Some Igbos are claiming the moderators favour Yorubas and anti-Igbo threads because they are Yorubas, now you claim the moderators favours Igbos and anti-Yoruba threads because they are Igbos. Which one are we sef? God help the moderators!

Just stop your campaign already. We do not promote bigotry. If you see any "tribal" thread or post report it and we will deal with it. Some of the "tribalists" from both sides have just been banned again today.

Thanks.
Seun,

I think you are going about this the wrong way. As the resident Eze Mmuo of Nairaland, I really do not see how enquiring about the relationship between a thread (which more often than none are absolutely useless threads that even hit the frontpage) and the price of Garri can be misconstrued to be 'wrong'..

'How does this affect the price of Garri" is simply a figure of speech particularly an Idiomatic expression that simply means "How does this affect anything'. I really think that you should reconsider your stand on this subject matter and treat it as just another one of those things. Otherwise, anyone who posts any message that is remotely divergent from the topic of a thread should be banned.

I would say thanks for your cooperation, but seeing as you have not once cooperated on any of my requests in the past from 'Creating a Photography thread, to making an Igbo man a super Mod to even stopping the ethinically charge Tribalism against the Igbo Nairaland community', I would end this message with;

Thanks and Hope you surprise me for once in over 5 years on nairaland.
We dont need people to keep asking how does a thread affect anything and keep doing it on almost every thread. If a thread does not "affect anything" or important or relevant to you, simply ignore it and let those who find it important post on it. It is that simple.

If you don't find a thread so important, leave it and click on a thread you like.

No, GEJ handling power himself will not be as good as Nnaji IMO. Really, this should have been avoided.

FamilyRe: Why Are Nigerian Marriages Such A Farce? by OAM4J:
The question is; was is it really better then than it is now? IMO I think the women then just adapted to suffering in silence because the then society/culture expected them to bear all the abuses from men else they are labelled all sorts. Whereas today women will not take those shit from men, not when they know their rights and contribute as much as their men and some even more.

The challenge is marrying the good of the past with the modern realities. But most Naija men are not ready. They still want a partly slave-wife.

May be it will be better/worse for the future generation, this is the transiting generation.
PoliticsState Police Is Inevitable - ACN by OAM4J(op): 5:07am On Aug 30, 2012
Why state police is inevitable, by ACN

FOR the country to effectively tackle the enormous security challenges facing the country, a state police force is a necessity, according to the Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The party said that with the gross failure of the Nigeria Police Force to rise to the widespread security challenges in the country, opposition to state police was waning and the idea should be given due attention.

In a statement in Lagos by the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Joe Igbokwe, the party said that with each opposition to the idea of state police, various challenges arise each day to answer those who do not want the idea to see the light of the day. It advises that no further delay be tolerated in putting the idea into practice.

The statement noted: “When Lagos started and sustained the campaign for state police, our concern then was to have enough well trained capacity to deal with the challenges of ensuring the security of lives and property in a complex state as Lagos. We note that many Nigerians opposed this on clearly partisan reasons and not on the demerits of the demand. We, however, note that with the widespread state of insecurity pervading the country at present, many of those that fiercely opposed the idea of state police have come to see the great and urgent need for it and have become fierce campaigners of the policy.

“We note that through the hard work and proactive inclination of the Lagos State government, the security challenges that prompted the demand for state police in Lagos have been contained while newer theaters of insecurity have arisen to give fillip to the demand. We therefore state that there is a national demand for state police as a panacea for the expanding state of insecurity facing Nigeria at present.

“We demand that as an experiment, state police should be tried in Lagos and two other cities for a period of 10 years and from there, Nigerians will determine the viability or otherwise of the idea of state police. We are saying this because we are mindful of the fact that if Lagos is given such opportunity, the state will build the most efficient, most functional, most responsive, most active and most proactive police force in Africa.”

The statement added: “Lagos ACN wants to state, for the umpteenth time, that the present Nigeria Police are bogged down by monumental problems ranging from redundancy, inadequate training, dearth of equipment, nepotism, incompetence and weal control. These have made the police grossly incompetent to deal with the security problems that are staring Nigeria today. A situation where control of state commands of the Nigerian Police still rests in a central command in Abuja is counterproductive to tackling the security problems of the country at present. We state that a situation where policemen who have little or no knowledge of their operational terrain and culture can only lead to the poor security harvest we are having at present.”

According to ACN, a state security structure will allow respective states to recruit and post policemen to areas they have clear knowledge of the culture and terrain, which are very necessary in tracking crimes and dealing with them.

“We believe that states are more knowledgeable and more competent in dealing with localised crimes in their given areas. We believe that every crime is committed within a given local milieu and are best approached from localised perspectives hence the urgent need for state police if we must effectively deal with the rising security challenges in Nigeria today. We hope those who oppose the idea because of sundry reasons will come to the realisation that the benefits outweigh the risks and support it for the good of all Nigerians.”

PoliticsBuhari To Northern Governors: Tackle Boko-haram Insecurity by OAM4J(op): 5:02am On Aug 30, 2012
Buhari: North’s governors should tackle insecurity

Former Head of State Gen. Muhammadu Buhari yesterday told governors in the North to tackle the insecurity that is crippling the region.

He urged them to adopt measures to end the violence, which has virtually killed the economy of the North.

Fundamentalist sect Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for the wave of violence that has claimed many lives.

Gen. Buhari spoke at the Government House in Kano during a visit to Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The former Head of State said he was worried about the security situation in Kano and Maiduguri. He recalled the volume of commercial activities in Borno and Kano states in the past.

“Kano is known beyond the shores of the country, due largely to its economic status. It’s a centre of commerce. Today, it’s a shadow of itself. The industries are dead and we did not predict this situation until the security crisis in Borno got out of control and this has vastly affected the state of commerce in this traditional city.”

“When I was a governor (in Borno State) I knew the level of influx of foreigners transacting business through the Borno/Chad border down to Kano. From the Maiduguri end, you got traders from Cameroun, from Chad and Niger, all that for now is gone and you try to imagine how many Nigerians, particularly from this part of the country have been pushed into abject poverty.

“His Excellency, given the strategic position of Kano as the centre of commerce in the region, I have the belief that you will do well by ensuring that the situation is addressed as soon as possible,” Buhari told Kwankwaso.

He said he was in Kano to inaugurate the secretariat of his party, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and also look into the conflict among leaders and members, resulting from power tussle.

Buhari condemned the country’s electoral process and accused the managers of gross inconsistency in the administration of the policies and programmes of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that INEC has been prominent in the manipulation of electoral rules. My happiness is that “the only thing they have not been able to change is the content of the Holy Quran.”

“One of INEC’s acts is how to register political associations into political parties and anybody who wants to participate in elective offices from Councillor to President must have a platform, which must be one of the registered parties.

“And these political parties are not supposed to be registered until their manifestoes have satisfied the conditions stipulated in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.

Prior to any election , there must be an Electoral Act, which guides the elections in any society, but in Nigeria, this does not follow,” he said.

Kwankwaso said Gen. Buhari’s visit signified love which should be emulated by opposition leaders.

On security, the governor said the leadership had made tremendous efforts, which are paying off as he admitted that the January violence in Kano was shocking and devastating.

PoliticsOrji Heads Sovereign Wealth Fund by OAM4J(op):
Nigeria: FG Appoints Ex-JP Morgan MD to Head Sovereign Fund

Former Managing Director of JP Morgan Uche Orji has been appointed to run the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Fund (NSWF) for the next five, the Minister of Finance said yesterday.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also said at a press briefing in Abuja that Alhaji Mahey Rasheed will serve as chairman of the board with six other members. Alhaji Rasheed was a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a member of the Board of First Bank.

The minister also named Mrs. Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli as Chief Risk Officer of the fund.

Other members of the board include; Mr. Arnold Ekpe, Mr. Jide Zeitlin, Mrs. Bili Awosika, Barrister Bisi Soyebo and Alhaji Hassan Usman.

The position of the Chief Investment Officer was not announced yesterday because, "upon completion of due diligence, the candidate for Chief Investment Officer has been dropped and the position will be re-advertised shortly," the minister said.

The management team will commence work on October 2, with $1 billion set aside for it.

Okonjo-Iweala said the SWF will run side by side with the Excess Crude Account, which currently has a balance of $7.35 billion.

The initial idea was to close the Excess Crude Account when the SWF takes effect.

Governors had initially opposed the establishment of the SWF but later gave their approval. The governors normally pressurize the president to take certain amounts from the Excess Crude Account for them to share.

The management team were chosen after a process that lasted almost a year.

Before the team was selected, 730 applications were received for three executive positions - Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director (Investments) and Executive Director, (Risk).

Forty of these were listed by KPMG which assisted in sourcing suitable candidates and 16 candidates were short listed before the final three were selected.

With this development, the country is firmly on the path to reaping the benefits of this tried and tested strategy for achieving fiscal prudence and economic transformation.

"The establishment of an institutional foundation for the Sovereign Wealth Fund is a victory for all Nigerians and a credit to the President who assented to the Bill in May last year," the Minister said.

The SWF has three components - Future Generations Fund; Nigerian Infrastructure Fund and Stabilization Fund. Each of the fund will attracts 20 percent of any SWF finding, while "the remaining 40 percent will be decided by the macroeconomic condition of the economy."

TravelRe: Denial Of Licence To Airlines: Oduah Has Sectional Agenda - Rep by OAM4J: 3:39am On Aug 30, 2012
FSU: Volume, my friend, volume. How many non-Igbo traders are there in Nigeria compared to the Igbo ones?
Go to Alaba and other markets all over Nigeria that deal on international (read imported) goods (we are not talking of amala and ewedu) and see who is there.
Agreed many Igbos are traders (even though many more people travel for various other reasons apart from trading) but majority of Igbo businesses are not even located in South East. Like you mentioned Alaba, of what use is the need of Enugu Airport to Igbo businessmen operating in Alaba, Kaduna, Kano and Abuja?

If Enugu route is viable, no minister need to direct the airlines before considering it. Am sure the airlines know the traffic volumes better. Besides the airport has just been re-opened, the minister should allow it gather momentum from local flights 1st, if the volume of local flights is high many of the international airlines will naturally give it considerations.
