Wouldn't the market size of the  Economic Community of the Niger and Benue Rivers be exactly equal to that of the Nigerian Federation?
Economic Community of the Niger and Benue Rivers  is your own creation/terminology. At the end of the day what you are proposing might not be too different from what I suggested. As long as there is an open boarder and many other unifying factors.

Err, what huh Beauty, ke? What does that have to do with what we are talking about? grin
Wont you envy me if I have 4 wives, 1 Yoruba, 1 Hausa, 1 Igbo and another Ijaw compare to your 4 all Ekiti wives  grin

But. . . we are very happy with the status quo in the US. There aren't really separatist movements. It isn't one size fits all. That Nigeria is better off splitting doesn't mean the US is too. Or if you think Nigeria should stay one, does that mean the US and Canada should merge into one country? The US and Canada have FAAAAR more cultural and ethnic similarity than say Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. Yet they are happy as two separate countries. Why is it by force for Nigeria to remain one?
But US didn't achieve this status quo in 50 years. In the beginning you know it was not much different.

Actually I will probably not vote against splitting if there is a referendum to the effect. But like Nadanbata said we can not guarantee our present crop of leaders will allow it. So lets start by continuing  agitating for a weaker center, true federalism and resource control. These are more realistic IMO.

It is one of the reason I also support regional parties controlling their regions so we will only come to the center to negotiate. Imagine ACN in charge of SW, APGA in charge of SE, CPC in charge of the North and PDP fin charge of  SS and NC, we will be closer to true federalism than having PDP in charge of 28 states out of 36.

Maybe grammar is my problem. I think in Ijebu, so conversion sometimes means some things are lost in translation. grin

But I bet one can say the region rigged considering it was premeditated and elections officials were attacked for attempting to stop under-age voters. The region looked for a way to have an advantage.
But the entire Northern region didn't vote for one party. there was no state CPC has 85% total vote casts unlike other regions. In some states like Kano and Kaduna PDP got more than 30%.

So we cannot say a region rigged. Abeg find another grammar jor grin
What practical difference is there between that and splitting up? Why not just divide? They are the same thing. . . except you have to deal with an additional layer of bureaucracy at the center.

Why not cut out that additional layer?

The above federation you propose, why wouldn't it be better to just have a customs union of some sort instead? NAFTA, essentially?
You are forgetting a fact that our population size is still a plus for us. For instance, our market size attracts foreign investments. Besides there is beauty in our diversity.

Tell me, will you prefer US as it is or do you think each state will fair better on its own?

Surely, I agree you cannot blame it on any party and have to blame it on INEC. grin

But it happened in the stronghold of CPC, so one can only reasonably, logically and rationally  grin assume that it was the strongholder that benefited the most.

Actually, my under-age estimates is more about circa 10m, I just allocated, conservatively, 5m to the benefit of Buhari and the remaining 5 distributed between the other three.

The reality is that the under-age voting is worse than the rigging levels the retaard is complaining about.

Simple!

Most Nigerians are illiterates or quarter-baked.

They do not understand the concept of NASS and see them as insignificant small fry, so they don't care. They mainly care about the top-dog.
Yeah, benefited sounds more appropriate than rigged.  grin

Breaking apart to me is not the solution. decentralization, resource control and true federalism will solve more than 70% of our problems.

I like this piece from Sanusi, it is an interesting read for those of you who have not read it before.

Sanusi Lamido Faults Sir Olaniwun Ajayi On Northern Domination

The Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, surprised guests present at the Muson Centre for the launching of the book of Sir Olaniwun Ajayi at the Muson Centre in Lagos.

The book titled: “Nigeria, Africa’s failed asset?” attracted many important dignitaries, intellectuals and some governors.

“Let me start by saying that I am Fulani (laughter). My grandfather was an Emir and therefore I represent all that has been talked about this afternoon. Sir Ajayi has written a book. And like all Nigerians of his generation, he has written in the language of his generation.

“My grandfather was a Northerner, I am a Nigerian. The problem with this country is that in 2009, we speak in the language of 1953. Sir Olaniwun can be forgiven for the way he spoke, but I can not forgive people of my generation speaking in that language.

“Let us go into this issue because there are so many myths that are being bandied around.

Before colonialism, there was nothing like Northern Nigeria. Before the Sokoto Jihad, there was nothing like the Sokoto caliphate. The man from Kano regard himself as bakane. The man from Zaria was bazazzage. The man from Katsina was bakatsine. The kingdoms were at war with each other. They were Hausas, they were Muslims, they were killing each other.

“The Yoruba were Ijebu, Owo, Ijesha, Akoko, Egba. When did they become one? When did the North become one? You have the Sokoto Caliphate that brought every person from Adamawa to Sokoto and said it is one kingdom. They now said it was a Muslim North.

“The Colonialists came, put that together and said it is now called the Northern Nigeria. Do you know what happened? Our grand fathers were able to transform to being Northerners. We have not been able to transform to being Nigerians. The fault is ours.

Tell me, how many governors has South West produced after Awolowo that are role models of leadership? How many governors has the East produced like Nnamdi Azikiwe that can be role models of leadership? How Many governors in the Niger Delta are role models of leadership? Tell me. There is no evidence statistically that any past of this country has produced good leaders.

You talk about Babangida and the economy. Who were the people in charge of the economy during Babangida era? Olu Falae, Kalu Idika Kalu. What state are they from in the North?

“We started the banking reform; the first thing I heard was that in Urobo land, that there will be a curse of the ancestors. I said they (ancestors) would not answer. They said why? I said how many factories did Ibru build in Urobo land? So, why will the ancestors of the Urobo people support her?

“We talk ethnicity when it pleases us. It is hypocrisy. You said elections were rigged in 1959, Obasanjo and Maurice Iwu rigged election in 2007. Was it a Southern thing? It was not.

“The problem is: everywhere in this country, there is one Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba and Itshekiri man whose concern is how to get his hands on the pile and how much he can steal.

Whether it is in the military or in the civilian government, they seat down, they eat together. In fact, the constitution says there must be a minister from every state.

“So, anybody that is still preaching that the problem of Nigeria is Yoruba or Hausa or Fulani, he does not love Nigeria. The problem with Nigeria is that a group of people from each and every ethnic tribe is very selfish. The poverty that is found in Maiduguri is even worse than any poverty that you find in any part of the South. The British came for 60 years and Sir Ajayi talked about few numbers of graduates in the North (two at independence). What he did not say was that there was a documented policy of the British when they came that the Northerner should not be educated. It was documented. It was British colonial policy. I have the document. I have published articles on it. That if you educate the Northerner you will produce progressive Muslim intellectuals of the type we have in Egypt and India. So, do not educate them. It was documented. And you say they love us (North).

“I have spent the better part of my life to fight and Dr. (Reuben) Abati knows me. Yes, my grandfather was an Emir. Why was I in the pro-democracy movement fighting for June 12? Is (Moshood) Abiola from Kano? Why am I a founding director of the Kudirat Initiative for Nigerian Development (KIND)?

“There are good Yoruba people, good Igbo people, good Fulani people, good Nigerians and there are bad people everywhere. That is the truth.

“Stop talking about dividing Nigeria because we are not the most populous country in the world. We have all the resources that make it easy to make one united great Nigeria. It is better if we are united than to divide it.

“Every time you talk about division, when you restructure, do you know what will happen? In Delta, Area, the people in Warri will say Agbor, you don’t have oil. When was the Niger Delta constructed as a political enlity? Ten years ago, the Itshekiris were fighting the Urobos. Isn’t that what was happening? Now they have become Niger Delta because they have found oil. After, it will be, if you do not have oil in your village then you can not share our resources.

“There is no country in the world where resources are found in everybody’s hamlet. But people have leaders and they said if you have this geography and if we are one state, then we have a responsibility for making sure that the people who belong to this country have a good nature.

“So, why don’t you talk about; we don’t have infrastructure, we don’t have education, we don’t have health. We are still talking about Fulani. Is it the Fulani cattle rearer or is anybody saying there is no poverty among the Fulani?”, he said

So the 5m+ under-age voters from the north is not rigging?
While am not in support of gadogado's post. I have refrained myself from  commenting on the allegation that Buhari rigged with under-age voters, but because its Saga raising it here I can discuss it with you. cheesy

Technically, the under-age rigging cannot be blamed on any party but INEC that registered them and we are also not sure which party they voted for or if they are divided among all the parties.

Except someone has a concrete evidence that a particular party bribed INEC, mobilized these under-age voters to register and vote for this particular party, it will be wrong to claim a party rigged with under-age voters.

I wish to humbly request that the Northern Muslims on Nairaland should be demembered immediately as they have once again shown us that they are not Nigerians by killing southern Nigerians. Youth copers serving in their domain were killed for being Christians, lectures and southern students were also killed, churches were burnt and southern businesses were looted.
From my understanding Nairaland land is a forum for friends of Nigeria and Nigerians therefore it is only fair to banish the enemies of Nigeria that is the North from this forum as this might be an avenue to spy on us.
I will be most grateful if my request is granted.

Yours
Sincerely
N. D

On behalf of Nigeria and her friends.
How will NL go about your 'demembering' request? Force everyone to declare his/her state of origin so the Northerners can be banned? or put out a notice and order all members from the North to log out?

Even if possible, why should we punish a whole region because of the crime of few? What about millions of Northerners who hated the killings and didn't participate in the crime, are they guilty by association?

I hope you will soon write UN to dismember Nigeria because of the many fraudulent people in the country. You should be writing our commander in chief to fish out the criminals and enforce peace and not NL officials.

Accept my heartfelt sympathy!

@OP

Enough of politicizing the whole thing. the fact is that our Northern brothers are easily provoked. Today it is about the loss of an election, tomorrow it might be because someone insults the Quran.

What is needful is for the government to find solution to the problem. Beyond asking Buhari to call the people to oder and sacking a minister, it does not speak well of our Cin C's inability to curtail these violences in 3days. We do not need Odi's approach but am sure there are solutions to these problems. And about time the Government deal decisively with people responsible for these violences everywhere to avoid a repeat.

Like Jerry Ghana will say "Let our Commander in Chief chiefly command well".

eeya sorry to hear about the Lagos gbewiris

seriously though you can build something with 3M. there is a thread on the property section where we are all following a guy build his 6 bedroom duplex and so far he is going great.

The guy was in the same situation as you before and what he did was to build those shacks and rented it out to stop the land from being "stolen".
In Lagos, your property will be rented within a twinkle of an eye and then when you are ready, you pull down the shack and build on your land.

Depending on the area, you can build face me I face you and you will have people coming up to you enquiring about renting it the moment you put blocks down. The desperate ones will even offer to do the finishing of the house, so long as they can move in.

The problem with money is that is is very flighty and if you dont pin it down, it likes to fly. I found out a long time ago that money left in my account is unsafe wink
Thanks. I get you point.

How is your sister doing? Tell her I say 'hi' wink
PoliticsRe: Calling All CPC Supporters by OAM4J: 5:08pm On Apr 20, 2011
Hopefully CPC will win some states in the North and have some performing young men like Fashola in the affairs of those states.

These young men with the likes of El rufai can take the party to the next level, cos I will expect the People's General to retire soon from active politics at least by 2015.

I just hope there would be enough mobilization in the North and the turnout will be like last Saturday so CPC can capture at least 5/6 states.

CPC only came up the ladder only on the sentiments of the Buhari personality.

Since the old man is not going to Aso Rock, CPC will just die a natural death. Mind you, there party has no structures, I mean they have no national presence.

I keep wondering why people are suprised that he lost, the presence of his party in the South South and South East are next to nothing.
Wait until they win some state governorship seats by Saturday and watch the performances of these governors in the next 2 years before you come to such conclusion.

Not many people knew there was a performing Fashola in 2006 until he became Governor and started performing and IMO he is a major reason ACN is doing well in SW.

The worst that can happen to CPC is that it might become a strong regional party like ACN and with strong, truthful and sincere alliances they can dislodge PDP

And dont forget we still have the likes of El Rufai, Yinka Odumakin  and other Notable young men of integrity in the party.

Just give me the money to hold for you. I am trustworthy  cool

[s]Finally I am going to get the balance for my X5 [/s]

Seriously the first thing you need is someone you can trust, very hard I know but there are still a number of good people around.

Try and invest in something where you can easily monitor inflow and outflow, so things like a barbing salon and Sky vewing centre and generator rental services etc are a no no.

I would proably say buy land and rent it out to a farmer, mechanic, car wash etc or build small small shops on it.

The profit margin may not be enormous but you will be getting more for it than if you left it in the bank plus the appreciation on the land.

If you really have the balls you can buy some cows and employ a cattle rearer to rear them and sell but you are on your own o! You will just hear one story that the cows eat mango and died. shocked

The big big profit businesses tend to cone with big big risk and since you are not on ground to monitor it they will just be chopping the americana money miss road guy (or so they seem to think)  grin
At the end of the day you left me with no option than to leave the money in ma account.

The land thing would have make sense, but you wouldn't believe it, despite the fact that I am 'omo onile gan gan' from lagos I lost one of my precious plots of land to others, my lil sister also lost a land that has an already laid foundation on it. I am not on ground, my dad is late and I dont want nobody kill my mama for me cos of land, so I told her to let that one go and sell the other ones before we lose them. It is that bad in Lagos. The only way you can secure a land is to buy and build immediately. 3M will not do that.

Anyway a good part of the money already gone to charity, I have no regret over that, better than someone swindled me of it. cool

Yes, you're dam right I'm serious.

How does polygamy increase or decrease a population. Do the people of the SE practice polygamy? Do the people of the MB? (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm not saying it's the number one problem NIgeria is dealing with. I'm saying those two problem Nigeria OUGHT to deal with.
I know that my #1 abusers will be men. No problem.
But how has polygamy served NIgeria?

Are you disputing #2? Stop marrying them at an age so young. Let them grow, let them go to school. Young marriage and sometimes forced marriage is a major problem Norther NIgeria is dealing with. Our youth are giving birth to children, being prevented to get education for the better of this nation.

Why do you think we have millions of almajiris rotting in the North?
More wives more children nau, then the population grows.

But why are you afraid sef? You dey fear you guy will consider wife no-2?
