awesomeJ: I prefer to believe that.
Only short sighted people would prefer to believe a smaller figure and then start thinking they've arrived when their portfolio hits N50m.
With my thinking, even at N200m , I know i'm only just starting cos I need to catch Agba before he reaches N10bn.
That thinking only helps me stay motivated, why do you think there's a downside to it?
There are people who feel intimidated or get jealous when they realize that people here have portfolios over N50bn.
I'm not one of such people, I don't suffer from such foolishness.
If pa Emma reads that someone here has N50bn, don't you think he will realize he still need to grow his current N5bn portfolio? All this one na story.... Make I send Aza |

awesomeJ: The average portfolio size here is perhaps N500m.
My current portfolio is less than that.
Something never ceases to amaze me:
Why guys like you with portfolios in billions or at least hundreds of millions will see 200k as money when it shoould simply be a rounding error on your account.
I just don't understand.
The least amount that should even make you guys think of figures being brandished should be at least tens of millions.
I just never understand.
Just like at my current portfolio level, someone mentioning 20k wouldn't be a relevant amount to me. Guy, no go believe enter bush oh!! Anyway all this your talk na to deflect from the main matter...MAKE I SEND AZA |

awesomeJ: I held 19107 units of EUNISELL at N149.95 at the start of today's session.
I panicked sell everything at 135 only for someone to come clear all the offers at the last minute and close the stock at N158
By selling too early I lost N23 per share making a total of around 439k in just one stock in a single day.
Another 100k loss on Cadbury and losses on other tickers too.
Am I bothered?
I would be if I was a beginner like I was in 2020.
Is my portfolio down by 700k today?
Not quite.
I'm still up over 200k on a day as funny as this. 😁😎
These figures are significant given that my current portfolio isn't so large. Una get money for this place oh. Bros make I send aza? |

pluto09: We are still very much dependent on crude oil as a source of foreign exchange earnings. A sustained downward movement in oil price will be a big challenge for naira stability. Not as big a challenge it would have been if we were importing and subsidizing fuel. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by nosa2(m): 2:35pm On Jan 07 |
mikeapollo: The govt stopped subsidies since 2023, but they have been borrowing like crazy to finance the budget with no concrete results to show. Ask yourself why they have borrowed trillions of naira when there is no subsidies, and still nothing to show? The money doesn't need to be used judiciously for the currency to be stable. |

Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by nosa2(m): 2:26pm On Jan 07 |
mikeapollo: Have you thought about policy decisions in the US that could strengthen or weaken the dollars against the naira? That is not under your control. The issues you listed can be worked on without the naira being weakened. e.g. Nigeria had a stronger naira with national oil refineries working in the 1970-80s. State ownership of assets is not the problem; corruption and mismanagement is. Aramco is owned by Saudi Govt and they are doing fine. Don't demonize subsidies. Every country on this earth gives some form of subsidies to their citizens. You are right but since we have been unable to find a solution to corruption then we are best using a development model that adds it as a factor. With regards to external policy, yes that too is a factor. So add it as a potential risk. So unless those things happen Naira will not collapse |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by nosa2(m): 2:05pm On Jan 07 |
mikeapollo: Nothing is ''gone'' in the long-run. How many regime policy somersaults and inconsistencies have you witnessed and fallen victim to in Nigeria? Naira was about N200 just 10 years ago. Never downplay a relatively stable currency like US dollars for an unstable naira, especially in a country that relies heavily on oil prices which may experience a drop and put pressure on the currency. A new govt may come with something better or worse than what we have now The only thing that will make dollars attractive over the Naira in the next 10 years would be if a government comes in and reinstates fuel subsidy, fixes the exchange rate and nationalizes all refineries. If these don't happen then Naira will not witness the kind of collapse you referenced. |

mikeapollo: Possibly gunning for a bigger stake in Dangote Refinery; paying dollar dividends would greatly enhance the trading price on NGX The time for Nigerians holding dollars is gone. The structure of the economy has changed so much that the best thing any Nigerian can do for the foreseeable future is to focus on increasing their Naira income |

The fundamentally unsound stocks/sectors are giving back those gains but the undervalued sectors seem to be holding on to the gains they made. As to asking my neighbor about the economy, everybody (including myself) will complain that things are bad but are they really bad? it could be better but I feel I am doing better than I was two years ago. Inflation has stopped, some prices are actually coming down. My income has gone up. I mean we are not in heaven but make we no lie things are improving albeit gradually . |

mikeapollo: But selecting or picking maximum of 5 stocks from different sectors is no guarantee for achieving that goal; An investor may still be able to beat the index by having more than 5 stocks. Don't you think so? Mathematically speaking the more stocks you have the more your performance will mirror the index |

Sometimes when we respond, we do so for the benefit of others who lack market knowledge and don't have your experience. Make dem no follow you jump blindly into the abyss without backup parachute. Nothing like sophisticated investor oh. I just know that the consensus opinion is seldom right. So I get excited when I am going against the grain. Though I am also very cautious because sometimes I could be wrong and may not be seeing what the consensus is seeing. If we were having this conversation on my site I would be more inclined to go into a detailed back and forth but the problem with this forum is that conversations get lost in the many messages and as such are difficult to reference. so to dey get serious conversation here dey weak me because it is hard to reference for research purposes |

HesInMe: "Paper profit" is a loose term. Better to say that non-fee bank profits are more subject to revisions than those of other operating companies. It's the nature of the business. All things being equal, N1 in Nestle profit is worth more than N1 in Zenith profit, and their shares are valued accordingly.
Look elsewhere if you still dey vex: JP Morgan, a too-big-to-fail commercial bank in the US, also trades at a discount to the S&P 500.
But me too I bought some bank shares when they dipped last year sha... I understand your points but I don't agree. Anyway let's focus on making money |

Then do the plus, minus, divide and multiplication of the figures. .Not looking down on his efforts oh.. The bottom line is he is cashing out from his efforts from some segment of the investment world On personal reasons I hardly click on his post..lol There is no need to guess/argue on his earnings. You can check here https://socialblade.com/youtube/calculatorFrom the site you can see that he earns $0.12 - $1.99 Estimated Daily Earnings $3.73 - $59.64 Estimated Monthly Earnings $44.73 - $715.68 Estimated Yearly Earnings Based on his video on UACN I invested and made 16%, purely based on that recommendation. I didn't do the analysis or anything like that. I woke up, saw the video and just took a punt. Look at my post history I am sure I posted about it. That approx 16% I made after fees is several times more than the top end of his annual income. Doing this sort of analysis for views is a service to humanity. It is certainly not cashing out. I strongly advise him to continue though because this is the best CV any one can have (so long you know what you are talking about) |
