Education / Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Bringing Political Experience And Legal Exper by Notjustzaki(m): 9:13am On Sep 09, 2021
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Bringing Political Experience and Legal Expertise to Governance

Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation. Gov Wike is well prepared for this task, little wonder the record breaking achievements with slim allocation from our central dining table (Federal allocation)

Governor Wike has over time said he prepared for the very exalted office and his emergence was not by chance or a wishful thinking but a product of commitment, focus and hardwork.

This man is ahead of his time, always taking pragmatic steps to bring about economic stabilisation of the State while championing the cause for national economic restructuring.

The struggle is no longer through the usual Gun battle like the days of Niger Delta resource control agitation but through the Law of the Land(the Constitution) and we can see the results already shaking the faulty foundation of our parasitic marriage.

Only a man that is not a regular Abuja midnight Governor can take this dogged and purpose driven steps for the economic emancipation of his people.

The Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) is running from pillar to post looking for shortcut to continue the economic bondage of some states while feeding others fat, enough of robbing peter to pay lazy paul

According to Gov Wike, you can't destroy beer in your state in the name of sharia yet share from VAT on beer from other states. It is hypocrisy.
Free money has promoted laziness. If you want to be a governor grow your state's economy.

If we must support financial autonomy for the judiciary and the legislature then states must be allowed to function optimally. Federating states must be allowed to collect VAT.

Every patriotic Rivers man should jettison partisan politics and support the Governor for this economic freedom.

Education / Safeguarding The Garden City Against Flooding: A Clarion Call./soye Maxwell by Notjustzaki(m): 7:59pm On Sep 05, 2021
Safeguarding The Garden City Against Flooding: A Clarion Call.

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet, warned of slim chances of flash floods across 34 states of the federation including Rivers State.

As we all know, the main cause of flooding in Nigeria is heavy rains. Although this may be natural, it is almost impossible to stop it, especially when global warming puts the world at risk as a result of the continues depletion of the Ozone layer due to activities of greenhouse gases. I can tell you for free as an environmentalist that most of the other factors that cause flooding are man-made (anthropogenic factors) and therefore can be avoided.

Over the years it has been an annual tradition by the Rivers State Government through the ministry of works to carryout steady desilting of our canals for effective flow of water to mitigate for the perennial flood in parts of our city and has resulted to the instantaneous drying up of the flash floods.

As can be seen in some parts of the state where the state government has constructed new drainage system while opening up and expanding existing drains in areas like the popular NTA Road, Old GRA and the disilting of most part of the drainage system in Mile 4 Ikwerre road down and the Ntawogba creek.

Safeguarding our city is a collective thing as citizens. How do we see people building in waterways or dumping garbage down drains? Let us support the government by cleaning out our drains and properly disposing our waste. With unity of purpose we can achieve a flood free state

“Floods are ‘acts of God,’ but flood losses are largely acts of man.”
Gilbert White.

Rivers State is our state, let's collectively make it better.

Education / Demolition Of Trans-amadi Slaughter Market Long-overdue -/-soye Maxwell by Notjustzaki(m): 3:34pm On Sep 02, 2021
Demolition of Trans-amadi Slaughter Market Long-overdue

Exactly a month ago during the state Executive Council meeting headed by the Executive Governor of Rivers State, approval was given for the relocation and demolition of the trans-amadi slaughter market, with the hope of erecting a more befitting project that will match the ongoing renovation of the popular port harcourt zoo.

A period of one month was given to occupants and those doing business to move out giving way for a NEW Project.

As expected it was given an ethnic colouration but for the quick response from the commissioner for agriculture Hon. Fred Kpakol who said the closure of the Oginigba slaughter market is not targeted at any ethnic group but is in line with the state goverment's urban renewal program.

Just this morning we saw news of the demolition taking place after the expiration of the one month notification and I could imagine the massive outpouring of encomium on Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike over the demolition of that criminal den called slaughter market .

You will agree with me that the hitherto slaughter market was not a place for the weak, except you don't reside or do business around there. This was the same place rivers state task force members and a serving Commissioner was beaten by people believed to be "The Untouchables "

It was a place of refuge for criminals, arms dealers and notorious armed robbers. In one of my life threatening experiences it took the intervention of an high ranking leader to rescue me from the hands of those robbers, one could imagine what would have happened.

On this one we are with you The Project Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. Sustaining the peace and progress of the state is key.

Education / Speech By Comr. Levi Zachariah George Nurss Nat'l President During The Internati by Notjustzaki(m): 12:02am On Aug 29, 2021
SPEECH GIVEN BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT COMR. LEVI ZACHARIAH GEORGE, NATIONAL UNION OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS (NURSS) NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, IN COMMEMORATION OF THIS YEAR’S INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY CELEBRATION 2021, 27TH AUGUST.

PROTOCOLS

Words are not enough to express how genuinely excited we are to have favourite people in the world here with us as we start this special commemorative event of the international youth Day.

Thank you very much for joining us and being such an important part of this program. We will cherish the memories that will emanate from this day for the rest of our lives and we are extremely happy to have you in them.

International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potentials of youth as partners in today’s global society.

The Day gives an opportunity to celebrate and mainstream young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement. It was established by the UN General Assembly, which on 17 December 1999, endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youths, calling for 12th August to be declared International Youth Day which has been celebrated by the state Government through the Ministry of Youths Development but the Leadership of NURSS deemed it necessary to bring such an event to the students community, knowing that students are the must populated youths in the world.

The 2021 theme for International Youth Day (IYD) is: Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health, calling attention to the need for development of more equitable and resilient food systems, to restore the planet and protect life, while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems.

Some considerations related to this year’s theme:
• The connection between food systems and young people with indigenous roots and ancestors. Indigenous people have valuable expertise in sustainable processes and the use of local resources.

The use of local resources boosts local trade and employment, which is critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.
Farming offers the young generation a chance to make a difference by growing enough food to feed the world.

Those who become farmers now have the opportunity to be the generation that end world hunger and alleviate malnutrition, as well as helping the sector adapt to climate change.

In order to improve youth involvement in agricultural production and processing in Nigeria, attention should be given to the factors leading to youth migration to urban areas. In addition, the economic constraints facing youth in agriculture (lack of credit, weak profitability, capacity constraint, etc) should be examined.

Youth should be trained on modern ways of agriculture and agri-business immediately after high school, after the training, those who choose to start an enterprise should be funded and encouraged while those who choose to work should be placed in farms of those who choose to create enterprises, that way their knowledge is used to build their businesses and that way it becomes sustainable and money realized from the business will be used to further their education in any course of study they choose.

In addition, youths who are currently into agriculture should be encouraged and honoured so that others will take interest in agriculture. We can only reduce youth unemployment in Nigeria through sustainable agriculture, if we want do things right. We can never expect the same results, when we do the same things!

Organizations and governments name buildings after people, living or dead, to commemorate their lives or generosity, though government buildings most often bear the names of deceased notables but today we will name this beautiful edifice after Living Legends, former National Presidents of our dear NATIONAL UNION OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS (NURSS) WORLDWIDE .

I hereby, on behalf of Rivers State Students and the Mandate given to me as the NAT'L President National Union of Rivers State Students - NURSS World-wide Media name this Building after Hon. Dax George-Kelly NURSS NATIONAL SECRETARIAT (ALUTA BUILDING), Prof. Isaac Zeb-obipi MULTI PURPOSE Hall, PST. Amakuro Amakiri CAFETERIA and Comr. Barr. Patrick Ogbuehi ICT CENTRE.

This is following their developmental Strides in the Students Community.

I once again welcome you to this year’s students/youth Day celebration, 2021.

Education / Insecurity In Nigeria, A Land Taken Over By Bandits; by Soye Maxwell by Notjustzaki(m): 8:12am On Aug 25, 2021
Insecurity in Nigeria, a land taken over by Bandits under a General

It is worthy to note that the present Federal Government led by President Muhamadu Buhari rode into Power with the mantra of salvaging the Nation from the security challenges that long bedeviled the northern part of the country due to the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist.

Today we don't just have Boko Haram, we now have a more dreaded militia group known as Bandits whose activities has continued unchallenged, wielding more power and authority with large chunk of money gotten as proceeds from several kidnaps, robbery and loot.

It is on record that banditry alone claimed 906 lives, which made it the highest cause of killings in the country and followed by Boko Haram attacks claiming 207 lives in Nigeria while kidnapping recorded 1, 774 abductees within January and March 2021

In the first quarter of 2021, Nigeria continued to experience inordinately high incidents of armed violence across the country, with very high body counts. Record shows that at least 1603 persons lost their lives to mass atrocities across the country from January to March 2021.

some northern state governors now appease criminal groups by paying fat ransoms to kidnappers, and offering cash-back to bandits in exchange for their weapons and assurance of security.
What more defines a failed state and total lost of trajectory of a country.

A nation on autopilot, how well would one describe a nation where alleged repentant terrorist are given the presidential treatment and enlisted into the country's military with the supposed
responsibility of protecting vital national interests and support of the national security and defense strategies, just like the Talibans of Afghanistan, I hope the disbanded Boko Haram terrorist and Bandits overtime don't overrun the country's military outfits due to the wide security information gathered from perceived repentant terrorist.

The Nigerian defence academy, a place perceived to be the safest place in Kaduna was just yesterday invaded by this same untouchable Bandits (where is the place of intelligence gathering), killing two and kidnapping a Major, who has been confirmed dead after a demand of 200m as ransom, what then is the fate of the majority of nigerians in the face of this assault, it is indeed a pity seeing a retired General bereft of strategic war plans.

We can't continue to keep quiet in the face of this terror terrorising our nation, Our Failed retired General should immediately explore other strategies and restore the already shattered and battered hope of nigerians.

Today the relative peace we enjoy in Rivers State is as a result of the purpose driven, objective and strategic leadership of the Nyesom Ezenwo Wike(NEW), led administration, fulfilling his campaign promise of providing security for the lives and property of Rivers people, little wonder why people yearn for a NEW leader at the center.

As the Political gladiators battle for 2023, it is pertinent to state that Rivers people are with NEW, a man who has brought development and peace to Rivers State.

Education / NURSS NAT'L STUDENTS/YOUTHS DAY CELEBRATION by Notjustzaki(m): 7:44am On Aug 23, 2021
Let's Talk Agriculture

If we are to enable youth to transform agriculture then the barriers to their engagement, such as access to land and finance, need to be addressed. National policies on farming and food security need to identify and address issues facing young people. As such youth need to become part of policy discussions at the local and national levels, whether as part of local development meetings, advisory groups or on boards or committees.

The NATIONAL UNION OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS (NURSS) WORLDWIDE proposed this program for young people to discuss opportunities in agricultural development, share experiences and advocate for greater youth engagement and representation.

You are all Invited!

Education / Nurss Reacts To The Barbaric Action Taken by the provost of Rivcohsmat against s by Notjustzaki(m): 10:19am On Jun 20, 2021
PRESS RELEASE

We are angered and saddened by the barbaric action on Students of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology, “This is a gross violation of Students rights and a horrific experience for Students to go through – one which could have long-lasting effects on their mental health and well-being.”

The actions taken by the Management of the College led by Prof. Franklyn Nlerum on Saturday 19th June, 2021 on Students, constitute a grave violation of the rights of Students and human rights. The schools must remain safe spaces for Students to learn without fear of violence”. We urge the Nigerian Police to at this point protect the students community instead of taking sides with the school Management to forcefully evict the Students from their hostels. It’s crystal clear that the Provost of the College lacks the capacity to handle this situation even when it was cold.

“We utterly condemn the action exhibited by the college provost and his cabinets and call on the HON. Commissioner of Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku to speedily take actions to restore the College back to its lost Glory through the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. Nyensom Ezenwo wike. CON

We also use this medium to plead with the government of Rivers State to take steps to ensure the safety and health of all students of the College are guaranteed and also look into the demands of the students.

May we also commend the students for their peaceful attitude displayed and also to the speedy response of our colleagues at NANS Zone B and other Comrades in the struggle whom have joined this very course in solidarity from inception till this moment to remain steadfast and unshakable for us to achieve this goal. “Students should feel safe at home and at school at all times – and parents should not need to worry for the safety of their children when they send them off to school”

We will continue to engage the Government meaningfully to ensure smiles return to the faces of all students at Rivers State College of Health Science Management and Technology and the entire Students community.

Solidarity forever,

As lovers of educational advancement to students of Public Primary and secondary Schools in Rivers State, the National President of the National union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) National Secretariat while addressing students at the event, advised the students to put in their best in their examinations in order to come out successfully, he stated that cultism and anti-social vices must be avoided strictly.

He however implore all Public Primary and Secondary School Pupils to be focus and concentrate wholly on their studies, noting that they are the future of tomorrow.

The students where also given talks on career choices and drugs abuse.

The Union was commended for the move and others were charged to emulate such kindness by some principals and Head Teachers.

The Union also commended the sponsor of the program HRM Sir. K. O. Ken Nwala for allowing the partnership who vowed to always play important role in developing education in the state.

The Union president also appreciated all that participated in the program,
Thanks to the HON. Commissioner of Education Rivers State, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku.
To my Executive members, thank you all.

Education / Nurss Nat'l Suspends Peaceful Protest For Bursary by Notjustzaki(m): 5:52am On Nov 26, 2020
I convey warmest greetings and felicitations to all Rivers State Student's at home and in diaspora. In this trying moment, it is only helpful -- to hope and work towards building a sustainable future and it is my desire to see all Nurssites break forth and their welfare considered to be of utmost priority by all and sundry.

The Leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Student's led by my humble self as the National President upon assumption of office, promised to prioritize the welfare of all Rivers State. Regrettably, Rivers State students have suffered utter neglect and untold hardship as a result of non payment of bursary for five years and running. More often, their welfare did not seem to matter to the Rivers State Government.

We immediately kick started the process of ensuring Rivers State Students welfare was put in the front burner. Sadly, we exhausted the 2 C's without making any headway. Having being left with just one C at our disposal, we ultimately decided to utilize the weapon in our arsenal to send a strong message and compel the appropriate bodies to swing into action and address all ills meted out on all Rivers State students for the past 5 years and counting........

After consulting widely, we collectively decided to carry out a protest on Thursday, 26th November, 2020 in Port Harcourt the Rivers state capital. In the face of current realities, we have unanimously decided to temporarily suspend the planned protest for the following reasons;

1. SECURITY REPORT: Credible intelligence indicate that plans underway by unscrupulous elements,. hoodlums miscreant, thugs to surreptitiously capitalize on the planned peaceful protest in order to wreck havoc and orchestrate a state of pandemonium and lawlessness with the sole intention of indicting the leadership of NURSS. to stage a counter protest to ridicule and bring to naught, the calls and demands of all Rivers State students for the betterment of their welfare.

2. APPEALS BY WELL MEANING RIVERS SONS AND DAUGHTERS: After series of appeal and intervention by well meaning Rivers son's and daughter's including civil liberties organization, civil societies organization etc. It is only in the best interest of peace and also to enable all relevant parties come to a roundtable and iron out pertinent issues that impedes on the collectively growth and welfare of all Rivers State Students.

3. GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION: We are thrilled to announce to all Rivers State Students that the Rivers State Government has officially asked the NURSS leadership to compile data of all Rivers state students for the purpose of bursary payment. We are engaged in a productive dialogue with the Government and hopefully, bursary payment will be carried out and once again, smiles and
unexplainable joy will be visited on the faces of all Rivers State students.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Education / RIVERS STATE STUDENTS TO PROTEST FOR BURSARY AND SPECIAL ADVISER ON STUDENTS AFF by Notjustzaki(m): 2:48pm On Nov 05, 2020
A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY NATIONAL UNION OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS (NURSS), NATIONAL SECRETARIAT ON WEDNESDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2020

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL UNION OF RIVERS STATE STUDENTS (NURSS),NATIONAL SECRETARIAT AT THE END OF HER EXECUTIVE/SENATE AND STAKEHOLDERS CONFERENCE HELD AT LEZON HOTEL IN PORT HARCOURT.

Consequent upon the National Executive Council/Stakeholders meeting of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), National Secretariat on Wednesday 4th November 2020 as presided over by the National President Comr. LEVI ZACHARIAH GEORGE, The National Executive Council deliberated on the State of the Union and way forward, Bursary, Students involvement on critical matters of the state and the generality of the welfare of Rivers State Students.

After very robust consideration of the foregoing scenarios of the state of the union, the meeting resolved as follows:

1. The union is saddened by the continuous absence of a Special Adviser on Students affairs to the Governor of Rivers State. The office which serves as the link between the Government and Students community have been left vacant for over five (5) years causing a breach in communication and some level of inaccessibility of the Government by Students. Hence, we call on the Governor of Rivers State ably Led by Chief Barr. Nyensom Ezenwo Wike CON POS Africa to create a Students window in His Government by appointing a Special Adviser on Students affair.

2. NURSS National Secretariat wishes to call on the Rivers State Governor Mr. Quality project to review his plans on Students bursary payment and equally commence the payment of Rivers State Students Bursary as he earlier promised in his first tenure as our dear Governor, owing to the fact that he is a talk and do Governor.
Recall that, the union has been calling on the need for Government to intervene in Students welfare during this pandemic. This bursary is a support for the Rivers state Students which will go a long way in helping the students pay their fees. Sadly so many students have not been able to pay their fees up till now. Due to the destabilization brought on by the Corona virus COVID-19.

3. In view of ensuring that the bursary payment gets to genuine Students of our dear Rivers State, the union has also resolved that all bursary payment should be paid directly to the portal of all her Students. This is to show transparency in the process to also clear the rant about embezzlement or hijack of the process which we believe it’s one of the obstacles delaying the process.

4. The union is also calling on the attention of the Governor to also check on the Union’s Secretariat during his inspection of projects in the state which has been completed and needs commissioning. We believe that he is a busy man and sometimes needs to be reminded of specific projects like this as the construction of the building has lasted for about two (2) years now. And up till now, the union doesn’t have a secretariat to carry out her activities and functions effectively.

5. The union doesn’t have a Bus for mobility and we find it difficult in attending to critical issues affecting the students of Rivers State outside and within the state, we therefore plead that His Excellency should provide a bus for the union for easy mobility.
6. We are also calling on the Governor to have an interactive session with all students in tertiary institution, secondary and primary schools in the state, The session will feature discussions of challenges hindering the development of education, security and their possible solutions.

6. In the event that any of this resolution is not looked into for consideration on or before 25th November, 2020, the organized National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) would not hesitate to come out in a peaceful Demonstration on the streets of Port Harcourt to demand for this as we have already formed our committee for the mobilization of our students come 26th November, 2020.

7. Finally, We appreciate and commend the peaceful nature of our students during the “ENDSARS” protests in Rivers State. We therefore call on all our students both home and diaspora whom have been actively involved in the peaceful demonstration of the ENDSARS PROTEST to remain vigilant and report all suspicious characters to the security agencies for immediate action.

8. Let me appeal to our Students not to allow themselves to be used to misinterpret the good aim of the ENDSARS protest.

9. Thank you and God bless you all.
