For comparison, a 2008 Honda accord v6 is 3.5litre and has 268hp..heck, a 2003 Honda accord v6 I owned and sold on this forum a short while ago, has an 2004 acura TL v6 3.2litre engine that pulls 270hp .. I pity you if you rely on this yeye Volvo v8 logo and try to chase down that Accord

Hi everyone, what a great forum..

So my black c240 is misbehaving... the fuel consumption "bar" showing the average mpg while driving, goes up to the max 40L/100km when the car is idle, or under the 10km/h speed. Between 20-40 km/h it starts moving towards 20L/100km, and once the speed picks up above 50 km/h it goes back to normal around 10L/100km, showing average fuel consumption related to the actual driving and mileage I get..so I know that no fuel is leaking. And my consumption when I did a trip from Lagos to Ibadan at average speed of 100km/hr. was about 9.8l/100km so that checks out...

as far as know the only consequence from this is that it inflates my mpg if I stop/slow down often...

I've scanned with 6 different scanners but no fault codes.

any ideas what it might be?

I believe the information you're viewing is your INSTANSTANEOUS MPG as against the AVERAGE MPG. The values you've quoted sound correct.

Naturally no, but driving at really high rpms it does happen.

Any cause for alarm? Time will tell. For now I'm not bothered.

The trip made me realise a couple of things about the vehicle.

I ensured paper work was complete before leaving, but gladly no one was interested bin stoping my jalopy for checks.

Fuel economy is only good when you keep speeds under 120km/h, if you force it too hard, it gulps fuel.

Previous owner had raised the front struts of the vehicle, this messed up the aerodynamics of the car, you could actually feel the vehicle fighting the wind , also messed up the fuel economy.

oil burn was less than 0.5liters for the over 800km trip, without much oil colour change, no coolant shortage , no transmission oil leaks, no new codes on vehicle computer, no uneven tyre wear, airconditioning still works as it should .


I will be working on the suspension to give vehicle proper height balance, replace front and rear struts, and rear coil springs.

Aesthetics will follow shortly after.

At the bolded, should one expect any oil burn at all, from a healthy engine during such a long trip?

Guys, I finally got my c300 2011 January. Soooo COMFORTABLE to drive. Mercedes are and will be a pinnacle of luxury and performance. But to say a Mercedes Benz is ‘the best car to drive’ would be an opinion, not a fact. I almost embarassed myself today, I had to quickly Google how to open the fuel port LOL.

So guys, who can recommend a very good mechanic for me that can be assisting anytime I need work to be done.

Get the VIN and do a search online. All details will show up. Nigerian car sellers can be deceptive especially with the W202's cos they dont want u to know how old the car is?

N.B: A W202 that is shipped from the USA with model year 1999...is actually a 1998 model manufactured in 1998 in Germany and shipped to the USA.

I dont think they had plants in the USA until like 2000. The merger with Chrysler was a major gain in this path.

I learnt this in an interesting way yesterday, after over 3 years of owning a w202

It depends on the side of mainland... C class is a good one , also ensure you don't swim waters if it's the compressor... Use star oil for the gear and Mobil for the engine ....

I don't know how and where you are in mainland, I have used Benz for years now and I have two guys one in Alausa and the other around Egbeda.. they are good but call this one

I already have told you that your vehicle is overdue for maintenance if your instrument cluster displays that. It's either the service was done and the maintenance indicator wasn't reset or the maintenance was never done which I don't think that's possible anyway.

-35,000 displayed there means that the vehicle is overdue for maintenance by that figure which I guess is in kilometres. Did you recently buy the vehicle? If yes, visit a workshop and service your engine after which perform a reset. A competent mechanic should be able to get that done for you.
