PoliticsRe: Soyinka Backs Obama In Ghana, Slams Kenya And Nigeria by obiem(op): 7:47pm On Jul 15, 2009
@vigasimple,
I'm not an agent of PDP or any sort of party whatever, but i'm not suprised at Soyinka's blatant scolding of Nigeria and Kenya for institutionalising irregularity and fraudlent means of coming into power, he's a social critic but reading Falana's view on the issue, it suprises me that Soyinka should have looked at it from the point of view of Falana's. Egypt doesn't promote democracy of any sort, Mubarak has been in power for as long as i remember, so does the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but Obama has visited 'em both. There are underlining issues that need to come to fore other than the aforementioned. I think it's beyond Nigeria being corrupt, which of course is true.

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has backed U.S President Barack Obama decision to visit Ghana. I'm suprised even after reading Femi Falana's stand on the issue.

PoliticsRe: "Igbos Are Not Our Enemies, We Need Their Number" – Asari Dokubo by obiem(m): 9:18am On Jul 15, 2009
becoomrich:
first of us, i am very careful when i read thisday newspaper. they twist the truth in favour of the igbos. since it is an igbo newspaper.
Last time i checked, This Day newspapers MD's Nduka Obiagbena, from Delta state.  He's delta igbo, majority of whom do not accept the fact that they were originally igbos that migrated back in time.

Don't want to think Asari's opinions were brandished to suit This Day's discourse, well we'll see if that be the case cos Asari reserves the right to sue 'em for misquoting him.
Music/RadioSamsong Or Etcetera? by obiem(op): 4:22pm On Jul 10, 2009
These are two budding talents; i wouldn't say they're upcoming, cos they are not. They are both talented! I have taken time to listen to both, especially their hit tracks ''Bianule by Samsong and ''Land of the rising sun'' by Etcetera (the song he did about the civil war that made me shed tears). A difficult decision to make between the two, but i prefer etcetera. What do u guys think?

PoliticsRe: Thins Fall Apart Is 14th Best Book In The World-the Only One From Africa by obiem(m): 10:21am On Jul 09, 2009
Achebe truly deserves a Noble prize for Literature. I don't understand y he hasn't been awarded that although he has come close twice in 2003 and 2005, and a Man Booker prize in 2004.

Anyday, Achebe's the best when it comes to fiction story telling.

Yes, it's a confirmed story. A MASSOB member actually did knock Governor Obi on the head. If i were him, i would relieve my personal security of his job immediately.

CelebritiesRe: Who Do You Think Will Step Into Michael Jackson Shoes? Too Big? by obiem(m): 3:32pm On Jul 08, 2009
There must be someone probably unborn or existing somewhere waiting 4 the right time.

But honestly speaking, it may take a century or perhaps forever to surpass MJ's feat and the feel he had worldwide.

FoodGala Hawkers And Their Dressing by obiem(op): 1:53pm On Jul 07, 2009
Overtime, i have taken time to study the way these young boys/men that hawk gala on the major roads especially when there is traffic jam(hold up, go slow) etc. They look so dirty, unkept, unbrushed etc. I begin to wonder perhaps it's the stipulated dress code they set out for themselves since almost all of 'em look same.

Why i'm concerned is because i eat gala a lot, but their appearance puts me off gradually killing my love for the snack.
CelebritiesIs It Micheal Or Michael?(the Late King Of Pop's First Name) by obiem(op): 1:01pm On Jul 02, 2009
Since the death of the king of Pop, i have come across countless articles, tributes, dirge(s) etc all extolling the indelible impact he made worldwide through his music. One thing i particularly found conflicting (especially amongst nairalanders) is the spelling of his first name. I find quite a number of people spelling 'Micheal' as 'Michael 'and that has left me pretty confused about the true spelling. I used to think' Micheal' was spelt as 'Micheal' until i started seeing even on yahoo, times on line and other renowed websites, it being spelt as 'Michael'

Any ideas?

''This life don't last forever''

Michael's first lines in his recent effort alongside Akon. It's the world we're in, everyone's goin' one day, just that we don't know how, when, under what circumstance? Heart attack n cardiac arrest? semantics if you ask me.

The finest in these music genre( as far as i'm concerned) are all gone!

Elvis Presley  1978

then Marvin Gaye   1985

and Lesane Parish Crooks a.k.a 2pac  1996

then until yesterday, Michael Jackson

Music/RadioAre Their Careers Dead? by obiem(op): 4:49pm On Jun 23, 2009
1. Artis Leon Ivy a.k.a Coolio - For close to ten years after the release of his smash hit'' gangsters paradise'', this grammy award winning rap sensation has gone underground. Could  his countless jail sentences be getting at him?

2. Jeferry Attikins a.k.a Ja Rule - After his famed beef with 50 cent and Eminem, this 2pac wannabe( in my opinion) seems to have gone underground! Me thinks he was just 'a flash in the pan' and true to my thoughts, he is actually one.

3. Earl Simmons a.k.a DMX- Just like Coolio, DMX has not remained same after serving his last jail term. After asking '' Lord give me a sign'', i think the sign God gave him was that his callin' was to be a clergy!

4. John Jackson a.k.a Fabolous -  The smooth voiced rap sensation has been missing in action for a long time. His case, is quite unclear and he seems to have disappeared slowly. With the likes of Lil Wayne ruling the scene, i doubt if his comeback( if there'll ever be one) will be better than Mase's

5. The Outlawz - Since the death of their mentor, tupac they seem to have fallen apart. Also hit with the death of kadafi, the group didn't think it wise to continue with their career on stage.

Music/RadioRe: Who Is Terry G? by obiem(m): 10:56am On Jun 08, 2009
Benue state born Amanyi Oche Gabriel a.k.a Terry G is a fast rising hip hop/ Rnb act. He also doubles as a producer. He began as a protege of ex plantashun boi, Faze. He was on course to get a deal from Faze's album label, Independent entertainment before he got a mega deal from Bluemoon entertainment which he opted for, raising rumours that he had a beef with Faze, the reason why he left and all that.

See http://naijamusicbiz./2008/05/20/terry-g-says-E2%80%-free-me-is-not-directed-at-faze/

Since then, he has moved on, coming out with an album and also making a statement producing for top artistes like 2shotz feat Timaya, Illbliss etc.
PoliticsRe: Why Should The North Dominate This Country? by obiem(m): 9:17pm On Jun 07, 2009
By now, we should have by now accept it as our fate in this country that they (northerners) are '' born to rule". The south has done little to avert this trend, so it has stuck! Sadly though, we have to live with it.

The one that hurts me most is,

Accountant General of the Federation - Ibrahim Dankwambo

Minister of Finance - Mansur Mukthar

And of late CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi

These key positions are all held by northerners!
PoliticsRe: Exit Of Soludo From Cbn:matters Arising by obiem(m): 11:08pm On Jun 06, 2009
Soludo's appointment as CBN boss was a shift from the existing norm as the first CBN governor that i know picked outside the industry( i stand to be corrected). Ironically, as far as i'm concerned, he still stands out as one of the best that ever occcupied that office. When i read screaming headlines in dailies saying" Why Soludo was dropped'' i get furious, we all know he wasn't dropped cos of incompetence, but cos of the ethnic card being played by the Yar'Adua govt. Or better still, why wasn't Tunde Lemo made governor instead?I hope Lamido Sanusi knows that the task ahead is quite enormous, surpassing/equalling his predecessors' achievements is no mean feat, and not all about talk( cos he's been doing a lot of that lately).

She was nominated alongside Idols West Africa big hit, Omawumi in the same category which the latter eventually clinched. Saw her single video "Never felt this way before'', Methinks she gat stuff, graciously gifted just that her kind of music : rock is'nt so much appreciated by we over here (Nigerians) maybe cos i'm a rock freak. Overall, besides the rock thing, she's got quality!

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: UCL Final: Man United(0) Vs Barcelona(2) On Wednesday 27th May by obiem(m): 3:53pm On May 26, 2009
Very interesting match up, mmm can't wait 4 2morow.

United no doubt have been formidable this season except for the blip they suffered in the hands of Liverpool and Fulham, the Catalans too have fared same if not better but since they don't play the same league, this match is a cracker!

I fear for the defence of Barca without full backs Abidal and Alves, Ronaldo will have a field day on his day. But who knows?

I see a stalement in this one (1-1, 0-0, 2-2) extra time or penalties will likely be the decider! A cracker is on the cards! My heart longs for Catalunya!

Music/RadioOmawunmi of idols West Africa - Nigerian Brenda Fassie? by obiem(op): 2:49pm On Apr 06, 2009
Guys i don't know if u've taken time to see Omawunmi's recent video ''In the Music''. It's just a download of the late South African songstress kind of style. Her costume, moves, charisma, even voice kind of brought Brenda back to life! Wasn't a bad one if u ask me, but as Faze would say ''Khaki no be leather'' Originality is key!. She's talented no doubt about that (only Jodie was better than her amongst all the females in the competition by my judgement), i think she should do her own thing in her next effort.
