Champions League final: Liverpool stars wear brain sensors in training for R/Madrid’s downfall LIVERPOOL’S stars are gearing up for the Champions League final by having ELECTRODES fitted to their heads. The Reds can complete a cup treble on Saturday if they beat Real Madrid in Paris. And Jurgen Klopp is hoping to outthink Carlo Ancelotti by using the latest cutting edge technology. But the brains behind Liverpool’s Champions League plan come courtesy of German neuroscientist Dr Niklas Hausler and his business partner Patrick Hantschke. As revealed by The Athletic last year, Liverpool have employed the co-founders of company neuro11 in order to improve their stars by helping them reach their optimum mental state. The technology is specially designed to train the brain directly. As a result those using the technology are in the optimum mental condition necessary to perform to the highest level. Ahead of this Saturday’s mouthwatering clash in Paris, full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas were spotted sporting the tech. Electrodes were attached to them in order to gather data that can be used to individually tailor their training programmes. The neuro11 website describes themselves as “state-of-the-art mental strength training for athletes.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/champions-league-final-liverpool-stars-wear-brain-sensors-in-training-for-r-madrids-downfall/ |
APC Postpones Presidential Primary To June 6 The All Progressives Congress has postponed its special convention for presidential primary for the 2023 general elections from May 29 to June 6. National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, announced this in a statement hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission extended the deadline for party’s to conduct their primaries. The short statement read, “Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s extension of deadline for the submission of list of candidates by political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby postpones its Special Convention for Presidential Primary from Sunday, 29th-Monday, 30th of May, 2020, to Monday, 6th-Wednesday, 8th of June, 2022.” INEC announced the extension of the deadline for political parties to conduct their primaries by six days on Friday evening. The commission had initially announced a deadline of June 3 from the presidential primaries. The extension of the deadline covers the six-day period between June 4 and 9 The electoral umpire’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, announced this in a statement on Friday in Abuja. The decision followed a meeting between leaders of various political parties and the leadership of INEC led by the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, at the commission’s headquarters in the nation’s capital, Abuja. At the meeting, the politicians under the auspices of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) again appealed to INEC to adjust the timetable for the forthcoming polls. Chairman of IPAC, Sani Yabagi of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), explained that adjusting the timetable of the election became necessary because the current timetable was too tight for the political parties. According to Okoye, the request was for a 37 – 60 days extension of the timeline for primaries and the nomination of candidates. He said INEC was emphatic that such an extension could not be granted because it would disrupt other scheduled activities on the timetable. He explained that the parties then pleaded with the commission to use the six-day period between June 4 and 9 to conclude outstanding primaries and prepare to upload the list of candidates and their affidavits on the INEC Candidates Nomination Portal. “The commission has decided to allow the request of the political parties since the six-day period does not conflict with the next scheduled activity which is the submission of the list of nominated candidates or any of the subsequent timelines which remain sacrosanct,” he said. “However, this request is granted in respect of outstanding primaries only without prejudice to those already concluded by political parties. The commission will not monitor already concluded primaries.” https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.channelstv.com/2022/05/28/apc-postpones-presidential-primary-to-june-6/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjA2v7cxoH4AhXEjqQKHd__Ad0QFnoECAkQAg&usg=AOvVaw3M7r6V7ZFu6GPAaSFzjU59 |

EFCC told to arrest failed candidate asking delegates to refund their monies Ex-media aide to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest any failed candidate of any political party who is asking delegates to refund their monies after losing election ticket ahead of the 2023 general poll. Omokri made the plea in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Thursday afternoon. He said such acts are evidence of electoral fraud contrary to both the Electoral Act and the Money Laundering Act of 2011. He tweeted, “If the EFCC knows its job, then every failed candidate who is asking delegates to refund their monies, all parties, should be arrested. “That is prima facie evidence of electoral fraud and is contrary to both the Electoral Act and the Money Laundering Act of 2011. “If the EFCC won’t prosecute those established to have given monies to delegates in order to influence their votes, then I call on Nigerians to surreptitiously video them and for the @UKinNigeria, @USinNigeria and @EUinNigeria to note such people and deny them visas!” This is coming less than a few days after Adam Namadi, son of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, confirmed receiving a refund from delegates after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives ticket for Kaduna North Federal Constituency. Reports earlier emerged that drama ensued when Namadi, who allegedly gave each delegate N2 million and promised to add N1.5 million if given the ticket, asked the delegates to refund the money. https://dailypost.ng/2022/05/26/2023-elections-efcc-told-to-arrest-failed-candidate-asking-delegates-to-refund-their-monies/ |

NIGERIANS REACT AS BBNAIJA’S KA3NA JOINS PRESIDENTIAL RACE Former Big Brother Naija housemate Ka3na has announced her plans to run for president in the 2023 elections. Ka3na made her intention known through a post shared on her social media pages on Wednesday. She shared a campaign poster of herself with the caption “THE CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG ABUJA#Ka3naForPresident #PresidentOfNigeria #APC #LetYourVoteCount #PeacefulElection” However, it is unclear whether the reality tv star truly intends to run for office or is merely chasing clout. Declaring her intention to run for presidency under the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), it is important to recall that back in April, the party had announced that female aspirants for political offices would receive free nomination forms. Ka3na joins other celebrities, including Banky W, and Yul Edochie, who have declared their intentions to run for different offices in the 2023 general elections. Ka3na was one of the housemate’s on BBNaija’s Lockdown edition back in 2020 https://guardian.ng/life/nigerians-react-as-bbnaijas-ka3na-joins-presidential-race/ |

Alleged blasphemy, false alarms against Christian women who refuse sexual advances from men of other religions — CAN The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said that the cases of alleged blasphemy against Christian women in parts of the North were false alarms raised by unscrupulous men. According to CAN, the allegations had become ploys to blackmail or settle scores with passive enemies or well-mannered young girls who have refused sexual advances by the opposite sex from another religion in the North. The umbrella Christian body therefore called on government authorities and security agencies to act fast to address the ugly trend before it leads to a more serious conflict that cannot be handled. The Vice President of CAN, (19 Northern States and Abuja), Rev. Joseph John Hayab, stated these in Abuja in reaction to the violence that erupted in the Katangan area of Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State over an alleged blasphemy. The Bauchi incident came barely two weeks after the killing of a 200 Level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, Deborah Samuel by Muslim fundamentalists over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed. Trouble started in Bauchi following a social media post by a 40-year-old staff of the Medical Department Warji Local Government, Rhoda Jatau, which was considered as blasphemous to Islam. An unspecified number of people, including a pastor, sustained varying degrees of injury while many houses were burnt. He said, “Allegations of blasphemy have now become the new excuse by fundamentalists in Northern Nigeria to kill the remnant that bandits and terrorists have not yet killed. How can you justify the period of what happened in Sokoto, the allegation in Borno, the fake allegation on Babachir Lawal by one Northern actor who we have on record how he made blasphemous remarks about Jesus Christ but quickly went and brought it down on the internet to cover himself before coming out to falsely accused Babachir Lawal, the former SGF? And we are seeing another carnage in Bauchi under the excuse of blasphemy. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/alleged-blasphemy-false-alarms-against-christian-women-who-refuse-sexual-advances-from-men-of-other-religions-can/ |
7 days to APC primary: North queues behind Lawan, Tinubu’s men weigh ‘Plan B’ Seven days to the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there is palpable anxiety over the speculation that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may dump the ruling party at the federal level if the exercise, scheduled for May 29 and 30, is manipulated against him. Tinubu is one of the front runners in the contest for the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections. And not only is he a front runner, the former governor of Lagos State has support of many governors that cuts across his South-West geopolitical zone and stretches to other parts of the country for the party’s ticket. No fewer than 12 of the 23 APC governors are said to be working for his emergence as the next President of the country. But there are reports of powerful forces working against him especially from the North which has now produced some aspirants contrary to the expectation that, based on the power rotation understanding, the southern part of Nigeria should produce the President in 2023. The speculation that Tinubu may quit APC gained traction and, in fact, ruffled feathers in many political quarters, last week, after an unnamed associate hinted Vanguard that the former Lagos governor was considering moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to actualize his “lifelong ambition” of being Nigeria’s President if he was manipulated out of the 2023 race in the APC. According to the associate, the development was the reason a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, stated recently that Tinubu had Plan B if the APC primary is manipulated against him. Although, he noted that APC remains the primary platform Tinubu intends to actualize his dream of presiding over the affairs of the nation, options, including moving to the SDP, would be explored if the primary comes short of transparency and credibility. “It is too early to ask if Asiwaju would leave the APC for another party. He is a big factor in APC, a party he helped to form, financed and nurtured into what it is today”, the associate told Vanguard. “We are not unaware of recent developments and attempts to insult a man who has paid his dues in the political evolution of this country. “But that is not important for now. What I can tell you is that our leader, like other contestants, is looking forward to a credible process that would lead to the emergence of our flag bearer. “But if that process is compromised, I can tell you for free that we will encourage him to explore other options. “Yes, a lot has been said about SDP and Asiwaju. When we get to that bridge, we will cross it. “SDP offered him a platform to become a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria years ago but, for now, he is in APC and will remain there until circumstance dictates otherwise”. Meanwhile, the rumoured Plan B is generating anxiety among Tinubu’s associates. The Director General of Ondo State Network for Bola Tinubu, Tolu Babaleye, called the speculation a lie from the pit of hell, wondering how a landlord would abandon his house for tenants. “Asiwaju is APC and APC is Asiwaju. There is no truth in the rumour, it is the handiwork of fifth columnists” Babaleye told Sunday Vanguard at the weekend. On his part, the Director General of BATOC 23, Dr Ayo Owoade, said: “First, if we are sure that we will have a free and fair primary election devoid of manipulation, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the candidate to beat. No one can beat him in a fair contest. “However, if there is no fairness in the primary or some people eventually succeed to impose consensus on the party, as we know some people are seriously struggling to do, then Asiwaju has his options. “For us at BATOC 23, whatever Asiwaju decides is what we will support. We are not just with him, we believe in his ability and capacity to engineer a new Nigeria. “The party, we believe, will not want to embark on self-destruction by not allowing party members to exercise their right to decide a candidate. “We hope the party will listen to the voice of wisdom and allow the people’s will to prevail”. Also sharing his group’s perspective, the Director of Publicity and Strategy for the South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA), Olawale Sadare, said Tinubu remains in the party, expressing optimism that the former governor would get the presidential ticket of APC “due to his political experience and development strides across the country”. His words: “Tinubu has the brightest chances as a bridge builder and he is a detribalised person. “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the brightest chance to be the next President of Nigeria on account of who he is and what he represents. “He has demonstrated competence, courage and character over the years in the political space as far as Nigeria is concerned and it is not in doubt that he is the most talked about political player in the country today. “He is a man of ideas and he knows what to do as a leader to keep Nigeria one, stronger and prosperous, inspire us to end the current challenges which the country is facing. “He is a bridge builder and he is detribalised. President Tinubu would be for all regardless of religious, social and ethnic backgrounds. “There is no political party in the country today, including the PDP, that does not want to field Tinubu as its presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections and this is a statement of fact.” “If Tinubu is given the chance to rule from May 2023, he would gather the best hands from across the country to man the key sectors of government business just like he did in Lagos between 1999 and 2007. “He would make the best use of Nigeria’s enormous human and material resources to put country on the path of greatness. “He would act to douse all the tensions emanating from ethnic agitation, poor economy, insecurity etc. “President Tinubu would make Nigeria a toast of developed nations of the world and they would all develop the zeal to partner his government to the advantage of our dear country.” In his own contribution, a chieftain of SWAGA, Senator Tony Adeniyi, said, “I don’t want to talk about any plan at all because Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will win the APC presidential primary next week. “There is nothing to worry about, we are so confident about it because this man has worked for it, he deserves it and I believe the delegates across the nation will support him at the convention ground. “So, no need to panic or think about anything considering the work we have done and, going by the feedback we are getting from across the nation, Tinubu will win the primary.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/7-days-to-apc-primary-north-queues-behind-lawan-tinubus-men-weigh-plan-b/ |

Over 70% of Nigerians with Hypertension unaware — NHF • Says HBP is major heart disease affecting 38% of adult Nigerian THE Chairman of the Nigerian Heart Foundation, Prof. Basden Onwubere, has raised alarm over the low level of awareness of hypertension in Nigeria, stating that more than 70 percent of Nigerians who are living with High Blood Pressure, HBP, are unaware of it. Onwubere raised the alarm when NHF joined the rest of the world to mark 2022 World Hypertension Day with a theme, ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.’ He said that globally, more than one billion people are known to have Hypertension and the figure is estimated to increase to 1.5 billion by 2025. Onwubere said: “Of great concern is the fact that more than half of the individuals with Hypertension are unaware of it. In many of the low and middle income countries, less than 40 per cent are unaware. In some of these countries’ awareness levels are even less than 30 percent. “A nation-wide survey in Nigeria published about two decades ago by Akinkugbe et al showed awareness level for Hyper tension of 30 percent and recent publications have not shown any significant improvement in this regard, and in Nigeria more than 70 percent of those with Hypertension are unaware of it though the population in Nigeria has increased significantly over the last decade. “This low level of awareness has given it the name: “The Silent Killer”. Hypertension is also noted in that publication to be the most common non-communicable disease, NCD, in Nigeria. “It is a known cardiovascular risk factor with a significant number of global deaths attributable to its complications. Studies also show very poor control levels of HBP worse in the Low[1]and Middle-Income Countries. “Cardiovascular Disease (heart disease) is the commonest cause of death in the adult population in Nigeria and Hypertension is the number one heart disease affecting about 38 percent of the adult population. “In addition, Hypertension is the main risk for stroke, heart attack (coronary heart disease), chronic kidney disease, heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms and dementia. “This year’s WHD theme is Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer. The WHL has chosen this theme based on current statistics showing uncomfortably low awareness and poor control of HBP especially in the Low and Middle-Income Countries.” He charged relevant governmental agencies in the health sector to ensure adequate prevention of avoid[1]able deaths and morbidity in the country. According to him, “a crucial first step for control of hypertension and achievement of the WHO Target 2025 for a 25 percent reduction in uncontrolled hyper[1]tension is to improve hypertension diagnosis and strategies have been put in place to encourage BP screening and awareness programmes in communities, and this Target has been adopted in the latest review of the Federal Ministry of Health Multi-Sectoral Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non Communicable Diseases 2022-2025. “To maintain adequate control of hypertension, it is advisable to maintain the following lifestyles: reduce salt consumption and maintain a policy of ‘no added salt’ after food has been pre[1]pared with appropriate quantities of salt. Choose a healthy diet which includes vegetables and fruits. Do not smoke. Smoking has no known benefits. Limit alcohol consumption. Your Healthcare managers will advise you on this. Maintain healthy weight. Avoid sedentary lifestyles. Exercise at least 30 minutes daily,” Onwubere advised. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/over-70-of-nigerians-with-hypertension-unaware-nhf/ |

Russia: Poland promises to assist Sweden, Finland if attacked before NATO membership Russia: Poland promises to assist Sweden, Finland if attacked before NATO membership Poland will assist Sweden and Finland, should they be attacked before obtaining membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday. “I consider the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO as an important signal of strengthening security in Europe. “I want to make it clear that in the event of an attack on Sweden or Finland during their accession (process), Poland will come to their aid,” he said during a conference. Putin bows, signals acceptance of Finland, Sweden joining NATO Le Pen, France’s presidential candidate angered by protest over ties to Putin Russia warns Sweden, Finland against Nato membership Finland and Sweden formally applied to join the NATO alliance on Wednesday, a decision spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and setting in motion an accession process that is expected to take only a few weeks. Neutral throughout the Cold War, Sweden’s and Finland’s decision to join NATO is one of the most significant changes in Europe’s security architecture in decades, not least because Finland shares a 1,300-km (810-mile) border with Russia. It also reflects a shift in public opinion in the Nordic region since Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine. “This is a historic moment which we must seize,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said at a short ceremony at NATO headquarters in which the Swedish and Finnish ambassadors to the alliance handed over their application letters, each in a white folder embossed with their national flag. “I warmly welcome requests by Finland and Sweden to join NATO. You are our closest partners, and your membership in NATO will increase our shared security,” Stoltenberg said. The alliance believes the accession of Finland and Sweden will hugely strengthen it in the Baltic Sea. With the applications formally submitted, the Nordic countries and their many backers now face uncertain months where any resistance to their bids must be overcome, with all 30 of NATO’s members needing to approve the enlargement. Ratification by all allied parliaments could take up to a year, diplomats say. Turkey has voiced reservations, saying the two countries harbour individuals linked to groups it deems terrorists and hitting out at arms export embargoes imposed on it after its Syria incursion in 2019. Turkish state broadcaster TRT Haber reported this week that Sweden and Finland had not granted approval for the repatriation of 33 people that Turkey requested and President Tayyip Erdogan doubled down on criticism on Wednesday. “NATO expansion is only meaningful for us in proportion to the respect that will be shown to our sensitivities,” he said in a speech to lawmakers from his ruling AK party. “So you won’t give us back terrorists but you ask us for NATO membership? NATO is an entity for security, an organisation for security. “Therefore, we cannot say ‘yes’ to this security organisation being deprived of security.” (NAN) https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/russia-poland-promises-to-assist-sweden-finland-if-attacked-before-nato-membership/ |

Apple has announced it is discontinuing its music player, the iPod Touch, bringing to an end a device widely praised for revolutionising how people listen to music. When the first iPod was launched in 2001, it could store 1,000 tracks. Today there are more than 90 million songs on Apple's streaming service. The iPod Touch was designed by the same team that later invented the iPhone, which quickly overshadowed the iPod. Apple last updated the iPod in 2019. There have been various iPod models over the years - including the Nano and Shuffle - but the iPod Touch, which was released in 2007 is the last model to be discontinued. Apple says it will remain available to buy "while stocks last". The gadget had "redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared", Greg Joswiak, the senior vice-president of worldwide marketing at Apple said. iPod fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the news and their memories connected with the music devices. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. View original tweet on Twitter Short presentational transparent line There had been rumours the company was going to announce a new music player after the invitation for the launch event read: "Hint: It's not a Mac." "Music's a part of everyone's life. Music's been around forever. It will always be around," Jobs said during his hour long presentation. The big headline for the night was simple: "1,000 songs in your pocket." Over the years, many celebrities have thrown their star power behind the iPod, including John Mayer, U2 and Oprah Winfrey. BMW introduced the first car entertainment system with a built-in iPod system, and within a few years, most car manufacturers had followed suit. But tech analysist say it was inevitable the iPhone would one day replace the iPod. "When Apple created the iPhone it knew that it would ultimately mean the beginning of the end of the iPod," Ben Wood, chief analyst at technology advisory firm CCS Insight, told the BBC. Carolina Milanesi from Creative Strategies said the decline of iPod sales was connected to the rise of iPhone sales - like the move from digital sales to streaming. "The demise of the iPod is probably the best example of Apple not being concerned about cannibalising its own products," she said. The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player on the market, just like the iPhone wasn't the first smartphone - but that unique Apple design proved to be the push digital music needed to start to tempt people away from CD and cassette players - and file-sharing. In 2001 the music industry was fighting for survival against illegal file-sharing as tunes were ripped and shared on platforms faster than record labels could issue legal threats. The launch of iTunes, and the iPod shortly afterwards, provided it with a lifeline in the form of revenue for legitimately purchased downloads. It also revived the fortunes of Apple, which was languishing in a market dominated by Windows PCs. It was introduced on stage by the late Steve Jobs at an event on 23 October 2001. "With iPod, listening to music will never be the same again," he said. And in many ways, he was right. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-61401626 |
Sleeping With Dog: Lady risks infection that may spread to the rest of the world — Experts By Chioma Obinna Social media platforms were awash with the video of a young Nigerian lady having sex with a dog. Since then there have been questions about the act which many have described as ‘unclean or taboo’. Meanwhile, medical experts are warning that such act could spark off emerging or remerging infections in the country. According to the experts who spoke with Sunday Vanguard, sex with animals is not only unclean but a potential source of health-related catastrophe. Before the recent event, the prevalence of humans resorting to having carnal affairs including erotic sexual intercourse with animals such as sheep, cows and dogs has become worrisome. Not too long ago, there was a case of a video where a young man was seen having sex with a cow in a farm. According to a former Chairman, Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, NVMA, Dr. Alao Mobolaji, the lady’s indiscretion in the dog sex video may lead to an outbreak of infectious diseases of zoonotic origin. Lamenting increasing sexual interaction between animals and human beings, he expressed worry that there is a strong likelihood that unknown diseases may begin to emerge. Mobolaji, who is the National Treasurer, NVMA, regretted that, to date, the world is yet to ascertain where the Ebola virus emerged from and that of coronavirus, adding, “There are traces that they are from animals to humans and, because of that, we need to be very careful of this trend.” According to him, apart from the emergence of diseases, individuals can also contract zoonotic diseases that are transmitted from animal to human. He regretted that Nigeria has no legislation prohibiting such act but said: “In animal law of Lagos State, there is no provision for such act. “Recently Animal Bill was passed into law but it only addresses the management of animal data and keeping of dangerous animals around us, no part addresses sexual intercourse between animal and man.” Also speaking to Sunday Vanguard, a researcher and public health scientist, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, who described the lady’s action as a shame, said zoonotic diseases are increasingly being incriminated at both epidemic and pandemic proportions. Noting that concerns are rife and heightened as Nigerians are now apprehensive especially over the implications of the lady’s act in terms of emerging diseases and its spread among the population, he said: “A school of thought holds that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can be traced to the mingling of humans and monkey. “Of course, we are very conversant with the much dreaded monkey pox and Ebola –these are emerging fatal viral haemorrhagic fever diseases of animal origin afflicting humans today. “Typically, sexually transmitted disease of animal origin has been documented to possibly infect and afflict humans who unwholesomely mingle with especially dogs. “Canine brucellosis is an infectious and zoonotic disease caused by brucella canis which has been reported worldwide, and is a major public health concern due to close contact between dogs and humans. “This abounds in the contaminated fluids such as semen, urine and vaginal secretions from infected dogs. “In humans, the brucellosis disease is associated with a febrile syndrome, commonly with non-specific symptoms including splenomegaly, fatigue and weakness”. Continuing, Ifeanyi, who is also a former National Publicity Secretary, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, AMLSN, said the implications and the likelihood of common diseases associated with humans sleeping with animals including dogs, as shown in the viral video of the lady who claimed she slept with the dog and earned N1, 700,000, were very far. “Though Nigerians are much more concerned about the emergence of infection and other public health-related challenges there are lots more associated with bestiality”, he stated. “The psycho-social and emotional issues are also daunting. Animals don’t consent to sex with humans. An animal does not ‘kiss or tell’ their expectations in any given way. “So, what is the fascination? Is it just for money or is there some cultic undertone?” Querying why people desire and consummate sex with animals, he lamented that such ugly indulgence continues to gain ground amongst young people, hence the need Nigerians should begin to consider whether the increased focus on sexual attention and activity might be due to sexual abuse earlier in life or outright mental derangement. “Sex with animals is not only unclean but a potential source of health-related catastrophe and even death”, the expert said. “Some years ago, an expatriate at a construction giant in Life Camp, Abuja allegedly played host to a young lady and paid her handsomely to entertain him by having sex with his foreign bred dog. “Shortly after the escapade, the lady in question died in her suburb residence in Karmo. “According to medical and veterinary literature, a number of animal diseases are transmissible to humans and these are termed zoonotic diseases”. On animals impregnating humans, Ifeanyi said it was not possible due to the differential in the number of chromosomes and differences in the key genes on different chromosomes. “So it would be very difficult to get the genetic material in sperm to match up with that in a human egg”, he said. “The foregoing is more theoretical than the reality. Sex with animals such as dogs has been fingered as the cause for the birth of some monster-like beings in the past. “It is widely believed that human-animal intercourse can in some cases lead to such humanoid cattle offspring. “Although it is scientifically controversial, human sperm can impregnate animals, especially within the very few species that can interbreed, there are not enough reasons to have sex with animals.” According to him, the absence of sanctions for such beastly behaviour in our laws can be largely blamed for the rising indulgence in bestiality among young Nigerians. “Government at all levels and our different religious authorities must step up action and activities that will help stem this new wave of absurdity in our society, “he stated. Ifeanyi regretted that it was appalling that the absurdity is fast becoming entrenched in a highly religious country like Nigeria. The expert, who noted that the bestiality was adjudged as taboo and/or illegal sexual contact activity in many climes, said the challenge remains the apparent dearth of the legal framework in most places including Nigeria to help curb such societal ill. “Regrettably, neither the Nigerian government nor the various lofty religious institutions are yet to take drastic steps to curtail this ugly menace”, Ifeanyi stated. According to the World Health Organisation, WHO, zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from a non-human animal to humans. Zoonotic pathogens may be bacterial, viral or parasitic, or may involve unconventional agents and can spread to humans through direct contact or through food, water or the environment. They represent a major public health problem around the world due to our close relationship with animals in agriculture, as companions and in the natural environment. The WHO report also states that Zoonoses comprise a large percentage of all newly identified infectious diseases as well as many existing ones. Some diseases, such as HIV, began as zoonosis but later mutated into human-only strains. Other zoonoses can cause recurring disease outbreaks such as Ebola virus disease and salmonellosis. Still others, such as the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 have the potential to cause global pandemics. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/05/sleeping-with-dog-lady-risks-infection-that-may-spread-to-the-rest-of-the-world-experts/&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiZuPWHltf3AhXknVwKHcoJCT0QFnoECAcQAg&usg=AOvVaw3UKiBVA25U5KL63FRuoHL8 |
