It's high time this NYSC scheme is scrapped or reformed or else this uncircumcised scumbags will keep spreading their network. Last time, it was in Maiduguri now it's in Kano who knows where they'll hit next. The incidents have become one too many.

nuzo:

As far as the victims of that rape are not Hausa muslims, the case is closed!

Take it or leave it.

They wouldn't dare do this to their fellow indigenes, that's what makes me crazy!

Andre Uweh:

Unibadan might have been situated at the Heart of Yorubaland but it has Nigerians at heart. In my final year at this citadel of learning, there were 42 students in my dept. Yoruba-15, Igbo-15 and others were 12. This shows you the composition of UI.

Truth is Ibadan has from inception had many Nigerians @ heart. Owing to the fact that it was the first college (as it was called then) to be established in the country. For the records, it's first Vice Chancellor was Igbo, Prof Kenneth Onwuka Dike. Eminent non yorubas that passed through the institution include John Pepper Clark, Chinua Achebe, Cyprian Ekwensi e.t.c. Nsukka that has the 'University of Nigeria' tag is good(i'm an alumni) but objectively speaking, Ibadan wouldn't have been a bad choice.

All the aspirants who lost in the contest should accept their situation gallantly and abide by the party’s decision as allowed by our constitution. We do not see why anyone will want to take our party to court knowing full well that we have great men and women in charge of affairs who can resolve whatever differences that exist,’’ he said.
Was there ever a contest in the first place? I don't blame him(Ogbulafor), is it not the same process that produced him as national chairman? I didn't expect him to talk differently. For those that were not favoured(as far as i'm concerned, Soludo was favoured for the position hence their resolve not to hold any primaries), theyshould have known the kind of party they were in and if i may ask what's so special about being anambra governor that 47 people are aspiring? To me it's foolhardy! Only one person will become governor @ the end of the day, so WTF!

I didn't mean to actually compare being a leader of a pressure group to that of a CBN governor, i was just hinting that both offices are not politically inclined. Soludo is an intellectual i must admit, but can he sterm the murky waters of politics? That's my concern. Another angle is his(Soludo's) sudden u-turn into politics, is it really borne out of the need to help develop anambra or it's just some kind of political refuge while all the series of CBN audit linger? I'm tempted to agree with you to an extent on his potential capabilities, which of course remains to be seen outside the CBN.
Politics / Re: Prof. Charles Soludo-the Real Deal For Anambra by obiem(m): 10:59am On Oct 18, 2009
Anambra is a strategic state in the south east and Nigeria as a whole, with a concentration of intellectuals unarguably the finest in the land. From Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chinua Achebe, Phillip Chukwurah Emeagwali, Pius Nwabufo Okigbo, Chinwuba Okadigbo, Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, the list is endless. She has always had this problem of leadership since 1999, from Mbadinuju the handbag of former godfather, Emeka Offor, to Ngige, a product of a rigged election who later turned against his sponsor, Uba. The rest of the story we all know up till when the stolen mandate was restored. Obi has in the past 3 years been on his stride trying to put anambra back on the path where Ngige was towing, that hasn't been easy i must say. Now comes this Soludo distraction! quite frankly, i don't see Soludo performing any magic in Anambra! CBN governorship and state administration are not same. If u doubt me ask edo governor, Adams Oshiomhole. I'd like to see Obi continue or better still AC win and Ngige coming in. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH FOR PEOPLES' DESTRUCTION PARTY!
Music/Radio / Is It Still Eminem? by obiem(m): 10:35am On Oct 18, 2009
When 2pac's posthumous album, 'Loyal to the Game' was released, i noticed most of the tracks were produced by Eminem, same for the previous one '2pac resurrection' where they did 'One day at a time'. The other day, i was listening to Brandy's 'Right here'only to discover t'was a remixed version feat. 2pac. I was amazed! same for Rihanna's 'We ride'. Is it still eminem behind the scene or is just artistes using Pac to gain further fame or what?
Is his mum Afeni Shakur still alive? She seems to be mum all dis while or perhaps she's aware of the various collabos which 'they' use her late son for?
Religion / Re: Is It Permissible To Adapt Secular Music For Worship?? by obiem(m): 2:37pm On Oct 12, 2009
Secular music adapted for xtian worship? well, methink it's a matter of lyrics. Some secular music, motivational ones such as World's greatest, storm is over, He lives in me (R.kelly, Diana Ross)etc were used by my fellowship in my university days. It should not just be any kind of secular music if you ask me. I remember R.kelly's 'storm is over' and Celine Dion's 'Because you loved me' being performed by the potters' house mass choir(Bishop T.D Jakes church choir).

All the favourites - Chukwuma Soludo, Annie Okonkwo and co will be shell shocked at the end of the day. Remember the melodrama of the election/nomination for the position of national chairman of the PDP? Ogbulafor surfaced as FG's choice @ the last minute when the heat was on between Anyim Pius Anyim and his kinsman, Sam Egwu. The situation in Anambra is highly tensed so i forsee a similar action carried out by Yar' Adua before repeating itself again. A more or lesser known person will emerge as PDP's choice giving the likes of AC, PPA and even the incumbent, APGA a very likely victory!

PDP has crumbled! It'll continue to,

The Ofala is their own version of Iri ji and that does not take their Igboness away from them.
The title of the Bini monarch is Oba yet Erediuwa is no a Yoruba.

I never argued about the Igboness of the ofala, i talked about some similarities in style between the two festivals. One is Igbo, while the other is bini.

Mind you, the benin oba and ever other oba has it's origin from yoruba land

Culture / Re: Is Port Harcout Not An Igboland? by obiem(m): 10:42am On Oct 07, 2009
First, a bit of history would do some good;

Port Harcourt originally known as 'igweocha' before the colonial secretary then Vistus Harcourt got permission from the then governor general, Lugard to rename it. This happened in 1912. Igweocha as it was known then was an 'IGBO' settlement as the people you call landlords today i.e the Ikwerre people were the ones to settle there first. The issue of whether it is an Igbo town or not remains complex as the ikwerres 'emselves don't entirely give in to the fact that they are an' ethnic stock with ''Igbo viens" runnin' in their blood, which inversly means that they re Igbo!

For those of us that understand Igbo, what does 'Igweocha' mean?
Culture / Re: Ofala Festival Goes International by obiem(m): 7:55am On Oct 07, 2009
Onowu - Iyasele

Now i'm beginin' to make out facts from what i read sometime ago about the Benin kingdom and that of Onitsha, that the latter originated from the former. The name 'Iyasele' is a bini name isn't it?

Both the Ofala and the Igue festivals i'm told also have strikin' similarities.

I also learnt too that the Obi of Onitsha goes by the title 'agbogidi'

Culled from theindependent.com

The man who will be exchanging vows with four brides simultaneously today says his wedding was a "well-thought cost-cutting exercise" rather than a record-seeking stunt.

Milton Mbele, 45, the municipal manager of the Indaka local municipality near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal , is set to wed four women all at once today in a Christian wedding followed by a traditional ceremony tomorrow.

Speaking to The Independent on Saturday ahead of his quadruple nuptials, which have made headlines across the world, the traditional polygamist said he could not wait for the biggest day of his life.
'It was a matter of negotiations, really'
"It was a matter of negotiations, really," he said of how he managed to get the women to agree to wed him all at once.

"I don't know what the future holds for me with them, but I am very excited about this, not just because it hasn't been done before, but because I believe in it."
Continues Below ↓

His brides, Smangele Cele, Thobile Vilakazi, Zanele Langa and Happiness Mdlolo, will share the stage in a wedding that has courted controversy and excitement alike.

The festivities, which will cost Mbele R100 000, will be held in Weenen and the traditional ceremony at nearby Nhlawe.

Mbele said he had thought about marrying just one wife 10 years ago, but later came to the realisation that he might be "tempted" to take more.
'I will accommodate all of them'
"I initially thought of just two wives," he said frankly.

"But then I met the third wife and decided instead of marrying them one by one it would make sense to cut costs, so in 2005 I told each of them about taking four wives all at once."

It would take another four years, though, to finalise the finer details of the plan.

Although Mbele agrees his marriage to his four sweethearts - aged between 22 and 35 - is rather unusual, he doesn't see anything wrong with it.

"This is my tradition and it can't be wrong," he explained.

"I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I have had sleepless nights preparing for this. It wasn't so difficult convincing all the wives to agree to it, each knew of the others in my life."

But Mbele is aware that having four wives under one roof might be a headache, so he's going to put them up in their own homes to avoid conflict. And, asked how he intends handling the competition among them for his attentions, he would only say: "I will cross that bridge when I get there".

"You know, like a lizard if you cut its tail, wherever it points to that's where I will be going depending on the mood. I will accommodate all of them, though, as I have already in the past

Yes i agree with AW, it's really outta his control and he can't do anything about that. When he was supposed to do something in august he did nothing. This team are no where near the finished article he always calls 'em. I see another trophyless season in view except things change in january. Ade really impressed me, he had a lot to prove to the fans which he did though it was a bit too harsh!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only. Yes We Can! by obiem(m): 3:37pm On Aug 12, 2009
I don't blame Cesc if he wants out! AW is sick of ideas, he has about $45m in his kitty and still ''looking out for one or two" additions to his team. Looking out for fringe players like Marouane Chamakh who scored 13 solitary goals in 53 appearances! What a player! Adebayor is far better! (ask John Terry). We currently do not have a replacement for the departed Toure and departing Senderos and it is unlikely that  AW would sign a defender save for Thomas Vermaelen. Being linked with players like Neven Subotic, Blaise Matuidi, Brede Hangeland, the effervesent Patrick Vieira and Salomon Kalou yet it seems unlikely that any two of them will join since AW's famous statement ''I'm content with the composition of my team who would have known that we would have Eduardo back in two weeks, same for Tomas(Rosicky). They are tremendous additions to the team, just like new signings and save for any further injury complications, we are fine''. AW refuses to accept that his team are the most vulnerable in the famous ''big four'' and will definitely crack this season especially with the emergence of nouveau riche Manchester city, hard fighting Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspurs if he does not reinforce his midfield, defence and frontline and stop depending on injury prone players!

TV/Movies / The Resurgence Of Igbo Movies @ 'Anulika' In 'Onyebuchi' by obiem(m): 10:58pm On Aug 06, 2009
Over the past weekend, a group of Igbo nollywood greats gathered to witness the formation of 'Anulika', an Igbo entertainment, arts/culture club which is aimed at promoting Igboness in the industry. It also witnessed the premiere of an Igbo flick ''Onyebuchi'' starring Zach Orji, Patience Ozokwo et al. There was also a language test by the organizers to show just how much of the language the participants are. People like Arinze Ezeanyanche, Ebele Okaro Onyiuke performed creditably in the language test while others didn't do so well. They also resolved not to relent in their the sustainance of the igbo movies phase of Nollywood.

Finally, after a long WAIT!

naliakar:

Perhaps one thing I have never quite understood is why Nnamdi Azikiwe abdicated his leadership of Nigeria in 1965-66. I consider this to be the seminal point of the sad trajectory that Nigerian leadership has evolved into. Why did he do it?

@no21 it doesn't sound like arabic to me

@poster, Zik did not 'abdicate' his position as President as u r implying. Let me take you back a little. After the republican constitution of 1963, Nigeria adopted a parliamentary system of govt which was in the system practised in most former British colonies. Based on the alliance between the NPC and the NCNC and their eventual victory in the 1959 general elections, a govt was formed with Zik as president and Tafawa Balewa as prime minister. In parliamentary practise, the prime minister is the head of govt while the president is head of state, just like what is obtained in Kenya right now with Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga as president and prime minister respectively. Zik wasn't exactly' active' thus Balewa was more in the limelight. When Nzeogwu and co struck in 1966, Zik happened to be away in the United states and Balewa was killed. So to say that Azikiwe abdicated his position is not entirely true.
