MINI dish Under construction

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by obnelly: 11:16pm On Oct 05, 2013
Hey friends we have been having issues with irib signals lately,Majority of us have the money to acquire big dish and forget the stress but the constraint is space. In my design I strike balance between 90cm and 1.8m dish.So its not going to take much space than you could ever imagine and yet it should be able to deliver the result.Since good thing comes from the east. This" MINI DISH" should be able to solve the eastern weak signal. With cnn, aljazeera news,mbc1-4,max and action,Irib varseh, muvi and joy packages, we need not throwing our money in the bin.

I will surely keep you posted about the results.

cheers

Idango: The pots cost about N700 each. You will need to buy charcoals, a bag is about N1200 around IFO area of ogun state. You fill the pot with charcoal and and light the charcaol, you empty the ash and replace with new charcoala after 4-5 hours. The lenght of time the charcoal can last before completely burning off depend on the type of wood the 'coal was derived from. So far there are working perfectly. After the second week the pot will no long be required untill another set.
To me this is the most tedious part, you have to fan the charcoal to produce heat.Sometime you get carbon monoxide from the charcoal and you must be vigilant not to cause fire in the pen .charcoal pot with direct contact on wood shavings could be delicate.

If you have more than enough openings in your pen house ,you will use more charcoal as the charcoal burn faster than you can ever imagine.Check to see how chicks react to the heat ,its very important and prevent chicks from coming contact with the charcoal pot.

Profit should be the second thing ,first is your interest ,do you like eggs or meat. Both are profitable but you must do your marketing right.Livestock isnt a paper thing its purely practical.

I cant but start laughing in swahili,Its kind of funny reading post here.Four years in the field of Agricultural Engineering be it from Polytechnic /University and you want to let go all the knowledge acquired during those school days?Just like that .Well you must be joking.

Its a choice if what you like is Mech you have the right to switch, but as far as I am concern I am an Agric Engineer who waited for no jobs coming from any body .Its this part of the world that we under rate what Agricultural Engineering entails. Its applicable to what we do virtually everyday ,so if you are smart enough with your knowledge in that field you need not looking for white collar jobs but gradually build your empire from kobo to millions/billions and as you grow you see everything your professor taught you in the class coming to real life.

If you may have time to visit my farm you will see what I am talking about.I did everything just the way a professional will do things.CHICKEN ,EGGS ,BIO FUEL,ODOUR CONTROL,RECORD MANAGEMENT ,POULTRY CAGE FABRICATION.just to name a few of what you can do .

People feel remorse when you tell them you end up in the farm.Tell me can a medical Doctor work in the farm ,yes and no but he is rather better in the Hospital/CLINIC but can a vet doctor work in hospital? No.
Farm /field/lab/site is where we belong where we would be able to produce food for everybody.while the doctors are managing the health of people we are busy producing good /fresh food for people to eat .

Take it or leave it I will never regret being an Agric Engineer with specialisation in power and machinery.Presently I am running my private farm and I am generating better income.
Most of my friends who read accounting used to see me as a challenge .Go and work in the Bank,I will bring my money for you to count and the bank management will pay you from the money I deposite ,if you have BSC/HND,MSC ACA,ICAN.One day the owner of the bank will sack or retire you when you are no more useful to the bank and yourself but to me, hmmmmm my wax shall continue to wax stronger by the day.I will keep learning new things by the day and I will be the BOSS.
IF GOD NO SACK ME NOBODY FIT SACK ME".I will run the business till i go say i no get power to run the thing again."who fit sack Obasanjo from Ota .That is the koko. grin
Time to go to the farm.See you later.

concerning farming situated in a residential area, for how long shall we continue to move into the forest.I think its high time we looked into what the problem with poultry in the residential area is and the way forward.

Majorly odour is the problem why poultry /livestock farms are not located in a residential area .Even with the rate at which urban is fastly developing ,we still need urban farming where we will be able to get urban people with fresh produce like chickens, eggs and vegetables.

The only way out if to control the waste management .Making the waste more attractive and odour free.

Noise is another thing ,the decibel of sound in a poultry farm depends on the number of chickens available in the farm.We should be able to reduce the decibel to the minimum level. If this and other factors can be put in place our chicken we live better in residential area.

One thing I have noticed about people living close to poultry farms is that they dont smell with their nose but they smell with their eyes.So make the environment clean .make the view enticing .

I will be working on what we can do to make us enjoy our farms for years without the community/ies grumbling.I will keep the house updated.

Going through the whole post the meaningful post is discussion on c band with irib issue.we shouldn't discourage ourselves by saying a negative things about anybody's findings rather we should encourage ourselves till we arrive at the final conclusion on tracking irib with c band.what ever we post here is just a reflection of who we are irrespective of the geographical location we find ourselves.we are ambassador and we are representing our countries.this is internet based research center where everybody post for the benefit of satellite hobbies like us.pls let us encourage ourselves ,nobody is all in all.if we give newbies the chance to grow he may later feed us with latest technologies .let us encourage and discuss things that will be of benefit to all and sundry.no issues like my receiver signal is off.few months back a friend he shown to us how to increase our storage memomry and how to build internal memory in other to record using our pvr decoder this is the type of questions we should embrace.the number of post per day should nt count but the question is are those post really educative and informative enough.pls let us make it a standard thread/post.

locate the focal point and cover the entire surface with foil ,place your lnb at the focal point you will receive some amount of signal.I mean the basket.

Lunsat: This is exactly my question. Can we now with this formula lock on to Cband channels with KU lnb and Ku channels with Cband LNB?
I doubt if that is possible.remember you still have to use c band on your dish to receive the signal ,what your decoder does is to convert c to ku frequency.
For example after the conversion I tried to move my dish to same satellite using ku band lnb ,but tHe result was zero .so don't bother to use ku band lnb to track the converted dignal it won't work.
My people let us start the learning process. Please note that I cannot do this alone. I need everybody’s input. I am just a starter and I believe we will learn a lot if all contribute else thread will dieeee.

NO TOO MUCH ENGLISH OOO, JUST EXPLAIN THE WAY EVERYBODY WILL UNDERSTAND

Lets start with BROODING which is one of the most difficult aspect of poultry.

to me brooding involves taking care of DOC from day 1 to 30 days or day 1 to 60 days. the first thing you should consider before starting brooding is where to get your DOC. this is very important. there are many quack farms in Nigeria.

Its true that our body temperature is not the same like our doc but when the heat is high or low their is a way the doc react to change in temperature.

God's willing I am working on a research when we would be able to use chicken dropping to generate space heating for brooding.
the dificult part in brooding is generation of heat. DOC need heat (temp above 35C

olenyi: @pboy2busy.

Do take note.

@obnelly,

How far about ur irib hunt. Do update us.

Regards.
Arabsat 20e isn't difficult to track but its unfortunate that most people will find it difficult to pull in irib varzuzh on the same satellite.tracking with aljazeera news tp will make things easier but remember to get your irib signal to be stable your aljazeera tp must be 96/97.irib signal isn't like aljazeera tp like most people think.do not compare aljazeera tp with irib tp even with your 80 per cent on aljazeera ,irib will only flash or not stable.until your jsc is close to 96 you have stable signal.so those people who thing with 90cm things would be fine ,well I regret to tell you yes and no.if what you want is aljazeera news on 9ocm I will say yes and if its irib I will say no its not possible on 90cm.use either 1.8-2.4m for your irib to avoid any hiccups.
Shalom.

How often do we carry out maintenance on our receiver?I guess not everybody love doing that.once in a while always open your box and cultivate the habit of dusting the box.it could safe you money to buy another box.after 3 yrs in use my box started misbehaving, signal keeping failing on the tuner .I tried to re aligned my dish same problem,I changed the cable still no positive result.Iater changed to another receiver lying fallow in my bedroom, the signal was ok I unplugged and replugged my faulty box ,same problem.I took a bold faith to see what the problem was, after opening the box I saw heap of dust and some spider webs inside the receiver.I took my time, clean it and recoupled back .in no time after booting the signal pop up.and I have bEen enjoying my receiver now 3yrs still counting.let us always cultivate that habit of carrying out maintenance .remember if you are not good at handling electronics don't bother to do it.

jamp: Don't panic. DOC behave like that sometimes. Most of them will be sleeping while some will be active. Try give them glucose to boost their energy level after a long journey. Keep giving them the multivitamine and antibiotic

Goodluck
Did you follow a particular breeding program?how old are the chicks ? Is the temperature too high or too low?if your chicks arrive after 3-5 days all must have adapted to their new environment.I give you some pass mark to have observed some were just sleeping?if the temperature isn't to ok they may be sleeping and if they are too stressed up the chicks will also sleep.
Are they panting?

Hmmm you better watch your back.watching pay tv without legal means is illegal.my advice.
Those people that love bbc news move your big dish to badr you can now enjoy your news on high definition.

Kd why not re align your dish using intelsat as your prime focus.something is wrong with your alignment or the lnb pointing to intelsat.
@ Oga Obnelly, much as I always respect your opinion, I beg to differ in the strongest term this time . Cutting and replacing with a polythene bag is a very unsustainable and self-destructive approach that any Guru like you should ever propose !!!
I guess you are getting the picture wrong.how can you put in polythene inside the throat of the lnb, then where do you get the signal into your lnb.you are getting it wrong my brother from Ghana.ok figure it out like this get a bottle of coca cola/alomo bitter remove the cap.buy a loaf of bread eat the bread and keep the nylon.now use the nylon to cover the mouth of the bottle ,make it smooth as poSsible such that you don't have rough surface then find a means of holding it in place using adhensive.if you look through the mouth of the neck you should be able to see the bottom of the bottle.I hope you get my gist.

Olenyi and George ,water in the lnb depends on the angle at which the satellite is positioned.if the dish is pointed to any satellite that is less that 45 degrees water can never have its way or build up inside the trunk.talking about cutting or removing the cover to increase the signal quality, that I have done and I can say it really work for me .I have increament in my signal strength but what people fail to do to prevent cobs web building inside I used to use colourless polythene to cover the mouth of the trunk ,so if you move above. 45 degree no water accumulation and if spiders is the aheadache the polythene still prevent it from entering onto your lnb.hope people that still love to cut lnb s mouth can still use this simple tech to increase their signal and still prevent water and cob webs build up inside their lnbs.

samshoz: Great farmers, which formula is cost effective for poultry, i have like 70 birds(Broilers and cockerel), they feed(25 kg bag:N2,400- weekly) like birds on a suicide mission, due to over eating lol. Its eating deep into my pocket and they are 22 days old today. Any advice on how to save cost and still feed them effectively? Pls dnt ignore like u did my questn earlier.
Before you embark into production of broiler or cockerel you need to ask yourself some questions like:
How many days am i going to feed this birds to slaughtering weight.
what day am i going to sell them off.
No doubt chicken for meat production do eat more than enough feed but with your right calculation and slaughtering date /selling date at hand ,you should be fine otherwise you will keep feeding them till you dont have nothing left in your bank account.

Go for grower mash Its cheaper .
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by obnelly: 7:45pm On Aug 16, 2013
Idango: Hi guys, thank you all for contributing to this great thread, i am also an intending poultry farmer. My interest is the broiler, but i keep hearing every body saying there is no market ( both on this forum and outside) and i just wonder why. I was listening to a fast food owner not long ago and he said there is shortage of chicken for meat and he gave example of the fact that the largest chicken processing plant in South Africa process about 1,000,000 chicken a day while the largest chicken processing plant in Nigeria which is in Lagos process about 35,000 chicken a day ( can you imagine that) and our population is tripled that of south Africa.

So what exactly is the problem, food sellers are saying no enough meat, farmers are saying no market. Please can somebody help shed light cos i believe the main money in this business is on the broiler.
As a scientist you dont base your reports based on past record. You need to create market for whatever you intend to sell.Remember if you cant get your right customers you wont succeed in selling your products.Do your survey before you jump into production of either cockrel or broiler as the case may be.Its fun when you get the right market for your products .
