Pardon vs Clemency source: http://www.clearupmyrecord.com/pardon-vs-celemency.php Most people are probably aware what a pardon is. To refresh, a pardon is when a government executive forgives a certain criminal offense. While the offense stays on the person's criminal record, he is not subject to any further restrictions or criminal penalties that other convicts or ex-convicts may be subject to. In the case of a federal crime, a federal pardon must be granted by the President of the United States. In the case of a state crime, a state pardon must be granted by the governor, or in some states an entity such as a parole board acting on the state's behalf or in conjunction with the governor. Those who know what a pardon is may experience some confusion when they hear about a governor or president offering clemency. What is clemency? Is it the same thing as a pardon or something different? Can it be obtained in the same way as a pardon? Read on to straighten out the distinction between pardon and clemency. While clemency and pardon are not interchangeable, a pardon is a form of clemency. Clemency is a general term for reducing the penalties for a particular crime without actually clearing your criminal record. A clemency can come in the form of a pardon, which is forgiveness of a sentence, a commutation, which is reduction of a sentence, or a reprieve, which is a temporary putting off of punishment while the situation is analyzed further. Therefore a pardon is always clemency, but when someone receives clemency, it does not necessarily mean a pardon. A pardon is meant to indicate forgiveness of a particular crime, either because a person was wrongfully convicted or the punishment was not appropriate for the crime committed. A commutation is a merciful act offered when it is determined that the penalty given was too harsh. A common use of commutation is to reduce a death penalty verdict to life in prison. A reprieve may be given when more information is needed before it can be determined that it is appropriate for a person to serve a particular sentence. This is also often used in death penalty situations. It's important to note that in all cases of clemency, pardon or otherwise, the person's conviction is not overturned or removed from the public record. In fact, some people feel that accepting a pardon is tantamount to an admission of guilt. Those seeking to remove a criminal record will need to pursue expungement or having their record sealed. When a conviction is expunged, it is as if it never happened. There is no need for any kind of clemency because the crime is deleted from the record. This is obviously the ideal situation, and it happens more commonly than one might think. For many first offenses, even felonies, expungement is a real option. If you think you may be eligible for expungement or any other kind of relief related to your criminal record, you can check it out using the free eligibility check at ClearUpMyRecord.com.com. Just answer a few simple questions and you'll know very quickly whether expungement is an option for you or you need to pursue some other kind of clemency.

U r d biggest dullard of the millenium. What do u mean by Nairalanders? U r so dull it reflects in ur writing style... |
Virgin Finder: Do you know how many times GEJ has knelt down for Pastor Adeboye? And who is pastor adeboye, elijah? Come on men see beyond ur thwarted mind. Pastor adeboye a fraud using xtianity to dupe people and u dare to use him as a reference. Is dis d best u can do? Incestous obasanjo would have been a better argument. U need to try even harder to sound like a reasonable person. |
Virgin Finder: If crap is useful, then it is longer crap.Ur last line is full of desperation, when Nigeria disintegrates wat will u do...hug a transformer. Think of ways to create ur own wealth and stop waiting on wat the Niger Delta feeds u. Dis is y I call u guys cowards...go out there and struggle like the americans,we can't feed u and ur generation forever. |
torkaka: I have carefully gone through that list and seen that of the 77 companies listed, southerners make a majority in 65 companies! Now who will pay dis guy for his hardwork? D point is, revoke d ownership of these blocks from dese goons and give it to d owners of the land. That's what fairness is about. That plus 90% derivation to d oil producing areas. Esp d south south and d south east. |
romanlaw: LAGOS AGAIN! LAGOS IS FAST BECOMING A SAFE HAVEN FOR ROBBERS. Fashola should do something about security, governance is not only about commissioning small small renovated roads.Tell am...treating pimples when there is cholera. Mumu guvernor! |
Tenoil Petroleum Energy Services Limited granted OPL 2008 in 2007 has Jim Ovia, Tony Elumelu, Femi Otedola, Jacob Ajekigbe, Tony Ezenna, Ndi Okereke Onyiuke, Fola Adela, Funso Lawal and Nicholas Okoye as directors with Tony Elumelu as chairman. See d bolded: someone whose bank continues to cheat its staff of their entitlements and benefits has d money to float an oil company. Niggmatic: jeez! Una no dey sleep? Are u having a nightmare or a dream. Apparently u r awake. |
This is a fantastic step in d right direction. GEJ has proven his critics wrong again. The minister has shown that this govt is impartial in distribution of our commonwealth (even though mr. President comes from a part of d country dat has been grossly marginalised) . Haters keep hating. When some of ur kinsmen had their opportunity to do it right they preferred to plunder the Niger Delta's wealth. Well, something good has come out of the SS/SE. Let's enjoy it while we have...GEJ for president come 2015 or divide nigeria as per Biafra borders. |
Shameless Obasanjo could not do this given 8yrs....... GEJ pls teach them how to run a country (one they wished to milk and kill) |
Yorubas @ it again..... These people are a curse to this country. Oya..make una hide my post... |
@ poster...u stirred up a storm there. Well u say a woman, what kind of woman. Since pple are different it will b difficult to say dis thing or that thing makes all d women happy. Item 8 is more likely the option since it holds a lot of unknowns. On d average women love comfort-guranteed comfort. Maybe love will do or money. But usually a combination of both. Every other item u quoted is subjective. So my answer: love+money=happy woman. Anything short of those two boy ur relationship with the lady is just hanging on d threads. It will surely snap given a proper amt of pressure over time. |
Kamanda: The problem with Nigeria is that 99.99% of the people have an IQ of less than 10....U r a living testimony to ur assertion. Ur IQ is less dan 2. U need halp since 2 yrs ago. U r a fool for generalizing. |
Obiora4life: Lol, your bigotry has so blinded your eyes that you could barely see... I challenge you to produce your number of barrels PD X the current export conversion rate. Even at 1 million bpd x $120pb, that's $120million. That is ALL YORUBAS who produce all combined their total output, still not up to 1million bpd. So please, throw out your own figures.Nice write up! If they can't tink we will help them think. Very soon we will buy all d lands in Lagos and begin to rent out to dem(if dey can afford it). If u have money u can control any yoruba man. Just give him money and he will dumbale for u. Just don't give him enuf money to make him comfortable, just enuf to keep dem comin and betray each other. If abacha could use dem to get mko abiola and kudirat we can use money to get anytin from dem. Money is power. Igobs have money, thus they have d power. Oya gawk urself haters. |
mumu! Yorubas are sitting on oil wells and are quiet,. 1 yoruba's oil well fetch billions in "dollars" each day but nobody knows. 150 ibos sitting on spare parts (substandard by the way) and bring in combined 100billion. "naira". each day and they no allow the whole continent to sleep. there are two classes of Nigerians: Yoruba and others. The others are ranked in this order 1 hausa 2. ijaw 3. ibo.
Another hater just posted. O boi no commit suicide ooooo! Lol @ ur hopelessness,@sitting on oil. If u have wat it takes to stand as a nation make a case for splitting of dis country. When wise men speak even cowards would dare to wispher. U will 4eva remain indebted to d igbos 4 d rest of ur miserly life. |
But y wuld kanu trust yorubas wit his business. These pple have no wish to c anytin igbo succeed. When they are in d employ of igbos dey try to run the business. I worked in a bank and I saw dem try to kill d bank cos its owned by an igbo guy. Well let's learn our lessons. |
95% derivation to all oil-producing states or nothing. And seize dese oil blockz from non-niger deltans. Make dem go sort themselves out. |
GEJ get power die. O boi see liver. 2015 go hot. These ND boys will do wonders come 2015. |
My God you can touch the pain the yorubas here are feeling. Why this envy? Why the hate? I bet if an igbo man becomes president many yorubas would commit suicide. They can't even bring themselves to bear an ijaw man as d country's president. Well, yorubas will av to remain 3rd class citizens. Money is power, igbos have d money, thus they have the power. Now go and hang urself. |
Correct me if I am wrong, but yorubas don't seem to regard life. |
Likely MFM member, una too dey fight with unaself!!! O boi wake up and see the chains u have put on urself!!! Joagbaje: @OP |
Mumu see deviation!!! femmyb: They don't have that problem in Saudi Arabia. |
Silence is golden...even when a fool keeps quiet. This is one of the most foolish outbursts from a governor. If the killers had come in a car fashola would ban all cars abi What does this guy do with inteligence fed to him by the Police & SSS? U begin to question the mental health of some governors. Let this Fashola deny that there is no SSS report on this issue? But he has turned this into an opportunity to support his policies. Playing politics with lives of the electorate. Forget what these buffons are trying to tell us, Lagos remains one of the least secure states in Nigeria. Armed robberies, legalized touts(Omonile), ritualists(Oro and get rich types), cultists. Fashola knows d truth. All fingers point to this as d fallout of a cultist clash. We pity d bereaved family and pray that innocent citizens don't get caught up in dese clashes. Fashola..face ur demons and stop being a typical coward. |
wetin be dis ? Guy u b mumu!! SimonAndal: ILLUMATI SENT GUY WITH ILLUMATI DRESS. WILL ROT LIKE OBAMA SOUL MICROCHIP IN FIRE OF LOVE ORE WITH EARTH SOUL HUMAN FOR SEXY LIFE. |
Why invest in Nigerian bonds when the country will split in 2015. Caveat Emptor. |
Did she abort it? ![]() Just asking? |
Finally, make talk true (we dey envy these guys) na these guys dey run our economy as deir actions even determine the price of crude oil on the intl market. I respect my brothers...keep the flag flying, ratatatatatata!!! |
The first time I saw this "show of shame", her regal majesty was in the U.K. She was at the Jamaican Embassy and was begging the High Comm/ambassador for a visa for she and her kids to visit. That was a disgusting episode, and the show is equally irritating. Seriously, I doubt if Omotola would get serious roles without her good looks. The babe might as well rank on thje same level with those funny chics on Yoruba movies. Scrap that show cos its blocking the vision in television. |
I have been banned for speaking my mind.i.e. Defending my tribe and denouncing a religion that preaches violence and non-tolerance. I have learnt that the truth is bitter for some minds to bear. But d the must b told. I don't care 2 check who banned me tho...small minds! Its funny how they keep sniffing out my posts...its good to have fans though. |
