I used to be so keen on Nigeria as a viable destination for investment capital. I promoted the NSE to friends and colleagues alike, even making a pitch to the investment bank where I work. I invested in land somewhere in Lekki, engaging a "reputable" lawyer introduced to me by a friend. The rest they say is history. The two plots of land I acquired have been the subject of omo onile dispute for the past two years. I've written off my N5 million investment as bad debt. The stock market is no exception. Lack of disclosure and greed has resulted in the implosion of the NSE while other stock markets are rebounding.

I can't think of a single investment in Nigeria that has worked for me following tens of millions I invested there over the past 5 years.

I find it's impossible to trust Nigerians, particularly those residing in Nigeria. Everyone is desperate to be paid for work they hardly do, or do very badly. Most irritatingly, they often act as though they're doing you a favour! They could reap you off and then blame you for one thing or the other!

I vowed never to invest a cent in Nigeria again, unless it's money I make in Nigeria.

Sorry for the negative, but just thought I'd warn you, as Nigeria, has to be one of the most risky destinations for capital on earth (Unless you have major goverment or executive contacts)
Brother, I understand every thing you said. It is such a shame. How can we continue like this? looks like we have been investing in same portfolio in naija. land with omo oniles problem, I don’t want to even mention stocks, set up a bizness that was mess up by a relation. Just too bad! How can a nation develop like this? Sometimes the faults is not just in our leaders, I know so many of my friends who would have love to invest here in Nigeria, but for lack of honest men. Everyone of them is saying same thing; don’t want to trust anyone and want to be able to monitor it. And justices here is also zero in case things go wrong, that is why I don’t believe just signing agreement with a lawyer is enough.

But it’s bad and sad. We are our own biggest problem!!!

lol, hmnnnm I get u. cheesy. Now the guys are talking cheesy

Is like I left some part out. Her needs are genuine and real, she is not a bad girl trying to suck me or take advantage of me. I wouldn’t have given her a dime if I know her demands are not real. She is without a job, relation and she broke up with her bf. I know her ex. Am just not interested in a relationship with her (fling or serious) and I don’t also want to take up her responsibilities or be her cash machine. Am willing to assist once in a while not all the time. Already because of my 'mr nice' she is getting emotional with me and I want that to stop.

I am no mugu. If she is a sucker, her number would have left my fone since.

@ poster.
I will advise you that nigeria market is saturated with different kind of business already.I hv a friend who was also in your shoes some months ago.He was thinking of stuffs to bring in.The advice i gave him was to go to Mowe and invest in land properties. My dear u will never in your life regret going into ds business. You dont need any family or friends to monitor for you let alone someone cheating you.
Just go to interior Mowe and buy like a hectare with that amount and in like 5yrs from now, ican bet you are going to be counting your millionssssssssssss in folds.
Dont get urself invoved in any buying and selling. Also withdraw your money from bank cos the rate at which banking industry is going now, dont allow any thing stupid to happen to your money. Also whn u keep money in bank ,u are indirecting giving the bank your benefit since the stipent they call interest amounts to nothing while they trade with your own money and make millions from it.
This is just my opinion.
Adios Amigo.
Thanks. You did not factor in the omo oniles. They made me sell my land in Okota when their wahala became too much.

Long and Short of it: You cannot MONITOR business in Nigeria from abroad.

You simply cannot trust anyone even your own family!

This is one of the key reasons, Nigeria has not made progress like China and India!

Bros, Just fixed d money in govt Bond, Fix deposit etc and go to sleep. Dont trust anybody. I once trusted my Pastor and a xtian Brother with "Good amount". I have since heard of more than 4 differents versions of how they were robbed of the money.
I cant make that mistake again or allow anybody to do same.

Real Estate is good, only when you are sure the land in question is free from Omo onile probs.
I feel you my sister. Trust is so scarce these days. I cannot even trust my relatives. And in Nigeria where justice is far fetched, even when you have all the facts in your hand, you might still not get justice. I have made mistakes b4, will not make another one. For me once beaten is triple shy.

Why not put a gun to his head if you want him dead?[/quote]Nobody prays/wants him dead. But he should just resign, that is the right thing to do. So that someone who is fit and able can continue the work. Nigeria is sick and cannot afford a sick President. Besides if he resigns, he would be able to concentrate on his health.

PoliticsRe: Yar’adua Admitted To Saudi Hospital - We Are Still Running Tests - Doctor by OAM4J: 3:20am On Nov 25, 2009
Pointblanknews.com had exclusively reported how President Yar'Adua had suffered a seizure midway into the ECOWAS Heads of State meeting at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja recently and was rushed to the Hotels toilet for treatment.

He had also collapsed in Bauchi State while attending a ceremony organized by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to welcome Governor Isa Yuguda, an in-law to the President who decamped to the ruling party.

President Yar'Adua has been diagnosed with Churg Straus Syndrome, an inflammations of the Blood vessel, a Kidney problem and yet to be confirmed Pulmonary Fibrosis for which he has at various times visited Saudi Arabia and Germany for treatments.

The recent development is increasingly causing panick within the PDP as it prepares to seek a re-election for the ailing President.

FamilyRe: Broken Engagement: Who Should Get The Ring? by OAM4J: 2:03am On Nov 25, 2009
It is very wrong for a woman to buy herself the engagement ring…in my world men proposes marriage with an engagement ring. I have no respect/regard to a ring you buy for yourself because I propose to you.

But since she bought it she can keep it, after all she bought/gave it to herself, so she owns it. Since the guy never gave it, he cannot collect it back.

This is simply funny. The power minister said the 6000mw by December is unrealistic. Even if they are able to generate and transmit 6000mw, will that be sufficient to stop all the industries from using generators. Sometimes I think these people just talk without thinking.
FamilyRe: Broken Engagement: Who Should Get The Ring? by OAM4J: 1:12am On Nov 25, 2009
Don’t also forget in engagement it’s only the man that gives out a ring, but in marriage they exchange rings.
