Well, i just found out that a stress reaction, resulting from a traumatic event, such as the death of a loved one is the major cause of Diogenes syndrome. Yes! he just lost a loved one, his lover and financial backbone.

It's a typical example of some mad people we see on the streets today carrying alot of load.
Most of them suffer Diogenes syndrome but people have no knowledge of it. They are unkept, dirty, hoard things, are withdrawn and have no shame but we call it "madness" in Nigeria (which isn't wrong cos it's a mental disorder). it's possible Oga can even afford a house of his own but just wants to live off you for lesser responsibility. You do the cleaning, cooking, bill paying etc and he plays victim.

Diogenes syndrome is a big case and I can never put up with someone with a dirty habit. That alone is enough reason to kick him out.
My advise is you sit him down and have a heart to heart talk with him. Let him go find an apartment even if its a only room apartment. Know how much the rent is and how much he has and support him financially to pay for the room and move out.
