The upskilling never ends ... Just when I thought I was solid in MySQL, they required MSSQL (which I did), now they're asking for data warehouse skills(which I am on as I speak)...

Met a guy on LinkedIn told him what I could do, but he succeeded in listing all the skills that I do not have (Google analytics, Databox, digital marketing tools, bigquery), I shook my head --- see my life!

We just have to take it one step at a time.

Data analysis doesn't start and end with all these tools you guys keep learning, there are more to it . Improving your statistics and communication skills is very important. most of what you will be doing as a Data analyst is communicating and story telling, you find pattern, insight from messy data and you communicate to the stakeholders .
Learning Excel, Mysql, tablueu or powerbi and strong communication and statistical skills is enough for you to secure a job as a data analyst in Nigeria today. python could be added to technical skills also.

HTML, CSS and Javascript (more jobs, fast and quite easy to learn unlike Data Analysis/Science).

In 6 months time, if you are dedicated, you should be able to start something meaningful.

you must be out of your mind to say that data analysis/data science has less job prospect than web development (html, CSS JavaScript).
currently,in Nigeria, there are more data science job than web development (html, CSS,javescript). web development field in Nigeria is a bit saturated in Nigeria now unless you very good at it; its bit hard getting job as web developer this days in Nigeria for an average Tom but that is not the same for data science infact, many senior web developer are now going in data science now.

Hi guys, this thread has been a real source of inspiration to me and because of that I am about take the biggest risk in my life so far.

I have been jobless before I got my current work so I know how the streets are but the nature of it makes me despise my job, the salary Is enough to cater for my basic needs monthly but hard to squeeze in some savings.

Some Nokia phones are in same league with some transsion phones. Infact when it comes to performance some transsion phones out performs Nokia.
I currently use Nokia 3.2 and I regret ever buying it. The phone runs on Snapdragon 429 quad processor which snails on Very heavy usage and even the recent upgrade to android 10 , with a lot of bugs, has not helped matter atall.
I once compared it's performance with infinix hot 7 Which runs on meditake octa processor, and later out performed it.
Some low end Nokia phones don't worth it ,and are same par with transsion phones

I was scammed this morning oo on Facebook,I saw one post about one scheme called flip cash they promise to increase my money if I should invest in their scheme. it was a family friend I trusted that posted it on her Facebook page not knowing her account has been hacked and it's been controlled by those fraudsters. I later sent them the sum of 8900 naira hoping to get 30k. I wouldn't have fall for this scam if not that I trust this family friend of ours. they requested for my Facebook login details after I have sent the money that was I later discovered I have been scammed and they're the one behind my family friend account.

I bet you never fell for their little trick because of your family friend whose account was hacked, you fell because of your greediness. It's high time Nigerians learnt there is no free money online.

A family friend called me and asked if I'll be interested in civil defense work, I told her yes why wouldn't I? She sent me a number to call the man he'll put me through the process.

I was excited, I called the man who spoke to me calmly, he asked me to send my details to him which include my name, age, height, qualifications and all, i did that without instantly i was sooo fast while typing I'm sure even flash will be trilled at the speed.

The next day he sent a civil defense form to me to fill and scan to his mail, i did that and called him to inform him, he then acknowledge that he has seen it and told me he has forwarded my form to their H.R. I should await their call, i was soo happy immediately i dropped the call i started googling salary of a degree holder of the civil defense officer, saw 121k in my mind i was like their Father i don arrive, i go soon buy Benz.

The H.R called me and told me they've contacted my school to ask if i graduated from their school and they told them yes. He then asked for my c.v and told me to wait for my appointment letter.

Early Thursday morning omo see appointment letter for my mail o!! with my name written in capital letter... I called him to notify him of the new development, he congratulated me and told me i will have to pay the sum of 85k for my 2 weeks training in Kano and the payment must be made before noon but i shouldn't worry the money will be returned after my training but u have to pay early so as not to loose the job. I know we all want to get employed but instead of learning to get a job, learn to improve yourself....if you are thoroughly good with excel, Tableau/powerbi ( one of them ) and even a small knowledge of sql, you are already fit for jobs...Then if you get one or while submitting letters, you can continue expanding....

Who will pay you for just knowing tools without using it to gain insight. You definitely need statistics for you to be able to use these tools to gain insight effectively.
For example, Somebody who doesn't know the difference between Categorical and numerical variables cannot use tabulea or powerbi effectively, he or she will never know the perfect graphical representation to gain insight from this variables.
Statistics is definitely the number one thing anybody who wants to be a data scientist/analyst, businesses intelligence analyst,data miner... needs know because everything about those job mentioned above is all about finding patterns, gaining insight, predicting the future and communicating the result of the data for effective decision to be made.
Nobody, will ever employee you to come and just give graphical representation which you don't even understand. Knowing the the tools is just like 40% of the skills needed, you need understanding of statistics, understanding of data in its context and effective communication skills for you to be able to make up to 100%
So add statistics among what you listed

learning vanilla javescript is not as daunting as you people make it seem when you have basic programming skills like knowing python. it is only hard for people with just HTML and CSS skills, but if you have programming skills and you are serious you can learn JavaScript in 3 weeks at maximum.
That's why advice who wants to go into web development to learn python before learning html and css, it will make it very simple for them to learn

I would have loved to enlighten you but seeing that you learnt everything about data science in two days makes me doubt if it will worth it to waste my time doing so.
learning what took people 4-6 six months to learn even with strong maths background within two days means two things: you are not being truthful to yourself or you are a genius.
if the latter is true then there is no need wasting my time teaching you what you can excel can do better than pandas at the most basic level, you can figure it out easily.

There are more in data analysis than knowing the tools used, nobody will pay for just knowing the tools used for data analysis but you will be paid for using these tools to get results needed for everyday business.understanding how to find patterns out raw data, understanding a business problem that needs to be solved with the data you have, visualizing the result and communicating the result to stake holders so appropriate descion will be made is not what you will learn in two days unless you don't want to be honest with yourself and want continue to lieing to yourself then I will allow you to wallow in ignorance.

people like shinning things with big names rather than the basic. I use to be a victim of this way of reasoning but recently, I found that there is very much I can do with excel than with pandas. I spent so much learning pandas but, the little time and effort I spent learning excel made me my data analysis job very easy than I could have imagined.
pandas is very good to learn, it makes your data analysis work easy but, overlooking excel as a data analysis tool is very bad because there is much which excel can do that Pandas can not do.

I am very sure that what you have been learning is how to build machine learning model with out even understanding what you are doing, maybe you built a simple regression machine learning model to predict price or a logistic model to predict customers rentention and you think that's all in data science.

can you clean a messy data?
can you do data exploration ETA to gain insight from data before building model?

can you communicate and visualiz data findings?

do you know python or R?
do you know statistical analysis?

My brother, if you can't calm down and learn data science through step by step process you better leave and do something else with your time....data science is not all about building machine learning model. Real world data are too messy and need to be cleaned,explored, before building any sort of machine learning model on it.
Even the machine learning model you feel is to easy to build is not easy without good knowledge of statistics and mathematics. machine learning models need to be fine tuned to produce an accurate result

Data science is not all about machine learning, Data science encompasses data analysis, business intelligence,data analytics, machine learning, data mining,deep learning even artificial intelligence is considered as part of data science.
I don't even know why am disturbing myself you are just 17 years old, you are still growing and very soon you will know that data science is not all about cramming models

A standard firm can employ tens of software engineers, 5 to six data analysts and only one Data scientist.
