Just so you know how this Heebo mentality is hurting Nigeria's image abroad. I was in South Africa this summer and they hate Nigerians, why? because of you useless Igbos and your shady ways. first of all I.D.I.O.T, why don't you point out where i stated that I am from Lagos.  I am a proud Ondo, so please put the shut to the up. This is a Igbos vs Yoruba battle, not a state battle, but since one of your fellow Igbos decided to mention lagos in his argument in reference to the yoruba, this is why I started using Lagos. When I say our land, I mean all our Land. Your fellow Igbos are in Ondo state in droves, so when I sad that I am including all over yoruba land not Lagos alone, you got it?

who the hell cares that the capital was moved from Abuja to Lagos. I haven't meant one Yoruba that give a damn. The point is we don't give a damn Lagos is still thriving with or without capital. Lagos is probably thriving without being the capital than it was under one. This is a none issue for me. They can move the capital to Niger delta for all I care. why should I care? Now the question is why are your people all over yoruba land? Stay away from our damn land.

I'll rather die on my feet then live on my knees!

That is the difference between an Igbo man and a Yoruba man. While you all are slaves to the Hausa, no Hausa can dare say we are his slaves. We rather not become the president, and be a slave to the Northern elite. Remember that.

No one fears you Yoruba houseboys to the Hausa. You all can't fight. The Hausa can fight, you all can't. We Igbos took on all of you in Biafra and we can do it again. That is why you all go crazy when you Biafra. Because you all know the Igbo can bring Nigeria to its knees again. What should have taken months to bring us back into the fold, but it took YEARS to bring us back. Foolish Yoruba.

You all were upset when Abiola could not make his dream come true and you all threatened secession, but you all didn't do anything. When Abacha who always hated the Yoruba were killing your people, you all did nothing! Yorubas talk way too much. But can never do anything but run behind someone stronger. Learn to fight your own battles, because the Hausa do not see you all as equals.
Foolish Yoruba or you meant to say Foolish Igbos? That is yall Zap.I.N.G problem.  Yorubas people are smart o. Instead of using war to achieve our means, we use political power to achieve our means. We are peaceful people, but you can't run us over. Igbo people swear they are the baddest and toughest group yet still at the bottom of the barrel. Like I said, how many years has it been since we had an Ibo president? Why fight our battles when Hausa man can fight it for us? Abeg, we want our people to live long not be killed by hunger and genocide like your people were. It's called being smart. Maybe Ibo people can learn a thing or do, don't fight war that you know you can't win, and then stay bitter about it 50 yrs later

jensinmi:
To those who say this is bad belle - I beg to differ.

As a Nigerian who lived in Kuwait for 11 years, I'd like to let you know that the article is at least 90% accurate in its depiction of not only Dubai but some of the other GCC countries.

The formula is quite simple. Recruiting Agencies travel to 3rd world countries to find people interested in working in Dubai. They sign a contract to pay them a certain amount. Let us say $500 a month. Once those unfortunate folks enter the country, their passports are collected and they are hired out to various companies. In Kuwait for example, it was mostly Indians and Bangladeshis. These people often worked 10 to 12 hours a day and would then be handed salaries sometimes as low as $80 per month. This was the same for construction companies and for companies that hired out maids. You can't leave, you can't complain since you are only considered half the human being a citizen is. You can't go to court cause the clan-based culture of these societies makes sure their judges always favor their own people.

Now,  think about it. How can you come to a country to work as a maid and be used for 12 to 16 hours a day and end up being paid $60 a month. Even in Nigeria, it becomes easy to see why you can't do much with that if you have family back home expecting you to send them cash.

The excuse of most of these citizens and companies give is -  "We provide you feeding, housing and transportation,  so,  we are extremely kind to even give you any money". See it as you may but that was not the agreement these people signed before leaving their countries.

Now,  all this may seem fine but when you compare it with the living standards of the citizens, you start to see a difference. The average Kuwait will get free education, be guaranteed a job after graduating, will get a house upon marriage and so many other perks. As a medical student in Kuwait, the average 5th year and above Kuwaiti student now gets $1500 cash paid to their bank accounts as allowances on the 21st of each month. This is despite the free education and sometimes free books made available to the students. Yet,  the staff who work to clean the same classrooms these student sit in will get there as early as 5:30am each morning on buses from their hostels (prisons), work till 5pm, be again packed unto the buses and carted away and at the end of the month receive $70. Why?? Simply because of their nationality or race. They are denied contact with the citizens or expatriates and unless in the most extreme cases denied health care or any contact with the world outside their work environment.

In some GCC countries, the citizens don't do manual labor. Office work is the norm. They go there. Sit down and leave after 4 hours of so of work. Some will receive several thousand dollars for their efforts. Now,  why is it OK to pay another human being only $70 a month when you have been blessed with so much. No taxes. No electricity, water, or phone bills in most cases. Yet people need to be so selfish that they look down on, sexually assault, batter and sometimes murder foreign nationals in their employ.

In Kuwait, It is typical to see a family consisting of Father, Mother and two children with 3 Nannies, 1 gardener, 2 drivers all working for the same family. The mother has no need to do anything. Neither do the children cause they have people who they can pay to do that. And if you don't pay them, What are they gonna do?? Call the police?? All the policemen are your kinsmen. You have the staff members passport. They can't leave. If they run away, you have the police hunt them down and bring them back.

How does this relate to Nigeria. Well,  I guess the only thing I can say is that it warns us to be careful. We are also a  third world country. Because the target of these opportunists are currently Indians, Bangladeshis, Somalis, Ethiopians etc does not mean our people cannot fall victim. Another thing is that we as human beings have a duty to one another. To condemn what is wrong and to promote what is right. What these countries are doing is wrong.

Contrary to popular opinion in Nigeria, there are worse situations in this world than living in Nigeria.

Luckily,  In my time In Kuwait, I saw almost no Nigerians trapped in Kuwait by such methods. I do know of two or three that almost fell victim before they were advised to stay back home in Nigeria. I have no doubt that there are Nigerian woman in Dubai now,  trapped there and involved in sexual slavery. Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.

Dubai seems to be  a more extreme situation than seen in some GCC countries but this is quite widespread there. This is slavery and it is wrong. My only question is why should people who have so much be so unwilling to share it with others??

RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT IT IS WORSE IN A LOT OF PLACES YOU LEAST EXPECT.
wow, somebody speaking the truth. You have all this people in here that have never step in any GCC countries blaming the journalist because he spoke the truth. People are forcefully being put in slavery and the government is not doing anything about it.  Their stupid government actually supports this inhumane treatment. How can anybody that read that article have no sympathy. The fact that this men are tricked out of their countries to become slaves it's a crime in itself and the fact that the government encourages such act is despicable. People should stop comparing this to the west. In the western world, if the government hear of something like this, whoever is in charge would be in jail by now. In many of the GCC countries, the government is actually the one encouraging this act.

The point of that article is that what Dubai is doing will not sustain them economically in the future.

Iya Basira, logically and not in too many words, why do you think that the man choose to abandon the "big money" wifey who lives in Abuja and marry another woman.
since you nairalanders love to quote bible scriptures so much, let me help you out with one. Fornication and adultery is a sin o. I am surprise that the same person that says women must submit according to the bible is now saying the men is not at fault after commiting adultery and probably fornication.

Heb 13:4 "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

(Matthew 5:27-28) 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’
28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

(Matthew 19:9) 9 I tell you that whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery.”"

Galatians 5:21) 21 envyings, murders, drunkenness, sin assemblies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:3-5) 3 But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints;
4 nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks.
5 Know this for sure, that no sexually immoral person, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and God.

stop picking and choosing what part of the bible you want to hear. What that man did to his wife according to the bible is wrong and he will be judged by God because  of that.

Make una no vex ooo! Why bi say na wetin dem say make Nigeria women do (for Bible) dey always bring controversy. For example:

Covering of hair?
I am yet to meet a man who questions why he should remove his cap (to honour God) whenever he wants to pray. But the woman argues that wearing her head gear is not compulsory while praying. Dem say e no mean.

Wearing of trouser?
Don’t even go there. If you talk am you be ancient pastor. That is an “ancient, outdated and barbaric” way to serve God. Serving God na mind e dey.  Abi women? But Nigeria men no go even try am wear skirt as far dem don see am say the Bible say make men no wear female clothing.

Submit to your husband?
Which husband? Is he my God? You hear things like:
But these women are super regulars in big churches like Redeem where their Mama in Christ Covers her hair while praying, Never wear trousers and always submit to her husband. But why?

Na question I ask oooo!
it is only African men that loves to argue about crap like this. I have never seen a white or Asian men complain about their women wearing trousers or not covering their head.  Why do you care? This is not a serious matter. Their are more serious matter in life than covering their hair. *sigh*African mentality is the reason why Africa is the way it is now.
