Did i really read this or i just imagined you put this crap there in error? sad The colonial masters only did to ease administration, no ingenuity was involved..

I do not care for Kanu and his brand of hate filled rhetorics but there is nothing fundamentally wrong with wanting to be in charge of one's destiny & carve out a seperate path for oneself...

This present agitation was borne out of a knee jerk reaction to losing political stock (irrefutable fact!!!) but they still have inalienable right to self expression which you

Ojukwu is not a factor here since he never got his wish

There is no unity in coercion... I'm only pro unity because a bigger country is able to achieve more if the atmosphere is conducive and everyone's thought align but in a situation where it isn't obtainable, peaceful and advancing smaller nations remain great alternatives..

BTW, you also can't force patriotism on people, IT'S A CONSCIOUS CHOICE...

Mehn, a taya for you people!! Seriously..
You couldn't have said it better, the beast you quoted was only interested in mudslinging this earlier morning.
Any discerning mind from any part of the country knows that the current system of government is counter productive.
For heaven's sake, can't we look at what is obtainable in the world?
Do you think that a country like Canada would be peaceful if the French speaker Quebec didn't have their regional government with the federation?
Northern Ireland resolute to terror just to leave the UK.

Without National Consciousness, any useless coerced unity will go up in flames.
Nigeria long overdue, the ethnic composition are large enough and mature enough have there own economic, political and societal ideologies.

sad Restructuring is not the solution but the present status quo. Restructuring is a cunny attempt by easterners to achieve biafra and it won't happen. History tells us Ojukwu was able to instigate the civil war because he was the head of Eastern region. If we go back to regionalism, non-entities like Nnamdi kanu will rise again and start pushing for biafra which is a bad omen for Nigeria. No part of the country must be allowed to split for no reason. Lord Luggard was an intellectual when he merged us together. There is strength in unity. Let's keep maintaining the present federal system till the Igbo's are patriotic enough to forget biafra sad

Apart from calling the team "square pegs in round holes", what suggestion or alternatives has he offered?

32% of Nigerians expect Buhari to print dollars/naira to tackle the economic recession brought upon us by our wrong past choices. And once he can't do that, they want him to resign!

The same set of people (the 32 percenters) will ferociously oppose the government's plan to seek and get emergency powers to tackle the economy and still blame the govt for not doing anything to solve our problems.

It's the same 32% that will support and pray for the success of the economic saboteurs (the scAvengers) against the country but still turn around to blame the government.

If you do all these and still expect better living, you're a big joker! Your suffering is just beginning. No short cut to success and no food for lazy man.

awelekiti:
You can say that again. America, China, Japan shut their doors for at least, 10 years without travelling out of their countries. During these years, they were busy developing their countries. Now they're among world powers. America will say come, come and live...they will real out various visa programmes. They won't say come and develop our countries for us so you won't suspect that you're going to be enslaved again, but in an advanced manner. And when you get there, you'd be building their economy for them. They'd first say you must not travel to your country of birth for some years. Before you collect you salary, you'd have spent it all, even if your brother or sister is getting married, you dare not step out. They'll set a living standard you'd be struggling to maintain, you and you get hooked eventually and remain their slaves for life. I'm not discouraging anybody from going to America or any of the western countries to live but that's the realities on ground. Before you know it, you're already old and will become less productive with little or nothing left as savings. I stopped putting up at my friend's place each time I visit because instead of them entertaining me, I'd be the one spending. If you want them to stop picking your call, pls tell them to send you just a hundred bucks. No place like home. Nigeria is a fertile soil to those who can look beyond their noses for opportunities.
Bro, what will you say about someone who graduatedcfrom a university spent almost 8yrs before he got a job of 100K. Four months after he got the job he left for a North American country, did a 2yrs graduate certificate, got a job $50,000 within 2months after school and Now affords to live comfortably.
Do you think he will agree with you?

Many Nigerians are in this situation as we speak, many people are ready to work but no jobs, many are ready farm but no capital, many are ready to invest but no capital.
Nigeria indeed ranks high in ROI, but then to start live as a young graduate here is very difficult.

Toks2008:
Your gamble was a success with U S trust me on this ..visa application process is more transparent with U.K and Canada despite your case.
I know nothing about the UK, And yes you a very correct about my gamble with US. I was actually persuaded to try by my family.
Meanwhile my older brother graduated from a school in Canada and I was sponsored by the person who sponsored his studies few years ago.
If you have seen a Canadian refusal letter, they have over 20 reasons for refusal. I applied three times, the first two times were "insufficient funds to pay for your tuition and living expenses", in both applicstions I provided my sponsors financial and document and made a tuition payment for a semester. I was later advised to include my own personal finance.
So I did, for my third application I included my fixed deposit worth ($10,000), paid off the tuition worth $27,000, included my stock portfolio and bank statements.

Seeing that refusing my application for financial reason would seem stupid, they dug up another reason "purpose of visit". Totally contradicting the two previous reasons for refusal.
I had a nairalander who was in my exactly situation and copied my model to prove financial capability, his own application was approved.

Like I said there is no laid down rules at the American and Canadian embassies.
They are trained to process applicstions like a criminal case where they profile you with simple information from your application, informations you never thought were relevant.
I know this because I investigated my refusals with Canadian embassy by requesting for my case file.
I paid $25 each time to get my refusal case files. That is where you will see notes made by the officer who handled your application.
From mine I was accused of different things, from wanting to join my brother because he relocated to the town where the school i applied to was, to spending more than the required 5yrs to study engineering therefore I was perceived not to be a genuine student.

One even mentioned my parents not having funds to sponsor me despite the fact that my application never mentioned them as sponsor and my sponsor (older sibling) has already sponsored my older brother who did well in school and now work for a company.

The "insufficient fund"was a rouse to through me off balance which they successfully achieved.

If you want transparency in immigration go to the German embassy or Apply to Australia

Just try London, Canada and see how these countries take time out to verify your intention and God help you that you are found wanting...na ban straight....that is commendable..

But U.S application is so whack and even if you are an intending terrorist, just perfect you vocal skills and convince the consular officer and that is it...you are in..

The most annoying part is the generic reason for refusing people talking about not having enough ties in your country and I tend to wonder that out of the number of people who demonstrate that they have strong ties how many do come back?

United states visa application process is the biggest joke of all time anchored by comedians in the name of consular officers..so sad.
Canadian Embassy is no different from the American Embassy.
Infact Canadian Embassy appears worse.
My student application with them was the biggest horror of my life. They deliberately leave loophole and pitfall in the process.

My initial application was refused for insufficient funds even with my sponsor having 50X the required amount.
When I reapplied and paid off the entire tuition, added my own financial documents together with my sponsors, seeing that they could no longer hitch on finance to refuse my application they trumped up another reason "Purpose of visit " to refuse my application.

I applied to US, and my application was successful on first trial.

Both countries have no set down rules to verify applications, they just give visa officers arbitrary power to approve based on there discretion.

But I do ask them this question that what will be there reaction if an Hausa man in ladipo market or Alaba international market name his dog Ojukwu and inscribed that same name on it. How would they feel. The action of the man was born out of hatred for Buhari and should be condemned. Its not proper especially in a country like Nigeria. We all should be mindful of the thing will do and never allow hatred to becloud our sense of reasoning.
This is a morality issue not a legal one, thus might get a backlash from societial perspective not a legal one.
That is the point.

Going by your example, the man will probably get a backlash in the form of beating which will be an illegal act by the perpetrators but not a prosecution or in this case persecution.

From PMBs previous stint as head of state, It was only logical to have very little faith in him to handle our very plural, diverse and complex society.
he probably has good intentions to restore sanity/law and order to our society, he appears to have the will, but clearly lacks the approach, the wisdom and understanding to effectively deliver on his intentions.

We saw it in 1984 when he sent soldiers to dictate the prices of commodities in the market without recourse to cost of production etc.
We saw it when his draconian policies forced the UK government to introduce visa requirements for Nigeria traveling to the UK.

What sort of slowpoke arrogantly scruples the "artificial peace" of the region laying the golden egg at a period when the egg is half its price?
A 15yrs old with a waec would know not to do that. A 15yrs old would know to pamper the region, get as much as he can while heavily investing in other sectors agriculture, mining, manufacturing, trades, education etc. When these regions have the prospects to cushion the effect of a confrontation with the fraud called amnesty program and pipe contract by the rogue called tompolo, then you can systematically whine the country of oil dependence.
But no, the bigot in Aso rock went on zombiehighway with army of living dead supporter chanting kill them all.

Well let's see the result of that brain dead venture.
1.) Drastically Reduced output of crude
2.) Unnecessary death of our men in uniform.
3.) Shutdown of production plants
4) folding up of servicing firms creating more economic woes
5.) Then another very brainless move of spending taxpayers money looking for commercial crude deposit in the north. (One begins to wonder if these people read global news at all. I am 100% sure the world will never have need for as much crude as it did 4-5yrs ago, crude will remain on a downward spiral hence forth.)

Its been more than a fortnight since I got here while I do not have the experience of the gurus, but I have seen 9 states. I am going to take a more introspective or even pessimistic realistic view.
First your life will not automatically improve when you get here, I have found out self improvement, the desire to be better is a function of what you have on the inside (your self belief, determination), as it has been rightly said an ant in Sango will not turn to an elephant in San Francisco.
Two there are two different types of America that largely never mix and are vastly different in resources and experience. Blacks have a raw deal in America, I will not pontificate about it. Visit Randallstown and WhiteMarsh just a few miles from each other in Baltimore county and see the vast difference in life. Segregation is real, before it was enforced by law now it is just by Money(credit).
As an African not black, Whites will treat you well and defer to you because you are not 'African-American' while African-Americans long the basement boys of America will mock you. I find the treatment of whites condescending while I find that of blacks ignorant, I just want to be treated like everybody else (pipe dreams)
Let me drum it in your ears, you might spend 5yrs here or 500 but you are not American and you'll never be, trying will cost you heartache and lost dignity, This days Americans don't even know what America is, your kids might turn out all American but nigg*r you ain't sh*t (ebonics)
You will meet a lot of peeps here, some high flying students, many that dropped out or never attended school, many that got sucked in just because they gave the devil a Mouth Action ( they smoked crack) .
I have good roads now, I don't worry about light, I don't even do my ironings a week in advance in fact I do no ironings at all, laundry is cheap but make no mistake the road, electricity, fast internet is not free you pay through the nose. Not paying bills will see you quickly relegated to 3rd world standard of living in America.
I was complaining to a friend and he was like knowing all this, would you do it again? Yes, I would!!! I had the courage to leave , leave behind family and friends (painful) and seek a better life. I receive a lot of PM's before my account got shut with people saying how is it? , I got visa and no funding , I don't have school fees I want to leave Nigeria , what school? People ask, should I come??
I can tell you the following, where there is a will, there is a way, you will have more rights than you ever did in Nigeria but don't break laws and make your own damn decisions.

*sorry for the epistle its not for everyone
Nice and informative write up. At the bolded, I don't think it's worth anyone's time wanting to be accepted or not once you can get justice and equity from a system.
This is exactly the argument I have with my brother and friends everyday.
Someone takes you into their country, you get quality education, get a job and a better standard of living. You also get permanent residents and equally right to free Borns of the land minus the right to vote. These things you stood about 10% chances of getting in your own country but then being accepted (whatever that means) becomes an issue. Well Its probably the bush man in me that is talking but from my own perspective it looks like you we are not even accepted in our own Country to start with.
