And so what? Dont they use 'sex' which can mean intimacy also for 'gender'.

Like ChinenyeN said it's still a nice word in our language.
Just because its a nice word in Ngwa doesnt mean it will pass! And by the way; what does "ike" mean in Ngwa dialect?
Secondly, like I told your Ngwa brother before; It will not pass because of the profanity nature of the word, like I said before, Igbos frown at profanity. Maybe my "akalaonye" invention will not pass but you have to be more creative here. You cant just look in the sky and come up with a word as common as ike and expect the larger populace to accept it!

you are the shameless monkey that is suffering from amnesia , you have no morality or respect as your culture does not accord you one , owa people are ika and we are not igbo , no owa man have ever belonged to an ndigbo ethnic meetings we have our own ogua ika /onu ika led by an ika man sunday osifoh, ikas are too cultured to follow a people without leadership and kingship, were money and raw power makes one king , i am a son of royalty in owa , i am a descendant of owa kings and i am very proud of my culture. and we intend to protect it from thieving marauders like you , if you venture cross to ika/owa , you arnd you kind will suffer defeat again like in 1967, when owa and ika people rejected igbo people and assisted the federal troops to flush them out and you know what muritala made his home in owa and was even giving a title for assisting owa people to flush your people out.
This utter rubbish and latrin stinking trash from a cultureless baastaard ! you have lost all the respect I have for you,today! I have been ignoring this thread for a while because of the knowledge of our fellow Igbos whom you are dealing with here; But you are been very disrespectful to the ancient Nri cultural religion and teaching which the Ikenga cult was an integral part of and existed in IKA land. The Ikenga cult has a very deep history in IKA land and that indvertently tells you that there is a strong Igbo root in Ikaland,yet you still you vehemently denied IKA being Igbo! You say Igbo have inferiority complexhuh Think about something else because from my knowledge of your comments here you look like the angry one!! Did you say Igbos dont have culture huh You are psycho,fool !! We the Igbos might not have the most famous kings in Nigeria but we have the oldest,most sacred,the most peaceful NRI KINGDOM where 80% of Anioma Igbos originated from. Maybe your own kindred moved from Benin but the Nri settlement were the earliest to occupy that land; Thats why the Ikenga cult existed there till this day!! You are a baaastard because you have insulted the owners of the IKALAND!!! You are a maad dooog!! You have no respect for IKA history and culture. If you can disrespect the Igbo nation this way then you cant proudly call yourself an IKA man!!

ChinenyeN:
Akalaonye is way too cumbersome and seems like an overbearing effort to convert English to non-English. Ike makes much more sense to me. Don't you see the etymology?
Not really. You can say its stressful but so are lots of English words which has Latin,Greek and French roots in them; Initially, ppl might find it hard to pronounce but as soon as they start using it more often it will just become like one of those words like "mahadum","tachycardia",which were Igbo and English respectively but were all recently constructed words.
As for "mbatukus" invention of "ike" for sex; I dont think it will pass,why? Given the fact that the nature of Igbo language frowns at profanity will make it not to pass.

There are Igbo words for already, except you want to add more:

bridge= akwa, ikpeke, ngongo

tyres= afo

P.S Impeachment means being charged or accused of wrong conduct, not removal.
Who calls tire AFO ? Is it the same afo I know as stomach ? Because if it is then it dont make much sense.
I got ukwugbo from; ukwu =leg.ugbo=vehicle; which brings us to ukwugbo.

There are a couple I can remember at the moment.

Ogede (I suspect this is originally yoruba)

Ofigbo(palm oil)

Ogbe(quarters)

Idumu(I think I heard this once, not so sure tho)
Mbatuku, we the Umuoji,Idenmili's dont call it ogede,rather its "unele";so I dont know who and who calls it "ogede" in Anambra areas.

"ogbe" in Idenmili means area or vicinity not really a village could also means. So, that word "ogbe" is a true Igbo word.
There is a clan in my town called Umuidumu but I dont know what that Idumu means but its one of those ecaic names in my town Umuoji,Idenmili. Names like Odanwa,Idumu,Nzulu,Oyagulu,Obeche are few from many names from my town which I dont know what they meann.
As for "ofigbo" I dont know who useses it nor the meaning.

Physics, if you believe "iyaselle" is a Benin word then I will need you to tell me what it means,because one titled man from my kindred in Idenmili is greeted "iyaselle"
Onicha has a title called "Onowu iyaselle" and I know for sure that "ONOWU" is an Igbo word.
Basicly,i need a little more education on the "iyaselle" title meaning.

Onowu = me dont know
Odanwa = me dont know
Nwajiuba = a child holds wealth
Akuchukwu=wealth from God
Nwakibie= Best among equals
Nnaebuo= a male child who will become a father
Nwadialor=(my OZO title name given to me by my grand father; it means a valued child)
Nwanonukpo-eze = a child who sits in the royal chair(my younger brothers OZO title name)
Agbalanze= Custodian of Nze na Ozo institution( given to high ranking titled men only and their is only one Agbalanze in each village of our town)
Ugonabo=complete greatness(one of the highest Ozo cult,usually taken by rich men) my people will say ogbenye ada aza Ugonabo, haha ijikwa ego ?
You can recognize Ugonabos by the two feathers on their red Ozo cap.
This is the title I will go for when I become richer!!

In my worldview, this doesn't count bro.

The exact reason why I find Onicha Igbo language a bit annoying.(tho I love the sound of the dialect still) Too many borrowed words being touted as real words, even when there are existing Igbo equivalents.
I dont think Onicha calls women "okpoho", its ikporo which is also prevalent in the Anambra riverline areas.
The Onichas of southeast rarely have a single Benin word in their dialect; Tell me one single Onicha word that is Benin and I will confidently tell you where in Idenmili it originated from !!
One Igbo dude like that from Delta was claiming that Onicha culture was borrowed from Benin in a group conversation and I acted like I dont even speak Igbo until he mentioned the "IYASSELE" title. Needless to say but he went home feeling well informed.
My father told me that both ADO and IDU are Igbo words and do not forget Igbo dialect varies.
Please enough of this Benin obsession,its getting on my freaking nerves!
Onicha didnt borrow jack from Benin except the idea of monarchy,if you think otherwise then explain.
I am actually enjoying this cool thread.

@Nri Priest, you have done well. But you are mixing Ika with Ukwuani. UKWUANI is different from IKA. Agbontaen is primarily concerned with his Ika and not the entire Delta Igbo.

There is no two ways about it, Ukwuani is 100% Igbo.

I have tried my best not not discuss Igbo affairs with ppl who felt they are not Igbo nor call someone an Igbo brother when they clearly resents me and say very hurtful thing to me because I am extending a brotherly hands to them !! I said this because I actually took a second to peruse through what this gentleman has been writing and I was actually stunned that I could understand 95% of the ukwuani dialect he wrote in; And my question is; does the fact that I, an Idenmili,Anambra boy from Umuoji who wasnt born nor raised in the southeast was able to understand a dialects some said was filled with 70% Benin words,20% Igbo words and 10% indiginous to ukwuani make it an Igbo dialect huh?? Agbotaen said its mostly Benin words and my question is how come the Benins dont understand ukwuani,and why do they call ukwuani ovu Igbo huh?
I will never call anybody Igbo if they dont think they!! But there are alot of question that need to be answered; for example, How the hell does the sacred IKENGA cult get to ukwuani land. Ikenga doesnt even exist in all southesst Igboland,talk more of ukwuani. So, my point is that the presence of the Ikenga shows that ukwuani has a very strong NRI root and traditions that describes an Igbo group!! Its left for anybody to call themselves what they feel like !!

Hell, we have two Ngwas here who run the Igbo thread like prostitutes runs a brothel but they will be quick to tell you that the Igbos are OHUHU and they Ngwa and are not really into all the Igbo unity thing.

Dialects in Enugu are Nsukka, Nkanu, Udi (including Ngwo and Nike), and Oji (supposed to be in Anambra smiley. I think they speak Awka dialect, not so sure any more).

In Anambra we have Onitsha, Awka, Nri, Nnewi and maybe others.
What do you mean by this ??
The only dialects that can stand alone here are Nnewi and Awka; you didnt add Ihiala areas but they speak a different dialect.
Idenmili,Oyi,Njikoka,DunukofiaOnitsha,Ogbaru,Anambra east/west,Ayamelum,Ekwusigo and some others I cant remenber now all speak very similar dialects with little variations.

Isuofia,awgbu,agulu,aguluezechukwu,amobia and more lga around that area speak something like what the Awka ppl speak.

There is nothing like Nri dialects and Onitsha dialects. I bet you if you hear an Idenmili and Onitsha speaking you wont be able to tell who is who.
