@OP:

Please change the title to "Ibadan's NEW look" - that will allow photos that are not just of roads to be posted and be relevant

django1: Bro, can u open a thread on pics of roads in IB? @nuclearboy
Pls do that and I will upload what I have - I didn't want to derail this thread, just to buttress the idea that Ibadan is more than worth the idea of giant marts
PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by nuclearboy(m): 9:18pm On Jul 02, 2013
Ibadan is really beautiful AND serene. And what I noticed is that no matter where one got to, there's always the mix - old and new aside the truly "new" areas that will scare even some residents of Victoria Island.

So I laugh at the idea of Shoprite being considered over the top here.
PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by nuclearboy(m): 9:06pm On Jul 02, 2013
delpee: @nuclearboy
Nice pics.

Bere is looking really good! No traders / danfo drivers blocking the road and the environment is clean. Governor has done well. I passed through Iwo Rd on my last visit and was surprised at the transformation and absence of the 'go slow' of the past. The circular/ring road around town being planned will open up new areas and decongest the city hopefully.
I wish we could have pictures of Akobo, Jericho etc.
Soon - my weekdays are unreasonably busy, but will, asap, though Jericho get as e be now with the widening of the road. smiley

ngozievergreen: ok, how does this tally with culture preservation story according to one of your own.

U know wat? when u guys decide on one stand, let me know.
As for now,...........................
And where do you see culture "preservation" in MY post(s)? Everyplace is progressing and I wish the SE the best (not all of us see these NL wars as sensible) but Ibadan has storey buildings built before 1900 - you can't expect every family to have developed at same pace and have modernized their heritage, can you?
PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by nuclearboy(m): 1:53pm On Jul 01, 2013
ngozievergreen: Dilapidating and poor looking rusty houses are your culture and heritage? keep it coming.

i guess your politicians live in those houses too.

mind u, there is nothing African about old cemented houses and rusty corrugated zinc sheet, all those are the result of lack of money to maintain/renovate an UNAFRICAN house. so, leave culture out of this.

i suppose the white men that brought these tnz live in your kind of houses in their countries. Even Lagos through which the white men came to Nigeria has those houses everywhere, huh? Early devt indeed, wetin cum arrest ibadan's development for many decades now?
Most areas are now a mix of the older houses AND newer houses that are taking over. Most of the young have left for the western world anyway so its the aged that are comfortable that are there. Its starting to change faster and faster

PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by nuclearboy(m): 1:49pm On Jul 01, 2013
delpee: Reminds me of my school QSI and our neighbors GCI. Great schools indeed!

I also find all the tribal stuff by the younger generation on NL annoying. We never bothered about tribes those days. It was more of
'Though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand' (the old Naija anthem).
And the insults? Quite amazing! Reason why I read a lot and comment on few. Its sad that most of our youth seem to see everything on tribal basis -no
objectivity. Its difficult having a meaningful chat with people who are heavily biased and ever ready to insult others.
I actually took a drive thru Ibadan yesterday and was impressed with what its becoming. Took dozens of photos intending to upload them here. But that's a guarantee of derailment plus the nay-sayers will still find a lot of crap to say so I didn't bother.

Interestingly, I deliberately drove thru the areas even us dreaded just to see whats it like now - I was pleasantly surprised. At this pace of development, only God knows what Ibadan would have become.

Here's Bere, as an example

I think you'd be surprised if you knew just how many "oldies" are here! The tribal slant here plus the all too common insultive posts keep most quiet!

Kingsway meatpie and coke were a staple returning to Command Bode-Igbo, Goftie (GCI), Queens Apata and ISI in the early eighties!
PoliticsRe: Lamido Was A Secondary School Drop Out And A Failure -APC by nuclearboy(m): 10:04pm On Jun 28, 2013
Its ridiculous the way anybody who has an ambition is being maligned because of GEJ. And it speaks volumes when everybody is now a boko haram sponsor, not educated, a killer, an emperor etc when evidence at times points in the direction these people are coming from.

Its obvious this is a planned gang-up and a cursory look at many previous posts show these people do nothing except despoil others and try to shore up just one person.

Why not convince us with performance? Why do you rise ONLY when others fall? Even from High School (and people "boast" with this as God's Blessing), people say that the substantive head-boy had issues is why he climbed up! Since then, its been same - what manner of destiny destroys other people to rise and cannot stand by its own self?

It's sickening

More of such deviations are expected
cry cry cry

I don't even know what to say about people like you. Me, dilute impact on Tinubu after what I said earlier? You have spiritual problems O, honestly - very serious ones!

I state unequivocally that someone is wrong and am pissed off that the man we all looked at, as a change from the past is still towing the same path allowing rubbish go on under his nose, and to your oven of a head, that is tacit support for the person I wish was sanctioned?? huh

I have no words for such as you

jmaine: What has GEJ got to do with this and the Mokola bridge launching outside the purview of the PDP and the presidency ? undecided

You lot always have this trait of even blaming the weather on GEJ

Its saddening . .Please stay focused on the course of the thread

Thanks . . .
I BLAME the President because leadership starts from the LEADER! If such as Patience sat at home and didn't use the Seal of the Federal Republic (same as a 419ner forging CBN letterhead) and if Policemen didn't have the nerve to shoot defenseless people simply because they didn't give enough bribe and if people like Alamesiegba didn't still see themselves as statesmen, people like Tinubu wouldn't do anything they wanted without fear of redress! With all the noise that has been made about his wealth and the "source" of it, a serious President should have had him investigated, shouldn't he? Yet we live under "steal 100Billion belonging to old pensioners and get a 750, 000 fine and you still have your federal guards and jump queues even over the Senate leaders to see the same President"!! !! !!

We are living under a culture of impunity because THIS President is NOT pulling his weight! Some of us are not affiliated to political parties. We just want decency and the frigging emperor is a frigging disappointment! angry

If you cannot understand that, or decide to politicize it, your problem.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria, Still Top Investment Destination In Africa - UNTCD by nuclearboy(m): 9:02am On Jun 28, 2013
Nigeria has the greatest resource of any country in Africa - Human beings! This population automatically provides the largest market for ANY goods/services on the African continent!

So what is the news here? Is it Somali that investors should rush to?

Abeg make we hear word!

Anyway what have those investments brought OUR own way?
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Daughter Officially Installed As Traders’ Leader By The Oba Of Lagos by nuclearboy(m): 8:46am On Jun 28, 2013
kofoshi: which stupid king is that? The same one that take counsel from Tinubu on how to run his kingdom. No matter how much icing sugar you choose to dress this up with, it does nothing to take away from the fact that not only is tinubu politically influential in the matter of the west, he is also meddling with our traditional government. He is the monarchy and his greed is what will ultimately lead to his demise, mark this day down.

He would be brought down whether through shame or death!

That he "delivered" you from the PDP means that you should now lose your sense of reasoning?
Kudos for the bolded!

Tinubu DID deliver from PDP and only a PDP animal/tout will say ACN has not done far better. But we ought not lose our senses - this is starting to go too far. I was disappointed to hear Tinubu was the one to "open" Ibadan's new bridge. Why, when there is a President, Ministers and other state functionaries, does a party leader have to be the one to launch state property?

Only under GEJ do such ridiculous things become regular - impunity
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Daughter Officially Installed As Traders’ Leader By The Oba Of Lagos by nuclearboy(m): 8:40am On Jun 28, 2013
This is GREED on Tinubu's part.

If only because of the noise this has generated in the society (and the "now" fake rebuttal ACN earlier gave), DECENCY posits that he allows this post go to someone else. When I read the rebuttal, I was pleased but this saddens.

This is impunity at its highest because the action suggests he (like GEJ) also doesn't give a damn what people think. You cannot look at this any other way except decency doesn't have a place in your lexicon

bubadaniel13: As far as i am concern, nothing will happen, Nigeria will continue to be Nigeria, he will leave out his tenure to 2019 as the commander in chief...if the people vote him as President again, nobody can stop him God from becoming what God has destined him to be period....
PoliticsRe: Which Nigerian Woman Can Be The President Of The Country? by nuclearboy(m): 2:37pm On Jun 27, 2013
mickyarams: The simple truth is we don't have anybody in this country both male and female that is inspiring and have the charisma to be a the perfect leader we want in Nigeria. Just look at our house of assembly, they all look like a bunch of overgrazed cattle.
And what about Oby Ezekwesili? There are GREAT (not just good) women and men. However, the (PDP) establishment doesn't want such people getting near power
PoliticsRe: Gov Rotimi Amaechi's Deadly! A Must Read!! by nuclearboy(m): 2:31pm On Jun 27, 2013
I've never commented on Amaechi vs GEJ yet here goes..... . ...

Amaechi is a braggart - I think that's patently obvious to most anyone with a brain. He talks too much and carelessly. BUT in fairness to him, he performs. It has not been to the standard we would like yet people say Rivers State has changed in terms of security, schools, hospitals etc. I doubt anybody will argue against that assertion! So people "respect" him.

GEJ - doesn't talk! The few times he does, his feet are the first thing to appear from his throat. In terms of performance, I believe somethings ARE changing. But too slowly and the propaganda is damn too much. But what of security etc? So I personally see this fight and its like ...... "WHY IS THIS MAN WHO NEEDS TO UP HIS GAME LEAVING HIS JOB TO PLAY IN THE MUD WITH SOMEONE WHO AT LEAST, HAS MADE AN IMPACT?" Of course, the propagandists come out to defend him with guns blazing and we each dig trenches and settle down for warfare. I become more critical to prove my point about him needing to up his game and they become more defensive.

Unfortunately, the way this country is, it ends up a "us versus them" issue and tribal issues rise up with THEM forgetting that it wasn't just his SS/SE people that voted him into power and me deciding best thing is to replace the man with a less divisive character.

GEJ loses most because Amaechi cannot continue anyway and it is him that is seen as a bully. People keep comparing GEJ to Obasanjo - who wants to be remembered as OBJ is today, reviled by his own people and cast aside by the very people he put in power?

My point is "Stop vilifying everyone because they are not sucking up to GEJ. You do NOT demand loyalty, you earn it. Face your job and just as public opinion shifted when the SoE started, your enemies will quieten when your performance leaves the pages of newspaper reports and enters people's bellies". Amaechi should be a non-issue!
PoliticsRe: Construction Of The Ten-Lane Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Begins July by nuclearboy(m): 1:41pm On Jun 27, 2013
Because of past projects which include the SAME ROAD, we'd prefer to know the timeline - ground-breaking can cost 1 million and then nothing happens again for 2 years (with 2 billion released) while the propaganda machine comes alive and resonates with sounds of progress even though nothing is happening anymore. And we are used to hearing excuses THEN so we know all your models.

when will it be completed? Are there stages? detail such "stages" and give planned dates of completion.

I don't know about others but I will praise GEJ if I see progress, not on social media or as plans, but when I drive better roads and see the effect of this your "transformation" in reality.

Please do NOT come back with "stories" - if there is nothing, keep quiet! It is insulting to be thought a fool and sincerely, that's what I think makes most people annoyed at your GEJ - propaganda while achieving almost zero (PHCN is a case in point)!
PoliticsRe: FG May Ban Generator Importation Declare Emergency On Power Sector by nuclearboy(m): 8:41am On Jun 26, 2013
Idiocy!

No power, bad diesel which destroys generators and you want to restrict import?

So Government houses which get priority power will use generators since their goods are not checked or even have duties yet others should use what? Candles?

These people don't think before talking
PoliticsRe: Jonathan, Amaechi In Battle To Host Governors by nuclearboy(m): 9:46am On Jun 25, 2013
This is just so indecent, so petty, so self-serving! cry

Why is this President disrespecting himself so much? He has turned himself and the office he sits in, into a joke! If the pro-Amaechi governors refuse his dinner, he becomes a laughing stock. If they attend, he becomes a bully.

So where's the honor WHATEVER happens?

Why not be presidential and ignore them?

This is something I wouldn't expect from a LGA Councillor who has attained 30 years of age cry

Parisbee5: I love your submission so much bro., keep it up. However, GMB has categorically stated his respect for other religious, tribal and ethnic groups at different fora. You can check my profile for such related post and for further clarification. All rumours associating GMB with religious extrimism are concocted by corrupt characters in the govt. circle who have sworn never to let him smell the seat of power talkless of tackling corruption.
GMB is also friendly and jovial. He was once a smoker before giving up smoking based on personal beleif.
I know and totally agree with you! Yet as I stated, the issue is is few people know!

So why not let it be known? At least, the "enemies" will have one less weapon and it is their strongest anyway!

Its sad that keeping quiet is doing so much damage to such a stellar character!

Also, the man is scary - doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't womanise, doesn't loot (refused to join PDP and become a billionaire), doesn't bend etc!

Worst of all, doesn't EVER defend himself!

People fear such people! So give them something - say your own side in a more humanitarian manner, not the ascetic cold way! Its incredibly great to be so moral, so straight, so unbending! Add a bit of humor, relax, be human! Yes, I have met him and he is human but he rarely allows that to show! Only close friends and associates have seen the human! So others are scared - they see an implacable, hard, cold soldier! Add GenBuhari's photos and what people know of his 20 months and he ends up looking like a devil when in fact, he is the exact opposite!

We are quick to forget that the best of history were not people who smiled or embraced everyone! As a matter of fact, the friendly, nice smiling ones usually were the worst of humanity!

Use this simple knowledge to make the man under "show out"! The current persona? In a country where the average person wants just to become a Billionaire without working? Fear of him turning Nigeria into a place where things work and thus, where only the truly deserving "do well" will NOT sit down well! Its himself that has to relax and that ought be easy at 70! Relax and show your humane self, NOT change from being upright
PoliticsRe: The Buhari Supporters Group by nuclearboy(m): 7:54pm On Jun 22, 2013
The ABSOLUTE best thing GMB can and thus, should do, is to at the nearest opportunity state clearly that Yes, he is a Muslim and satisfied to be one, but that he sees Christians as equal brothers who have a right to make their OWN choices and that He will NEVER support the forced conversion of anyone from one Religion to another talkless of violence against such!

What is patently obvious to the discerning is that the above is what he is, yet general perception is the opposite!

That is the single greatest help anyone can give him - open your OWN mouth and because people know his word is his bond, he will change the minds of many! Its easier for me to believe what you say about yourself categorically rathert than what supporters say!

Well, this Amaechi message has effectively cancelled out that trick as its NOW obvious the reason for attending will be the meeting with the President and not to fulfill the fake summons!
