Hajia Maimuna is a caring mother, a good wife, an excellent entrepreneur, and a Gold merchant. On the 5th of August few years ago while travelling to Abuja Nigeria’s capital city, the vehicle she was travelling in was Blocked by dare devil armed robbers disguised as military men who stripped her of all she had; money, gold and precious ornaments. This hard working lady was bruised, battered, raped and dumped by the road side to die. When Pricillia, a newly recruited banker boarded a tricycle at the close of work, little did she know that the events that would unfold over the next four hours would change her life forever. It was about 7:35 pm when she left the bank after a long day of debiting and crediting accounts, hopping into the next available tricycle. Mid way into the ride, other passengers alighted at different bus stops leaving Pricillia and the driver. The decisive moment came when the driver on the excuse of avoiding the usually heavy traffic along Douglas road in Owerri, South East Nigeria, took a detour and ended in an obscure location where he raped Pricilla at gun point, took her mobile phones and disappeared into thick darkness. Few weeks later Pricillia was at the Federal Medical Center Owerri to complain of the side effects of the drugs she was given as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV. That was when the unimaginable happened. As Pricillia walked away from the pharmacy, she saw a man having a striking resemblance with the fellow who raped her; he was dropping some relatives who had come to see a patient at the hospital. As she moved closer, she could not believe her eyes; she was standing face to face with the man who took her most priced asset in a cruel and dehumanizing manner. Convinced that she had the right man, she grabbed his shirt and alerted passersby who gathered within minutes. As Pricillia narrated her ordeal the man denied the accusation insisting he had nothing to do with her predicament and should be excused, that was when she made a statement that stunned the crowed. She said, “the man who raped me has a big scar on his thigh, so if you show these people your thighs and there is no scar I will apologize and let you go” At this point, a larger crowd had gathered but the driver was not willing to pull down his trousers in full glare of the public, until a policeman showed up. When he pulled down his trousers, a loud noise erupted as the crowd descended on the man beating him up mercilessly. The hidden scar had exposed him as the man who raped an innocent lady on her way back from the office. Many disciplined and hard working women have innocently fallen prey to the activities of these hoodlums whose appetite for hard drugs and rape of innocent girls and women have continued to defy solutions. Raped at age nine by a relative and pregnant at 14 Oprah Winfrey, like many others have experienced the wickedness and brutality of our society. Sadly, it’s an environment where blood lines no longer hold. Increasingly, the girl child is becoming an endangered specie as pedophiles’ continue to roam free in our societies terrorizing the lives of our children and stripping them of all the joy and excitement that comes with childhood. From New Delhi to New York, from Durban to Rio; women and girls are been hunted down by rapists, abused by pedophiles and emotionally decapitated by a society that is becoming increasingly hostile to the womenfolk. Junior was thirteen years old, when he had his first sexual intercourse with a neighbor’s daughter Mary, who was 4 years older. From then onwards Junior never looked back as he jumped from one girl to another. Despite becoming sexually active as a Junior Secondary School II student, Junior’s academic brilliance was a source of great joy to his parents, his performance at Senior Secondary school Certificate Examination (SSCE), was the best in recent times and as the only child of his parents, he received every encouragement and got admitted into the Law Faculty of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, South-west Nigeria. Even as a freshman he continued to maintain his status as Play boy 001, the ultimate chick magnet and the boy every freshman and sophomore wanted to be like. It was a strong belief by most guys on campus that Junior had a “God-given” charm which made him irresistible to any girl regardless of her class. He graduated from University with good grades and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School. He did very well at law school and then proceeded for the mandatory one year National Youth Service—all these while junior’s lucky streak with the ladies continued. However, two weeks to his passing out Parade and subsequent move to England for post graduate studies, nemesis came knockingat the door. Junior became ill and was hospitalized for seven days. He could neither eat nor drink and everyone was terrified at the alarming rate at which he lost weight. At the hospital, the doctor asked to see Junior’s relatives, by this time Junior’s parents had arrived having been informed earlier of his worsening health condition by the corper’s liaison officer (CLO). After spending some time at his bed side, His parents were ushered into the doctor’s office. In the office, the doctor’s major problem was not Junior but his mother who was crying profusely not believing what her eyes had seen, and lamenting the fate that could befall her only child, yet the doctor was about to reveal the mystery behind her son’s ill health. While similar events have become a characteristic of our generation no one seems to be noticing. Universities and College hostels have been transformed to be mini brothels while “roaming” after school is fast becoming a tradition among secondary or high school students. For peanuts young men are willing to sacrifice their lives on the altar of pleasure, taking on women old enough to be their mothers. The “Play Boy” syndrome has come to be accepted in most communities as a way of life. While the boys see it as the height of their romantic illusion, the girls are happy to jump at any offer from the ladies man not minding the consequences. The fact that a play boy and his lieutenants could become victims of HIV/AIDS and STIs, be assaulted by an estranged lover or lose future ability to differentiate between true love and infatuation seem not to be a source of worry, neither does unwanted pregnancy, child birth or abortion which could stop education and eventually lead to a low self esteem appear to deter many. As the world confronts the challenges of globalisation, the entertainment Industry and a web saturated with explicit sexual content, is increasingly making it difficult for young people to make informed decisions about sex, the media simply encourage young lads to make potentially dangerous decisions completely denying them of the right to know the consequences of those actions. As T.D Jakes rightly puts it “life will always require us to take risks but we must discern which risk is worth taking and which will short circuit our long term goals for short term pleasure”. It is important to note that while the expression of one’s sexuality is a normal component of living, control over this natural phenomenon is however an individual decision. This is where Sex Education comes in. But are parents ready to take on the taboo subject? Media adviser to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu has expressed sadness over the manner, In which Nigerians on twitter have been criticising the administration of General Buhari. Shehu who took to twitter few minutes ago expressed frustration with the manner of the criticisms which he described as destructive. The criticism here sometimes could be very destructive & harsh while a few others are rather constructive enough to keep us on our toes" he said. The also informed his followers of his new instagram account. Instagram is a Social media networking site primarily for pictures and Videos. Ironically Nigerians have of late been complaining of the never ending photograph sessions which has been the preoccupation of the Buhari administration which has painfully failed to live of to the high expectations Nigerians had expected. Considering the fact that he and the APC promised to hit the ground running. www.twitter.com/ochejoseph

There was a mild drama when a large number of women yesterday besieged a bank in Funtua, Katsina State to demand payment of N5,000 social security for the poor and unemployed Nigerians that was promised by the All Progressives Party (APC). The women, who started trooping to the bank’s premises as early as 7:00am, alleged that they heard an announcement over the radio that the federal government had concluded plans to pay the money. One of the women said she was told that processes of the payment had commenced in the bank, Daily Trust reported. One of the women who simply gave her name as Sa’adiyya, said: “A friend of mine informed me about the development last week. She said I should come here with my national identity card. She said when I come I will be given a form to fill.” When contacted, branch manager of the bank, who sought anonymity, said he was not aware of such payment. He added that the bank was not carrying out any registration exercise aside the Bank Verification Number (BVN) as mandated by CBN. “We are not holding any registration regarding the N5,000 social security as they claimed and I think they mistook the BVN forms we are distributing to our customers as forms for the money. There is no basis for their claims; the women are only working on rumours,” the branch manager said. Daily Trust saw the bank officials and policemen trying to persuade the teaming women to leave the bank premises and stop obstructing banking activities. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had in the last two weeks at the 10th year anniversary lecture of Crescent University Abeokuta hinted that there were ongoing plans to implement one of their campaign promises of paying N5,000 each to the poorest Nigerians across the http://expressng.com/2015/06/n5000-for-the-poor-katsina-women-storm-bank-for-to-demand-apc-social-security-pledge/ |

FACTIONS WITHIN THE APC AND THEIR LOYALTIES The crisis within the APC is not about to end any time soon as the party chairman will want us to believe as new factions within the party continue to emerge on a daily basis. It appears that members of the All Progressive Congress , decapitated all their energies fighting President Jonathan and other imaginary enemies that they are constantly finding it difficult to put their acts together and deliver on their numerous campaign promises to Nigerians . Information reaching TMS have confirmed that the president has agreed in principle to offeset the backlog of salaries owed civil servants by the various state government . The initial plan to retrict the bail out to APC controlled states was said to have been rejected by the president on the grounds that the opposition PDP might capitalise on it to divide the nation, as such a meeting of all state governors is scheduled to hold tomorrow at the presidential villa where the final agreement will be reached on how the monies will be sourced and the repayment terms. http://tsuntsumediaservices..com/2015/06/buhari-agrees-in-principle-to-help-pay.html

Why I Delayed the Appointment of Ministers - Buhari (1984) By CLIFFORD D. MAY Published: January 19, 1984 LAGOS, Nigeria, Jan. 18— Nigeria's new leader, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Buhari, swore in the members of his Cabinet today, warning them that the ruling Supreme Military Council ''will keep a keen and watchful eye on your performance, your style of life and general public conduct while in office.'' He said the new administration, which came to power after the overthrow of the civilian Government of President Shehu Shagari on Dec. 31, ''will not tolerate fraud, indiscipline, corruption, squandermania, misuse and abuse of public office for self or group aggrandizement and other vices which characterize the civilian administration of the past four years.'' Of the 18 ministers named, only 7 are career military men. The proportion surprised some Western diplomats here but essentially accorded with statements by Mr. Buhari in an interview on Tuesday in which he said ''only a small number'' of military officers would be named to top political posts. Apparently responding to criticism in the Nigerian press over the pace of decision-making under the new military regime, Mr. Buhari said that ''the appointment of ministers has taken us some time because we had to undertake a deep search for competent Nigerians of proven integrity, a high sense of discipline, public probity and transparent honesty.'' According to some Nigerian and Western sources, several candidates for portfolios were reluctant to accept appointment until the stability and direction of the new Government became apparent. A senior Western diplomatic source said most of the ministers named today ''are not particularly well known.'' Other sources added that they perceived no particular ideological bent among them. A diplomat said many appeared to be ''lesser lights with provincial rather than federal experience.'' Named to the key position of Minister of Finance was Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, who said that he had most recently been teaching industrial sociology at the University of Ibadan and that he had served in an earlier military government as a commissioner of industries and in the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Soleye declined to comment on substantive policy matters, saying he had not had time to study the situation. The new Minister of Petroleum and Energy is Prof. Tam David-West, a biologist by training and a former commissioner of education in Rivers State. Asked about his prior experience in the oil industry, he said he was ''well versed in the issues.'' He, too, declined to discuss policies or plans. A leading Nigerian businessman who has known Professor David-West said: ''He was probably picked because he is tough and something of a disciplinarian. A headmaster type, not easy to get along with.'' The new Minister of External Affairs is Dr. Ibrahim Gambari, who served most recently as director general of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, having been appointed by former President Shagari. Dr. Gambari, the 40-year-old son of an emir, received a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University in New York in 1974. The swearing-in ceremony took place in a wood-paneled conference room in a military compound in the Lagos suburb of Ikoyi. Each appointee read an ''oath of allegiance'' followed by an ''oath of office.'' A section of the oath of office pledged that ''I will not allow my personal interests to influence my official conduct or my official decisions.'' Addressing the ministers after the ceremony, General Buhari said each would be expected to declare his assets within six weeks and to complete by the end of April a ''critical review'' of all projects and programs under way within their ministries. He said the new administration must ''curb the monstrous effects of a grossly mismanaged economy, galloping inflation and insure that food and other essential commodities are readily available at the easy reach of the ordinary citizen. http://www.nytimes.com/1984/01/19/world/cabinet-in-nigeria-installed-with-a-warning.html?smid=tw-share
