FamilyRe: Broken Engagement: Who Should Get The Ring? by OAM4J: 1:11am On Nov 25, 2009
Fhemmy I have to agree with Mama-gee and Michellin. An engagement ring is more than a gift. It’s a symbol of a promise. If the promise is broken, then the ring has lost is significant, it is only proper it be returned to the giver. In the case of divorce couples, it’s usually unnecessary to return the ring because in this case the ring is not a promise but a broken covenant. None of the couple is expected to still be wearing the ring or use it to consummate another relationship, neither would they want to sell it, because of it’s significant. So divorced couples only keep the ring as a reminder of broken covenant or they just throw it away

Thank you everyone. for all the post and offers I received in my mail box.

The only reliable option I still have now is to fix the money. Actually the money is in a fixed deposit account right now.

For those of you advising me to invest in lands, well i did that before somewhere in Okota Lagos, the Omo oniles disregarded my fence and was about selling the land, before info reach me. I had to sell the land for peace of mind.

I would not mind buying a house. But I guess 3m will be too small to get one. But if any one knows a property (with verifiable documents) in a good location within that amount. Please let me know.

Thanks

But madam i have followed up this your story from the begining. In as much as i advice you to forget about it and move on, there are few question asked by some folks here to ascertain the real truth of the matter, but you have not answered them. The most important one being, did you report this issue with US or german embassy in Nigerian since you are citizen of both? What was their reaction to it, if ever you did? If ever you never reported it them, why did you chose not to report it to people who is supposed to protect you and your rights in Nigeria there?
You just took the question from my mouth. i was wondering why she didnt answer the question. Because every other agency might be biased including efcc, but your embassy will/must protect your interest. So we want to know, did you involve them? if yes what did they do/say?

Well in the end itcwill be up to you weather or not she uses you. If you like giving away your money fine, but if you had none would she still be your friend. Look at it that way. Don't tell you about you money situation. I wish I could find a guy that was so nice for nothing in return. Alot of women would love that. But all in all there is no nice way for telling someone to stop using you.
Thanks, I get your point.

So how did she know that? You must have let it slip in the course of your conversations that you have a lot of money to throw away!
I made the mistake of telling her where I work. So it's easy for her to put 1 and 1 together to get 2, if you know what i mean.
It think it should be clearly noted that the promise was not an injection of fresh 6000mw into the national grid courtesy of Yar'adua administration but to generate some megawatts added to the existing one to make up 6000mw. Maybe, somebody can give us an insight on what the last regime handed over to these guys so that we can correctly appreciate their lack of capacity to deliver.
When Obj was leaving, they were generating more than 3000mw. Suddenly after Yar'adua came in, it went down to 2000mw. They promised to generate and distribute 6000mw by Dec 2009. Today they are generating 3500mw after 2 years. What an achievement!!!

I don’t know if this is the right forum to ask this.

There is this Nigerian girl I met some few months ago, we chatted for a while and exchange nos. Ever since then she has been calling me asking for one financial favor or the other (usually nothing much) which I always oblige. Now I feel its getting too much and I am not interested in any serious relationship with her. I don’t know how to lie that I can’t afford her requests anymore (I know she will also not believe me) and I don’t also want to insult/embarrass her by just saying NO (guess am too soft). Anyway is there a nice, non embarrassing way I can stop her requests?

Politics6,000mw Of Electricity Supply By Dec May Be Unrealistic - Minister Of Power by OAM4J(op): 7:51am On Nov 23, 2009
The December deadline promised by the Federal Government to generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity supply may have eventually been a mirage as only 3,500 megawatts have so far be generated.

The indication to this was disclosed by the Minister of Power, Dr Olanrewaju Babalola, in an interactive session with newsmen during his official visit to Gereku power station located at Ajaokuta, Kogi State, at the weekend.

Dr Babalola revealed that power generation, as at the weekend, stood at 3,500mw but explained that the most important thing being put in place was to have efficient power system, “whether we realise the 6,000 or 10,000mw and this is what we are trying to do.”

While submitting that the Federal Government was committed to improving power supply in the country, the minister said that efforts were in top gear to ensure 100 per cent connection of the power generated to the grid.

Speaking on solar energy as an alternative power supply, Babalola, who lauded the technology, however, said that solar energy as designed could only deliver a fraction of what was expected, stressing that the energy was not as efficient as it should be, particularly, in urban areas, adding that its components could not be sourced locally.

Elisabet, did u involve the American Embassy in Nigeria in the whole issue, especially when you went to Nigeria? If so what role did they play?

If not I think they (the embassy) are in the best position to help you. If all you claimed are true and genuine, the embassy will help you.

Trust me, if American embassy says you have no case against him and they are unable to help you, then you are HELPLESS. I will say forget him and move on with your life.

Malam Ribadu also bared his mind on the possible future: "Well, I am waiting to see what will happen and I am writing. Basically, the point is, nobody knows the future and nothing lasts forever. No one knows the future and the future is in the hands of God. If you had asked me, would I be caged out of my family and live in a foreign land for doing the right thing for my country, I would say no. If you had told me before that I would be chased out of my family for doing what is right I would say no. But God knows what the future is for all of us and God will decide at the best time. For me, my future is in the hands of Almighty God, and there is God, and God is watching everything that is happening.
Nuhu, I agree with you so much on the highlighted. Nothing last forever, and I am equally waiting to see what will happen next.

@ Post

Human beings are imperfect hence the imperfect love. There is something about real and honest love that makes those imperfections and affections almost super human.
Marrying for children isnt right either as they are blessings from God and so what if he decides not to bless you with them? Or you have children with some sort of disability?

Marry for love that makes sense, the one that is honest and above all real and not some fantasy. Companionship comes into play as well. Understanding and nothing beats that special bond one shares with their partner. Marry for your own reason and not for what someone else wants!
Even when/where this true love and companionship you talk about exist, cant people just remain lovers? Must they marry?

BTW where is phemmy?

Again you take too many things for granted.

Remember that when marriage was institutionalized, it wasn't religious. The first marriages were in court.

Sex outside marriage is not frowned upon by religion alone, but some cultures simply don't accept it as part of their traditions.
Not taking anything for granted. I make my position in the light of today’s reality and today’s cultural standards cool

Hope this debate is not affecting, the daughter I spoke about, if for the sake of the daughter I might change my stand o. grin

N101:
Marriage pre-dates Christianity and Islam
I agree with you 100%.

N101:
you forget the ethics and mores of a community or society is a determining factor in people's attitude towards marriage.
I did not forget. I as I have stated this in one of my earlier posts. But I hope you know that even societies/communities have changed their values and believes (especially towards marriage)

N101:
Even if "God" permitted all married people to divorce and sex outside of marriage was the acceptable norm, be guaranteed people will still marry and people will still not sex outside of marriage.  There will ALWAYS be people who will go against the grain according to their own ethics and conscience, irregardless of a belief system.
Again I agree with you. Only that the people you are refering to will be withing the 5% margin I stated. In the light of today's experiences, standards and values
