4 killed in Boko Haram attacks in Jigawa, Borno,Yobe By ALIYU DANGIDA DUTSE – SOME suspected members of Boko Haram have attacked the Birniwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Jigawa State, killing a teenage girl and injuring a police officer before burning down the building. Birniwa Local Government council shares border with Nguru Local Government of Yobe State where the sect had inflicted pain on the people. Sources told Vanguard that the attackers, numbering about 15, invaded the station, Tuesday night, and shot the police officer on the leg while the teenager was killed by a stray bullet from their encounter with the police. It was gathered that the Boko Haram suspects had a field day in the station as the policemen on duty scampered for safety for fear of being killed. The state Police Commissioner, Mr Hashim Argungun, confirmed the incident, adding that he had ordered an investigations into the matter. Argungun, however, expressed doubts if the attackers were members of the Islamic Boko Haram or hoodlums. This is the first attack by Boko Haram in the state and coming barely three days after President Goodluck Jonathan declared state of emergency in 15 local government areas of Yobe, Borno and Niger states. Sect kills 3 in Yobe Borno In a related development, Police said three people were killed in attacks by a Boko Haram sect despite a state of emergency in parts of the state. samstradam:Nairaland is mainly a forum for discussions and debates. Once people are interested in discussing a topic or we find it worthy of debate, we recommend it for the home page. Seun and the moderators do not determine the views/opinions of the posters. It is left for the posters to agree or disagree with a topic. Also putting a topic on the homepage does not mean Nairaland endorses the topic, we only want people to be aware of the topic and discuss it. For instance if someone opens a thread titled "samstradam is the best poster in the world" and people are willing to discuss it, we will push it to the home page for the debate to attract more participation. It is left for the posters to agree if samstradam is indeed the best poster in the world and why or if the statement is foolish and daft and why. It does not in any way mean Nairaland is endorsing samstradam as the best poster in the world. Nairaland is not for or against GEJ, Buhari, PDP, Fuel Subsidy etc. Nairaland is interested in seeing people discuss every burning issue for the purpose of information and education. So the impact is not really in the topic making it to the home page but the in level of intelligent discussions on the thread. |
talknafree:Ordinarily I should ignore your thread and comments cos of the insults but for the benefit of many like you let me explain. Your threads are not deleted or pushed out of front page. The threads sequence follow stack operations (Last In First Out-LIFO) i.e the last updated thread takes the 1st position. If your thread receives no updates (new posts), new and other threads currently receiving updates will push it down the (stack) page. If a thread is in 50th page as soon as it is updated it comes to the 1st page and keeps going down the stack again till it is updated again. You can google Stack Operations and read more. Cheers. Moderator. NB. If it will make you sleep better, the 2 moderators here are not pro-PDP. |
Remii:Thank you! Its either they are deceiving the gullible people as usual or they are not telling us the whole story. The decree that established PTF under Abacha ensured that a percentage of oil proceed went into PTF account. I honestly don't know which fund SURE Board want to supervise. Just another added cost to already over-bloated cost government - Another waste of time and resources at the expense of Nigerian masses. |
Kolade is not new to dirty jobs in government, am sure he will do their hatchet job well I think he was the chairman of Cadbury when they were cooking their books which led to the sacking of the then Cadbury Managing Director/CEO, Bunmi Oni, and the Finance Director. I have no problem with subsidy removal, but I don't trust a PDP government to make any positive change with the removal. Corruption recycled. |
FG sets up subsidy reinvestment board •Appoints Kolade as board chairman •Belgore to head FG’s negotiating team PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has set up a Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Board and appointed Dr Christopher Kolade as the chairman. Similarly, he has named a high-powered committee headed by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, to meet with the organised labour and all other stakeholders with a view to resolving issues that may arise from the removal of the subsidy on petrol. The Kolade committee is to oversee and ensure the effective and timely implementation of projects to be funded with the savings accruing to the Federal Government from subsidy removal. Major-General Mamman Kontagora (retd) will serve as deputy chairman of the board. According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Board would also include two representatives of the National Assembly, two representatives of the organised labour, one representative of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), one representative of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, one representative of Nigerian women groups, one representative of Nigerian youths, one representative of civil society organisations, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy/Minister of Finance, the Minister of National Planning, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, the Minister of State for Health, the Special Adviser to the President on Technical Matters, and six reputable individuals from the six geopolitical zones in the country, three of whom will be women. It said the mandate of the board shall be to oversee the fund in the petroleum subsidy savings account, and the programmes specifically initiated to improve the quality of life of Nigerians in line with the transformation agenda of the president. It added that the Board would have the following responsibilities: (a) Determine, in liaison with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the subsidy savings estimates for each preceding month and ensure that such funds are transferred to the Funds’ Special Account with the Central Bank of Nigeria. (b) Approve the annual work plans and cash budgets of the various Project Implementation Units (PIUs) within the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and ensure orderly disbursement of funds by the PIUs in order to certify and execute projects. (c) Monitor and evaluate execution of the funded projects, including periodic Poverty and Social Impact Analyses (PSIA). (d) Update the president regularly on the programme. (e)Periodically brief the Executive Council of the Federation on the progress of the programme. (f) Appoint consulting firms with international reputation to provide technical assistance to the board in financial and project management. (g) Appoint external auditors for the fund. (h) Do such other things as are necessary or incidental to the objective of the fund or as may be assigned by the Federal Government. Members of the committee to meet with the organised labour, civil society groups and other stakeholders are the chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State; Governor Mu’azu Aliyu of Niger State; Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State; Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State. The committee, which is expected to begin its work immediately, also includes the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke; Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu; Special Adviser to the President on Inter-party Affairs, Senator Ben Obi and Mrs Ngozi Olajemi.
