Volkswagen has unveiled three new engines at Vienna Motor Symposium, which will soon be added to its model line-up by 2020.

The new range of engines includes a 48V mild hybrid, a 1.5 TGI natural gas engine and a 2.0-litre mild hybrid diesel engine.

The first engine showcased is a 1.5-litre petrol engine which has turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. The engine makes 130 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque. It will get manual and automatic transmission options. 

The second engine is a mild hybrid system that consists of a 48v starter generator, 48v battery and DC/DC converter . It will make its debut on the new-generation Golf, which will be launched by 2020.

The third engine is a 2.0-litre mild hybrid TDI diesel engine with power output ranging from 136 bhp to 204 bhp. It will have a 12V belt starter generator working together with a lithium-ion battery pack. This will help the diesel engine to reduce emissions and offer better fuel efficiency.

The new diesel will first appear on bigger Audis like the A4 before moving into smaller VWs like the Golf or Tiguan.

Diesels are dying? Not so fast, says Volkswagen as it is committed to reducing the carbon emissions to 95g/km by 2020.

Bosch ,the biggest supplier of diesel-engine technology to global automakers from Volkswagen AG to General Motors Co. to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has unveiled a major breakthrough in diesel technology that reduces and clean the nitrogen oxides emissions produced by these vehicles .

The technology will enable vehicle manufacturers to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) so drastically that they will comply with future limits, without the need for any additional technology.

Long term exposures to this emissions can decrease lung function, increase the risk of respiratory conditions and increases the response to allergens.

Legislations introduced in 2017 dictated that no new passenger car can emit more than 168 milligrams of NOx per kilometre.

This limit will be reduced to 120 milligrams by 2020, in a further push to remove dirty diesel cars from the road.

Bosch claims the new diesel technology can achieve as little as 13 milligrams of NOx in standard legally-compliant RDE cycles. 

Bosch says its technology uses a combination of advanced fuel injection to recirculate exhaust gases and intelligent temperature management, and it requires no additional new components.

Prosecutors are probing several car makers and supplier Bosch for their suspected roles in using an engine control unit, EDC17, to cheat exhaust emissions tests.

Volkswagen used the unit in its EA189 diesel engine, which was found in 2015 to artificially throttle back real-world pollution levels during a regulatory test cycle, triggering a global crackdown on carmakers and toxic pollutions.

The biggest downside to Bosch’s diesel emissions control system is that it will only work on new vehicles. Because of that, car owners won’t be able to retrofit diesels that are already on the road.

Cars equipped with the latest Bosch technology will be classed as low-emission vehicles and may slow electric car adoption. What do you think?

The Michigan State Police organized a unique way to help a man who was threatening suicide on a highway overpass.

The first call came in a little before 1 a.m. on Tuesday 24th April,as the unnamed man was on the bridge over the highway.

Then they commandeered 13 truckers to stop their vehicles in the middle of Interstate 696 to create both a wall and a makeshift platform to shorten the distance the man would have fallen if he had jumped. 

In this case, they were able to identify the trigger that led the man to this point.

Thankfully, the man did not jump and the situation ended after several hours of negotiations. He was taken by Huntington Woods Police to Beaumont hospital for evaluation.

6 years ago today(24/4/2012), Chelsea booked their place in the Champions League Final with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Barcelona.

Leading 1-0 after the first leg, the Blues' qualification was put under serious threat at Camp Nou.

Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta had scored either side of John Terry's sending off, meaning Barca led on aggregate.

However, Ramires popped up with an excellent chip to put Chelsea back in front on away goals.

And, after Lionel Messi missed a penalty, Fernando Torres scored that goal in injury time to guarantee the win.

The FInal CHallenge - Devil's Plunge

Each of these ~2 minute clips from the new series called "The Final Challenge" reveals the final adventures and obstacles the Cullinan must conquer.

It replicates some of the challenges conducted by the fathers of Rolls-Royce,Charles Rolls and Sir Henry Royce which gave it the outstanding reputation for reliability,durability and engineering excellence in its early days.

This series of extreme performance trials is staged in remote areas, from the Highlands to Alpine snowfields to the deserts of Arabia, and it will finally end with a mountain climb in the Western United States.

The Cullinan features 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 and is based on the N74 engine found in the M760Li xDrive and lesser Rolls-Royce models.

The V12 develops 563 horsepower and 900 Nm (664 pound-feet) in the Phantom, with peak torque coming in strong at 1,700 revs.

Baidu ,China’s largest online search engine has completed the country’s first autonomous driving road test based on a 5G network environment .It is seen as a major step for the internet giant in its push towards driverless car technology.

Baidu was permitted to test its autonomous vehicles on 33 roads spanning around 105 kilometers (65 miles) in Xiongan. Xiongan is a new development zone created last year under direct orders from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The successful completion of the test, done with the cooperation of ZTE and China Telecom, is expected to kick off 5G’s application in autonomous driving as a high-speed, reliable network is essential for driverless cars to be deemed safe in sometimes chaotic, unpredictable real world conditions.

Baidu hope to have self-driving cars in China by 2019 or 2020.

Detectives in Florida arrested 30 year old Magdiel Medrano-Bonilla in connection with the road rage and crash video that went viral on social media about two week ago after a witness recorded it as it happened.

The video showed the motorcyclist changing lanes and driving alongside a Mazda when he motioned for the car to pull over, swinging his arms toward the vehicle.

The Mazda eventually swerved toward the motorcyclist, hitting him and throwing him off of his bike. 

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital for a hyperextended knee, possible fractured ribs and severe road rash. 

The bike driver said “Before the video started he threw a quarter or change and hit me and my motorcycle and put some damage to the motorcycle"

" he pelted me with a bunch of metal.” "I really just don't understand it, how a human can do that to another human"

The police has charged the Mazda driver who is also an illegal immigrant from El Salvador with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and an intentional injuries to a fellow driver. His bond has been set at $20,000.

Besiktas boss Senol Gunes had his head split open by objects thrown from the stands as the Turkish Cup semi-final at Fenerbahce was abandoned.

Gunes needed stitches and his assistant, Erdinc Gultekin, was left with a bloodied face after a furious tunnel bust-up between both sets of players and staff from the Istanbul rivals.

Gunes dropped to the floor and clutched his head in agony in the 58th minute of the Turkish Cup semi-final second leg as what appeared to be a seat was launched at him.

Officials helped him up but, as he was taken down the tunnel for treatment, Another object struck him and he collapsed.

Jaguar has revealed details of a new high-performance version of its XE with a seriously cool publicity stunt to show off its skills.

To reveal the XE 300 Sport’s all-wheel-drive capabilities and dynamic handling ,Jaguar pitted it against Olympic gold medallist speed skater Shaolin Sándor Liu at the 3km world’s longest artificial outdoor ice track.

The Hungarian gold medallist slid round the world’s longest ice track at a blistering time of 4.04s while the 295bhp sports saloon smashed that with a time of 3.03s at an impressive average speed of 36mph to set a new track record.

The 300 Sport is equipped with a 296bhp, 295lb/ft 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine, which powers the XE from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds.

The performance-inspired 300 Sport trim is also available on the XF and XF Sportbrake, which can be order with the 295bhp 3.0-litre diesel V6.

A shocking video of Barack Obama has been making the rounds on the internet showing the former president calling Donald Trump a 'total and complete dips***'.

If you didn't know any better, you might think the video is real. 

In actuality, what appears to be Obama's voice is actually words spoken by 'Get Out' director and writer Jordan Peele.

Peele's voice and mouth were digitally inserted into the video using a sophisticated, but increasingly commonplace, technology that's powered by artificial intelligence, called 'deepfakes'.     

'We're entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point in time — even if they would never say those things,' 'Obama' says in the video. 

'So, for instance, they could have me say things like, I don't know, [Black Panther's] Killmonger was right, or Ben Carson is in the sunken place,'

'Or, how about this: Simply, President Trump is a total and complete dipshit'.   

Peele and his production company, Monkeypaw Productions, as well as BuzzFeed, made the video to convey the dangers of deepfakes. 

Deepfakes are digitally-altered videos that use sophisticated machine learning algorithms to create human masks that are then overlaid on top of real footage.  

In many cases, the technology has been used to create AI-assisted porn of Hollywood's leading ladies.  

Experts have warned that the technology is poised to be the 'future of fake news' or as technologist Aviv Ovadya said it can make anyone 'appear as if anything has happened, regardless of whether or not it did'.  

BuzzFeed said it took around 56 hours to make the video using programs like Adobe After Effects and FakeApp. 

FakeApp lets anyone create their own deepfakes videos via an easy-to-use app that can be downloaded directly to your desktop computer. 

Deepfakes hobbyists have used the controversial video-editing technology to create short clips of world leaders, including Trump, Russian president Vladimir Putin as well as presidential candidate and former first lady Hillary Clinton. 

Experts warn the videos could be realistic enough to manipulate future elections and global political as soon as 2020.
