No facts? Just noise? |
I've red several posts on the success of Lagos being powered or engineered by a section of Nigeria. I think we need to critically assess the state to understand why it is the way it is as successful as it has become and who has contributed what Firstly, Lagos is naturally endowed and like a young woman with the curves in the right places, men will flock around her. The access to the sea and the scenery has helped the state in no small measure. But Lagos is not the only state that has a seafront. Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom states all have access to the Atlantic too so invariably, it has to be more than its access to the sea. Secondly, Lagos was fortunate, being the capital of Nigeria. You may want to argue what contribution it's being the capital has made but it wasn't the first capital if Nigeria neither was it the last. Calabar today doesn't attract half as much investors or generate the kind of interest Lagos does. Lagos ceased to be Nigeria's capital over 22years ago. How come Abuja doesn't today attract investors half as much as Lagos does? How come despite the fact that it ceased to be the capital over two decades ago, it is still relevant? It means there's more to Lagos than being the nation's former capital. In my opinion, the Yorubas' ingenuity has been largely responsible. Lets go back into history. Once upon a time, Nigeria had autonomous regions. It is on record that the most progressive and fastest growing region was the Western Region, led and controlled by Yorubas. After successive military administrations, the administrative structures were demolished and all states and regions were placed on the same pedestal. However, following the return to civil rule in 1999, Lagos and indeed the SW has once again, led by Yorubas powered an economic revolution. The question you need to ask yourself is why Lagos and not Onitsha since 1999? Why is the rate of development of Lagos and largely the SW faster than that of any other state or region in Nigeria? Lets examine the GDP figures: Seven different sectors dominate economic activities in Lagos State, led by manufacturing which, interestingly, contributes 29.60 percent of the state’s GDP figures. Road transport follows closely contributing an average of 26.47 percent of economic activities in the state. Other sectors in order of dominance include building and construction (19.60 percent); wholesale and retail (8.39 percent); telecommunications (3.71 percent); financial institutions (3.51 percent); and real estate (2.01 percent). The seven sectors account for 93.39 percent of economic activities in the state. Yorubas control these sectors and have contributed the most to the development of the state. I don't know what the rationale of 'without Igbos Lagos will be nothing' stems from. Economically from the GDP figures, Igbos do not contribute more than 15% of the state's GDP as the only sectors they dominate constitutes less than 9% of the GDP. You can take a walk into any blue chip company in Lagos and you won't be surprised that Yorubas dominate. What does trading contribute really? The whole of the sector doesn't even make up to a tenth of the state's GDP. I challenge anyone to tell me what Yorubas will be missing should all Igbos move out of the state. Just mention those things. This thread is for facts, figures and intellectual discussions and not illusional hate |
Duru1: Moronic numbskulls such as Joe Igbokwe should be banished from Igbo land. I shall take pleasure to eliminate any Igbo peep that works with or serves under Yoruba in any capacity in an entity owned or founded by Yoruba. Then start eliminating the ones in LASG, Sterling Bank, GTBank, Conoil, Glo, FCMB, FirstBank, Wema Bank, 90% of manufacturing companies in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo, airlines, telecoms companies, building construction etc. Using Joe Igbokwe to pass this goodwill message once again attests to the smartness of Yorubas |
Walk into any blue chip company (telecoms, banks etc) in Lagos and you will find more than 50% Yorubas They control six out of seven different sectors dominate economic activities in Lagos State, led by manufacturing which, interestingly, contributes 29.60 percent of the state’s GDP figures. Road transport follows closely contributing an average of 26.47 percent of economic activities in the state. EUROBOMBER: Yes my brother. All the eko chest-beating will cease. One key reason why Lagos is more developed than other states is because they have monopoly of the only real functioning port.As if there is no Port in PH and despite the concentration of oil companies, it is not growing as fast as Lagos under any circumstance |
bandb: Igbos. In lagos start a prolonged closure of their shops in protest of the deportation of the kin by the APC led govt in lagos. Yaba market has being confirmed closed and other markets will follow. You close your markets, we have a thousand alternatives We have a thousand alternatives, you count your losses You count your losses, you stop getting patronage You stop getting patronage, you become poor You become poor, you begin to beg You begin to beg, we pick you on the streets We pick you on the streets, we ship you back home We ship you back home, you reunite with your families Uncle Fash ... Reconciling families since 2012 ![]() |
Atouke: Where is Wole soyinka and Falana on this? Keyamo? Where are the Self styled Progressives? Where are the so called Vanguard of democracy? They know better. BRF is only trying to avoid a humanitarian crisis |
Mr Aboki: Its revenge time?!Of course you must bail because you are traditionally cowards Listen to Aunty Peter complain to Uncle Joe Aunty Peter: (In Celine Dion's voice) Uncle Joe, can you see what they are doing our my people? Uncle Joe: Which our people? The only people I know are in the creeks Aunty Peter: But uncle we voted for you (sobs) how could you use us and dump us? Uncle Joe: Well that's what everyone does. Aunty Peter: Uncle Joe can't you do something. Uncle Joe: Don't worry i will call Tinubu. Aunty Peter: Please sir uncle. Don't tell anyone I told you to do something (shaking) |
Hello guys Just wondering of there are any HR peeps in the house I've been on probation for well over two years now at the bank where I work Before joining, I was with another bank and I worked there for over two years and was confirmed However, when confirmation with my present bank came up, there were issues as my previous employer in the DOB they sent in which was wrong. However, I liaised with them and after some back and forth, they responded. However, my present bank has still not confirmed me as my previous bank in its response said I had filled a different DOB on a form and meanwhile my account details had my original DOB and l also submitted my original birth certificate as evidence of my DOB I'm considering an offer in another bank again and I was wondering if being on probation for over two years will affect my chances with another employer |
Lol Got my answers already ![]() |
Hello? |
Hello? |
Hello I recently had a pre employment test for a role in a telecoms company and my bp was taken twice and was high on the two occasions at 144 at first and then 130 next just ten minuted apart. I was surprised at this because the last time I checked my bp a week ago, it was 115/70 Is there anyone in the house who has had a pre employment medical with high bp and still called for an offer? |

This is serious O! But why? |
9ja_I_hail: The above statement is what i called correcting yoruba false propaganda with facts. We will never leave any of their lies uncorrected. Umu nne m let us continue until we are sure they drop this foolish mindset towards us.How are these facts? No links, no pictures. Even my 3yr old cousin will do a better propaganda But if in the small landmass, there are still jungles, it reinforces tha claim that the region is underdeveloped |
Something is just not right about this OP. An old story Guy must have a complex problem |
When you find out that the GDP of the SW states minus Lagos is bigger than the GDP of the SE, you say GDP doesn't show the strength of an economy (how naïve) When you find out that the population of the Yorubas is higher than that of the Igbos, you begin to argue that the figures were manipulated When you find out that the landmass of just one state in the SW is larger than the whole of the SE, you refer us to the map (how illiterate) So what should we do, we just leave you to continue to live in your illusions. Igbo Kwenu. The most productive, the biggest landmass, the smartest people, the most progressive. I hail |
FSU: Oyo = 28 454 km sqNo one mentioned Taraba here and what do you mean by Rivers Igbo? So we should add Edo and Itshekiri land to Yorubaland? We'll add one LGA from Osun to Oyo and it makes just one state in the whole of the SW bigger than the whole of the SE. So next time you guys decide to compare Enugu to Oyo, just be sure that you could do better by comparing the SE to Oyo in which case Oyo's GDP is even higher than the GDP of any SE state |
FSU: So they can have unbridled access to forge certificates and bestow on every Yoruba a paper certificate. 99% of certificates in Yorubaland are forged. This thread is for intellectuals and not your bigoted illiterate self |
FSU: Can we get the facts?I've posted the facts in my link. You can do the maths. It is bigger |
FSU: Just like erosion and flood have taken over 90% of Yorubaland, so Fasola us buying land everywhere outside YorubalandVery funny. Comparing the erosion in Yorubaland to that in Igboland is like comparing Lake Chad with the Atlantic Ocean |
http://macosconsultancy.com/Lists%20of%20Nigerian%20State%20by%20Landmass%20and%20Population%20Densityyy.html And when you consider the fact that 50% of the rest of the land has been washed away by erosion, you begin to wonder Now I see why they wanna push Biafra's borders as far as Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta and even Kogi and Benue states ![]() |
Blyss: Ibadan look like crap. Some people are just deranged |
all4naija: Beautiful! Why is so difficult to get good images from Nigeria by Nigerians?!It's the same world over. That's why there are amateur and professional photographers ... and cameras ![]() |
