Car Talk / Re: Tesla Car With Hilarious Number Plate In Lagos TRENDING, IVM JOINED by Oba234: 3:32am On Aug 19, 2022
TheOgaBoss:
oga stop sounding stupid, how many kw does it take to fully charge a Tesla? Even if u were fully discharging and charging it back up daily (which is unlikely) u still will not spend 2600 dollars on utility a month. The irony is that u actually think u are making sense not knowing u are exposing ur stupidity in a public forum.

I live in the US and my neighbor has a Tesla. He built a Tesla charging port in his garage and his monthly electric bill only went up by about $40. Where is this person quoting $2600. I know multiple people with Teslas around me and it’s quite cheaper to charge than buying fuel.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Boris Johnson Officially Resigns As UK Prime Minister by Oba234: 3:35pm On Jul 07, 2022
Ojuntana:
Putin must be laughing his socks off now

The way BJ carry the Ukraine matter for head like gala, you go think his wife is from Ukraine or maybe that's where they buried his umbilical cord

Britian was the first country to send weapons to Ukraine and BJ was the most vocal of the "Russia must not take Ukraine No matter What" gang even while sensible countries like France, Turkey were urging restraint and calm minds. Now Ukraine will require $750bn to rebuild whenever Russia decides he's had enough of bombing them to smithereens.

Though I strongly suspect he was using that strongman personae to shore up his image and douse attention from the many scandals and mismanagement facing the UK under him

Albeit he still remains a popular politician and may make a comeback in the future

But for now, it is Putin 1:0 West

This is what democracy looks like. Not the one in Russia in which the same man has been in power for 22yrs and half of his country lives in poverty. This decision to step down reaffirms democratic values in the UK, the complete opposite of what Russia is spreading. Boris is the same man that brought the UK out of the EU that is now being forced to resign. While Johnson's solid military support of Ukraine is great, objectively Boris was a pawn like Donald Trump in their long-haul strategy of flooding western politics will "unique" characters to cause chaos, e.g. Brexit. Good riddance to Boris.

The Russian Rubble that the west said will be as worthless as a tissue paper is now far stronger than what it was before the war.
Russia is not a dull country, they are smart and calculative.
They are well prepared even before the war.
They prepared for the Sanctions and are showing no signs of the sanctions affecting them.
The oil companies that pulled out of Russia are licking their wounds. While the Chinese energy companies are taking advantage of it.
Less you forget, Russia is a communist country and the first man to introduce communism was Joseph in the bible and it was to fight hardship.
Upon all the Sanctions given to North Korea, how many European Nations can say they are doing better than North Korea.
Forget what you see on western media, Pyongyang is a beautiful city and Kim drives a Mercedes which is banned by the west in North Korea.

So Kim in all it’s country’s advancement had to resort to driving a western made car abi? They couldn’t innovate their own? If they want to offer you a visa to North Korea or any European countries, I am sure you will be first in line to go to Moldova self (one of the poorest European countries) before North Korea.

An empty barrel makes the loudest noise. People that got it, don’t talk about it. Ukraine is currently being trained with NATO and US is sharing intelligence with them hence why Russia has not been able to take over Ukraine skies. Ukraine is stronger militarily now than they were in December 2021 while Russia is weaker militarily now than they were in December 2021. They say proud goes before a fall sha..

Travel / Re: Xenophobia: View Of A Nigerian Living In SA by Oba234: 10:57am On Apr 16, 2015
I ve been reading the news about this and my initial reaction to the news was to brand every South African as xenophobic and ignorant, but after pondering on the situation for a while, I came to the following conclusions:

1) No other country in Africa harbors as many immigrants as South Africa and the reason is visible, South Africa has the strongest economy in Africa, so it's easy to claim that they hate immigrants because they deal with so many in comparison to other countries, but point me to any other country in Africa that harbors as many immigrants as them. I have lived in South Africa and there are a lot of immigrants, so claiming a few South Africans live in Nigeria is not the same thing as a country dealing with significant immigrant population from Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Zimbabweans, etc... Especially, the Zimbabweans, they come in like droves and most of them live in the Townships.

2) There is a growing anti-immigrant sentiment in the whole world not just South Africa. Even the great USA, with its strong economy, 5 or 6% unemployment, there is still a growing anti-immigrant sentiment, especially with conservative whites. It's very easy to blame immigrants for all your woes, they are easy scapegoats, but how do you expect a developing country like South Africa ,with 30% unemployment, where many are still very poor to deal with so many immigrants? If the developing countries are having a hard time accepting immigrants? what do you expect from a developing country with 30% unemployment still trying to find its way?

3) I personal believe that any country in Africa would have resort to the same violent tactics if they dealt with the same conditions as South Africa. Again, South Africa is still a developing country, they have a lot of poverty and they still have to accomodate many immigrants. My mind wanders towards what Nigeria would do in this situation. Imagine if Nigeria is dealing with so many poor immigrants looking for Asylum, do you guys seriously believe that violence would not break out when most Nigerians live on less than a dollar a day.
Look at what the Nigeria government did to Ghanaians in the 80s once Nigerians began to feel threatened by their presence. Did the Nigerian government not forced Ghanaians to leave Nigeria? That was just Ghana, imagine if other nationalities started coming in droves.....

4) To the claim that South Africans are lazy is no different when Black Americans are labeled lazy by foreigners. Immigrants in general tend to hustle hard than natives. It's a human thing.

It's a shame that so many Africans are seeking Asylum in countries that treat them like dirt which is why we need to hold our own leaders accountable, so we wouldn't be seeking greener pastures in strange places.

*Disclaimer* I am not trying to excuse South Africans, the violence is unjustifiable and reeks of jealousy, but I wouldn't brand them as xenophobic when I know we all Xenophobic to a certain extent under the right conditions.

If you don't like what I wrote, you can go play in traffic.

Culture / Re: Nigerians And Fake Foreign Accents by Oba234: 3:37am On Nov 02, 2014
As someone who grew up in the United States,I have never heard of a nigerian that was raised in Nigeria without a Nigerian accent. I can always tell a difference. There are levels when it comes to accents. Some accents are thicker than others. If one grew up in a rural/village setting, their accent would be considerately different from someone that grew up in a bigger city where they are more exposed to people of other tribes and cultures. I went to college with many international students from Nigeria; students from big wealthy families, and I can assure you that their accents were noticeable. They spoke proper english and I understood them clearly, but they still sounded different from other Americans. This leads me to my next point. Speaking proper English doesn't equate to having an American or British accent. There are certain nuances that comes with being apart of a culture and people from that culture easily notice when others lack those nuances. I don't think Nigerians are "faking it." I believe a growing number of people are trying to speak proper English without the ubiquitous sounds of "ooos, ehhhhs and "ahhs" that have been added to nigerian English which completely changes the pronunciations of those words. To each his own.

Health / American Hospital Treating A Nigerian For Possible Ebola Symptoms In DC by Oba234: 6:16pm On Oct 03, 2014
I am currently located in Washington DC and saw this on the news . People are on edge over here and the comments are brutal to read on facebook as a Nigerian. Though it's not even confirmed yet, the Americans are panicking.

"A D.C. hospital is treating a patient they say has symptoms that could be associated with Ebola. The unidentified patient recently traveled to Africa, according to a Howard University spokesperson.

"We can confirm that a patient has been admitted to Howard University Hospital in stable condition, following travel to Nigeria and presenting with symptoms that could be associated with Ebola," university spokesperson Kerry-Ann Hamilton said in a statement Friday.

"In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient. Our medical team continues to evaluate and monitor progress in close collaboration with the CDC and the Department of Health," Hamilton continued.

"For privacy reasons, we cannot share additional details about the case. We will continue to provide key updates as the situation warrants," she added.

D.C. Department of Health director Dr. Joxel Garcia said they are working with both the Centers for Disease Control and Howard University Hospital to monitor any patients who have symptoms associated with the Ebola virus.

"At this time, there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the District of Columbia," Garcia said in a statement Friday afternoon.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 5 and myfoxdc.com for updates.

teaf:

Since Jonathan became the president, its been an issue of US Vs Them. The country seems a lot more divided than ever.
But what the Niger Deltans keeps missing is that their votes alone would never have gotten GEJ into power. A lot of people in the North as well as other parts of Nigeria voted this guy hoping he would make a big difference. Now, his policies are so confusing and hes more lost than Alice trapped in the rabbit hole.
This isnt about GEJ. This isnt about the Niger Delta. This about making a difference, and Nigerians hungrily need so transformation.
Who cares if GEJ is assassinated. To hell with any leader who is useless to his people. I dont care what noise the Niger Deltans make. If they want to go away, who is stopping. They better start right now that have their disaster in Aso Rock.

You make too much sense. I am so tired of Niger Deltans sometimes. This is not about them, this is about Nigeria. I don't agree with assassination, but if GEJ feels as if he incapable of doing his job, he should resign. Nigeria politics is volatile and assassination occur at times. GEJ knew what he was getting into before he decided to run for office in an unstable country like Nigeria.

Politics / An Explosion At A Mosque In Maiduguri by Oba234: 4:48pm On Dec 30, 2011
Explosion at mosque in Nigerian city of Maiduguri

A blast has rocked an area around a mosque in the restive northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, the BBC has learnt.

Nigerian Army spokesman Brigadier General Isa said it was a major incident and there had been casualties.

He blamed the Islamist group Boko Haram.

The group is accused of carrying out a series of attacks on churches in northern and central areas of Nigeria on Christmas Day that killed at least 42 people.

Boko Haram, which means "Western education is forbidden", wants the imposition of strict Sharia law in Nigeria.

It has carried out scores of attacks, mainly in the north-east of the country, targeting churches, international organisations as well as Muslim leaders.

"There was a loud blast near the mosque just after the Friday prayers as people were trooping out of the mosque," one Maiduguri resident was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying.

"Everybody scampered to safety, leading to a stampede."

Politics / Re: Boko Haram: Kumuyi Calls For National Conference by Oba234: 4:19pm On Dec 30, 2011
This article was hilarious, but I am surprised to hear Pastor Kumuyi say that. Indeed, prayer alone is not the answer. Nigerians are so religious to the point that they can't reason with their brains. Everything is prayer prayer prayer. We better wake up and use our brains and fight back.

When America was warning them about future bombings, the politicians were wasting time debating on gay marriage and passing a ban on gay marriage like that should be our priority right now. All those useless time they wasted could have been used to bring the perpetrators of violence to Justice . Nigerians have misplaced priorities. Security and stability is the number one concern in the country, but Goodluck and the rest of the senators are behaving like its not an issue. chai, I pity the citizens of Nigeria under the direction of Goodluck Jonathan. lol, Nigeria is a ticking time bomb.

RIP to all the victims of Bokom Haram.
Politics / Re: List Of Madalla Blast Victims Released -98% Igbo by Oba234: 4:03pm On Dec 30, 2011
Like I stated previously this is not an Igbo issue. Bombing a catholic church in Niger State is not surprising that the casualties are Igbos because Igbos tend to migrate much more than other groups to seek out greener pastures outside of their homeland(Southeast). I know no christian is happy that churches are being bombed and this can happen to any church. Bokom Haram is willing to kill anybody that doesn't succumbed to their ideology. They killed many people last year during the independence day celebration, they have bombed UN offices, etc. Also many Christians that lived in the north are more likely to be Igbo based on immigration while other ethnic groups tend to stay in their region. I know the high number of Igbo deaths are alarming, but I really don't think this is about ethnicity. The more you make it an Igbo issue, the more you alienate people and cause friction in the south.
Politics / Re: List Of Madalla Blast Victims Released -98% Igbo by Oba234: 5:31am On Dec 30, 2011
RIP to the victims, but I am not surprised they were Igbos. I actually said the same thing when I heard of the bombings. Everybody knows Igbo and catholicism goes hand in hand. All Nigerians that I know that are Catholic are Igbos so not suprising. Now if it had been RCCG or Winners where Yoruba people typically go, most of the casualties would have been Yoruba. Please, i don't think this is an attack on Igbo people.
Celebrities / Re: Ghanaian Actresses Are Hotter Than Nigerian Actresses by Oba234: 3:21pm On Dec 28, 2011
lol, I agree with you. No offense to Nigerian stars, but Ghanaian actresses look better. Now I am not saying they are representative of the population in Ghana, but their actresses are good looking. Some Nigerians just like to attack people for no reason. The guy is just giving his opinion and the best you guys can give is Genevieve. what is so special about her anyway? I have yet to see the appeal that people see in her. Please mention a good looking actress apart from Genevieve. Please don't say Oge Okoye or Tonto Dikeh because those girls are far from beautiful. It's a shame because there are so many beautiful Nigerian girls, but why are they not better represented in nollywood?
Politics / Re: To My Boko Haram And Northern Brothers, Let Us Learn From The Yoruba. by Oba234: 5:46am On Dec 27, 2011
lol, Yoruba Muslims aren't really taking serious by nobody in general. Yoruba Muslims aren't hardcore Muslims.  I know Yoruba Muslims that will even go to church with you, Marry Christians and some of them don't care what religion their children takes. You can't really compare Yoruba Muslims to northern Muslims. Northerners Muslims are hardcore. You won't see them step foot in a church or marry Christians. I think it boils down to the fact that Yoruba people have an identity outside of their various religion. This is why Yoruba get along with other Yoruba despite religion differences. We have a common basis, we are all Yoruba. I don't think you can separate Fulani or Hausa from Islam. I even heard somebody say one day to a Hausa christian that he can't be Christian and Hausa. If he is Christian, then he is not Hausa. lmao, so this are the kinda people you expect to mimic Yoruba?

Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Better Than America's by Oba234: 3:31pm On Dec 26, 2011
This is probably the dumbest topic I have seen on in Nairaland to date? What is the purpose of this? You come to a Nigerian forum and asked whether Nigerian music is better than Americans, were you looking for an unbiased answer? or biased? It's like me going to a black american forum or an american forum in general and saying don't you think Nigerian music is better than Americans or vice versa? What kind of response do you think I will get. The answer to this question will be biased and subjective because your music taste is influenced by your culture, background, environment and how u were raised, so like I said what is the purpose of this topic? are you looking to get an unbiased answer in a nigerian forum?
