germans almost knocked down the gate of Stalingrad and Leningrad before being pushed back when usa lend and lease started trooping in.. All na needed now is for the Ukrainian to keep holding while their comrades finished up wit their trainings on the new heavy armaments being supplied to them…

You think the Russians haven't learnt a thing or 2 from past history? The Russians have basically cut off Ukrainian supplies into the Donbass battlefront. A convoy of Ukranian "game changer" M777 towed artillery units were wiped out just last week. The Snake Island debacle wiped out most, if not all, Bayraktar UCAVs plus a number of Ukranian combat aircrafts & helicopters. The Russians have blown up train lines and traction power stations, every oil depot and refineries, arm depots plus manufacturing/repair facilities. EVERYTHING. Meanwhile the best Ukrainian units are almost trapped in the Donbass battlefront while the best reinforcement Kyiv can provide are Territorial Army units.....thats if they can get to the Donbass front...oh wait, the Russians blew up a major bridge.

Btw remember the Kharkiv front that the Ukrainians were busy celebrating about? Yeah, turns out it was a feignt by the Russians, drawing out crucial Ukrainian units that would've been useful in the Donbass front. Now they're trapped in a front that is no strategic value AT ALL to Ukraine. The Russian supply line from Belgorod through Izyum is totally intact as the Russians have way more Battalion Tactical Groups there. Even worse, worse, the Russians have established another supply line further west into the Donbass so there's a backup

Oh btw the Russians launched a MASSIVE a ir strike early today with waves of fighter bombers and attack helicopters.

In a nutshell, the Ukrainians are truly and royally f@#ked...

But hey, Ukraine is winning

There will be trouble if they strike Kyiv and kill an American. How else do you explain somebody going to a war zone to do business of not looking for trouble

As far as the Russians are concerned, the whole of Ukraine is an active conflict zone. Go there at your own peril. So far a number of Americans were injured fighting on the Ukrainian side, yet the heaven hasn't fallen.

I thought I was the only one that noticed that. The Ukranians reoccupied areas left by the Russians up north and it was on replay for WEEKS.

MOKBA happened, WEEKLY replay

Then the failed crossing on the Donets river, and same replay for WEEKS.

Finally Kharkiv withdrawal happened, and guess what? That's right, WEEKLY replay and twists as a Ukrainian win.

As all these happened, the Russians were busy capturing more and more territories.

This is the main temptation. Russia must avoid Kyiv at all cost because once one fatality is recorded in the US embassy as a result of Russian invasion could lead to US retaliating and of course directly getting involved.

This one na temptation

The Russians struck Lviv when every western embassies, American inclusive, moved there. You think the Russian's give a rat's Behind if they strike Kyiv with the Americans there? Nope, I don't think so.

Bros, you have the wrong attitude. A few advices:

1. We all run different races. We all won't be successful at the same time. That yours is taking a bit longer doesn't mean that it won't come. Just continue to work hard and smart, and trust in God. Your time will DEFINITELY come.

2. Change your poor attitude. Celebrate with others when they succeed, no matter how young (as long as it is legitimate). One day you will also be celebrated.

Your time will come.

Besides, what about Belarussian and Chechnya fighters who started the war with Russia? Those are foreign forces too attacking Ukraine alongside Russia so two or three american volunteers on the defenders side isn't a bad idea.

Chechnya is a part of Russia. The Belorussian military have not partaken directly in Russia's ops.

This so called special operation was never to take Donbass. I say this because they have destabilized since 2014 and have been there since then. Putin wanted to overthrow Zelensky in Kiev and control the whole country. He wanted to de-militarize Ukraine and install his puppet as CinC. He failed woefully in the capture of Kiev. Part of the strategic plan was also to take over the second largest city, Kharkiv and he failed again because he under estimated the resilience of the Ukrainian people. He also never thought Ukraine will get the massive support from the world they are gettijg now.

Please lets stop saying Kiev and Kharkiv are not strategically important, If they werent, why commit so much resources trying to capture them and encountering so much losses? Let the truth be said, in 2014, the world allowed him get away with a lot and he thought it will be business a usual. But he miscalculated this time.

If you have been to Russia, you will understand propaganda is their watchword. They are not as strong as they make the rest of the world believe they are. Give your people better food and job first before you start competing with world powers. How much is the basic salary of an average Russian before sanctions were leveled on them. What will be the situation now that they have loadz of sanctions already loaded? Economically, how many products have you seen tagged made in Russia, lets be honest?

I wonder what Russia will do now that Finland has activated NATO membership and it looks like it will be fast-tracked? Will they invade Finland? We all know the answer to that question. They cant because they simply dont have the resources. Russia is bugged down in small Ukraine and we are talking of Finland and Sweden.

Finally my take is, Russia is not as strong as they made the world to believe they are, however even if they are, when a whole community decides to face you, it difficult to come out victorious.

My answer to the highlighted points you've made:

(1)Donbass was an objective. As a matter of fact it was Russia's very first objective as one of Putin's first announcement at the start of the conflict was the movement of troops into the Donbass. The push beyond the initial line of conflict to the Donbass's administrative lines of control was and still is the objective.

(2)The take over of the whole of Ukraine was NEVER the objective. We're talking about one of the largest land masses in Europe and you think the Russians can take that with only 200,000 troops committed to the ops? Even the RuAF air power was somewhat absent at the start of the offence.

(3)The overthrow of Zelensky was indeed an objective and Putin even called for the overthrow of Zelensky and his administration. Here's the thing though: objectives may change. And that's what played out in the 2nd-3rd week of the conflict when Zelensky publicly admitted that Ukraine joining NATO may no longer be feasible and the Russians responding in kind that the overthrow of Zelensky was no longer in the books.

(4) As a result of point (3) taking Kyiv would've made absolutely no sense. Yes the Russians were mauled up north, and yes they could not fully encircle Kyiv. BUUUUUT the withdrawal of the Russians from Kyiv had absolutely nothing to do with some "successful" Ukrainian counter-attack, but rather an announced decision by the Russians to pull back in good faith towards the peace talks brokered by the Turks in Turkey, and Russia's decision to focus on the Donbass region. Besides trying to capture the capital city with only a force of 50,000 men?? Bros, that's not possible.

(5) Demilitarization of Ukraine is still an objective and that was somewhat achieved. However the inflow of donated weapons may negate that.

(6)I don't really see Finland's NATO membership change anything. Yes, Russia will probably move troops and nukes to their north west border, but frankly I see absolutely nothing else happening. The Russians won't open a 2nd front and give the Ukranians breathing space.

Child of foolishness, perdition and falsehood let me give you breaking news grin

Russian forces have abandoned the objective of completing a large-scale encirclement of Ukrainian units from Donetsk City to Izium in favor of completing the seizure of Luhansk Oblast cheesy

Ukrainian forces have successfully crossed the Donesk river cheesy

Russian forces have likely run out of combat-ready reservists (still the lack of reinforcement issue)

Something will happen in Izium today and I will break the news here on nairaland...

Watch out for that thread cheesy

Your torment is about to become pro max grin

Oga, STOP POSTING MAPS IF YOU CANNOT READ THEM. Haba! Russia has abandoned Dontesk to Izyum?? WTF?? First of all Izyum is even the major Russian hammer coming down from the North. Also, the Russians have not abandoned anything in the Donbass front. They've CERTAINLY not abandoned the ops in Donetsk. They've simply created a smaller and more realistic cauldron aimed at trapping some of the most experienced Ukrainian units in if they still choose their suicidal "hold your ground" tactics. If you bothered to even read my previous posts, you would've have seen where I posted that the Russians have reached the administrative line of Luhansk and are swinging up north towards Kramatorsk. At this point your prayer should be that Ukrainian forces in the cauldron beat a hasty tactical retreat westwards before they're trapped and some of them are already begging for this online.

Finally, STOP LYING about the Ukrainians crossing the Donets river. I just said the Russians blew up their pontoon crossing late last week, yet you're yapping about Ukrainian "successful crossing"? That's if you're referring to dead floating bodies.

Oh I'm very aware of the failed Russian crossing. Even the Russians admitted their failed crossing. But before you jubilate as western media put that incident on repeat all week long (as usual), you may have overlooked a few things:

(1) Elements from the BTG involved survived. Losses were heavy though.

(2) The Russians were still able to cross THREE [3] BTGs across SAME Donets river.

They are coming for Donbas. They already stopped 2 Russian offensives from SW AND SE donbas. The recapture of Donbas is inevitable

They've already tried last week by equally trying to cross the Donetsk river. They were badly beaten back will the Ukrainian pontoon bridge destroyed. Until they're able to cross that natural barrier and threaten the supply line that runs from Belgorod through Izyum, I will not hold my breath. Keep in mind that there's a Russian force still in front of them in same Kharkiv Oblast AND across the border in Belgorod.

One question: if Kharkiv wasn’t important, why did the Russian army leave the last location to attack it?

What last location? What I know is that at the start of the conflict, Russia actually pushed into Kharkiv city but were beaten back as they faced stiff resistance. Ever since then they've basically been shelling the city. In the 2nd Phase, they've not made any push into the city and they CLEARLY stated that liberating Donbass was the objective. Kharkiv city is not. Even at that, the Russians are still in the Kharkiv Oblast.

when they are pursued out of Ukraine, You will still come and tell us that they made a tactical and orderly withdrawal from Ukraine, you will tell us that they have decided to go home because the special operation is over.

When the Ukrainians are able to carry out a proper mechanized counter-attack and actually push the Russians away from the Donbass region back to the border, then we'll talk. Until then no sensible person will consider Ukraine merely reoccupying areas already left by the Russians, who've carried out an orderly retreat to better defensible areas, a "successful counter-attack". That's unless you want to spin propaganda to make the Ukrainians and yourselves feel good.

Every time the Russian Army retreats from the failed takeover of a Ukrainian city, you guys try to convince us that the city was considered strategically unimportant. We know better, starting with Kiev. Which strategy includes retreating from the capital without leaving soldiers to occupy the entire city? Which Army would waste time and resources attacking cities that are ‘strategically unimportant’?
You know better, just like we know better.

I'm no military expert, but 'ever heard of a feign/distraction or tieing up an opponent's resource? Apart from that, if Kharkiv was strategically important, why won't the Russians push in more Battalion Tactical Groups (BTGs) to take the city of 2 million? Belgorod is just across the border after all. What you fail to understand is that:

(1)The objective is primarily the Donbass, not Kharkiv city.

(2)Invading/Trying to take over a large city, especially one of 2 MILLION, simply sucks up a whole lot of manpower and resource from the attacker to seize and hold as it as favours the defenders. A key example is Mariupol. The Russians can't afford that distraction, especially when they're effecting a number of pushes at the Donbass front.

(3) Believe it or not, the Russians have learnt lessons from the 1st phase of the war and are not eager to repeat past mistakes.
