At the present time, turbos are used mainly on diesel engines, but there is now a move towards the turbo charging of production petrol enginesThank for pointing out the mistake...I know and have seen turbocharged petrol engines, but what it simply means is that turbocharging a petrol engine is not as rewarding as a diesel engine.Pointing out the mistake in an honourable way would have been better and not talking as if both of you can use your brain to build/design a car/engine components ![]() EgunMogaji:May Allah forgive you esp. during this season. This is one of the dumbest post have seen on Nairaland ![]() GAZZUZZ:Copy and pastes Kid ? ![]() I only come online to share all these cos some are willing to know and probably save them from their fraudulent mechanics...I want you to know that 'Pride always goes before a fall' and I pray you don't go that way I know am not a motor mechanic or pro,but their is hardly what you know that I don't know and even have a Uni.Cert to show for it. |
What Is A Turbocharger? A turbocharger is a kind of air pump taking air at ambient pressures (atmospheric pressure),compressing to a higher pressure and passing the compressed air into the engine via the inlet valves—generating pressure or “boost”—allowing more fuel to be used, and thus helping the engine produce more power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji3MpElXr4s How Does A Turbocharger Work? The waste exhaust gases of the engine are utilised to drive a turbine wheel, which is connected to a compressor wheel by a shaft. The compressor or air wheel sucks in air through the air filters and passes this into the engine. As the waste gases are expelled from the engine, they are directed to the turbine or hot wheel of the turbo and so completes the cycle. 1. Capture Instead of escaping through the exhaust pipe, hot gases produced during combustion flow to the turbocharger. The cylinders inside an internal combustion engine fire in sequence (not all at once), so exhaust exits the combustion chamber in irregular pulses. Conventional single-scroll turbochargers route those irregular pulses of exhaust into the turbine in a way that causes them to collide and interfere with one another, reducing the strength of the flow.In contrast,a twin-scroll turbocharger gathers exhaust from pairs of cylinders in alternating sequence. 2. Spin The exhaust strikes the turbine blades, spinning them at up to 150,000 rpm.The alternating pulses of exhaust help eliminate turbo lag. 3. Vent Having served their purpose, exhaust gases flow through an outlet to the catalytic converter, where they are scrubbed of carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides and other pollutants before exiting through the tailpipe. 4. Compress Meanwhile, the turbine powers an air compressor, which gathers cold, clean air from a vent and compresses it to 30 percent above atmospheric pressure, or nearly 19 pounds per square inch. Dense, oxygen-rich air flows to the combustion chamber. The additional oxygen makes it possible for the engine to burn gasoline more completely, generating more performance from a smaller engine. As a result, the TwinPower engine generates 30 percent more power than a non-turbocharged one of the same size. http://www.turbodynamics.co.uk/technical/understanding-turbochargers/ Pics Credit:google.com https://autojosh.com/how-a-turbocharger-works/ |

Ramadan is a month not only when Muslims keep away from food, but everything we do during this month causes us to develop taqwa (piety). The following are10 things which we can all do to make our Ramadan this year more spiritual and hopefully some of these things would develop into habits which we carry on with us for the year ahead. 1. Read Quran daily You will be rewarded 10 rewards for every letter you read. This prize basically illustrates the weight of the Quran in terms of where it should be in your life. Ramadan is the perfect opportunity for us to develop a routine, so why not make reading the Holy Quran part of our daily lifestyle choices and why not start in this month? If you read one juz (part) of Quran each day, by the end of the month, you would have completed the entire Quran! 2. Pray Sunnah Salaat before and/or after Salaat “Allah will build house in Jannah for whoever is diligent in observing 12 sunnah rakat (as follows) 4 rakat before and 2 after Dhur, 2 after the Maghrib, 2 after Ishaa, and 2 before Fajr.” [Tirmidhi] 3. Increase your remembrance of Allah “O You who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance” {Surat Al-‘Aĥzāb33: Verse 41} A few common things you can say are: –SubhanAllah or SubhanAllahwabihamdihi (“I praise Allah (or All praise if to Allah) above all attributes that do not suit His Majesty.”) -Alhamdulillah (“All praise is for Allah.”) The stated reward for this one is that your scales will be tipped in your favour on the Day of Judgment. – La hawlawa la quwwataillabillah (“There is no power or might except (by) Allah.”) You will enter through a special door in Paradise if you oft use this remembrance. – SubhanAllah (x33)- “I praise Allah (or All praise if to Allah) above all attributes that do not suit His Majesty, Alhamdulillah (x33)-All praise is to Allah and Allahuakbar (x34)-Allah is Great.”) This is commonly said after all salaat and before you go to sleep. 4. Give extra charity In addition to your Zakaat (obligatory charity) you should find a way every day to give extra charity. Feed a hungry child or family; give away some of your clothes to needy people; or even help an elderly person cross the road. The possibilities for charity are limitless. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad salallahualeyhiwasallam, has said that even a smile is charity. 5. Do not engage in unnecessary talk It has been reported that if someone approaches you and engages in nonconstructive talk, then you say ‘I am fasting, I am fasting’ and stop it in its tracks. This is a good way to cleanse your thoughts as well. Think positively and talk positively. 6. Visiting a sick Muslim “There is no Muslim who visits a sick Muslim early in the morning but 70 thousand angles send blessings upon him until evening comes, and if he visits him in the evening, 70 thousand angles send blessings upon him until morning comes, and he will have a garden in paradise.” [Tirmidhi] 7. Providing food for breaking the fast “Whoever provides food for breaking of the fast for a fasting person receives the reward of the fasting person, without the reward of the fasting person being reduced in any way.” [Tirmidhi & Ibn Majah] This is an easy way to receive more blessings during this month, while increasing our spirituality. 8. Standing in prayer on Laylatul Qadr “LaylatulQadr is better than a thousand months.” {Surat Al-Qadr 97: Verse 3} The rewards from prayers of this night is equivalent to a thousand months. This is a great opportunity to get closer to Allah and build up your spirituality. 9. Asking Allah to forgive ALL Muslims “Whoever seeks forgiveness for believing men and believing woman, Allah will write for him a good deed for each believing man and believing woman.” [Tabarani] This is a powerful way to make the best out of our Ramadan. 10. Attend lectures and events in the Masjid “Whoever goes to the mosque not desiring except to learn or teach what is good has the reward of a pilgrim who completed his Hajj”. Not only do Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan, but they are encouraged to fast regularly and periodically throughout the year. There is a gate in Paradise, called Ar-Rayyan, promised to those special believers who fast frequently. For those who fast, they will enjoy the rewards of fasting which Allah has promised and also they will reap many health benefits, which modern science is proving again and again. Last year’s Nobel Prize winner in physiology or medicine scientifically proved that fasting is good for health. What won the Japanese scientist, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi, the 2016 Nobel Prize is his discovery of the mechanisms involved in the cellular process called autophagy. Autophagy means self-eating. It is the ability of a cell to consume or to set off a self-destruct mechanism on certain components within the cell. Autophagy actually preserves the health of the cell, and the body. Disturbance in the process of autophagy is linked to the development of diseases such as cancer, neurological disorders, type-2 diabetes, and other age-related diseases. Autophagy requires the right kind of conditions for it to occur. Nutrient deprivation is the key activator of autophagy. When the body is fasting, it signals the brain that there is not enough food available and the body then seeks out stored foods. Autophagy is activated and the cells break down old and damaged proteins in the body. When insulin levels in the body are low, glucagon begins to work in the body, cleansing the body of dead and damaged cells and cell parts. Even the slightest amount of food is easy to stop the autophagy process. It requires complete abstinence from food for at least 12 hours, which is the typical duration of the Muslim’s fast. With all this research pointing to the health boosting effects fasting can have on our bodies, and also because the days are shorter and cooler, making the fast a little easier, now is a good time to take up the healthy habit of our Prophet (peace be upon him) It was a regular practice of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to fast every Monday and Thursday. It was narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansari that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays and he said, “On that day I was born, and on it the Revelation came to me.” (Sahih Muslim, 1162) Aisha, the Prophet’s wife, said, “The Prophet (peace be upon him) was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. (At-Tirmidhi, 745) Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also recommended fasting the same way that Prophet Dawud used to fast, which was fasting on alternate days. http://saudigazette.com.sa/life/nobel-prize-winner-affirms-health-benefits-fasting/ https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/2016/press.html |
BMW is recalling more than 45,000 older 7-Series cars in the U.S. because the doors can open unexpectedly while they're being driven. The recall covers certain 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li and B7 Alpina cars from the 2005 through 2008 model years that have the comfort access and soft door close options. BMW says the doors may appear to be closed and latched but can inadvertently open due to road conditions or occupant contact with the door. A sudden opening could cause someone to be ejected or increase the risk of injury in a crash. The company says in documents posted by the government that the latches can malfunction over time. The documents didn't say if the problem had caused any crashes or injuries. The recall came after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the government's road safety agency, asked BMW about owner complaints about doors opening unexpectedly. The agency asked if a 2012 recall of about 7,500 7-Series cars from the 2005 to 2007 model years should be expanded and if the remedy was adequate. BMW investigated and agreed to another recall, but it's still trying to find the cause and develop a fix. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/26/bmw-recalls-more-than-45000-older-7-series-cars-because-doors-can-fly-open.html http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-bmw-7-series-recall-20170526-story.html https://autojosh.com/bmw-recalls-7-series-cars-doors-can-fly-open/ |
The motor oil costs only a small fraction of the total amount that you spend on your car but choosing the right oil can save you large sums. Low quality or overused motor oil is not capable of fulfilling its duties and can cause a series of problems. We are going to introduce the most important motor oil related problems, their usual causes and consequences. 1)Deposit Formation Possible reasons: additive depletion or contaminated motor oil. Possible consequences: pre-ignition, reduced power, higher emissions. 2)Wear Possible reasons: abrasive physical particles in the motor oil, additive depletion, motor oil contamination or too low motor oil level. Possible consequences: engine component failure or engine breakdown. 3)Motor Oil Viscosity Increase Possible reasons: additive depletion, motor oil oxidation and motor oil contamination. Possible consequences: motor oil circulation problems, wear of critical engine components, mechanical problems. 4)Motor Oil Thermal Breakdown Possible reasons: additive depletion, motor oil oxidation, abnormally high engine temperature. Possible consequences: motor oil thickening, oil starvation, cold start problems, engine failure. 5)Motor Oil Circulation Problems Possible reasons: motor oil pump malfunction, clogged oil passages, too low oil level. Possible consequences: low motor oil pressure, wear of critical engine components, mechanical problems. How to Avoid These Problems These problems can be avoided by using quality motor oils and by respecting the factory recommended oil drain intervals. A quality motor oil contains all the additives that are required to prevent these problems so there is no need for aftermarket additives, for engine flush or for changing the oil more frequently than recommended by the OEM- Original equipment manufacturer. An exception from the last rule is when the operating conditions are tougher than normal, since those conditions require the shortening of the oil drain interval. http://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/why-change-oil-regularly.php https://autojosh.com/need-change-motorengineoil-regularly/ |
Problem: When the vents become restricted, flow of fuel into the tank compresses the air within the tank. As the pressure rises,it overcomes the weight of the fuel flowing into the tank. The air pressure pushes fuel back up the filler neck. This causes the incoming fuel to rise against the nozzle. The nozzle will respond by cutting fuel flow. Possible Causes: Hoses can become blocked by deterioration of the rubber or physical damage. Charcoal canisters can also break down over time. Operating in a very dusty environment can plug the canister. Water may also be drawn into a canister, by driving on flooded streets. This breaks down the retaining elements in the canister and may allow charcoal to escape. These small pellets can quickly block the system and cause the vents to malfunction. When fuel is forced in,the canister will be ruined.Fuel will cause deterioration of the canister which may allow charcoal pellets to escape. http://www.agcoauto.com/content/news/p2_articleid/242 https://mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/18856/what-is-the-fuel-tank-ventilation-valve |
Pics Credit:Google.com The petrol nozzle is designed to cuts off when the fuel tank is full, which prevents overfilling. It becomes an annoying cycle when the fuel nozzle starts to cut off several times when filling the tank, even when the fuel tank is not filled. It means there is a problem somewhere. Having the problem corrected before additional damage occurs will often save a great deal of money. How it Works: When fuel flows into the fuel tank, an equal volume of air is displaced. If the air is not vented, pressure starts to build and prevents additional fuel from entering the tank. As in this simple demonstration, the liquid will not run into a sealed container, unless air is allowed to flow out.Open valve-b(vent) and the funnel will quickly empty; the same holds true for a fuel tank. Normal Working System: Your tank has to breathe. In order to breathe, your tank must have a vent somewhere that will relieve both vacuum and pressure.Petrol expands in volume as it warms up and shrinks in volume as it cools down. The fuel level of your tank changes throughout the day, even if you are not driving it. To vent the fuel tank and remove vapors, there is a system known as the evaporative emissions system. This system uses solenoids to open and close hoses and extract fumes and pressure from the fuel tank. A vapor canister is used to filter this flow and to contain emissions, until they can be burned in the engine. The canister is filled with charcoal pellets that hold gasoline vapors. When the purge cycle occurs, an engine vacuum draws the vapor out. The evaporative emissions system also provides a vent when gasoline is being added. The air pressure and fuel vapors flow through the vent solenoid and into the canister. Many vehicles also incorporate a vapor return hose in the fuel-tank filler neck. This hose allows excess vapor to vent at the top of the filler neck, above the fuel nozzle. This prevents gasoline from backing up in the neck and cutting the pump off prematurely. |
What Does Oil Do? Your engine is made up from hundreds of moving metal parts that constantly rub up against each other when the ignition is on. Oil helps lubricate these parts, allowing them to move without causing unwanted friction. Oil also helps disperse the heat, allowing your engine components to stay cool and work properly. When oil is running low, various signs will appear to let you know,so you can take action before it's too late. Symptoms Of Low Oil: 1)Low oil level – dipstick: This is one of the simplest ways to determine whether you’re low on engine oil. Just wait until the engine cools down, pop the hood, locate the dipstick, remove it, and check the reading. If it turns out that the oil level is low, you should seek professional service immediately. 2)Flickering Check Oil light: Lots of drivers stay on the lookout for an illuminated Check Oil icon. However, a flickering Check Oil icon can be just as significant! This could indicate an issue with the oil or an issue with the sensor.Either way, it’s a problem, and somebody should check it out right away. 3)Pungent burning smell: The odor of burnt oil is unmistakable, and so is its cause. When there isn’t enough oil, the engine’s parts start to heat up due to friction, which can burn the oil. This is an extremely pressing sign, and you should act with urgency. Our team of expert automotive technicians can help. 4)Loud knocking sound: Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! This is the final, and most serious, symptom, just short of a dangerous total engine failure. Without oil, your engine rods will wear down, and they’ll eventually break. The noise comes from a broken rod that’s knocking around inside there. Oil consumption has many reasons.Let’s go through the most common ones quickly: Reasons for Engine Oil Consumption 1)Engine design: Some engines consume oil by design. From day 1. The consumption can be as high as 1 liter per 1000 kms (cca. 1.7 quarts per mile). This depends on the make and model of the engine. 2)Driving style: RPM affects oil consumption. The higher your usual RPM is the more oil will be consumed. That’s because you put extra pressure on the seals and gaskets and some of the oil finds its way around and gets burned away in the combustion chamber. 3)Seal and gasket condition: The more worn they are the more oil will be consumed. What happens is that the oil finds its way around the seals and it gets burned away in the combustion chamber or it simply leaks out. 4)Higher-than-normal engine temperature: The hotter your engine runs the thinner your oil will be. Once again it will be simpler for a thin oil to reach the combustion chamber and get mixed and burned with the fuel. 5)Too-low viscosity motor oil: If you use an oil with a viscosity below the recommended by the engine manufacturer than you will experience oil consumption.By viscosity I do not mean SAE viscosity only. The HTHS(High Temperature High Shear)viscosity also counts. 6)Low quality motor oil with high volatility: I mention this as the last one because this is the least common reason. If the oil’s volatility is very high than it could be noticeable in the oil consumption rate. There are also numerous other reasons including but not limited to high oil level, the damage or clogging of different engine parts, Worn or broken piston rings, worn or damaged camshaft bearings, worn or damaged connecting rod bearings, clogged "PCV" valve and the fuel contamination of the oil. http://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/what-are-the-reasons-of-oil-consumption.php https://www.normreevesvw.com/symptoms-of-low-engine-oil-irvine-ca https://autojosh.com/symptoms-low-engine-oil-reasons-engine-oil-consumption/ |

Ramadan Fasting is fardh(obligatory, compulsory)for adult Muslims, except those who have been exempted for one reason or another. Exempted categories: In Islam, people who fall under following categories are exempted from fasting in the month of Ramadan, •Mentally challenged: Those people who are mentally challenged are not required to fast during the month of Ramadan. •Children: Fasting during the month of Ramadan is not obligatory for children (those who have not undergone puberty). •Women: Those who are passing from their monthly cycles. Or those who are undergoing the phase of post-childbirth. Women, in such conditions are exempted from fasting and are required to compensate for the missed days afterwards. •Travelers: Travelers are exempted from fasting. Traveling is something you’re your culture considers as a travel. For example, going to university is not a travel that can exempt you from fasting. However, if you have to travel far and the journey is difficult then you are eligible for this exemption. •Sickness: By Sickness it means, that when you are suffering from some ailment; if you fast your ailment worsens. Such types of sickness will implement this exemption from fasting. However, here it does not means that one needs to be sick deathly! It just means that if your disease or sickness may get worse from fasting, you are allowed not to fast during that period. •Temporary sickness: These types of sickness include fever; moderate cough etc. These people are exempted from fast, and later they are required to compensate for the lost days. •Permanent sickness: This type of sickness includes cancer, diabetes, AIDS, tuberculosis (TB); etc. These people are exempted from fasting but are required to give food to a poor daily during Ramadan. These people do not have to compensate for the missed days by fasting later, because of the permanent nature of the sickness. A permanent sickness can also mean one who is very old and weak •Pregnant and breastfeeding women: Pregnant Muslim women who fast during Ramadan are likely to have smaller babies who will be more prone to learning disabilities in adulthood, according to new research. Muslim sisters, realize firstly that just because you’re pregnant or breastfeeding doesn’t get you off the hook. Only if you feel that the fast will make it difficult on you or that a Muslim reputable doctor tells you that the fast will have adverse consequences on you or your child, then you’re exempt from the fasting. There is difference of opinion on whether they should feed someone or if they should make it up for that missed fast. Compensatory ways: °Fast later in other months or after the month of Ramadan, as soon as the cause of delay is gone. • Give a meal for each missed day of fasting. Or calculate the missed days and give all meals (according to the calculated missed days) together. • You can feed various people or you can feed that compensatory meal to one person only. • You can also give money to the poor that may buy them a proper meal. Best is to give food. Type of food to give as compensation: °Give the poor a regular meal or a proper meal to eat. • Meaning of ‘regular meal’ varies from culture to culture. • If chicken is a regular meal for you, you should give that. • But if that is a luxury for you then you are not obliged to give that. • You may also give lentils, bread etc. https://kapital929.fm/ramadan-people-exempted-fasting-holy-month/ |
Proper tire alignment is important to avoid excessive wear on tires and vehicle parts. Bad tire alignment can decrease your MPG, make wheels work against each other, and wear out tires by causing bad tread wear patterns. Here are some signs that suggest you need an alignment fix. 1)Uneven wear. If one of your front or back tires shows a much different wear pattern than its opposite, more likely than not, it's time for a tire alignment. 2)Pulling to the right or left. If a vehicle's wheels are badly out of alignment, you'll notice the vehicle will automatically try to turn to one side or another. If you have to wrestle with the wheel, it's time for an alignment, so that the wheels all point in the right directions. 3)Passive pulling. With a lesser alignment problem, the vehicle may not actively pull, but when you let the car go straight ahead, without a hand on the steering wheel, the vehicle may naturally drift off to one direction or another. This is also a sign of an alignment problem. 4)Vibration. Bad alignment can also cause vibration as wheels pull against each other. If your car is shaking while running down the road, check your alignment. 5)A crooked steering wheel. Another sign of a vehicle that is out of alignment is that the steering wheel may be crooked while the car or truck is going straight ahead. Keep an eye on this tell tale signal of an alignment problem. The Benefits of Tire Alignment Bad tire alignment can lead to a lot of different problems on a vehicle. Here are some of the reasons it's not a good idea to keep on driving without a good tire alignment from a professional shop. 1)It aids tire rotation. Even though you may take care to rotate tires every 7000 miles,if the car is out of alignment, they can still wear wrong and get shredded in a relatively short time. 2)It satisfies warranty requirements. If your tires carry a warranty or "lifetime certificate," check the fine print. It's likely that it includes the requirement of getting periodic alignments to keep tires from wearing incorrectly. Don't let your warranty be voided by a lack of proper maintenance. 3)It improves handling. A car with a proper wheel alignment is easier to drive. When dealing with road obstacles such as potholes (which also throw out the alignment even more),you're one step ahead if you have correct wheel alignment on your vehicle. 4)It reduces wear on steering column. Bad alignment causes wear on a lot of car parts, not just the tires. In extreme situations, a vehicle out of alignment can shake parts and cause even more deterioration. Your best bet is to do periodic alignments so that car systems don't suffer from being jolted around. 5)Improves gas mileage. Like numerous other car problems, bad alignment can lead to lower MPG as the vehicle puts more energy into its trajectory than it should. Don't let improper wheel alignment work against the overall health of your vehicle and limit the MPG it gets on the road. https://www.carsdirect.com/car-repair/tire-alignment-how-to-know-when-you-need-it https://autojosh.com/tell-time-tire-alignment-need-get-tires-aligned/ |

Radiators are heat exchangers used for cooling internal combustion engines, especially in automobiles. The Internal combustion engines are often cooled by circulating a liquid called engine coolant through the engine block, where it is heated, then through a radiator where it loses heat to the atmosphere, and then returned to the engine. If your car is suffering from any of these symptoms of cooling system trouble be sure to head to the auto repair shop right away. 1)Visible Coolant Leak Coolant is often a bright green color that has a very sweet smell to it.If your coolant system is leaking it will collect on the ground near the front of your car.If you find this liquid be sure to schedule an appointment to have the leak location identified and repaired. 2)Discolored or Rusty Spots Under the Bonnet If the cooling system springs a small leak there is a good chance it will spray coolant all over the hot parts of the motor. As soon as the coolant lands it will boil off, taking any paint with it. This will result in a discolored spot that will be vulnerable to rust. 3)White Exhaust Smoke If you notice white exhaust coming from your vehicle's rear end there is a strong chance that there is a problem inside in the engine block that is allowing coolant to be burnt up in the combustion chamber. This reduction in coolant puts your car at risk of overheating and needs to be repaired ASAP. 4)Rising Temperature Gauge Be sure you keep tabs on the temperature gauge on your vehicle's dashboard for any indication of a hot engine. If the needle starts pointing to the red zone you'll want to pull over to ensure you don't run the risk of overheating problems, such as a blown head gasket or a cracked engine block. 5)Smoking Bonnet If smoke begins to pour out from under the bonnet you need to pull over as soon as it is safe to. This usually means that your car is currently overheating and if it is not shut off it will lead to major trouble. Your cooling system plays an important role in overall vehicle function so it is necessary you take good care of it, including providing it with routine coolant flushes. http://www.autorepairgonzales.com/blog/top-signs-radiator-failure.php https://autojosh.com/symptoms-bad-failing-radiator-hose/ Pics Credits:Google.com |
Glow plugs are an engine management component that is found on vehicles equipped with diesel engines.Their purpose is to preheat, and help warm up the engine’s cylinders so that diesel combustion can occur more easily. They play an especially important part in warming the vehicle’s cylinders during cold starts, where starting the engine is most difficult. Glow plugs use an electrode which will warm up and glow orange when current is applied. When the glow plugs have an issue, they can usually cause problems with the driveability of the vehicle. Usually bad or failing glow plugs will produce a few symptoms that can alert the driver of a potential issue. 1)Engine misfires or decrease in power and acceleration Engine misfires are one of the first symptoms of an issue with the vehicle’s glow plugs. If the glow plugs malfunction they will not provide the additional heat that aids in diesel combustion, which may cause the engine to experience misfires. The misfires may cause a loss in power, acceleration, and even fuel efficiency. 2)Hard starting Another symptom of an issue with the vehicle’s glow plugs is hard starting. Unlike gasoline engines, which use a spark to ignite the fuel mixture, diesel engines rely solely on cylinder pressures to ignite the diesel fuel mixture. If the glow plugs fail, the engine will have to overcome additional pressure in order to ignite the mixture, which may result in hard starting. 3)Black smoke from the exhaust Another symptom of an issue with the glow plugs is black smoke from the exhaust. Faulty glow plugs may disturb the sensitive diesel combustion process, which may cause the engine to produce black smoke from the tailpipe. Black smoke can also be caused by a wide variety of other issues, so having the engine properly diagnosed is highly recommended. 4)Indicator Light Some vehicles are equipped with an on-board diagnostic system that will alert you of problems with your glow plug. When you start your vehicle, pay close attention to the LED lights on your dashboard. If any warning lights are on, consult your owner's manual to identify the problem. A glow plug warning light can indicate a faulty temperature sensor, a disconnected glow plug relay or a corroded glow plug. Glow plugs are found on virtually all diesel engines, and play an important role in starting and operating the engine. If your vehicle is displaying any of the symptoms above, or you suspect that your glow plugs may be having an issue, have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic,to determine if the glow plugs need to be replaced. https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-bad-or-failing-glow-plugs http://www.ehow.com/info_8522765_signs-symptoms-bad-glow-plug.html |

Due to the different types of nozzles used for petrol and diesel fuel at stations, its usually kind of difficult to mix them up, but mistakes do happen. If you realized your mistake, the important thing is to stop driving the car. Parking and turning off the engine will limit the damage that will occur. Otherwise, the car will use up the remainder of the petrol in the tank and eventually shut down, since petrol engines can’t combust diesel. What the mechanic needs to do is to drain the tank and fuel lines, fuel rails and injectors of the diesel fuel. You can't fix this yourself, but a mechanic will be better suited to handle this kind of work. Usually, there’s no permanent damage, but this kind of fix can be costly together with the cost of a tow to the closet mechanic. What Happens When You Put Petrol in a Diesel Car? Going the other way around is far more harmful and dangerous for your car. Diesel is not only a fuel, but serves as a lubricant as well,so you can really damage the fuel-injector pump by using petrol instead of diesel. That’s not the only thing that can go wrong. Diesel and petrol have different combustion properties, meaning that petrol would detonate much earlier in a diesel engine. As a result, you’ll get misfires and knocking that will require certain parts of the engine to be repaired, rebuilt or replaced, which will be expensive. If you discovered that you accidentally put diesel into your petrol-powered car, you need to stop running the engine immediately and get a tow to a mechanic, where they will drain and clean your system. How to prevent Misfuelling While no one’s perfect and it’s impossible to avoid innocent mistakes from time to time, there are a few things we can bear in mind to reduce the risk of falling foul to mishaps at the pumps: -If you’ve just bought a new car with a different fuel engine to your previous car, leave yourself reminders or prompts in the car to minimise the risk of you queuing for the wrong pump. -When you pull into a petrol station, cut out distractions and focus. For the sake of the minute or two it takes to refuel, put your phone away and give your undivided attention to the task in hand. -If you drive a diesel car and are worried about misfuelling, you can buy a device that fits into your filler neck to prevent you inserting the narrower petrol nozzle. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2016/07/what-happens-if-you-put-the-wrong-fuel-in-your-car-.html https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/wrong-fuel-advice |
Ramadan is the 9th month of Islamic Calendar, observed by Muslims Worldwide as an act of fasting to commemorate the revelation of Quran on Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) as per Islamic dogmas. The ritual of fasting among Muslims redirects heart away from worldly activities to purify the soul by freeing it from negative and harmful activities. Ramadan is the best practice for self-improvement,self-control,discipline, and empathy to encourage charity(Zakat) towards the less fortunate ones. Ramadan And Its Phases Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days depending on moon sighting and according to narration, Allah divides this noble month into three parts. First Part reflects mercy of Allah, second part reflects forgiveness of Allah and the third part reflects safety from the hell (Jahanam). Allah is the only true merciful and Ramadan is His month of mercy and forgiveness providing Muslims an opportunity to seek refuge from Hell for their sins and forbidden acts. The only way to attain the true essence of Ramadan is to do Zikar as much as you can. Allah says in the Qur’an “Remember Allah abundantly, in order that you become successful” [8:45] Ramadan And Concept Of Ashra The word Ashra is an Arabic word meaning ten. Ramadan has three parts and each part is of ten days, making it a month of three Ashras. First Ashra: (First ten days of Ramadan) – Days of Mercy Second Ashra (Second ten days) – Days of Forgiveness Third Ashra (Last ten days) – Days to seek refuge from Hellfire 1)First Ashra – Days of Mercy The first ten days of Ramadan is to seek mercy from Allah, as His mercy is boundless and it is unto us to ask for His mercy to be shower upon us. Dua for First Ashra is: Translation: O! My Lord forgive and have Mercy and You are the Best of Merciful Be Merciful To Fellow Beings The objective of first Ashra is practicing being merciful to your fellow beings by Giving charity, the act Allah loves the most.Treat fellow Muslims well by controlling your temper. Help people whenever wherever and never say no to them because Allah helps those who help others. 2)Second Ashra – Days Of Forgiveness Forgiveness is to do Astaghfaar for all sins committed so far by Muslims especially in the second Ashra of Ramadan and to repent unto Allah. Do Astaghfaar, feel sorry, desist from committing it again, and make sure not to fall for the same sin again.Dua for the second Ashra is: Translation: “I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed” - Days Of Maghfirah These are the days of Maghfirah and in the mid of Ramadan Allah’s forgiveness is at peak. He forgives only those who prostrate in front of Him with ashamed spirit and pledge in heart not to do the same again ever. Do Tauba as Allah loves those who repent on their sins, verily He is the only forgiver. - Be Kind – Forgive All While you are asking for Allah’s forgiveness in this Ashra make sure that you do the same to our fellow Muslims by adopting alike trait of your Lord and let forgive them for all their deliberate mistakes. 3)Third Ashra – Days Of Seeking Refuge The last Ashra comprises the vital days of Ramadan as it unveils those days that are termed as “mother of all days- Lailat-tul-Qadar” whose reward is the highest among rest of the days. Though the entire month is a blessing, yet Allah has provided Muslims with a night the last Ashra, night of decree greater in virtue and is better than the nights of thousand months. Stated in Quran “We sent it (Quran) down on a blessed Night. Verily,We are ever warning. Therein ( in that Night) is decreed every matter of ordainment. Amran (i.e. a command or this Quran or His Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messenger) (As) a Mercy from your Lord.” [Ad-Dukhaan 44: 3-6] Muslim besides zikar and recitation of Quran do Itikaf and observe special Nawafils, Salatuh Tasbeeh in third Ashra for beseeching sanctuary from hell. Dua for the last Ashra is Translation: “O Allah! Save me from the Hell – Fire.” http://www.quranreading.com/blog/three-ashra’s-of-ramadan-and-their-duas/ |

@diportivo Your solutions to no 1-6 is very funny Lol ![]() No wonder the rate of truck/car accidents is very high in Nigeria. To follow simple precautions is not easy in naija... I guess you don't want to depend solely on Motor boys instructions |
Large trucks(tanker, cement, containers e.t.c)and buses(commercial motor vehicles or CMVs)have operating limitations such as large blind spots, long stopping distances, and limited maneuverability that make it essential for other vehicles to put extra focus on safety. The following are 10 tips for driving safely around Large Trucks and Buses 1. Stay out of the “No Zones or Blind Spots” Large trucks and buses have huge blind spots(in red shade) located: -immediately in front of the truck -beside the truck driver’s door -on the passenger side which runs the length of the truck and extends out three lanes -directly behind the truck. *If you can’t see the driver in the truck’s side mirror, assume that the driver can’t see you. *Don’t drive in a blind spot – slow down or move ahead to stay visible. *Be particularly careful when merging near a truck or bus. You may likely be in a blind spot. 2. Pass Safely Make sure you can see the driver in the mirror before passing. Signal clearly then move into the left lane and accelerate so that you can get past the truck or bus safely and promptly. Don’t linger in the blind spot. Make sure the truck or bus is visible in your rearview mirror before you pull in front; give it extra space. 3. Don’t Cut It Close Cutting in too close in front of another vehicle is always dangerous, but it’s especially dangerous to “cut off” a commercial bus or truck. If you move in quickly from either side, you’re likely to be in a blind spot so the driver may not see you in time. Even if you’re visible, the vehicle may not be able to slow quickly enough to avoid a crash because of the amount of time it takes to stop. 4. Stay Back Tailgating a truck or bus presents added dangers. First, it puts you in a blind spot – or No Zone. Because trucks are so high off the ground, if you fail to stop in time (or get hit from behind) your vehicle could slide under the truck. Getting too close when stopped is also dangerous – particularly on an upgrade, where a bus or truck might roll back. 5. Anticipate Wide Turns Buses and trucks require extra turning room – they swing wide, or may even initiate a turn from a middle (rather than far right) lane. If a truck or bus has its turn signal on, never try to squeeze by it or get between the vehicle and the curb. When you stop at an intersection, never “block the box” or stop in front of the line, as buses and trucks require that space to complete turns safely. 6. Be Patient Trucks and buses have operating restrictions, and sometimes use technology like speed limiters. Honking, driving aggressively,or weaving through traffic won’t make the trip faster, but can cause dangerous distractions and crashes. 7. Buckle Up Wearing your seat belt is one of the most important things that you and your passengers can do to save your lives. 8. Stay Focused If you need to attend to a text,a call,GPS,or an app, get off the road and stop driving. Driving distracted can be as dangerous as driving impaired. Don’t underestimate the speed(or overestimate the distance)of a truck or bus particularly when making turns, merging, or changing lanes. 9. Don’t Drive Fatigued Take regular breaks, get another driver to relieve you, or get off the road and find a safe place to rest. 10. Never Drive Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs Alcohol and other drugs impair both judgement and reaction time. There is no safe limit for drinking before driving. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ourroads/tips-driving-safely-around-large-trucks-or-buses http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Driver-guide/Sharing-the-road-with-other-road-users/Heavy-vehicles.aspx

Speed Bumps (made from Asphalt and Rubber) Bumps(the worst)commonly found on Nigerian roads, are rounded and short, less than a foot long, and used when traffic speed needs to be slowed nearly to a halt. They: • Are an abrupt raised area in the pavement surface • Effective at controlling speeds on low volume private driveways and parking lots • Typically, 3 to 6 inches in height with a travel length of 6 in. to 3 ft • Cause significant driver discomfort at typical residential speeds\ • Cause vehicles to slow to 5 mph or less at the bump • Considered an increased liability risk on public roads • Truck, emergency response, cargo and bus passengers more likely to be affected • Maintenance headaches especially for plow trucks Here is a list containing the top ten problems with speed bumps: *They are detrimental to the environment, increasing pollution by forcing cars to slow well below the speed limit and then accelerate away. *They increase noise levels where they are implemented. Not just by engine and brake noise from people slowing down and speeding up, but also from trucks and lorries carrying loads that get bounced around. *They cause damage to vehicles, particularly sports cars (even at low speed). *They slow the response times of emergency vehicles. *They cause discomfort and back injury to drivers and passengers. *They often divert traffic to alternative residential streets. They cost drivers money by using more petrol and brake pads in addition to the damage caused to suspension, oil sumps and exhausts etc. This often makes cars more dangerous. http://www.stmarysmd.com/docs/speedbumpsvshumps.pdf http://trafficlogix.com/ Pics credits:Google.com |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMlim9QVeTY Speed bumps, speed humps and speed tables are among many types of “traffic calming” measures used to slow or reduce traffic in order to enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists. Speed Humps (Can be found on Lagos roads) Speed humps are raised devices, parabolic in shape, placed across the road to slow traffic. The sloped design over a 7 or 14 foot length of space encourages cars to slow down without coming to a halt. Speed humps are generally used for three purposes: (1) increasing the safety of residential streets, (2) improving the environmental quality of residential neighborhoods, and (3) improving traffic flow throughout a residential area. They: • Are a gradual raised area in the pavement surface extending across the entire travel width • Typically, 3½ inches in height with a travel length of 10-12 feet • Have evolved from extensive research & testing • Create a gentle vehicle rocking motion which results in most vehicles slowing to 15 -20 mph at each hump and 25 to 30 mph between properly spaced humps in a system • They are painted to identify a vertical change in the road. • Effective at controlling speeds without creating accidents or imposing. unreasonable or unacceptable safety risks • Either permanent bituminous ones or portable rubber ones can be installed--- there are pros and cons to each type • Can be utilized as a raised crosswalk as well(e.g the type in Eric Moore,suru-lere) Speed Tables Speed tables are flat-topped speed humps with room for the entire wheelbase of a passenger car to rest on top. The flat top design allows cars to maintain slightly higher speeds than they would on speed humps, slowing vehicles to estimated speeds of 20-25 mph. This makes speed tables the ideal solution for roads with typical residential speed limits Pics below:

shinebabe:Repairing/rebuilding the engine will be cheaper so far your mechanic is a Pro . Pray the worn out parts are replaced with an original one.If have the money, you can always get a new/fairly used engine. GAZZUZZ and other engine pros over to you ![]() |
Cars and trucks are designed to last for hundreds of thousands of miles, but not without routine maintenance and from time to time the occasional repair.Leaks If you ever find a fluid leaking from the forward part of your car you should have a technician take a better leak. Your car uses a number of fluids to operate its various systems and it needs proper amounts of them. Oil leaks, coolant leaks and others can all be detrimental to the engine if not taken care of. Decreased Fuel Efficiency A decrease in fuel efficiency can be caused by a number of issues. It is important that you take your car to a shop to find out just what is wrong. Generally a quick tune up will restore your car's MPGs. Check Engine Light When the check engine light comes on be sure to get to the repair shop for proper diagnostics. Lots of things can trigger this light. The longer you wait the worse the problem will get and the more expensive the repairs! Increased/Colored Exhaust Smoke An increase in exhaust smoke, particularly colored smoke, generally indicates some sort of trouble inside the motor. Blue smoke usually means that oil is being burnt up inside the motor. White smoke is an indicate of an interior coolant leak and black smoke means that too much gasoline is being burned up, which can result in a number of issues. Knocking Noise A knocking noise arising from the hood of the vehicle often indicates worn out engine bearings. These bearings are what the moving parts of the motor rest on and they will wear out due to high mileage or poor lubrication. If they aren't serviced if could lead to engine seizure. http://www.discountrebuiltengines.com/blog/engine-repair-needed-signs.php |
