Sheuns:Oil production is also usually preceeded by well over 5-10 years of research, exploration and field developments. Our leaders are just dumb; or rather they not dumb but just thieves. |
uuzba:Was wondering why no one else was mentioning this earlier in the thread. The report didnt mention there was an increase in output... The 300% is just a facade that's purely driven by the devaluation of the Naira. In 2023, $1 was N400 but now it's N1700. So by default if I export a tonne of cocoa every year, the Naira devaluation automatically means I earn 400% more in Naira; and we all know the inflation already swallows this extra income. Voodoo economics! |
Lol... The comments in this thread though! One valid lesson I've learnt under the sun is that as long as you're alive, there'd be thousands of humans who'd just HATE you for no clear reason. These folks would also be constantly frustrated and tormented by your very existence. An even more interesting fact is that these hating people aren't necessarily bad or evil people... |
There's a 95% chance the funds would be stolen, the projects abandoned, and not a single soul would be held responsible or punished... No be Africans again?... |
shizzleStar:The reason I supported Buhari in 2015 is the exact same reason I supported OBI in 2023 - I desperately hate what corruption is doing to Nigeria and will always back the candidate with the cleanest record in regards to corruption... You're right! It's disheartening and shameful seeing the very same people I teamed up in rooting for Buhari purely on the anti-corruption mantra, now turning around to support Tinubu, a renowned overlord of corruption and banditry. To these guys, it was just about tribe all along. |
Just imagine the number of people on this thread going over and beyond to defend and justify corruption. |
Goodnewsforlife:Oh yes, Tinubu has no whiff of corruption or a record of wrongdoing because the Nigerian courts said so. Even people like Ibori were cleared of all wrongdoing by the same Nigerian courts. Meanwhile, despite being a past governor, OBI has never even been questioned by the efcc let alone taken to a court. Do with these info whatever you please. |
Goodnewsforlife:Slow minds are only capable of seeing tribe, even in unrelated matters. I explained why I likened OBI to a saint in my previous comments, and nowhere did I make an allusion to tribe. For an African politician who has previously held public office, and who is contesting for the highest office in the land, if after the excruciating scrutiny he's been through since 2019, the only thing you lot can pick on him is that he has some of his personal money saved in a safe haven, an act which isnt a crime anywhere in the world, then the man is literally a saint. I'm pretty sure your brain would still interpret this from the tribal lense again cos that's all you're capable of. |
Goodnewsforlife:How dumb can one possibly be to input tribe into everything?.... What has the argument or the comments I made got to do with tribe? After 5 years of rigorously scrutinising OBI, the only allegation you lot keep regurgitating against him is that he saved his personal money in a safe haven, an act which isnt a crime anywhere in the world. Meanwhile the one you hail in aso rock also has funds in the same safe haven... |
Goodnewsforlife:Most of you who keep churning out this lame argument to justify the banditry going on in aso rock, if you guys were sensible, the first thing you should have asked is, whose money was saved in the safe haven? If after 5 years the only allegation you guys can still come up with against OBI is that he saved his PERSONAL money in a safe haven, then the OBI is truly a saint. |
blueAgent:Trust me, despite the tribal, religious and/or political allegiances, the masters and PhD degree holders who supported Tinubu were in the minority. If you analyse the last election results thoroughly, you'd realise the APC did poorly in urban areas where you'd typically expect to have more learned and comfortable people. The majority of the driving votes they got were from rural areas habited mainly by uneducated and poor people. Even in the north, APC didnt do so well in urban cities like Kaduna and Abuja. Another indicator was the online opinion polls prior to the elections where Obi kept winning with over 90%... Participants of those polls were mainly younger people who are mostly educated at least to secondary school level (this is the demographic you'd typically find on social media). Again, despite the tribal allegiances, thousands upon thousands of educated younger Yorubas (and ecen northerners) voted against APC. So my conclusion from the last election is that widespread illiteracy, not even tribalism, was the reason APC got the votes they got. |
muykem:@muykem Everything you mentioned there is either an empty achievement or just laughable. Kudos to you though for making an honourable attempt, unlike most of your 'empty' colleagues who just resort to dragging OBI or mentioning "Ipob" whenever these debates are raised. Firstly you mentioned fiscal stability, but that's just one laughable point. With the Naira crashing from N400/$ to N1700/$, the FG and states now earn 2-4 times more than what they earned compared to the Buhari days, but despite the hyperinflation, only a few states have agreed to the new minimum wage which is barely double of what it was before. In otherwords, states paying even the new minimum wage isnt fiscal stability or responsibility, rather it's economic wickedness and retrogression. You also mentioned revenue to debt ratio improving from 97% to 67%. Again that's another dubious statistic cos the current govt has actually borrowed more. The 97% to 67% figure is just a reflection of the crash in value of the Naira. The bulk of Nigeria's debt is local debt in Naira, so crashing of the Naira automatically reduces the debt ratio. That isnt exactly an achievement and neither is it progress; rather its just fraudulent exploitation of local lenders. Sheuns:Absolutely nothing listed there is an achievement worthy of celebration. |
DIVINEEVIDENCE:A university degree is even too much. If the minimum requirement to obtain a voters card in Nigeria is a WAEC result, regardless of the rigging, APC wouldn't have won the 2023 election. |
Kobojunkie:All I said on this thread was that whilst it is possible that a pastor was arrested, it is very unlikely that a "ladies and gentleman" statement was the real reason for the arrest. How exactly did your brain interpret the above bolded statement to mean a 'defense of pastors'? I understand you may have been defrauded or perhaps molested by a fake pastor at a young age, which obviously explains your unhealthy obsession with pastors all over Nairaland. But you desperately need to seek help because I'm beginning to see reason with others on this forum who think you're not okay. |
Kobojunkie:Not sure what a pastor or pastors did to you, but you need to seek help quickly cos the trauma appears to be affecting your mental health. |
Kobojunkie:And how are you aware that the said suspect has no other criminal accusations against them?... You have no idea who's being talked about, you have no clue what the case is about, but somehow you believe it is sensible to make a conclusion based on empty assumptions? Meanwhile, from everything I've said on this thread, what or where was an excuse made for anyone? Omo! Characters dey this forum o!! |
Kobojunkie:There are 1001 reasons why a person can be arrested. You and I have no clue about what happened so quit making assumptions and jumping to conclusions like a typical woman. |
Kobojunkie:I made it clear in my very first post that whilst it is possible that a pastor was arrested, it is absolutely unlikely that a "ladies and gentlemen" statement was the real reason for his arrest. With this in view, I wonder why you still keep quoting me and regurgitating the same point on freedom of speech... Or is my English grammar too complex to comprehend? You say because the "ladies and gentlemen" statement isn't a valid reason for an arrest, then so therefore, no arrest ever occurred. How can you just jump into conclusions like that on a matter you have absolutely no clue about?... Aren't you aware there are over 1001 other reasons why a person can be arrested? |
Kobojunkie:Two issues were raised in the report: 1. That a pastor was arrested 2. That he was arrested because of a statement he made. My point is simple - There's nothing unusual or incredible about a pastor being arrested in the UK and this wouldnt be the first time an Rccg pastor will be arrested in the UK. In view of this, I have no basis to dismiss issue No.1 above as false... However for No.2, I do not believe the reason given for why the pastor was arrested. Please feel free to disbelieve the entire story if you wish, but I have made my own point. Thanks. |
Kobojunkie:Go back and re-read my first response, gosh! is that too hard? If a person tells me they drank tea in the morning, I don't know about you, but I think it'll be silly of me to start doubting and searching for proof that they really drank a cup of tea (that would be utter joblessness). But on the other hand, if someone tells me they consumed 2 litres of vodka before driving to work, then there's a genuine reason for me to question the veracity of their story. Now to the matter at had, the report claims a pastor was arrested for saying "Ladies and Gentlemen!" In my original comment, I clearly stated there's nothing unbelievable about a pastor being arrested in the UK; however, I doubted the real reason for his arrest was because he said "Ladies and Gentlemen".... @Kobojunkie, what so difficult to understand in what I've just explained? |
Kobojunkie:You're still jumping to type a response without bothering to read and comprehend. I rest my case with you! When you feel ready to comprehend, go back and read my first and the last comment! |
Kobojunkie:If there's no logical reason to doubt a story, what's the essence of doubting it, especially when it doesn't even affect me in anyway? Is it just trying to be overly smart or perhaps a carried over trauma/paranoia? If a colleague at work tells me he drank a cup of tea before leaving his house, why should I start doubting him? Does that even make sense? Conversely, if the colleague tells me he drank 2 litres of vodka before driving to work, then I have a genuine reason to doubt his tale! Comprende? Modified: Lol... Now I actually see where your problem stems from; you read my original comment just for the purpose of responding without waiting to comprehend it first. ![]() Kindly re-read my original comment below, but this time slowly and with an open mind. Perhaps you will understand my point. obailala:I didnt doubt that a pastor was arrested (that's a nonrmal phenomenon), but I obviously questioned the 'real' reason why! |
Kobojunkie:Huh?! Using an illogical question to evade the simple question I asked you... My reason for believing it is because he said it, and I dont have any sensible reason to doubt it. If a random stranger I meet in a bus tells me his wife recently put to bed, why should I start doubting him for saying something which is a very common and natural phenomenon? What's the logic or sense in going about doubting everything I hear, including irrelevant things? If you have a reason to doubt the occurrence of a very simple and common natural phenomenon, then the onus is on you to explain to us why you believe it is false. |
Kobojunkie:Well, the story says a pastor was arrested and I dont have any reason to doubt that a pastor was arrested; do you? |
emmabest2000:I swear! ![]() When I read this report this was the first that came to my mind. The arrested pastor hasn't told us the real reason he was arrested! |
djon78:The problem is the economy!... That the economy is bad doesn't necessarily invalidate the point being made that skilled technicians and artisans are more needed than degree holders in driving industrisation. |
Kukutente23:Well, your point is that we lack sound innovative engineers in Nigeria, TRUE! But my point is that if Nigeria is to be industrialised, we'd still need far more technicians than even the innovative engineers. A massive majority of employed engineers in nigeria today are doing technician roles. It largely highlights the fact that despite our battered economy, skilled technicians are still in far higher demand than engineers. This is just how it works, even in industrialised nations. |
Kukutente23:What we truly lack in Nigeria is a working economy that rewards skills. If Nigeria had a working economy, you'd realise we're still in dire need of many many more of that Mukaila guy as opposed to engineers. Are you aware an overwhelming majority of 'employed' Nigerian engineers are actually working as technicians? This should give an idea of which roles are more needed between engineers and technicians. In industrialised nations, how many people have university degrees? For every 1 graduate, there are like 100 technicians/artisans. Even those C++ programmers you talk about, 99% of them didnt see the walls of a universtity, so they basically fall in a similar category as technicians/artisans. The problem with Nigeria is just the terrible economy and poor reward system which treats artisans/technicians as shiit. |
Kukutente23:Lol... you think if Nigeria was an industrialised nation with a functioning economy, a university trained agric engineer will be the one mounting a tractor to harvest maize in a farm? In industrialised nations, you really think its university trained engineers who work in 12 hour shifts, standing in manufacturing assembly lines to mass produce and package equipment, machines and other products? Lol... You're actually a victim of Nigeria's failed economy, that's why you can't differentiate the roles of an engineer from a technician. |
Kukutente23:Nigeria's economy is dead, so your analogy is rather invalid. But that being said, the keypoint I tried to raise is that in that industrialised nation, for every 1 lathe machine design specialist, there are 1000 fitters/machinists. |
Kukutente23:So after the engineers and scientists develop those semiconductors and design those industrial machinery, who do you think mass produces those items on an industrial scale? Do you think industrialised nations like the US, UK, Germany etc have more university trained engineers and scientists than skilled artisans? You have to be careful how you mock the IQ of people because you might just not be as good or better than they are. |
