.
Last year, Switzerland mediated talks between the government and exiled separatist leaders, but those leaders are considered less influential than Tabe and the discussions did not produce any significant results.
Tabe, the self-declared president of an independent English-speaking state the separatists call Ambazonia, said nine separatist leaders participated in the meeting, which followed calls by the United Nations for a ceasefire.
A look at Cameroon's language divide (4:00)
"Be reassured that we remain committed to the restoration of the independence of the homeland," he said in a statement, without providing further details about the substance of the talks.
The nine leaders are self-declared members of the "interim government of Ambazonia". All are in jail in the capital Yaounde, sentenced last August on "terrorism" charges.
Government officials were not immediately available for comment.
One of the security sources who confirmed the meeting said the authorities' openness to talks reflected the fatigue of the population after three years of conflict that have failed to produce a clear victor.
"This war has made us see the resilience of the Anglophones from an ideological point of view," he said, adding that international pressure to end the conflict had also forced the government's hand.
Cameroon's linguistic divide harks back to the end of World War I, when the League of Nations divided the former German colony of Kamerun between the allied French and British victors.
'Sustainable peace'
President Paul Biya's government has previously refused to negotiate with the separatist leaders.
It held a "national dialogue" on the conflict in October, but most separatist groups refused to participate, many pointing out their leaders remained in prison.
In early March, the UN called for a ceasefire in the two regions, in part to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.
But the appeal went unheeded, with military operations even seeming to intensify - the army said it killed 24 separatists in two raids last month.
The sudden softening towards negotiation therefore took many by surprise.
In the statement sent to AFP news agency, the separatist leaders said "no war has ever been wrapped up in the battlefield" and that "real, sustainable peace and independence are a product of the negotiation table".
The statement, which is addressed to separatist armed fighters, said the Thursday meeting was "an initial confidence-building procedure" and that the leaders' position on a negotiated ceasefire was made "clear and unambiguous" to the government.
Cameroon's Anglophone protest movement is fragmented into several groups, with the most radical not recognising the "interim government of Ambazonia" and refusing any discussion with the government. |
