GEJ''s Spin-Doctors are at it again. They want people to only see officially sanctioned news items coming out from Aso-Rock. I know that given the number of private stations we have in the country, it might not be feasible for they all to have access to Aso-Rock. I believe we can borrow ideas from the Americans on this issue; for instance there are three major networks in the US: ABC, CBS and NBC and these networks are given priority in national broadcasts of events. The Nigerian government can designate six outstanding television stations, apart from NTA, from the six geo-political zones of the country as major networks which can have access to Aso-Rock at all times for effective dissemination of information on government activities to all the geo-political zones.  |

The government is putting the cart before the horse, once again  The ideal thing would have been for the government to supply everyone with pre-paid meter first, so that you know how much you pay for actual electricity consumed on a monthly basis, so that by the time the new tariff is implemented,you could calculate, based on per kilowatt hour, how much you electricity bill will increase. I am making the above suggestion because of my own peculiar case. I am charged about N5,000 per month, by PHCN estimation, for electricity I do not actually consume, while a friend with a similar rate of electricity consumption as mine, but has a pre-paid meter actually pays about N1,500 per month  With the propsed increment, my electricity bill will likely go up to about N7,500 per month, while the friend with a pre-paid meter might just be paying N2,500 PER Month, this is nothing, but daylight robbery I hope Labour stands its ground and insist that pre-paid meters should be installed for all electricity consumers first, before any increase per kilo-watt hour of electricity cost is implemented. |

This is a fall-out of bad leadership. If things were being properly done in Nigeria, then we shall not have Nigerians flocking in large numbers to Israel, wetin dey that desert country  The Government should make plans to repatriate Nigerians in Israel back to the country because, as the economic situation worsens over there, we shall see more of such attacks on blacks not only in Israel, but in Europe and some other Asian Countries. crowaddy: That would be good for you but you should realise that some folks will start going around looking for some unpatriotic persons to sabotage and reduce the N7,000 per month to N500 thereby reducing the ability of the generating company to raise enough funds to cover its costs which then leads to the vicious cycle that we are in at the moment@crowaddy, you are right that some bad elements will try to sabotage the effort of PHCN through tampering with their equipment to ensure they are under-billed and PHCN loses its revenue. However with technology, the activities of such unscrupulous people can be checked. For example, the introduction of the Pre-paid Meter will ensure that a consumer will pay for any electricity he consumes, unlike now where consumers use electricity and pay later with many of them, especially government establishments refusing to pay outrightly !!! PHCN could come up with a Technology in the meters, so that if you illegally try to reduce the amount for which you pay for consuming electricity by tampering with the meter, you will be unable to do so because you need a special code to be able to do this. I think this is very possible. For those who do illegal connection from high-tension PHCN wires to their house, bypasssing the use of an Electric Meter, I think PHCN should have the technology from their offices to view houses that are rightfully connected to their high-tension wires and those that are not. I have often wondered why PHCN cannot have an electronic board in their offices that will indicate to them houses without electric supply, as they are not usually aware until you report to them. 8 |

I spend an average of N1,500 per day fuelling my Generator sets, two actually, but one is bad right now. This translates to N10,500 per week; N42,000 per month and N504,000 per year which could have invested in any small-scale industry The above computation shows where most of the savings of the average Nigerian family goes and accounts for the low level of investment in Nigeria. This is because savings equals investments S=I. If public electricity supply is constant and PHCN is billing me about N7,000 per month, then my annual electricity bill would have been N84,000, which would have left me with N420,000 to invest (N504,000 MINUS N84,000). So, what are you, Sambo, and your Boss doing to solve this problem of lack of constant electricity supply, at least in order to sustain the legacy Yar' Adua dreamed of leaving for the Nation? In no other way has the current Administration dispalyed its inept attitude than in the area of power supply, oh and security. The Obasanjo Administration is remembered for the revolution it introduced in the Telecom Sector. Will this Government be remembered as the one that finally laid PHCN to rest and with it our hopes for constant and reliable electricity supply? Right now little children are developing boils all over their bodies, while Adults have invasive heat-rashes all over them coupled with the inability to sleep at night, companies are folding and relocating to other countries all due to the lack of electricity supply. When will Sambo and his boss wake up and take the bull of power outage by the horns and restore constant electricity supply? |

However, Chelsea are up against a team made up of battle-hardened players who have competed regularly in the UEFA Champions League series for many successive years now and have always got to the Semi-Finals of the championship on previous occassions. Though the current Government is yet to take Nigeria to the promised land; Buhari should recognise that its time for a generational change in Leadership. In the US,Britain and some other countries, their leaders are in their 40s'. We expect men like Buhari to act as Elder Statemen to the younger politicians who will contest elections in year 2015 (Buhari will be about 73 years old then !!!), not call for the bloodshed of innocent Nigerians over allegedly rigged elections. Also, we need dynamic and creative minded individuals in elected offices in year 2015, who will bring to bear their cerebral abilities and drive (ability to get things done) to solve the problems plaguing our beloved country and not a physically weak Septugenerian politician who might not have much to offer, other than call for reduction in cost of governance,a good objective, but which might not have the much desired impact in the lives of Nigerians. |

I have often thought that there must be a way to re-cycle water in the kainji dam when the water level is low because, its this same excuse we have always heard from PHCN as far back as when I was about 7 years old, now almost three decades later, the same untenable excuse is still being given. Just imagine the kind of retrogressive and non-proactive officials we have always had and still have in PHCN and Government Even for the distribution of Power, our PHCN Engineers should know that we ought to have about 3 national grid system of electricity distribution, so that when one line fails, then the power from that line can be re-routed to the other grids, so that the whole nation is not thrown into darkness as happened about two weeks ago, when a major transmission line failed at Benin City. When there was power outage in Canada and New York city in year 2005 because of the failure of a major transmission line, the consumers on the failed line were transfered to another transmission line within 2 days. |

This is because anything (Death, greed, fraud) can happen tomorrow that will throw the nature of business arrangement or transactions into dispute which can be easily resolved through the presence of legal documents pertaining to such issues. 1 Like |

You will find out that many of the people who are members of the church are uneducated and superstitious people, thats why your neighbour was labbeled a ritualist by them , and so are not aware of the dangers of noise pollution. Those of them who are educated are also ignorant of this.The Anambra State government Environmental protection Agency should put a stop to the noisy activities of such churches as their Lagos counterpart (LASEPA) are already doing. |

Its possible that the woman is suffering from Post-partum Depression (PPD). Women who suffer from this after delivery of babies have been known to kill their new born children, themselves or attempt to attack those close to them, that is why such women need constant psychological evaluation so that they do not harm themselves or others. |

What is really happening to our women folks On Thursday, a couple had a fight at Festac Town and the woman ended up using an object to beat the husband and the man slumped and died too. As at Satuday, 18th February, the woman was being held at the Festac Town Police Station. I have said it, that Nigerians need to know the state of their mental health. Its a pity that Shrinks are not popular over here as in advanced countries, imagine killing your husband with a pestle and proceeding to stab him many times |

If Buhari is not a permanent resident of Abuja, then he does not need such an expensive house. He could rent a palatial apartment, though I am not aware if such exists in Nigeria; I heard Billionaires like Bill Gates, usually rent well-heeled apartments whenever he is on tour in the US and not Hotel Rooms for Privacy purposes. I laud Buhari's move on the house at Abuja because it really pays to keep one's financial expenses short and simple (KISS- keep it short and simple). Also the complex atom always seeks to dis-integrate. By having just the houses he can maintain, he, Buhari, will ensure that his finances does not dis-integrate totally because he wants to keep up with the joneses who have houses in Abuja. |

Have you all not heard about waste recycling In this era of intense protection of the environment, all wastes must be properly recycled so that they become of value to the society at large.The recycling of old politicians through Ambassadorial appointments is meant to pave way for new and promising political acolytes to rise through the grassroot and represent their people at the national level; this will not be possible if they, the recycled politicians, are left to continually ferment chaos and discord at that level. However, giving such recycled politicians appointments as Ambassardors of our country could be a doubled-edged sword, as some of them may choose to carry on their dubious activities as Ambassadors and end up tarnishing the image of the country further.  |

| You remind me of the time I and a friend decided to go without food because we were misinformed that prisoners were not usually fed when they are serving their prison terms. We were both about 9 years then. When my mom prepared breakfast and asked me to eat, I replied that I was not hungery; at lunch time too, I also said I was not hungery. My Mom asked if I was okay and I replied that I was fine and she looked at me with so much concern because, back then, during the holidays, when we had just had breakfast, we shall thank our mom and proceed in the same breath to ask what's for lunch; we were that much in love with food !!! Anyway, around 5pm of that day, I was so hungery, that I rushed into the kitchen to munch on some snacks !!! I learnt my friend did not make it beyond 12 noon. When we met again the following day, we wondered to ourselves how we shall ever survive if we were imprisoned. The above incident is the reason why I try to anwer all questions thrown at me by the little children around me, because if we were encouraged to speak our minds back then, we could have easily ascertained from the Adults around if its true that prisoners were not usually fed while serving their sentences. @Poster, I have been without food for about a day, although, I was taking a lot of water . 1 Like |

I guess its time for us to use our God given intellect to modernise our farming and husbandary methods. The Fulani nomads have been moving their cattles all over the country for centuries, but in this day and age, I will say that the nomadic way of life is seriously outdated and calls for serious review to avoid conflicts with Farmers in the middle-belt and Southern part of the country, whose farmlands are usually destroyed by their grazing cattles. I suggest that the cattle owners should buy large expanse of lands in the North, with perimeter fencing, so that their cattles are kept within them. The cattle owners can create a supply for dry hay (dry grass) from the middlebelt and the southern part of the country by encouraging southerns and middlebelters to harvest such hay on their behalf'; so that they can use the hay to feed their cattles. This in the long run will be cheaper for the cattle owners and prevent conflict, like this one that happened at Ughelli from recurring ever so often. In the short run, farmers in the middle belt and the south can run perimeter fences over their farmlands to keep these roving nomads and their cattles out of their farmlands, though, it might be a bit costly, but if they buy these fencing materials in bulk through their cooperatives, the price will be greatly reduced. |
